Wednesday Weekly Card Giveaway

Hi crafters!  Today's card giveaway is a bit of a different card, but it is really striking in person.  I started by creating a Pixie Powder background.  On a full sized piece of coconut white card, I tapped various shades of Pixie powders on to the card.  I used Aubergine Dream, Emerald green, Burnt Orange and Straw Yellow for this one.  I spritzed it with water to activate the powders, then dried it with a heat tool.  Once it was totally dry, I cut it to size and used the Zentangle Leaf Stamp To Die For and stamped it all over the background using a Black Archival ink pad.  I created a multi layered frame for it by using the Scalloped Lattice Frames Set B to cut an aperture in a piece of coconut white card.  I left a wide border on it and then added a thinner frame cut from putting two dies together from the Scalloped Lattice Frames Set B.  I added it with mounting foam over the aperture.  I cut the Autumnal Leaf die shapes out of the remaining piece of Pixie Powdered background and added the matching outlines in white.  I arranged them in the corner of the card on the frame.  I stamped my sentient and cut it out with the Stitched Flags and tucked the end under the leaves.  I completed the card with a white on white mat layer.  The finished dimensions are 7 1/4" x  8 1/4" in size.  Leave a comment if you would like to be included in the drawing to win this card.  The winner will be announced on Saturday's blog post.  All for now, Sue x

Elaine, such good news for Andrew. He must be so looking forward to the end of his treatment , the final post is in sight and then he can get back to normal life.
Tina, I'm okay hope you are too.
Norah, sorry to hear you have been so poorly, as I've been there myself with chest and lung infections. I hope the antibiotics kick in soon so you get well. Thanks Oatricia for letting us know. We are queuing up to take a place at the April meeting. Laine, calm no nonsense, I looked around to see if there was someone behind me, you couldn't surely mean me.
Ladies you had me crying with laughter at your posts re each other,, you are all so funny. Mgrandsons never let me forget that I asked the price of something in that Designer shop, they both cried Grandma it's the £1 shop.
    Welcome back Jean.
I was driving home yesterday, sun so bright I had sunglasses on, yippee. Spring is on the way.
Hugs to all poorly and missing friends and all on the blog.

  9. Love this card, Sue, wonderful for the giveaway. Have none of the ingredients sadly, so can't try a version. Hmmm.... maybe a gilded flakes background? wouldn't be so pretty though.
The April meeting for the Naughty Nine sounds such huge fun but guess it would turn into mayhem if all who would like to be there - could!
Laine - birthday cuddles for the dashing Brodie!
Carmen - well done on your 'first ever' - you do realise that this is a lifelong obsession now?? No escape.
Hugs to all, missing Wheely and PP. And to Norah, get well soon.

  29. Hi Sue and all the hopefuls,

I love how well the complexity of the zentangled leaves goes with the Pixie Powders. Almost like you carefully colored each leaf. And how the colors you picked do not suggest fall. This one looks like it would be fun to make.

Laine, to answer your question, my ordinary yellow tiger cat is named Mopsi. He has white paws. I got him as a kitten on July 4, 2014, I think. His mother was all white with a tail of many colors, and his own tail was extra long at first. He likes any sensation and is good-humored about everything. He is also considerate. He'll be careful not to use any claws when he jumps on my back to reach his perch in the bathroom window. Although once he came into my craft room and sank his claws into my leg without the usual series of polite reminders escalating into a demand. I was pretty angry and chased him out, then smelled something burning on the stove. Hero cat! I'm glad he didn't give me a Valentine's Day gift, especially a live one. We used to play hockey in the bathtub with a ping-pong ball, so he likes to leave his gifts for me in the tub. He plays hockey with them, too, but they have to be the ball. I try not to let him see that I catch his gift in a take-out cup and release it outside.

After all the talk yesterday, I had to look up what a cottage pie was. Yum!

Take heart, SAD sufferers, the sunshine is just going to get better and better.

May the winner of the drawing be the follower who most needs a perking up.

    Love,
    Donita

Wow! Sue a stunning card today. I am sure we would all love to win this beautiful giveaway, you are very generous. I have used the pixie powders a little and I am going to try and recreate the background you have made on this card as I have these colours. I know it will probably look a mess in comparison to yours, but as they say practice makes perfect and I know that no two backgrounds look the same.
    Wish me luck!

    Hugs to everyone xx

I'm not sure if I am putting them on too near the paper or what but they are very blobby. Then if I try to spread them out with the water they just get so wet they run everywhere, but I will persevere as I just love the effect on this card. 89. Morning, Sue,
OMG...this is beautiful!! Those leaves are truly stunning and, of course, you just can't go wrong with a Pixie Powders background.
I hope everyone had a great Valentine'so Day yesterday. I ended up battling with the brambles that want to take over my back garden. I think know I may have one this round although it's an ongoing fight lol. I didn't come away unscathed though, hands were dripping blood by the time I finished and I ended up with a small thorn embedded in the tip of one final version...can I blame my bad typing on a war wound?
I've actually managed to hang out some washing this morning as the sun's shining and there's a bit of a breeze. I bet I end up having to finish drying it inside though.
Good luck everyone for the card draw...am I being selfish to hope it's me lol.

I always love your pixie powder backgrounds - so much so that I went and bought quite a few to try. Well! What can I say? Mine never come out like yours! Just end up looking a mess! But I will keep practising, it's a good job you only use a tiny bit each time. I also like how you've used the cut outline of the leaves in white , really makes them pop. Bejay - you have been in the wars! You have survived bloodied but unbowed! Well done!
Diane - you little fibber you!! I didn't say " How much is this?" Once!! I know I'm a bit daft - but!

  120. Hello Sue,
What a truly fabulous card today. I love it.
Elaine, sorry to read that Andrew's treatment has been put back a week, but he's nearly reached the finish line, so hang on in there.
    Tina, thinking of you.
    Maria, here's a cuddle x
    Laine, sending love x
Yvonne, come back all is forgiven. Hope you are o.k. x
Pam, believe me we have such a good time, laugh so much, and all get on so well when we meet up. No one takes offence when we take the mick - which is just as well, believe me. Poor Myra takes a lot and never grumbles. They are the best group of ladies anyone could ever meet and I'm so grateful to count them as my friends. Another good point is that they never ask to borrow money ha ha.
    love to all,

  121. Good morning Sue,
Different and interesting card. Even autumn is not my favourite season, I love those colors. I am a fan of a multi layered frames. Overall it is a beautiful card and the winner (good luck to all of us) will be happy with this prize.
Myra – thank you. My hubby’s feed back and your encouragement make me to go ahead with this new hobby.
'P' in Wales – You are so right, it’s becoming an obsession … but it is a great feeling when you finish a project. I have a long “to do” list for this year; b-days, Easter, etc. One step at the time. It is a lot to learn, to try, to re-do but it’s worth it, right?
    Have a great day ladies!

  129. Hiya Sue,

I love everything about this card, the leaf stamps are now a must, the leaf dies are on their way (finally) as as well as the fact I adore them they will be used as decorations at my brother's autumn wedding later in the year, the pixies... I brought 5, 3 as close to primaries as they had & a couple of more neutral tones so I can mix when I first use them before I commit to more. They're waiting their turn- soon I hope! I know it doesn't show the iridescence of the pixies on the photo but I can imagine. Sue, I hope life is treating you well. The notification emails have brought me joy every day even when crafting has been the last thing on my mind. Big hugs xxx

To my crafty friends, I hope life finds you well. Reading back is not an option sadly, it's either read or type (am typing only occasionally looking at the white bit of the screen and just trusting that between me and the auto spell thingy this is making sense lol)

Norah, get well soon my lovely, have missed your stories. I hope Rory is doing well, big hugs xxx

Elaine, Andrews blood count will right, have been thinking of you both, will have fingers crossed he'll get his next treatment, big hugs to you both xxx

To all my other friends who I have missed so much, I hope you are happy, doing lots of crafting & as well as can be, big hugs also to P, Pat L & Sarah, Lynda, ladies at the Cotswold Cafe, Laine, Yvonne, Theresa W, Fluffycat Frances, Bejay, Alison, Nanna Tina, Little Lamb, Tracy, Tina T, Pam, June, Lorraine F, Myra, Maria... I know I have forgot some names and I apologize but I'm sure I'll catch up with everyone very soon xxx

There just not the space her to describe the last 3? Weeks since I last popped by. Had trips to pain physio which is all "occupational" I have to practice doing things I enjoy that I haven't done in a while (this being one), psychologist (as although I'm not depressed in an everyday way, the years of changes have had an effect on my thinking in general, questioning myself & what I've done over the years to stay "fit", my lack of willingness to leave the house, especially on my own & of course that hyperactive bit of my brain that argues with my body & sometimes lets off a few emotional fireworks!) plus of course, just waiting for the infusion to finally happen. Still no further with head/ neck/ migraines, had a scan last week, two days after the trip to London. Once again had to be peeled off scanner bed as I got stuck in a spasm, partially putting my hip out & after my body flared up big time. 6 days later, I'm trying to make a special effort & doing that little thing for me that is "normal & enjoyable" everyday if I can. Even if I am taking my time or it lasts just minutes. I just got sick of feeling like I acheive naff all so as this is the first day after the scanner rebellion that I feel halfway normal, here I am, with a crafty smile and a big hug for everyone (plus an apology for rambling on lol)

Sorry, I got to cut this in two...

  130. Part 2

Billy getting stronger & stronger, he can run in the garden & now long walks are easy. Not at all impressed at me suddenly disappearing for the day here & there after having me almost all to himself all the time for a good long while. Having the youngest of my brothers to play, walk & cuddle while we're at the hospital softens the blow somewhat but he sticks with me like glue the second I'm home. Mr is getting the odd day of work here & there but is still looking for something that's not zero hours. Still always the bridesmaid at interviews so he is casting his net a little wider & not being so fussy about what he applies for.

I have a new crafty friend, soon as we can we'll be having a play date. I got to fire up the cutting machine to finish my brothers save the date cards first then the table will be free. We are definitely doing a show this year if plans allow at her end & my body starts to obey me a little more. She's kept my spirits up so much over this rough patch & Billy adores her. Funny how these people walk into our lives when we need them most, isn't it?

Oh, also I hit 40 at the end of January... Was spoilt big time and it was a great boost having people in and out over that week, as I can't drink I hit the cake instead, 5 days of eating at least one very large slice of cake a day. It was b***dy brilliant!!!

That's me up to date I reckon, my head is insisting I go for a sleep now as I've been waffling on for well over an hour including breaks so a good place to end for today. My first aim is at least a twice weekly visit here to say hello. Baby steps n' all. Means I save a few spoons to do something creative in between with luck.

Sending big hugs and happy thoughts to Sue and all the commenters wherever on the planet you are. Wishing you good times and happy crafting. See you at the weekend, if not before. Take care of yourselves,

    T x

Crikey, more novel than comment. Sorry if I bored anyone! Looking forward to getting back to normal over the coming weeks/ months xxxxxx :-)
