Retail Therapy

Hi crafters!  I have a clean and simple two-fer for you today!  Two girlie cards that were just so simple, I couldn't help but put the together in one post.  Neither card needs much in the way of an explanation either, but I will do a quick rundown on both.  The first card uses the nail polish die from the Retail Therapy die set.  I cut it in five shades of pink and cut it again five times in black.  I cut the bottom off of the pink die cuts and glued them to the black ones so the cap looks black in each of them.  I added Cosmic Lacquer on all of them to give them the look of nail polish.  I cut a frame using the frames from the Happy Perspectives die and mounted them all in a row with mounting foam.  I added the wording from the set cut in black below the nail polish dies.  The finished dimensions are 7 1/4" x  8" in size.  Scroll down for card number two.

Card number two uses the shoes from the set.  I cut the shoes in three different colours.  I coated each of them with Cosmic Lacquer to give them a shiny look and then mounted them in a row with mounting foam.  I used black and white striped paper from my stash and added a black strip above and below the shoes. I cut the sentiment from the set and mounted it on white card below the shoes.  I completed the cards with white and black mats.  The finished dimensions are 7 1/4" x  8" in size.  All for now, Sue x

Wow June, you are up early or have you not been to bed, hope you are okay.
Elaine, I know it's disappointing for Andrew but the stronger his body is the more he can tolerate the treatment. Not long to go now.
Tina, daily thoughts and a hug for you. Are you feeling any better after your nasty cold.
Wheeley, lovely to see you. Hope you had a great birthday, and a big one too. Lovely that you have a crafting friend,, it should be good fun together.
To the Gang if Nine, more each day keeps slipping out, Diane, walking home barefoot, what's that about. You should put all your stories together in print, could be a bestseller or tv sitcom, move over Eastenders & Corrie. You have certainly kept me amused.
Norah, hope you are feeling much better, did you try the Vicks on your feet.
Good luck for the opening night Cheryl, aren't we supposed to say Break a leg for luck in the Theatre World. Well I say it.
Hugs to all, esoecially missing and poorly friends.

  11. Good morning Sue and all Wilsonettes, oh yes, I was thinking about nail varnish shoes and handbags for a special card I have to do for a 40 year old and both these would do me a treat, you are a genius, solved my problem. ha ha!!

Pam I have a bit of a head cold and could not sleep was awake from 3am, then decided to get up for a cuppa, and realised that I had not commented on any of the blogs from yesterday, not just you Sue, John, Julia, etc. etc. slapped wrist. I will try and get a couple of hours later this morning, but I am OK thank you for asking.

I love reading all the comments they cheer me up no end every day, thank you.

Stay safe, healthy and happy, hugs, June Smith xxx

  12. Morning dear Sue. Love both of these samples. I'm finding it hard to put into words just what a fantastic idea it was to design this collection of Shadow Boxes and all the accessories that go with, without sounding like I'm grovelling for some reason, but they are all absolutely brilliant. The numerous ways they can be used is countless - but without you giving ideas and inspiration, I just don't own one of those brains that actually see these various variations of their use, all I know is that I used my Retail Therapy collection as you showed the launch sample, not a replica, but using each box to place a lipstick /nail varnish etc, and the recipient absolutely loved it I made the shoe into a designer shoe and the perfume bottles into her two favourite brands and it was so much fun to do. I love these samples, so easy and quick to do but would I have thought about doing something like that - never in a million year's !!! Thank you 😊

Thanks for all the inspiration and idea's Sue, you deserve a hug xx

Elaine - anyone on the chemo 'trip' will tell you that there's often a pause for the bloods to be right (as Mr P and our Tracy knows too) - very frustrating but a safety measure. Not long to go now.
Wheely, so good to see your post. Wow wot 40?? Glad Billy is doing so well and wish you were, too - I'm still hoping for a magic wand! Pleased you have a crafting pal in real life as well as us here and good wishes on the job front for your man.

  28. Hi Sue and Retailyettes,

This has got to be a red-letter day! Or pink-letter in this case. Acres of open space with nary a bow, blossom, swirl or pearl!

    Are you feeling okay?

Perhaps you have been frequenting a high-end salon? Or eating at those restauraunts that give you a giant plate with hardly any food?

    It does convey expensive.

On the second card, I'm glad you did a closeup of one shoe, because it shows the stitching detail. That's awesome!

You sure do have range, from every centimeter covered three layers deep to strikingly simple and elegant.

Stephanie Cotterill, how did you make the shoe into a designer shoe and put brands on the perfume bottles?

CraftySuetoo, I like your idea of the Oceans 9. I can hear the voice-over for the movie trailer: In a world where die-cutting is everything, nine crafty women are assembled to pull off the most daring card caper ever imagined.

Can you believe it's Thursday already!

    Love, Donita

    1. Easy Don. Black gloss card and red card. Cut two shoes in black and red then shadow the red beneath the black you then have a very expensive designer shoe. The designer perfume bottle was a lot more fiddly to do. Pale peach card and CE gold mirri to look like a label on the front. I used Google to research the bottle. If you find the SW fan based fb group it has over 3.000 members so far with soo many stunning cards of inspiration you can find so many wonderfully talented ladies with the most exciting ideas.

Donita. Our meet ups don't include any card or paper, apart from the bags that our purchases come in. It would be a film about The Gang of 9 and their bargains purchased. Norah being the one who finds the most. Oh we do have great retail therapy on our shopping trip.

What great girly cards today. Do you know it took me a couple of minutes and the first couple of lines of your blog to see they were bottles!! Oh dear I was out yesterday ( not wearing new shoes but I did look at some!) so haven't read what tales they have been saying but yes I do confess to wearing silly shoes and walking very slowly back holding Patricia up as she was wearing silly shoes too! I wore flats the next time and got told off by Jess for walking too fast!! I like the idea of the film, it's about time they made a film about ordinary ladies of mixed height and weight all over the age of ...... well let's just say no longer in their 20s!!

Love these really Girly Designer Cards, brilliant idea. You failrly give us food for thought, thank you.

I see someone is complaining once agian about the fun created here on Sue's Happy Blog. If no harm I'd being done and the length of posts are not "too" long, what harm is it doing. There are people on here who are ill, do not manage out and get pleasure from some of the comments. Can we please think positive rather than negative. If it had not been for Sue and her wonderful Blog my sister and I would never have raised the hundreds of £s we have for the Chemo Unit at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee. We have also made lots of fantastic friends including the ladies that make up our Naughty Nine. Life is too short let's live and let live.

  81. Hi Sue
These are sooooo girly and I love them. Can think of loads of friends and their daughters who would be over the moon with cards like these x
I have these dies and have used them and just by changing the colour and the way they are arranged on the card gives so much versatility x
Been looking back at all the cards from the last 6 days which are all (as always) wonderful. So much inspiration and I can't wait for things to calm down so I can actually get into my crafty space x
Apologies for my weeks (almost) absence. My social life has gone into overdrive and I am finding it really hard to keep up!
It was my best friends 50th party on Saturday. It was a brilliant night but not local and an hour and a half journey there and then back makes it tiring. Couple of days to recover then another friends 50th birthday on Tuesday and round to hers for fun, food and frolics. Last night I went to see the Jersey Boys which was so good - singing and dancing compulsory although my dancing was not really up to standard due to my body objecting to any vigorous movement! Thank goodness it was a coach there and back x
To top it all off I am heading up to Nottingham tomorrow morning with a friend. Her son is going to university there in September after his year out so she wants to have a nose at where he is going. My Aunty and Uncle live about 15 miles from Nottingham so that's free accommodation sorted.
I am fully aware that this could involve a trip to Phil's shop. It's the least my friend could allow as I have secured a 2 night bed and breakfast reservation at the knock down price of zero x
So, you can see that the social events in my usual quiet and calm life seem to have ganged up on me and although everything is a hugely enjoyable it would have been better if things could have been spaced a little further apart x
I will return from my travels on Sunday and be quite relieved that there is nothing planned for the foreseeable (1st April off to the Isle of Wight) x
I want to send everyone loads of love and happy thoughts and promise that once I am not out and about socialising like a B list celebrity I will not act like an outsider and be up to date with all the comings and goings x
To Pam, June, Lynda, Maria, Fluffy, P, Tracy, Wheely, Tina T, Nanna Tina, Elaine, Norah, Theresa, the NAUGHTY NUTTY NIFTY NINE, Laine and any of my other blog besties whose names have escaped me - I am so sorry but you know who you are - big hugs x

I love both these cards yesterday I made a 6x6card using
plain white card using your happy die which I inserted into the card so it was flush and decorated it with your shadow box balloons after seeing Lisa do a similar card. For someone who only makes fancy large creations it was a big step but I loved it so Carmen just remember it is only card so experiment and have fun.I looked back at Sues post in January and she didn't mention the length I for one love reading every single one especially Pam and Sam

  102. Hello Sue,
It's me again! I do hope you don't mind but I've been thinking so much about the blog and what it means! What it means to different people!
It reminded me of something, you Sue, posted way back before I commented on your blog. I followed for a long time before plucking up the courage! That may sound odd now but it's true!
I've spent ages looking for the Post and I found it in your Archives! It was March 8th 2012! It was a very long post but I remember being riveted by it. You told us about your lovely Dad and his connections with RAF Molesworth. After telling us about this brave, kind man you added an email he sent to you! I've never forgotten it . I think I copied it out - well it's well worth reading. So many wise words which had an effect on all who read them! They certainly affected me.
We don't have any idea of each other's lives really! Let's please try to get along and not cause hurt and distress!
If I've overstepped the mark , I'm truly sorry! Love Myra xx

  108. These are just plain WOW in their simplicity. I must make the shoe card for my daughter's birthday in May. She loves high heels when she (rarely!!) goes out to something special, but as a mum of 2 energetic boys aged 8 & 6, she spends most of her life in flats!!!! xxx

  112. Good evening Sue
Two very delightful cards today, you really are encouraging us to think outside the box, thank you for helping us along the way to doing a much larger variety of cards than we would think of doing.
Such a pity Sue someone is trying to cause some upset on what is a very friendly and truly supportive blog which I believe you have worked hard to achieve and is still your aim, both Patricia and Myra have summed up the situation most eloquently. I too remember so well your post in March 2012 and the very moving email from your father which you kindly shared with us all then.
If you feel I have spoken out of turn Sue please accept my heartfelt apologies it was not my intention.

  114. Hi Sue,
The cards are fabulous! I love the clean and simple look!
I am working on a b-day card for a young lady who loves shoes and purses! It will be very interesting to see how mine will turn out! Fingers crossed.
Hilary - Yes, I really enjoy my new hobby!
Wheely - Happy Belated 40th B-day! Hope that things will get better for you soon. Here is a quote about new friends: “We don’t meet people by accident. They are meant to cross our path for a reason. The great thing about new friends is that they bring new energy to your soul.” Enjoy your new friend’s company.
Saba – You touched a sensitive subject here: new shoes! But … so far so good. I have a nice shoe collection, so I am safe for a while. I am facing a bigger problem than to choose between dies and shoes … to choose between dies and dies … so many out there!
Trish – I’m having plenty of fun trying to make cards and reading this blog!!! Best blog ever, right Pam?

    Have a great day ladies!

  115. Hello Sue,
Two fantastic cars today, hard to choose between them but I think the shoe one is my favourite. I love how you have framed them with the black and white striped paper and turned them into patent leather scrumptious ness with the glossy accents. I'd like to buy all three pairs please!
Donita you made me laugh out Loud with your intro to CraftySueToo's film suggestion. You are definitely our screen play writer, now we just need a producer!
Debs it was lovely to see you back yesterday.
Yvonne I think you need to change your name to Party Animal, blimey you have been living it up.
Carmen if I told you I like shoes I'd be lying, I love shoes they are my passion, but I'd walk barefoot in order to have all Sues dies!

I would like to say Patricia, Myra and Margaret I echo your sentiments completely. Sue I also remember the beautiful wise words your dad had penned for you and felt priveledged that you had shared such a special message with us. Thats when I realised just what a very special blog this was, not only do we get the inspiration and joy from seeing the beautiful cards you create with your amazing die collection but we can, thanks to your kindness, share little bits of our selves with each other, our highs and lows and our laughter too. We even get to call ourselves Wilsonettes. There isn't another blog like it in the world. There are some who follow hundreds of blogs and maybe just dip In and out simply for the pleasure of seeing your creations and I respect that, but equally there are many of us here who love to read each and every comment and for whom this blog is a very special place indeed.
    Love and hugs for all

  118. Good evening lovely Sue and her crafty crew!

What a surprise, two stunning cards instead of our normal one, i really could get used to this:-) Thanks for spoiling us today Sue, I'm a real lover of a bit of retail therapy....just ask my Mum and Bank Manager:-).....so these CAS cards are right up my street. I cant choose a favourite though, because i adore my shoes and my nails are just the necessary finishing touch to an outfit. I love how the lacquer has given the illusion of glass for the bottles, an ingenious touch. Super cards for teens, shopaholics and transvestites:-), makes a refreshing change to see a totally different style of card from you, your talents are endless.
I, like many who frequent Sues wonderful blog, take the time to read through all of the comments both long and short and have to say that i really look forward to the lengthier comments because they are generally uplifting, humorous and relatable.....it would break my heart if that were to change because it is precisely what makes this the best blog on the internet as far as i am concerned.
Patricia and Myra's thoughts are echoed by many of us who take a great deal of pleasure in giving Sue feedback and connecting with, dare I say it, friends on the blog.....well said girls, you expressed yourselves very eloquently and will find a lot of support in this community as a result. I personally felt somewhat sad and disappointed that such a sour point has been raised again particularly when Sue doesn't have a problem with the length of peoples posts or the fact that they are of positive/relatable nature, she has a wicked sense of humour and enjoys a lot of the banter on the blog so why should we change a formula that makes so many people smile? All that i can say to everyone is please don't change, i love this blog as it is and i am sure that if Sue had any misgivings she would inform us....i hope that i havent spoken out of turn Sue, offending you would mortifying me:-(
Naughty Gang of Nine, keep up the great banter, I'm loving itxxx
Donita, Mopsi sounds adorable, i use a large pair of kitchen tongs to dispose of any "presents" though since we moved i am not getting nearly so many.....Darcey and Brodie must be watching the pennies:-)
Elaine, hoping Andrews bloods improve for next week, so close to the finishing line now:-)
Yvonne, glad you enjoyed Jersey Boys, id love to go and see it but London is just too far. Behave yourself in Nottingham, hope you get to Phill's shop during your stay. Have you checked under the stairs yet because Maureen has taken custody of the bronzed Adonis?
Wheely, lovely to have you back, sending hugs
    Hugs to all my bestiesxxx

  119. Hi Sue & all Wilsonettes first of all my apologies for not commenting for about a week I've been away visiting both of my daughters and their families and have been so busy with my young grandchildren that I haven't really had much time to comment on the blog although I have had a few quick peeks at your cards Sue. Todays cards are both lovely and I have to say there has been some stunning cards during the last week thank you Sue. I'm afraid I haven't caught up with all the blog news as yet but will try to do that tomorrow. I am sad to see that someone has been complaining again about the blog comments I love to read them all and if it helps to spead a little happiness then that can only be good
    Sending good wishes to all
