Defining Your Dies

Hi crafters!  If you want to make your dies really pop out on your projects, add a shadow die cut.  It is a bit more work, but I think you will agree that the results are worth the extra effort too!

The finished dimensions are 7 1/4" x  8 3/4" in size.  All for now, Sue x

  25. Morning Sue.
Love the shadow effect, it kind of brings the dies to life so to speak, a technique I also like to use, and one that Andy thinks he's reminding me to do when the occasion rises ! I made a vintage gold tone in tone 50th anniversary card a week or so ago. He came into my little den, took one look at the gold 'on your special day' I'd cut and promptly said " Sue would suggest you shadow that to make it pop" just as I produced the coconut white sentiment I'd just cut lol. I was just saying was his reply lol, I'm beginning to think I should hand over the reins when the pressure of market and orders overwhelms me what do you think Sue ?
Thank you for another beautiful sample of your work and video that would be easy enough for any budding male crafter to follow 😊
    Have a good day xx

Lovely card, the shadowing really brings out every little detail in the dies and makes them sing - I'm cutting shadow layers more and more often now, the finished effect is worth the extra bits of cardstock even if you can only see a tiny bit of the cuts underneath..

  53. Morning Sue and all Wilsonettes, a wonderful card in today's video and yes the two tone certainly does make the dies pop, I do this technique quite a lot with words but not so much with the other types of dies so will have to have a play.

Thank you all for your lovely messages, especially Pam and Theresa G, I know you are all thinking of me and I am getting there, saying that I was up at 1 until 5 this morning as could not sleep, I wonder why that happens, must have something on my mind, now what was it !!. 89. Good afternoon Sue and the Wilsonettes,
Flower, this has my kind of level of black in it, lol but you would be proud of me as i have made 5 cards with black in them and two of them are black and ivory or black and white. I will admit to it being down to John pushing my bounderies and way out of comfort zone but i got there. THis is a lovely card that really could be for male or female as it has no bows and fancies like too much sparkle. I know that it has a wee bit on the sentiment tag but it is just a tiny part of the whole card which is bonny. I don't have any of these dies to copy your WOW but i do have others that might make as nice a card, but there again it's me making it so i wouldn't hold your breath for that one. Thank you Sue for another piece of inspiration to get our juices flowing. You know i watched your videos on youtube but i don't think i'll watch them before i see the card again as it spoils my surprise at what it's going to be today. It's like a child at Christmas, big ones as well as small ones, opening their presents early because they can't wait and have a surprise and it's just not the same when it isn't a surprise. x
Well folks i had just texted my friend for him to have a lovely day out working as it was a beautiful day here when out the front it came teeming down but was dry out the back and sunny. I texted him back to say i wasn't going to send him a good day message again as it had jinxed it when has turned lovely again. I think some one is just trying to knock me dafter than i already an and believe me i need no external help for that.
Good moring little Harrison, well you gave your mummy, granny and great granny a start didn't you wee fella. Glad you have arrived safe and sound and that your mummy is ok as well although i think it might take her a wee while to get over that shock. Lorraine flower, many congratulations to you, your daughter and your granddaughter, has your daughter recovered from the shock of being an instant midwife? or has she previous experience in that department. When that new wee fella came he gave two people the wonderment of being parents, a new granny and well i'm told it takes someone very special to be made a great granny, sending you hugs flower after all your excitement.
June, so glad that you are down to the two visits as it does mean you are healing, just slower than when you were a day or two younger. I should have contacted you this morning to compare notes as stupid here being triple sured that she had taken her tablets and not wanting to overdose had a walkies spell trying to ease the throbbing and spasms that were in the back and down the legs and their still at it. Try and get a wee rest if you can today just to get you better able to cope. Sending hugs flower to see you through.
Well i will go and leave you all and i hope that you are having the sun shining where you are, Tracy the hugs have been sent through cyber space flower on what i hope is a gorgeous day for you and for all and anyone else that needs or could be doing with some,
    love and crafty hugs

  105. Good afternoon lovely Sue and her crafty crew!

I really look forward to video days, it's like having a birthday present twice a week to open full of wonder and delights. I tend not to spoil the experience by watching new releases on YouTube, I'd rather wait and have the surprise on the blog. I wasn't disappointed today, I love the shadow effect, it really emphasises the beauty and intricacy of the dies by making them pop, it's a technique that I have tried with great results. I really appreciate your one on one tutelage, it helps when I am trying techniques that I'm not familiar with and as a reference to a particularly challenging card. Thankyou for taking the time to provide us with such useful tools in our quest for Suesque type perfection:-)
Well, I managed to make it to my craftroom today but with varying success...it was one of those afternoons when you felt like you were treading treacle:-( I'd decided to have my first attempt at using the weaving dies, yes, they look so straightforward.....not so! With the benefit of Sue video I followed the instructions and came a cropper more than once, it was so fiddly yet Sue made it look so easy.....oh, you are but a God Sue, I simply cannot compare! My completed effort didn't match up to my high expectations and buckled slightly so I've put it under some heavy books in the hope that it will look better in the morning when the glue has dried....dream on fool!:-)
Feeling totally dissolutioned I have decided to leave my efforts for the day and return fresh and focused tomorrow....I consoled myself by buying the pierced noble squares, it's amazing just how therapeutic a bit of retail therapy can be in moments of abject despair:-)
June, good news about your wound, twice a week check ups seem like good progress:-) Hope you manage to have a quiet day and get a bit of rest after such an awful night, I very rarely find myself clock watching during the night.....some would say that my lonely brain cell must need it's rest!
Pat, eight years old is so young to be going through the trauma of surgery, I hope with all my heart that it's successful this time so that your granddaughter can enjoy her childhood pain free. Thinking of you allxxxxx
Lorraine, congratulations! I saw on Facebook yesterday the happy news but didn't want to spoil your surprise in telling your blog buddies.
I am so pleased for you and your loved ones, what a beautiful name Harrison is, is it after Harrison Ford? Probably not, your granddaughter is too young to remember his heyday in the eighties/nineties but it is lovely nonetheless:-) Don't let being a great granny get you down, my grandmother was a great great granny in her seventies, it's an achievement to be proud of:-) it's not a reflection of your age so don't let it bexxxx

  115. Hi Sue. Thank you for your card and fab video today !!! I just cannot believe that I actually have all the dies needed to make this card !!! I also have the same coloured card stock and this actual sentiment stamp too !!! I really have no excuse not to make this one !!! I do often use the shadowing technique to make my sentiment dies "pop" so I am now going to have a go at using other dies with this technique to. I really love the white and blue card with the "pop" of black card combination you have used. I really love my Arigua Gemini die and only recently got the Lauren die at Alley Palley. I have been having a play with the Lauren die and made several different combinations of Wedding Invitation cards for a friend and I am really happy with them all. My friend has not seen them yet !!! I love the Lauren die and I think it is so pretty and has such a lovely heart design to it. Perfect for Weddings. Thank you Sue for all your continued inspiration. June...hope the healing improves by the minute.
Laine...I'm doing well, thank you. Facing some major dental work in a couple of weeks but that's just another bump in the road. No problem. I've been ever so busy going to my grand children's baseball and soccer games. Last night my grandson Logan had a baseball game and to say that it was freezing out there would be putting it mildly. My granddaughter Rylee had a game scheduled tonight but my daughter just got an email saying it was canceled due to rain. Please don't judge me but I'm tickled pink! My other grandson Shane is being inducted into the National Honor Society on Monday night and the Art Honor Society on Tuesday night. Needless to say, they keep me busy (and young).
    Sleep tight everyone!
    Hugs to all! ❌⭕️❌⭕️

  128. Hi Sue,

This card is very attractive. Seems very detailed, but when you take it piece by piece like you do Sue, it seems easy.
