Just Because

Hi bloggers!  It does feel a bit odd not to be putting up Christmas cards on Friday, but I'm sure it will come back around soon enough! LOL   Today's card uses the Canadian Collection, starting with the background.  I cut it in coconut white card and backed it in periwinkle blue card.  I used the inside cutting die to cut it into a frame and mounted foam around the edge to raise it.  I used the die again, but this time, I simply embossed it into white card. I seated my frame over the embossed piece and added white flatback pearls to the centre of each square.  For the centre of the frame, I cut two of the Canadian Collection tags in white and crisscrossed them and turned them to form a diamond shape in the centre of the card.  I stamped my sentiment then cut it out with the inside cutting die from the tag.  I drew around the oval on to a piece of periwinkle card, then hand cut a small mat for my sentiment.  I attached them to the centre of the card with foam.  The card was completed by paper piercing a white mat, then adding a thin periwinkle mat and another final white mat.  The finished dimensions are 6" x  8" in size.  All for now, Sue x

  46. Hi Sue,

Very clever idea to use the die simply to emboss the centre panel - gives lots of texture/interest without adding too much dimension to the finished card...

Rosemarie - if you're using the Grand Calibur then you could buy an additional pink embossing plate/tan mat set and then use just the pink plate instead of the grey base plate when you want to emboss a die rather than cut with it...hth

  91. Good afternoon lovely Sue and the Wilsonettes,
This is a really pretty card Sue and i love the colour that you have used behind the white, as that periwinkle is such a pretty shade although never sure if it is blue or lilac but i do like it. Again a card that i don't have the dies for but i can make up something else with that beautiful colour scheme and it still be a nod to your fantastic skills Sue. I love how you have used the canadian background die to emboss the background layer to merge into the top and look seamless in its beauty. Thank you flower for yet another wonderful WOW. Well we have it cold, frosty and icy down here but if people just drive with due care and attention everyone will be able to go to the places that they need to and home safely. I am going away to sit down and knit a few rows of my shawl that i am making for a dear friend so i will leave hugs for all the wilsonettes that could do with one and wish you all a good day,

  100. Good afternoon lovely Sue and her crafty crew!

I just adore today's card, it more than makes up for the inevitable withdrawal symptoms we all feel at the end of our twofer Fridays. The Canadian background is by far my most favourite background die from all of your excellent collections, I have used it on a number of special cards and boxes with stunning results, so it's lovely to see it make a reappearance. I love the combination of the outer portion die cut with the central section merely embossed, genius and very effective- it's the pearl accents that really draw me to this die cuts possibilities.
Whilst I love your cards using the blue and purple tones, I miss your cream/custard and neutral toned designs plus the cream and black colour palette, but that's simply personal preference and in no way detracts from the superiority and beauty of any card you make.
I'm somewhat early today, had planned to take advantage of a rare frosty, bright day by venturing out for some shopping but decided to be a sloth instead:-), doing housework and abit of colouring instead- I'm trying to improve my technique through YouTube and DVD demos.
It feels rather retro and reminds me of my childhood when I would spend hours colouring and drawing, it's very relaxing but the perfectionist in me wants to be able to do it proficiently...no pressure then:-)
Sam, sorry to hear about your back problems, my mum has had a lifetime of similar troubles and walks with two sticks so I know how debilitating it can be. Good old fashioned putting your feet up and rest is the only answer she says....and maybe that gin drip helps take the edge of too:-)
Happy birthday Lorraine! Oh I'm so jealous! I would love the pierced squares, you are so lucky:-) Glad to hear your cold is behaving itself so that you can enjoy the day, hope you have a lovely lunch with your family. More decisions to make about which goodies to spend your cash on, have you received all of your lastest purchases....my Postie is getting a well deserved break:-(, hopefully not for long though.
Darcey has been very sick this morning the poor little scone, her and Brodie are due their annual boosters this coming week or so which will be an experience I'm glad won't be repeated anytime soon- engineering a cat into a tight enclosed space is a challenge to say the least!
Brodie has just established his authority by knocking my seat when I got up to get a drink instead of using his own part of the sofa-as any cat owner will tell you, you will be relegated to the floor rather than disturb them, they are boss!
Love and hugs to Yvonne, Beth, miss you buddies, Theresa ,Maria, Jan, hope your antibiotics are kicking in, Rebecca, hope you're alright too and Melody plus Tracy and all who need a healing cuddle.
Off to watch A place in the Summer Sun, a little escapism is just what I need....

    Love and crafty hugs

Laine - be glad you were a sloth, it is freezing out there. It took me 20 minutes to defrost the car at 9.30 this morning and the puddles from yesterday were frozen solid. There is still plenty of frost on cars that haven't moved all day and on the roofs of sheds and houses but worst still, there is snow on Ben Cleuch!

Lorraine F - I hope you are having a lovely birthday and the package from your son contained the dies you wanted.

  108. Afternoon Sue & ladies,

A beautiful, pretty card for today, the periwinkle blue is such a soothing shade.

The stamps arrived yesterday Sue, thank you so much, I had already bought a U mount pad so will be practising tomorrow as do have a special wedding card to make for my great nephew and his bride next month.

Warm, fuzzy, comfort blanket hugs to all in need of one, especially Saba & Val.
Also thinking of Melody, Francis, Tracy, & Sam x
    Happy Birthday Lorraine.

    Love & hugs

  112. A gorgeous card using my favourite background die. Beautiful color as well. Must try using the die for embossing, it is very effective. I am going to use my Christmas token to buy the remaining Canadian dies and perhaps a couple of your newer ones spending how far the token stretches; the more you use them, the more I want them.

    Thanks for more inspiration.

  113. Hi Sue

I love this b/ground. It's on the list! Really pretty card. I hope you enjoy CHA and I was so pleased for you that TxCowgirl gas reported seeing moee and more of your dies for sale in the US. Billy sends his special kisses for you and Mom. He's asleep on my legs at the minute, he's waiting for Mr W so get home (calm before the dog tornado lol).

TxCowgirl, your family will be up most in my thoughts. Will be wishing only good things for you all xxx

Tracy, warm hugs. Hoping the week so far has been kind xxx

Lorraine F, glad the biopsy results were good, sending many happy returns and a big virtual slice of cake for your birthday, hugs xxx

Sam, your poor thing! You must be more than a little disappointed after making such a good decision to excercise you then get an injury. To help with the recovery- if the injury site is hot, put ice on it, If the site of the pain is normal temperature you can add heat (hot water bottle or heat mat) which will increase blood flow to the muscles and help with stiffness too. I hope it eases soon, hugs xxx

Melody, Molly and Francis, hugs xxx

Yvonne, Beth, hope you're ok xxx

I've noticed quite a few new names when I was catching up on peoples posts. A welcome hug to you all xxx

Laine, I have a dog who not only believes it's his furniture, he's also long enough to hog the whole sofa on his own! Luckily positive reinforcement in the form of a doggy choc drop means that if asked he will shift (with accompanying huffy sigh). Mr W just got home and is sitying in Billys chair as Billy has claimed 2/3 of the sofa while cuddled up to me.

Hugs to all the crafty pets from Billy and I xxx

Sending hugs and thanks to Laine, Jan, Lynda, Marg and Theresa W. Only one migraine in the last 3 days but my back and neck are still causing much more than their fair share of pain. Been trying to rest but had visitors Weds and Thurs which wore me out a fair bit. Have a reference to write for my PA over the next two days as she's hoping to go to uni to train as a mental health nurse. I think she's perfect for it and she'll still be able to see me once a week. I'm flexible over which day she comes so it should work out.

Mr W just made me a coffee so it's time to listen to him vent about work for a bit (least I can do). Hugs to every single one of you wherever you are in the world. I got extra hugs, tea and sympathy for anyone who needs it. Hoping I'll be back tomorrow,

    T x

I love how you use the new pin hole dies and then do the out side holes by hand. It really gives it a nice effect.
