Alcohol Ink Background

Hello crafters!  A lovely pop of bright colours, very easily achieved, for today's card.  I have also used an existing die to make a fancy border around the striplet.  Can you guess which die has been used there?

The finished dimensions are 6 3/4" x 7 3/4" in size.  All for now, Sue x

  1. Such a gorgeous card Sue, we are truly spoilt by you. I love the inks.
I am deeply saddened that Molly feels she cannot comment on a Wednesday in case she wins the card, even though Sue has kindly told her it is alright. What was said to this child is tantamount to mental abuse, shame on the person who did it. Molly please believe us when we say we do not blog daily just to win something, this is a caring community for all and you are part of this.
Melody, hope Francis is improving and that you get him home today.
Tracey, hope all is going well for you.
    Happy Guy Fawkes everyone.

Molly don't know what has gone on but please ignore them and you blog every day if you want to, I get such a lot of pleasure every morning when I go onto my favourite blogs and Sue's is the best,...

Please everyone if you have fireworks tonight then stay safe and following the guidelines.

  18. Hi Sue. Wow - fabulous card and video. I usually think of pastel colours for butterflies on cards so it's amazing to see them in bright colours.
Molly - I echo Pam's sentiments, you take the time every day to visit Sue's blog so you should not be worried about winning something. I, for one, would be delighted if I saw your name as one of Sue's winners - just the same as I am when I see a regular visitor to the blog win.
Tracy - will be thinking of you today, hope everything goes well. Sue XXX

Great card - the colours really pop!
I don't have any alchohol inks but they could be this weeks buy.................
I didn't find my stray butterfly die so I might have to reinvest in a new set. I think my dad must have taken it - he passed away two years ago but it is no where to be seen and it was in front of my eyes one minute then gone the next. Bless him he loved butterflys.
He would have loved this card so I will recreate it .
Lovely video today and enough waffle from me!

Lovely bright eye-catching panel for the butterfly striplet makes for a very happy card...I too thought it was the Peace die behind the panel...wrong!...lol...and I've just bought the Vancouver too so no excuses for getting it wrong but it does show how different a die can look with a bit of cutting and piecing together...very clever Sue...

...and you know that Lockers would have used that panel that you cut the separate butterflies from!...lol

  66. A stunning card. I just love the technique you have used to make the background. I see another investment coming in alcohol inks!!!

Your method in cutting the framing die both ways is very opportune. Like many I buy pre-prepared card blanks at Christmas that I know can go standard post. I wanted to use some of the seasonal striplets but was not sure how to make them pop on a DL card. Buy showing us a way to both narrow and extend a die, you have solved a problem. I much appreciate that. I don't have the die you used but I can adapt the technique using one of those I do have. Thank you for another great tip.

Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh - how excited am I? Well if I told you that I have just seen your new dies would that give you a clue? On a scale of 1-10 my frenzied hysteria levels are at least 20. They are so stunning and have all gone on to my wish/want/just got to have/my life would be incomplete without list!!!
How can one person (you - Sue) be so brilliantly and creatively clever and produce the most innovative and ingenious 'toys' that Father Christmas will struggle to carry!!
Soooooooo excited to see what you have done with them. Thank you for bringing unbelievable happiness into my somewhat uneventful life. You and Jeremy Kyle deserve a medal - lol x x x x
Todays card is as always beautiful - video on hold until later. I have not got any alcohol inks in my stash, although I have just about every other imaginable colour medium. When I do watch your video later I know they will be something else that I am just going to have to get my grubby little paws on x
MELODY - I am so sorry that Francis is in hospital. I hope he is back at home again with you soon. Sending you a big hug x
MOLLY - please comment every day - I love reading everything you have to say. Lots of love x
LAINE - oh my word - if I had to live with someone who filed their paperwork in a carrier bag I would have a nervous breakdown. I drive the boys bananas because they have inherited there father's organisational skills which means that paperwork and letters are left lying round the house. Frequent confrontations occur which result in my filing their paperwork into a highly sophisticated and innovative fashion. in other words - date order.
I have a suggestion for your crazy cat problem. Why don't you get a cage? That is so cruel - how could you - I hear you shriek. Let me explain. I don't mean for Brodie. If you did your crafting in a cage you could keep Brodie away for long enough to be able to complete a task without interference. Just a thought - lol x
TRACY - hope you are ok hun. Sending you lots of love x
We ar doing our 'small' fireworks display on Saturday. We have told all the neighbours - in fact most of them are coming - and we have told everyone we know with pets in the area to spread the word as we are well aware that things are going to be loud. Dillon, our dog is not normal - he des not flinch when there are fireworks, but rustle a carrier bag and he is petrified! Noone in this house is normal so he fits in really well x

Sorry not been around to comment in a while - I'm back in fell time college (at my age)! Such wonderful followers - shame one or two have spoiled it for you Molly. From what I can gather, you'd be better listening to all these supportive friendly and kind ladies on here, not a mindless bunch who have issues by the sound of it. Says more about them than it does you. Feel the love and comment as much as you like. If there are to be any ground rules like that - Sue will set them, not a bunch of green-eyed-monsters!! Lol.

So much work load that has taken us all by surprise - not had a minute to craft since I started, but have a massive e headache today so taking some time out to do some gentle colouring and visit my favourite blogs...

Lol.
Nice to read such lovely comments as well as look at a beautiful card!!
    Take care everyone.

  110. Hi Sue,

What a beautiful and brightly coloured card, I love it all, of course butterflies are my favourite. Your card has certainly brightened up my day, as the weather today here in Baldock, is a typical November day, gloom and doom. !

  128. An exciting colored card today. I like! I did not guess correctly on the filigree die you used behind the "butterflies in flight" piece. The butterflies striplet die is on my wish list. You are one amazing woman with your cut, piece, and tape technique. How do you manage to use alcohol inks with out "painting" your fingers, finger nails, and everything around you? I always look like I have swirled my hands in a bowl of ink everytime I use the alcohol inks. Thanks for the video.

  152. Good evening Sue and the fab Wilsonettes!

Yep, this beautiful card has achieved the near impossible by putting a smile on my miserable face, so well done Sue!:-) The colours are fantastically vibrant and really cheering on such a dark, dismal day. For a change I watched your demo before commenting, such was my curiosity about the mystery die, and who would have thought that the Vancouver was the candidate rather than a configuration or border die- you cut and tape your dies with ease and imagination and I am perplexed as to where you get your inspiration from. Suffice to say that I am well impressed by the results, it has elevated a clean and simple card onto a level of sheer beauty and brilliance...it has even inspired me to get my own inks out of mothballs and have a play again!
Like I said, today I struggled to motivate myself out of my comfy, warm pjs...the silk ones aren't cutting the mustard given the damp, dreary weather, methinks it may be time for my cream furry onesie....so I decided to just go with the flow and be a total vegetable for a change. I was in the kitchen eating my brekkie and contemplating life when Brodie made a suggestion as to how we should spend the day by arriving with a jumbo sized roll of double sided finger lift tape in his mouth and positioning it at my feet, talk about guilt trip, even the cat is reminding me that I am woefully behind in my Christmas card production! It appears that he has noticed where I keep my tape and adhesives and decided to open the drawer and help himself!...this is an alarming development because I fear that it won't be long before he learns how to operate my laptop and order his own crafty goodies online:-)
Yvonne, I like your suggestion that I cage myself away from Brodies interference but I fear that it may prove fruitless because he would no doubt exact appropriate revenge for his cruel exclusion- he is clearly in charge in our household...bengals are known for their aggressively controlling behaviour....and I fear for my own safety if he doesn't get his own way:-)
Oh your poor baby, afraid of carrier bags:-( Brodie loves them with a passion and likes nothing better than to climb inside and be swung around the room in a frantic fashion, our homemade version of the Waltzers for cats!
I like your organisational skills, I have alphabetised my entire cd collection, colour coded my wardrobe, various drawers of tights, jumpers, nightwear etc shoes and handbags! I feel that we are familiar enough for me to suggest that you, like me, are freakishly controlling and obsessive, have you ever considered therapy or do you enjoy organising with military precision?:-)
Molly, we all comment on Sues blog to share our love and admiration for this lovely, talented lady- the fact that she is generous enough to offer us all the chance to receive one of her masterpieces whilst it is greatly appreciated it is so not the reason that we share our thoughts
You may be the proud owner of a card already, but don't let that stop you from commenting- if you were chosen again in the future I would be over the moon for youxxx
Tracy, hope you've had a good result today and can concentrate on the next stage of your treatment, love and hugsxxxx
Hugs to Melody and Francis too, hope his blood count improves enough to return homexx
Hope you all enjoyed Bonfire Night and the fireworks, and hope those lucky enough to visit the NEC had a fab day!

    Crafty hugs

  161. Hi Sue

Please don't think I'm only commenting on butterfly striplet days! It's been one of those weeks I'm afraid! I love this, It'll be number one to try with my alcohol inks when I get some of the mixative stuff. I don't have the other die you used but as I love a hack I'm sure I'll stumble upon an acceptable alternative. I'm going to cut a lot of dies out with my scrap card to be able to experiment with I think. Oh, and I saw today I'll have to make a new shopping list... Won't comment further until appropriate ;-)

I'm aware I've missed a few days so forgive me trying to catch up

Melody, I'm sorry Francis has been unwell. I hope he feels stronger soon and he's soon home with you, hugs to you both xxx

Good girl Molly... so proud and happy to see you post today. We know you love crafting and love Sue's work like we do, and we know you comment here with her blessing. Glad Dad has tightened security for you on FB and made you feel safe. Sending hugs x

Tracy, I hope the specialists have a positive plan going forward for you, sending you hugs too x

Laine, I think Bengals and Lurchers have a lot in common, Billy certainly has cat-like tendancies, I did laugh at Yvonnes references to a cage... for you!

Had a b****r of a week with my neck, hence my lack of posts. Apologies for that, sending hugs to every one of you, sending extra hugs if you need them. Wishing your dies cut first time and your inks stay wet and colourful :-)
