Metallic Enchanted Forest Card

Hi Crafters!  This card is a really great card for those of you that do batch Christmas cards.  It is ever so easy and quite spectacular when finished, a winning combination!

Just wanted to mention that Julia Watts is doing the One Day Special on Hochanda tonight with a launch at 8pm.  She will have shows at 9am, 12 noon, 4pm and 7pm on Wednesday and more great demos to show you too!  I hope you can tune in to watch!

The finished dimensions are 6 1/2" x 8 3/4" in size.  All for now, Sue x

  14. Hi Sue
This card sold the Winter Trees die to me. I wasn't going to buy any more but thought of batch cards and as you say it makes such a statement. The guilding wax is the best I have used - all the rest I have tried have dried up over time. I am a real Creative Expressions convert now.
    Really great card - again!
    Well done you.

Loved this card the first time it was aired, and I love it even more now you have given us the closest up tutorial. It's amazing how a few splats of white paint add a snowy /star effect to lift the heaviness of the black night sky card. Beautiful.
Have to stop what I had started yesterday and start a Silver Anniversary card today which needs to also go in the post no later than tomorrow ! Had a text at 10pm someone who received a 25th anniversary card I'd made last year loved it, and asked if I would make one for a long standing friend of 30 years but it's needed for Saturday, so I have to think of a design, make it up, send a photo for her approval, then hopefully it will be what she hoped for first attempt, stick it all down, type an appropriate verse for the insert and get it in the post no later than lunchtime tomorrow (no pressure there) talk about working to deadline or what lol I'm just relieved that she is in a position to be able to check her email during her lunch break so I'm not waiting around to hear if it's suitable as time is tight, she may need it for Saturday but it needs to get to her a day or so earlier just in case when she see's it close up she's not impressed and wants to buy one instead ! I always worry that will happen as we are our own worst critics that I'm sure of ! So now I've sent you back to sleep with my boring ramblings, I will sign off by sending you my love and hugs Sue, and thank you for giving me the amazing tools and knowledge to make the card I've been asked for.
Love to my special friends both here and those from our special FB page.
    Have a lovely day.

Steph - your card will no doubt be a cracking one and she will LOVE it! Bit of pressure on, as you say - just as well the 'clients' don't know the agony of deadlines and getting it right, otherwise they'd never ask. You'll be fine.

    Morning Sue
I loved this the first time I saw you demo it and although it is a little on the dark side for me I still love the overall effect.

This is one example of how your dies do all the work and how with only one or two dies you can create a masterpiece.

We had rain all day yesterday and it's still here this morning so it looks like another indoor day today. At least I might just catch up on my christmas Card list.

To all in pain and suffering today I hope your day gets better. To everyone please take care and stay safe. See you tomorrow.

  57. Greetings Sue & Wonderful Wilsonettes (WW)!
I saw this video at some point as well and marked it as a favorite. I decided then & there it would be this year's Christmas card (thank goodness card mimicking isn't illegal lol) because I think it's stunning, yet it is reasonable to do in batches. I just hope my "stars" don't end up looking like blobby planets :) Like others have mentioned, I too have other tree dies, but none have the embossing - so yep, I had to buy this set! I really do love this card! Sue, thank you so much for your amazing talent and generosity - thank you for not minding when we make cards just like yours! Recipients thus far have been thrilled and I always give you the credit for the hard part of creating the design, not only of the card, but the dies too! Hopefully I'm making converts of some of them :) My group of crafty friends tend to rely on me to teach them new things (which I love to do - but then I never get my own projects done lol). Anyway, now I'm constantly telling them to go to your blog, look you up on you tube etc - then they can watch a true master at work!
I've always been inspired from various sources, and quite often I just use the original as a "jumping off" point, but I have to say, there are so many of yours that just suit me to a tee that I don't want to change a thing! I am finding tho, the more of your videos I watch, the more my brain is incorporating your techniques etc and I don't always have to have the video in front of me! I guess I'm not too old to learn new tricks-yay! So not only are you skilled as an artist-but as a teacher too! Thank you so very much!
Welcome Jo J from Canada! Be warned, you might get addicted! :)
Glad to see you back Val & Theresa :) lots of beauties to catch up on (that's a happy thing to have to catch up on)!
Beth B - hope you are not overdoing it! Looking forward to your return :)
Laine, I'm afraid I'll be worried for you and Brodie on your walks too! - he's been a little rascal while your mum has been out hasn't he? It's a good thing they are so lovable :-) and they truly are. I too have been known to double purchase items, I've spent oodles of time getting my metal dies put into an inventory app on my phone, so no duplicates on that end so far, but have fallen a bit behind on that myself (gee, it's been since I started following this blog, coincidence?). I haven't even begun to get my EF in the app yet... I've been collecting long before I found Sue's dies & ef's so I have...well let's just say a whole bunch, but they are all small ones. I've so few of Sue's that I can still remember what I have. Hey one of your duplicates wouldn't happen to be the Beaded Fanfare or the Checkerboard Pinpoint would it? lol. I'd be happy to buy them from you :) tho by the sounds of it, I'd have to get in line! But seriously :)
I'm probably over my character limit and am starting to fall asleep. I will bid you all a good day (& myself a good sleep before I start my work week). Hugs & happy thoughts to all! Rebecca in Colorado

  73. I loved this card immediately when you showed it at your demo sessions at CE and kicked myself for not having taken a photo and looked at it more closely to see how you had put it together. I did manage the photo at Ally Pally but missed the hill you had done and the method for adding stars. To say I am delighted that you have now done this video is an understatement especially as I want to make a batch of Christmas cards using your techniques.

I have just been using gilding waxes at the parchment craft course that I am currently on and have discovered the joy of the Decadent Oak on black so I would add that colour as the end result is fabulous.

Apologies for my absence yesterday. I had problems with the internet. Have no idea why but pleased to say everything seems fine now so here we go x
Yesterdays card and todays could not be more different but both are fabulous. You showed us today's card at Ally Pally and I have to say that it looks even more beautiful 'in real life'. I never used to be a fan of darker cards but since being introduced to your 'darker side'. I have to say I have become a fan.
Really need to invest I some gilding wax - my problem is that I can never decide which colour so always want them all and obviously that makes things impossible. Can anyone give me any idea as to which colour they use the most - that might help x
Yesterdays card has a much softer feel and is beautifully elegant. Love the configurations. They are so versatile for larger cards as well as those smaller cards.
I still find myself pondering over the fact that you are so clever Sue. You know exactly what we want and you let us have it! You are completely responsible for keeping a lot of ladies very satisfied - and that is a huge accomplishment. Hope you are enjoying 'life' wherever you are and managing to put your feet up - although you do not strike me as a put your feet up type of a gal! x
Txcowgirl - so pleased my dinner has now been explained to you. The funny thing is I almost put roasties (scabby) and that would have completely thrown you. The extremely crispy roast potatoes that feature regularly on our dinner plates were referred to as scabby by my boys when they were little and this term has stayed with us.
P' in Wales - my yorkshire puddings are the best in town x
Rebecca - LL Cool J is ok but Mark has a special place in my heart x
Lorraine - hope you're feeling more human hun. Splicers - omg - yes. Loved them. What about Texan Bars? Looking forward to your mum being back? You can share the stress caused by the Bothersome Brodie x
Wheely Bad - I can't wait for the final of Bake off. Got my Wednesday Crowd coming to watch with me so I do think it only right that I throw something together in honour of the finale. It wouldn't do for us all to sit there dribbling would it? x
Just noticed that the sun has decided to come out. I rained for most of the day yesterday and looked like it was going to do the same today. Don't know if it is worth risking washing on the line - I'll think about that one whilst I make a coffee.
    Have a good day everyone.

  107. Good morning! I absolutely love this Enchanted Forest card and I'm super excited that I have your tree dies. All I have to do now is order some gilding wax (and maybe more dies lol). Thank you so much Sue for all of the inspiration and for your amazing videos. You're a great teacher and such a talented artist.
I really love reading this blog every day...I feel like I'm getting to know all the lovely ladies who comment. Sue, you have an amazing following!!!

  108. Hello Sue,
I have to confess I wasn't really too fond of this card when I first saw it! I can hear sharp intakes of breath all around me! I love the trees but I preferred them looking more Christmassy white or autumnal - more natural I guess. However , I have come round to the idea of this one and the close ups look amazing but may I say it's just not me! The card is beautiful and I can see why people love it but it's not one of my favourites! Sorry! I don't say that very often. I like to be honest though.
It's a lovely sunny day here today and I'm off in a few minutes to a Retirement Home - no no - not checking in - mind you, hope they let me out! Going to craft with the Residents. It's usually entertaining one way or another.
Love to everyone, in particular, Melody, Francis and Molly and all others going through difficult times.

Loved this card when I saw it on the TV and it uses the first die set that I bought from the new launch. Xmas trees are a must and these are a bit different and as you have so many sizes it makes them so versatile. This card is beautiful.

  128. Good Afternoon lovely Sue and her crafty crew!

This card is the one that succeeded in converting me to the joys of gilding wax, quite a feat since I struggle to apply it with super long nails!
I adore the effect achieved against the black card, it really enhances the varying colours beautifully, the embossing comes into it's own and creates some textural dimension rather than the flat shape that other leading die manufacturers offer. I have just purchased pearl moon(twice!), bronze and enchanted gold to add to my pastel toned collection so I have no reason not to blatantly copy your example- like Rebecca says, it's a good job it isn't illegal to recreate your mini masterpieces otherwise I would be facing a long stretch with no hope of parole:-) I really enjoyed the demo, you are excellent at breaking down the procedure step by step, it's a true idiots guide for those of us that struggle with written instructions:-)
Well, my Mums train arrives in the next hour and boy will I be glad to see her- the house no longer looks like a bomb has hit it and I've brushed and prepared Brodie and Darcey for inspection. My friend popped over for a coffee with her 16 wk old puppy Lulu who proceeded to get overly excited by Brodies toys and trickled on the wooden floor...Lulu that is, not Monique! Brodie is unimpressed by her invasion and is demanding that I let him out to escape, not likely, so I had plenty of pampering to do in the form of a good long brush and some cat treats to settle him again...me?Bribery?
Myra, what a lovely thought giving crafting lessons to the elderly, personally I wouldn't have the confidence in my own ability to do such an altruistic deed, but it sounds like a lot of fun. I wish that I had craft classes close by because it's a very social hobby, as this blog proves, so I'm sure the ladies will enjoy it immensely.
Rebecca, aren't we lucky that Sue is so generous with her talents and designs- I could never be accused of having an original thought so her daily input into my card making is a god send:-) I'm going to try inspiring a friend of mine to try some of her creations with me leading up to Christmas, hopefully we'll have another Sueaholic on our hands though she feels that the cards are far too ambitious for her so I'll have to prove her wrong.
Yvonne my dear, I am surprised that I have survived the past 6 days relatively unscathed, particularly considering Brodies earnest attempts to make me look like a rubbish mummy no. 2 whereas Darcey has been a positive angel, thank goodness for little girls as the song goes. I remember Texan bars well, I loved them too, they were much nicer than a sickly Mars bar. I am a little put out that I haven't received my invite for your Bake Off party, I know that I have a reputation for eating my own body weight in anything even mildly sugary but I would be suitably restrained in polite company. What are you planning to prepare?not Eton Mess again...or will it be a cheeky Arctic Roll in homage to this years challenges? I think Nadia will win, Peter put me right off him with his road kill pie. Tamal is very tasty but unfortunately he isn't interested in the ladies...darn, it's always the good looking ones! Sad that it has to come to an end but we can console ourselves by stalking the Strictly male dancers, promise me that you'll keep your hands off Gleb though:-)
Well, off to prepare a welcome home dinner for Mum...beans on toast anyone?

    Crafty hugs,

    Laine1972xxx

  129. Beautiful card again Sue. I must try the gilding wax very soon. Love the tree die, it is so versatile, for any season, and makes great backgrounds.

Now Yvonne and Lorraine I am really curious. Just what are Texan Bars? I am a Texan and am not sure what this is referring to. I don't suppose you are talking about Honkytonks? Our version of a pub there, but there's always country music and dancing. If you saw Urban Cowboy, Gilleys is a famous Honkytonk here.

Also, still wondering about Yorkshire pudding. I've been looking over the comments, but I must have missed the explanation. Yes, glad you didn't say scabby would really have been lost, but your potatoes sound divine.

  131. Hello Sue, and all the ladies.
This is a beautifully elegant card Sue.
Txcowgirl, Yorkshire puddings used to be eaten with gravy, in Yorkshire, before your dinner to fill you up. But we (in the North East of England) eat them with our dinner. They are made by mixing eggs, flour, milk and a pinch of salt into a batter. Heat some dripping until spitting hot, add the batter, put in a very hot oven, and cook for about 20 minutes.
    Good luck!!!
    Love to all, Maureen xxxx

  136. Absolutely love this card. I watched the video on YouTube a while ago and straight away ordered the trees, which arrived yesterday! I also ordered 5 gilding waxes, so when they come I can get started!

Haven't commented for a few days, as I've not been too well. However today was a good day and I managed to make a wedding card. For the first time I used my Sparkle Texture Paste and I just love it! I can see it's going to become a favourite.

I sincerely hope that things are okay with Melody, Molly and Francis, just taking each day as it comes. Also Tracy, I wish you all the very best on your journey.

  155. Hi Sue

Beautiful. I think this could be a card for birthdays too. I loved this card and it put the tree dies high, high up on the list. I love gilding wax but perhaps for those who don't have it try either use cosmic shimmer watercolours or perfect medium and mica for a similar effect.

Tracy, I hope you don't feel too stressed in the countdown to your treatment. Thinking of you, sending hugs x

Melody, Francis and Molly, sending hugs x

Txcowgirl, Texan bars were a type of candy that was available in the uk. I can imagine how misleading that is!

Late late show today. Slept most of the day and had a backlog of online shopping to do. I've been meaning to order this lot for over a month, not crafty as in paper crafty (that comes later, he he he...) have a few other things to get but it can wait til tomorrow. Hours of comparing prices has given me brain ache, sleep now so I can get up and bake something nice for tomorrow (hopefully).

Sorry I've been brief, hugs to all of you, far or near. Have a wonderful Wednesday,
