Caught in Crystal

Hi crafters!  The Caught in Crystal is still one of my absolute favourite techniques and it has been around in many forms for many years now!  I will show you the way that I prefer to do this technique in today's video.  I hope you'll enjoy it.

You still have one more day to add any comments to blog posts you may have missed during the blog launch.  Only one comment per post, but there are 21 posts that you are able to comment on should you like.  I will do the drawing sometime on Friday and post the winners in the afternoon.

Buy from Joanna Sheen

The finished dimensions are 8 1/4" x  8 1/4" in size.  All for now, Sue x

I love this technique the only problem is it's so addictive to do, there are so many variations of different colour schemes to try. Your so right about being careful not to 'muddy' the colours I've had some disasters lol. I love the colours you've used today so vibrant and autumnal. The pierced edge around your aperture looks gorgeous and those corners are brilliant a clever bit of designing there. I enjoyed watching the video you always break everything down into easy steps for us to follow thank you for that.
Well today I bet there are some very excited people getting ready to go to your demo day ( hope I've got the date right) am I jealous? .................. Well maybe a little bit lol. This time last year I was getting excited because I was going to see you in Haverfordwest, doesn't the time fly?

  100. Good morning Sue, what a great informative video and lovely vibrant card this Thursday. It is actually one of the many technique's of your's I have been 'brave' enough to try (hollyberry - you must have a go its great and so easy) the worst part is waiting for it to dry so you can continue to play with it ! I used 3 shades of blue as a background for a male card and it was so good to see something totally different to what I usually do.
Hope you have a wonderful day with your demo's and to those ladies that are sharing your day with Sue have a brilliant time.

  114. Good morning Sue,

It has been years since I used alcohol inks and seeing these beautiful autumnal tones really inspires me to fish them out again, just need to refresh my memory with your demo methinks. The noble dies are so versatile and a real essential to any crafting arsenal.
I am pea green with envy at the lucky lucky ladies who are going to spend some time with you today, it is a dream of mine to meet you and I can only hope that you will maybe be able to fit a visit in to Scotland in your busy schedule in the future-knees, fingers, toes and eyes crossed! Have a lovely day though, I am certain it will be unforgettable.
Another cloudy day in Stirling, we seem to be the only place not basking in sunshine at the moment so no sunscreen needed here anytime soon.
Feel a little sad today, my neighbour had to put their 18 yr old cat to sleep yesterday-I gave him a big cuddle before he left but it brought back memories of Gizmo a year ago, they were the same age and the pain is still so fresh. To all with four legged babies, hold them close they are so so precious.
On a brighter note, my brother went to Holyrood Palace yesterday to the Queens garden party- no pictures were allowed for my scrapbook though, but he is visiting today to give me the low down on events.
Off for a bath and to do alibi toe ironing.....unless the sun appears of course, or Andy is playing at Wimbledon!
Have fun wherever or whatever you are doing today.

    Love and crafty hugs,

  137. Hi Sue, I love the caught in crystal technique and the colours you have chosen here are gorgeous. Very autumnal looking and autumn is my favourite season. Would I be wrong in thinking that the noble dies are your favourites? They are popping up everywhere - so versatile.

Lynda - Happy Birthday, I hope you are having a lovely day and are being spoilt.

Lynne M - enjoy the peace while it lasts. It is not as hot here as it is down south but my cats are all flaked out at the moment and last night they seemed to be really happy to go out in the rain!

Saba - there hasn't been a re-occurrence of the e-mail problem, hopefully it was just a blip.

I've got everything I need to try this out...except the crystal lacquer!! Looks like I'm going to have to place an order for some as I really want to try this out before too much longer. I've seen other methods but yours seems to be the most straightforward and fun way.
The end result is a stunning card today, the colours you chose are so vibrant. Thanks for the video instructions, you're a star!! xx

  160. Hello Sue,
I managed to leave my comments on your die launch but still don't know why there was a delay in receiving your blog.

I think I have recently received a card made with this technique so I am looking forward to watching your tutorial to see how it is done.

Thank you for all the lovely cards you posted with your new dies, still not decided which I can live without.

Fantastic thunder storm here last night...am I the only one who loves watching the lightening flashes? I used to sit in the door way with my gran when I was little so we could watch, I know we always had to have the door open but never knew why.

The garden is having a good watering here and the temperature has cooled down so feeling a bit more energetic than the last couple of days.

Take care everyone keep your fingers crossed for Sue's draws tomorrow .

    Love and hugs

  174. Hi Sue

Stunning card, I love the look of this technique but I have no alcohol inks and to be honest, I'm not sure I have the space for a new lot of mediums! I am confident I can find a cheats way, get a similar look with other types of inks and what have you. Just have to get to the damn table first! My to do list is pretty long now as a result. No birthdays til Mr W at the end of the month so there's time (in theory).

Happy birthday Lynda, hope you had a wonderful day, birthday hugs from me and wags n woofs from Billy. Xxxx

Hope those who saw Sue today had an amazing time xxx

  177. Hi Sue lovely to see this technique again one of my favs so addictive once you try it. I remember having sheets and sheets drying all over the house lol, it also takes me back to when I first saw you on TV with your stamping shows and as a stampaholic I do miss your creative flair with stamps and inks, although you are also a genius with dies and card😊? Will watch the video later to see how to Sue style.

  180. Good evening Sue and the wonderful Wilsonettes,
The colours that you have used to make the beautiful coloured background is gorgeous Sue as it reminds me of the beautiful autumn colours that will be upon us soon. I love the bright crisp white of the centre and base against the beauty of the vivid colours that you have used in the caught in crystal technique in the background. I always think this is beautiful Sue as no two come out the same so they are always one offs. On this silly iPad again as the computer once started up downstairs today refused to go onto the Internet hence the lateness of my little comment on today's very much a wonder of Wilson Thank you Sue for giving us another beauty to behold and to introduce some of our new Wilsonettes to the technique as they might not have seen it done before and I must admit to loving it each time as if it were the first because of the always changing designs that it comes up with so naturally on its own.
Hope you have had a lovely week Wilsonettes where ever you are because up here at the Costa de Glenochil we are still awaiting the suns presence as it has been none existent, warm enough but it has been that muggy kind of heat and rain and some smirky stuffy oh and then more rain. Sending hugs to all my Wilsonettes Angels that could do with some right at this present time for whatever reason, I hope that you are back up there with us again soon,
    Love and crafty hugs
    Norah (Glenochil )
