Wednesday Weekly Card Giveaway

Hi bloggers!  Back to a card giveaway day after missing it due to last week's die launch and giveaway.  While this card is pretty straightforward, nothing tricky, it is quite striking so I thought it was worthy of a giveaway day.  I stamped the Justrite Iron Swirls background stamp on to a piece of black card using a Clear Perfect Medium pad.  I heat embossed the image with True White detail embossing powder.  The image was then cut to size and matted with a thin white mat to frame it and make it pop.  I used the mauve seam binding and wrapped it both directions like a present, adding a messy bow to the junction.  I wanted to give it a bit of a feature so I cut the bow loops down the centre, creating a shabby chic sort of look with frayed edges.  I made two matching stick pins and added them to the bow, finishing it with a black jute twine bow and a crystal sparkler.  I stamped a sentiment and cut the ends into a flag.  I edged it with Shaded Lilac and then tucked the end under my sparkler.  To add a bit more colour, I added a pierced mat layer with a deep lilac card and followed with a thin white mat to set it off.  I finished the card with a black mat with Cosmic Shimmer black PVA glue dots around it and a final mat of lilac.  The finished dimensions are
6 1/2" x 7 3/4" in size.  If you would like to be entered in the drawing to win this card, just leave a comment on the post (directions are on the side of my blog if you have never done so).  I will draw a name and announce the winner on Saturday's blog post.

I still haven't had all the Christmas die winners claim their prizes.  Please check the list that was posted on Monday to see if your name is on it and email me!   All for now, Sue x

  15. Hi Sue
What a lovely card for the giveaway the style and colours are stunning.
I finally made my daughter Kara her birthday card for today and did some wonky mats and distress edges after seeing the video yesterday I think the open daisies will have to move up the wish list I have the other daisies and they are on Kara's card.
Wishing all with birthdays a very happy birthday and hope you all enjoy your day, and to the lady meeting her half brother enjoy your day in London.
I went to see the specialist yesterday and my next step is surgery and they will be removing bone replacing it with a tendon from my arm and doing the carpal tunnel at the same time the waiting list at the moment is 3 months so will need to get ahead with cards, I am having the left done first so that I can still carry on then have the right done.
Gentle hugs for baby Leo and big hugs to all the Wilsonettes and hope you all have a lovely day love and hugs
    Happy crafting

    morning Sue
You are really trying very hard to convert me to liking purple/black and I have to say you are having the desired effect little by little. Today's gift just shouts 'Edwardian' to me and I so love that era. You still had me a little on the edge of my seat by cutting your ribbon bows but it really does look beautiful. I will have all my fingers etc crossed as I just have the place ready for a piece of your art.

Norah - oh how I felt for you when I read your post last evening. My normal Sat. morning back home in the UK is for us to go to Meadowhall (our local shopping complex) meet up with Mr E's niece and her two little ones (we became adopted grandparents to them when Mr E's sister died 7yrs ago and her daughter was 8 months pregnant with her first baby) have a coffee etc and then leave them to do our shopping. It is part of my therapy in coping with a lot of people as I am so unsteady on my legs. Anyway Mr E had decided he wanted the toilet so I sat on a bench to wait for him. I started to feel really unwell sweating/clammy and a funny feeling in my left shoulder. When he came back he immediately fetched a first aider and before I new anything else I was being attended to by paramedics and waiting for an ambulance to take me to our local hospital. By lunchtime I had been to theatre had a stent put in one of my arteries which had blocked and hooked up to all the machinery in Cardio. I had had a heart attack. That was 3 years ago this coming month. It took me quite some time before I would go back to Meadowhall but eventually I saw sense and visited it on one day during the week and then the next time went on a Sat. morning.
Please do not let that one experience put you back in doors. You are a very strong lady in all ways so as I told Steph the other week 'pick yourself up; dust yourself down and start all over again' that's my song and it works. So please Rory had a ball at college and that is because of your strength.

Last story re baby Freddie the fox cub. My daughter and soninlaw took him to Tewksbury on Sunday to a charity rescue centre. They waited until he had been checked over and will be ringing the centre to make sure he has settled in. So one happy ending and a big success for them. They are now gearing up for Autumn/winter when it gets busy.

Hope everyone is feeling better this morning and ready for today's give away. Isn't it lovely to be back to normal; even though last week was fantastic.
    Take care and stay safe.

  26. Morning Sue, A really stunning card today, I love the colour combination and as you say the simplicity, although the finished product looks very intricut. This card shows that you don't always have to use dies to create a lovely card and your knowledge and design skills are so good in helping us all to do something a little different ourselves. I'd like to wish June a Happy Birthday, and agree where have all those years gone! My 67th is in a few weeks:( also. Cannot believe it. Linda.

  30. Good morning Sue and everyone,
A much better day today and the sun is shining. Wow! What a beautiful card in every way. That stamp on black card makes a stunning background and black and lilac are a marriage made in heaven like black and pink. This card looks quite simple to make...well simple for you Sue, but mine ever seem to turn out quite the same, but I will keep trying. I am going to see a relative today who has recently had heart surgery. She asked me to make her twelve Christmas cards, I don't really like making cards for people in case they don't like them, but we shall see what she thinks.
Happy birthday June, enjoy your day and love and hugs to everyone.

I Love The JustRight Iron Swirls Background Stamp It Looks Fabulous Heat Embossed In The True White Embossing Powder, It Looks Stunning On Black Card, (I've never been very good at background stamps as I'd always miss a bit here or there, so frustrating, until I kept watching your Video's and you kept using the technique where you actually take your card to the stamp, so I tried, I find this a lot better I'm not always perfect but I will keep pursuing it) I Love The Mauve Seam Binding That You've Used, And The Awesome Shabby Chic Bow, Beautiful Stick Pins, And A Wonderful Sparkler. Sue This Is An Amazing Card I Just Love It.

  94. Good morning Sue and Wilsonettes,
Although i am not a black fan, with all the beautiful white embossing it has really lifted the card into something different and Sue, i might even have a try at this now i have my true white embossing powder(YEHH). With the lilac ribbon and card it just looks so different and so pretty. The pretty stick pins that you have made just finish it off to perfection Sue, thank you. You know this blog is my lifeline in so many ways but apart from your cards and your friendship, the special people that come to the blog lift me up on the worst of days, so thank you lovely Sue and the lovely people that show they care, as i don't know what i would do without you all.
Pam, i have had a ball with everyone taking part in telling their childhood memory although it just started with my mind wandering back to a lifetime away and ramblings that i have to admit to being prone to do(sorry) but i have loved reading everyone's long a go memories, thank you girls escaping with me.
Pam, it will with everything willing go back down(it is probably because of your tumble that it is swollen), but to get back full movement you're going to have to endure more pain unfortunately. Try to think of the positives flower that will come out of this when finished, being able to walk again free of pain is what you are aiming for.
Happy Birthday June, I hope that you have a lovely day and enjoy your birthday meal out.
Maria, i hope you have a lovely time meeting your brother down in London, you have an awful lot of catching up to do. SO pleased that you found another part of your life's jigsaw, so another part to put in place.
Happy Birthday Kara, i hope that you have a magical day, lass.
Janet, those wee kiddies have the best kind of grandparents, ones that love them. More than that, i bet you and Mr E. were the favourite Uncle and Aunt for that young lass. You have gave her the nearest that she has to her mum and in that her mum will never truely be gone.Although my children had both sets of grandparents until Rory was 8, they only seen my mum and dad. Mr.M's parents decided that they didn't want a child in their house that couldn't behave. They just didn't want to know that Rory was autistic. They were fine with him until he had that MMR vaccine because until then he was just a normal happy wee baby boy and then he totally changed literally overnight after the jag. Since my children have never even had a birthday card from them. But you see it is probably my fault because i decided that if my son wasn't welcome, then neither was i and never went. Anyway what i was getting at is my old friends didn't have any grandchildren at the time and they sort of adopted my two, Kirsten being their little darling and all girlie and Rory who was loved because he took an interest in my friends planes and trains that he built. I have found that my children have the very best in aunts and uncles because they are all "adopted" and loved by each and every one of them. Who says you can't pick your relations? I think my children have done really well with their handpicked ones. Anyway getting back to you, boy am i glad that Mr. E. came back when he did and just lucky it wasn't like the ladies toilets where you have to queue. I would say i think but i know it wouldn't be as i know that i would come down with a full scale panic trying to go back after that happening, so well done you and so glad that you got help exactly when you needed it most.
Don't know if it is just me, but it is cold up here at the Ochils to the point i have a big heavy cardigan on, wonder if another sleep would help? Sending hugs to Robbie, Baby Leo, young Sam and all the fabulous Wilsonettes, thank you for your so many kindnesses that you all do,
    Love and crafty hugs

  96. Hi Sue,
What a stunning card! It is fairly simple but there are a few potential pitfalls along the way - particularly if you me! I love the colour combination and what you have done with the bow as well as wrapping the card like a lovely gift ! That's exactly what it is and we are so fortunate to have you, Sue, thank you once again for all you do for us
Sending hugs to you and your Mum.
I am going out for coffee this morning and leaving the chaos behind for an hour or so. Just to the local garden centre but they have a lovely coffee shop.
Happy Birthday - June ! Have a lovely day and a lovely lunch with your friend.
Mary - hope all went well yesterday at hospital!
Nanna Tina - hope you dont have to wait too long for your op. thinking of you.
Pam - sorry about the pain in your ankle. Do hope the swelling goes down very soon and that you feel the benefits of the physio rather than just the pain. Love to you and Robbie.
Sandra - hope you are not too tired out after your journey home.
Norah - hope you feeling a bit better today - been thinking about you. Love to you and Rory - got it right today!
Dawn Searle - hope your friend likes your cards - I'm sure she will.
Love to all other friends on the blog,

Thank you so much for all that you share with us Sue.

  124. Hi Sue. WOW !! Today's card is stunning !! I really love it !! The justrite iron swirls stamp just looks fab embossed with white embossing powder onto black card. A really lovey effect. I also like how you have wrapped the ribbon around the card, and the "different" style of bow you have made. Unusual but it is lovely !! As always Sue your stick pins are gorgeous !!
I would like to make a suggestion to you Sue. You make many little forked cards to put your sentiments on and I have noticed that you do this a lot. Personally I find I struggle a lot to find a die that is suitable for my size of sentiment. (Length wise.) To my knowledge there are no long thin dies out there to put long narrow sentiments on them. If you created a set of dies of differing lengths and different end designs I am sure they would be very warmly welcomed by many crafters !! I hope you don't think I am being to cheeky. It is just a suggestion but one I hope you may put some thought to. ( I would have e-mailed you personally but my iPad, for some reason is not letting me send stuff at the moment. )
I have made my Dad a 70th birthday card from the Bevelled Glass Striplet Die that I won from you Sue. I am very pleased with it !! If I can manage to get e-mails to send again I will sent it to you.
Wishing you lots of love and hugs today Sue love Tres x x x

  148. Hi Sue and lovely Wilsonettes. Before I forget !! Happy Birthday June. Have a really nice day xx
Tres - love your die idea. I type and print many sentiments that couldnt be found in stamp world (until Phil launched his family collection yesterday) from foster parents to foster children, to carer and all the 'so called' unusual family sentiments I have spent lots of hour's out of my craft time faffing about typing and printing then turning them into Sue Banners, so I think it would be FAB to have varying sizes of decorative banner dies, from tiny to large that hold the larger size computer text (20) in the drop down text size box as not to get lost on large cards (depending on font you use that is) ! Great idea.

Pam - hope your ankle has started to go down a little. I suppose they have suggested cool packs to help with the swelling ?
TOB, hope Emma has arrived safely, and our dear Cam, hope you are feeling a little brighter than you felt the BH weekend xx
Well, yet again, many a tear was shed last night after watching our daughter's dvd of her wedding, it was full of the stills that they didnt inckude in their album and all set to their wedding music, oh my, I was a sobbing wreck LOL and Mr L is on his way to collect them to drop off at their airport hotel before their flight to Kefalonia to enjoy their 2 week honeymoon tomorrow (the place where she was proposed to last June) ahh bless LOL a beautiful island for our beautiful newlyweds.

Anyway onto the main star - our W.O.W. (wonder of wilson) such a lovely background stamp Sue worthy of not being hidden too much. Black white purple, what a lovely combo of colour's. I have just one Justrite background stamp but Im not very good at using background stamps, more practice is required me thinks !
It really is a stunning card. Should my luck be turning and Im lucky for my name to be chosen, as I was SO lucky last week, Id like it to go back for a 2nd draw attempt please if possible, just seems fair to me, after all, its not the only chance to receive a W.O.W.

Well I hope you are well and happy Sue, and to my many very special friends here I wish you love and friendly hugs (you know who you all are) Thank you for being YOU.
Sending special thanks to Sue for this remarkable safe home of craft and care.

  171. Hi Sue,

A W.O.W (to quote Steph!) to be sure! I love this stamp, will have it soon with luck. The monochrome with a hint of purple is just gorgeous. Soon as Alex's stuff is finished I am sorting through my beads and having a stick pin evening. I have a tv table that I bead or put the laptop on so I can see a nice evening watching the football and making stick pins up ahead. I may even treat myself with something otherwise forbidden- mmm, chocolate! I love the 'giftwrap' look and use it a lot, usually to cover up an inky finger print, paper/ embossing that doesn't match up etc. We've all been there surely?! I have said before how much I love the daisy so that also will be coming here in the next month or so. Note to self, must sort that next lot for eBay! I did love yesterday's card. My "baby" sisters are getting very grown up now so that style of card will be ideal for them. Having issues getting my notification emails so I need to get on the laptop to sort it out as trying to do it on the mobile is a nightmare! Finally I agree with Tres, I have to often make my own sentiments on the computer as I have a very extended and complicated family! Phill's stamps will save me a struggle but dies that fit slightly longer greetings and sentiments would help so much. Trying to fit "For a wonderful Step-Mum" in a readable font on a die was a particular nightmare I had this year. Yes, I could have put it on a banner on the computer and printed it, cut it out but omg, if you could see my cutting out! When I attempt this I print out six, cut them all out and pick the best one. An hour and a half of pure stress and numb fingers!!! And there is NO chance of a mat! As you can guarantee not one of the dies I have will mat it the way I want it! I am probably being too fussy but Sue, if you pursue the idea I would be delighted :-) hope both you and your Mom are well xxx

Happy birthday June, have a wonderful day,

Norah, I'm so happy for Rory. I feel for you though as I know how much I hate being in busy places, with the world happening 2 1/2 foot above my head. I've been trapped at home for most of the last four years and it's not fun. Give yourself a few days to recover then go somewhere nearby and quieter as soon as you can and build up your confidence going busier places gradually. Think of it as 'crowd physiotherapy' or something like that! Everyone feels vulnerable at sometime in their lives, it's normal but don't let it get to you. I have absolute faith you can be back to going out wherever you want to very soon xxx

Lindsay, the gymkhana will be amazing, I am sure of it! I know how much kids love events like that and I hope the weather is kind to you xxx

Yesterday I felt a lot brighter. My best day in ages! I was able to do a few tasks that I'd been waiting to do, I did some exercises too. My knees are rebelling today, reminding me to be careful how I go about this! A little tired today but with Alex's birthday Friday I need to make him a card. Will have to play this with care as he'd like us to join him for a meal Friday evening so I must not mess myself up as it'll be the last time we go out before he leaves.

So with that my dear Wilsonettes I must go. Mr W will be home in an hour or so and will want to vent about work so I must try get something done. Special hugs for my awesome, supportive Wilsonette friends, healing hugs for those who are ill, in hospital or in any pain and of course hugs and wishes of happy crafting to Wilsonettes from everywhere.

    Until tomorrow, T xxx
