On Your Special Day

Good Sunday morning all!  A cream and black number for today.  I started by inking up the Byzantine mask with a clear Perfect Medium pad and embossing it on to milk coloured card.  The ink was then transferred to the recessed areas in the background.  I heat embossed these with Ivory embossing powder for a tone on tone look.  I matted it with a thin black mat.  For the focal element, I used the Lacy Tier die set and cut it in black to create a frame.  I stamped the Ribbon and Swags stamp from Justrite in black Archival and cut it out with a circle die.  I mounted it on foam above my frame.  I stamped the sentiment in black and cut it out with a small decagon die and inked it with Antique Linen.  I mounted it in the centre.  I tied a messy bow out of chalk seam binding and added it to the corner of the focal element.  I finished the bow with some cream pearl string pieces, a crystal sparkler and two fancy stick pins.  I finished the card by adding a milk coloured mat that I pierced, then a thin black mat and a final milk mat.  The finished dimensions are 7 1/2" x 7 1/2" in size.

Now for the Sunday Comment Game winners!  This week's winners are:
Virgina Davey!!!
Ang!!!
Yvonne Masterman!!!

Congratulations all!  Please email me at americansue1@gmail.com to confirm your address and claim your prize.  All for now, Sue x

  12. GM Sue - sunny here today! Love this card - it's a must try although I will have to make a few substitutes - lovn those stick pins.

Many thanks to all those Wilsonettes who responded to my question yday about how they store their A4 card - appreciated - it was very interesting to hear others views - I think in colours is the way to go it's just a question of what in - I am thinking a drawer unit of some description would work best for me - give me a week or two to get it sorted and I'll let you know what I did and how I find it to use - think it will be worth the investment in time sorting thro it all from what you folks have said. Thanks again

Sun is streaming through the windows this morning,so different from the rain yesterday. Our racing pigeons are sitting on the huge transporter (nearly 10,000 of them) waiting to be released from Carentan in France for their race home. They are amazing as they will be home in around three hours. Today's card is just stunning, I love the stamp and embossing folder, they will have to go on my wish list. I hope everyone has a wonderful day.

  18. This card has reminded me of a technique I had forgotten about. I've been using masks to ink through but had forgotten about using my embossing powder through them. This card is stunning, I love black and white but the idea of embossing through the mask has been a real memory jogger, thanks for jogging my memory.
    Take care.

  21. Hi Sue,
This card is right up my street, I love it! It is very elegant. Even though I don't usually like black on cards ,I do like this probably because the black isn't too overpowering. I hope that makes sense.hope you and your Mom are still having a good time together.
Well, at least it has stopped raining here in Durham ( for the moment!) the garden is looking very sad at the moment. All of my beautiful aquilegias have been flattened and one of my specialist clematis just looks soggy! It's quite depressing really. I feel sorry for all of you who got soggy and soaked yesterday whilst walking the pooches or teaching (Lindsay). At least with a cat that doesn't happen! Steph I hope you didn't get too wet in York and that you had a good time. Norah, I hope you manage to get things sorted out - as you say MEN! Love and hugs to everyone from Alison xxx

    letterpressing with the embossing
powder very effective. Claire W I store my A4 paper and card in the A4
plastic containers and I bought a
cardboard storage unit that takes 8 of them it was only £15 and I have 3 of them on
a wooden unit from Ikea they are great
you just pull them out when needed
and you only need 4 as I don't bother with lids on top so you just
    use the lids as well.

    morning Sue
We are still very damp and cold here in Sheffield this morning after an awful day yesterday of rain rain and yet more rain.
Today's gift is very majestic and regal - but then of course black/white is always a very classic colour scheme and I never tire of it. I love the stamp you used on today's gift; it just shouts class and I would be over the moon if such a gift came through my door.
We had a lovely birthday party yesterday for my great grand daughter despite the weather and the bouncy castle having to be cancelled (at least no visit to A&E), Having both my daughters, son in laws, grand children and great grandchildren (ages 3yrs, 8months and 3months)in one place at the same time doesn't often happen but when it does it is very very special.
Hope everyone has a good bank holiday. congratulations to the very lucky winners. Take care everyone and see you tomorrow.

  40. Anotber lovely card-classic colours for a classy card. Well done to the winners. During the torrential rain yesterday I "sorted" out my dies-78 sets put on magnetic sheets then in plastic wallets all labelled with their titles as I was fed up of striggling to find the set I wanted. Only alphabets & grand dies to sort then I can make the most of a wet bank holiday/day off work and make some cards.

The sun is shining at the moment here, but the clouds are gathering, we had to put the heating on the past two nights(much to OH displeasure) the response was "heating on in May"! But it went on, my old arthritic bones just don't like the cold, even went as far as a hot water bottle on Friday night!
Lynda you weren't far off picturing me clearing the devastation after my two little whirlwinds had visited me in the craft room, I fashioned then a stick with odd bits of ribbon to distract them, but alas no, they much preferred the things I didn't want them to have, should I be mean and shut them out?!
Cameeli I bet you can't wait to see your son and new daughter in law, I bet they are looking forward to a nice 'mums' cooked dinner too! First thing I want when I have been on holiday is a proper Sunday roast!
Mrs B, that is more than likely where we gave met, I my two older children (well 19 & 21) both have Psoriatic arthritis and I am under a consultant there too, so we almost need our own car park so space we are there that often ! Haha X
Janet I bet you are exhausted after yesterday, but like you I love days when all the family are in one place x
Michelle wow you are so organised, my problem is putting them all back when I have finished finding just the right one!
Steph, hope you enjoyed York ! X
    Hugs to all,
    Sandra xx

  123. Hi Sue, beautiful combo of milk/black very classy. Love the tone/tone embossing on the background. Thanks for sharing. Lol lynne m x x x

Double yuck - fur babies have turned into cats as they are bringing in dead baby birds from the garden ( we have quite a few nests) and leaving the presents in the hallway. Good job hubby home cuz I can't touch them. I do wonder what animals my fur babies are made up of, cuz they jump like kangaroos, bring in pressies like cats and thats just a couple they act like.

Lynda - massive furry hugs to Annie and Bambi from little b's , gentle hugs from me x x
Lyndsay - lol and hugs to foals and you x x
Norah , Alison , June , Karen and Tres - lol to you x x

  131. So disappointed I never got to meet up with Norah, I went round and round looking for her and even asked a lady in a scooter (even although I couldn't see a WOW badge) if her name was Norah but I had to leave at 1:30 as we were going back to our daughters house, anyway if you got there Norah I hope you found some goodies and enjoyed it, I thought it was quite good even though it was small .

  139. Hi Sue,
    Hi all crafting friends!
A little late today. Today's card is really lovely! Sorry Sue I'm too tired to have a go at that one tonight! I tried yesterday's out last night using Creative Expressions sunflower stamp. I was quite pleased with it - not up to your standards or anywhere near but more than ok! I love black and white/ cream and will try this out but not today!
Family lunch here then crafting with grandchildren ! Just tidied up. At one point husband and son were both asleep in respective chairs! Typical! However they both work hard so are forgiven - well almost!
Pam I do hope you have a lovely day with the family and a cosy chatty sleepover!
Sorry for all those who got a soaking yesterday! Been a better day here today.
Anne sorry you didn't manage to meet up with Norah. Was trying to picture ythe other ladies face when you asked her if she was Norah! That's just what I'd have done. Pleased you had a good time.
Steph, hope you're ok ! Can't wait to here how your outing went. Hope you not too tired.
Sending love to all the lovely ladies on this special blog!
Take care, love to Sue and Mum,
    Love Myra

  142. Good evening Sue,
Today's card is so elegant and gorgeous. I really would like to be in Sue Wilson's crafty head and see all the ideas swirling around in there! I don't know how you think of all these designs year, after year.
I've just come in after being at Durham Cricket Club watching England getting well and truly beaten by Sri Lanka. My niece took me and my husband and the sun shone most of the day, T shirt weather inside the ground - great.
Congrats to all the lucky winners and I hope everyone enjoyed their bank holiday xx

  143. Good afternoon Sue and fellow Wilsonettes,
Another winner of a card Sue and not too dark with the black. It is this side of the nice monotone look and would suit a number of people, even the dreaded male without the bow.
Sorry i didn't get to meet you Anne, I was in a lime green twinset with long hair in a half pony tail on my wee black scooter. I was so looking forward to it as well as you have a sort of picture in your mind of what people might look like. I was the one that looked and felt absolutely knackered. Unfortunately i left about 12:15 as i was so tired and sore by that time. It was a nice wee show and seemed a bit more friendlier than the big shows. Normally folk don't seem to notice me down at their feet, but i bet they would notice quick enough if i ran into them or over them. I enjoyed watching Ally's Inky Fingers as she made some flowers with the clay, WOW they looked so real the lilies and the roses that she had made. Now i have never been tempted in to the clay craft before now, but i just might have a wee try at that and maybe the coolness of the clay will help with the burning sensation that goes through the hands. The exhibitors were so nice as well and helped me get things that i couldn't get to, they guided people aside so that i could get out etc. As i said it was a really nice wee friendly show for both exhibitors and crafters for the help they gave me.
Pam, enjoy the boys sleepover at grandma's, are they identical? or pranksters? I know we shouldn't encourage them to be naughty like that, but if its good clean fun what harm does it do.
Janet(Ecco), what a shame that the bairn couldn't get the bouncy castle because of the weather, but i think it would have been the adults that would have landed in the a&e some how as they can't seem to see a bouncy castle and leave it for the kiddies.
How very right you are Mrs B. as they are still waiting today for me to finish my lot and then find new homes for the rest of the stuff he dragged out. When you ask "Where do you want me to put it" i get the reply saying he doesn't know but not his shed (which is really a 20'x12'6" garage). It's that thin air i'm running short on because that's the only other place i can put the things.
Sandra, you kidding on about your own hospital car parking space makes me think of my mum who everytime she booked a holiday, it turned out to be Stirling Royal Infirmary. She has a permanent hospital bag ready just to lift if she is ever taken back in. She used to have Jim and I go and make friends with all the ladies and gentlemen that she knew had no visitors so they didn't feel so alone. I put it down to that as the reason that i will literally talk to anyone that i see down looking. It's amazing just how many people will give a smile when you say good morning or that to them, as it does turn that frown upside down.
Lynne it is "lovely" that your fur babies love you SO much that they bring you presents. They are so clever because they keep mum and dad fit, they make sure you have washed the floor right by showing you where the mucky spots are, they help you with your negotiating skills and juggling acts. They keep you and others entertained, so what more could you ask for.
Right that's me just to say well done girls on winning this week. Special hugs to our dear blog friends that need that wee bit extra comfort and prayers. Take care everyone and i hope that the sun is shining inside even if its not outside,
    Love and crafty hugs
    Norah (Glenochil)

  148. Hi Sue,
    Just popped back!
Maureen I love cricket - my Dad's to blame! Trouble is he was a Scot and we had no team then! I know we lost but hope you enjoyed your day.
Norah so pleased you had a good day! Life throws strange things at us! I had an older cousin with Downs. He was so lovely and I was his favourite cousin - but through knowing and loving him I now find it so easy to talk to others. It is just natural as he was just my cousin his learning disability did not come into it!
Must go as I tend to ramble,
    Love to all, Myra
