You're The Best!

Hi my crafty friends!  I think this is a bank holiday for you if you are in the UK, so hopefully that will mean a nice crafty day for you!  This card seems exceedingly simple upon first glance.  I have used the Filigree Delight die set once again.  This time, however, I decided to use it in conjunction with the Grateful Lattice background die in a very subtle way.  I picked some Graphic 45 backing paper from my craft stash and then cut my Grateful Lattice out of sheer vellum for just a hint of an overlay on my backing paper.  It is not obvious, it makes you work to see it, but it adds a nice texture for interest.  I use Cosmic Shimmer dries clear glue in the corners of the backing paper, then I wipe it from a dot to more of a smear.  I find that this holds the vellum beautifully and doesn't show.  I decided to leave the edge of the background and add flat back pearls in each of the sections as accents.  Next I cut the Filigree Delight die using the inner oval die out of coconut white card to make a frame.  I added some very small pieces of foam mounting to the back for dimension and added this piece to the centre of my card.  I stamped my sentiment in Black archival ink and cut it out with the smaller tag piece in the set.  I used Tattered Rose Distress ink to lightly ink it for a pretty shadow.  I mounted this piece across the centre of the Filigree Delight focal element.  I tied a messy bow out of Flesh Seam Binding and used some Tattered Rose ink on it to distress it further.  I spritzed it and crumpled it for a shabby chic look.  I tied a piece of white tulle and added my bow on top of it in the corner.  I made a white rose as an accent by following the tutorial at the top of my blog.  I "sugared" it by adding Cosmic Shimmer  dries clear glue with my finger all over it, then dipping it in the Rock Candy Dry Glitter.  I used a glue dot and attached it to the centre of my bow and added two pearl stick pins as accents.  I added a double white mat of coconut white card and using my piercing ruler, I added pierced holes to the inner mat as a frame.  Finished dimensions are 6 1/2" x 7 1/2" in size.  Enjoy your bank  holiday!  All for now, Sue x

Today's card is so pretty, I must try using vellum with my dies it looks gorgeous. That's a good tip for attaching the vellum, I have bought so many 'vellum glues' but they all show through. I always end up hiding the glue behind a topper or attaching with brads.

    Good morning Sue,
It's just beautiful - everything about it - the way you've used the grateful lattice, the white rose and the gorgeous bow (I love that seam binding).
Will certainly use more of my vellums now that I know how to attach it without resorting to measures like Heather T.
Weather here is gorgeous sunshine but only 13 degrees Celsius - so no sleeveless outdoor attire just yet for me.

    morning Sue
Would you believe we have a beautiful sunny and warm morning here and it's a bank holiday!!!!!
I love the format of today's gift but not quite sure of the colour scheme would like to try it out in different colours. I bought the lattice die and had it delivered only this last week so I will definitely be playing. I really like vellum as an overlay it creates a magic view and tones down any harsh colours.

Loving this card - would never have thought of putting a velum overlay on a card but it does at that bit extra.

    Loving the colour too.

  153. Beautiful card, Sue, so feminine and dainty and wonderful use of vellum in the background, though I DO think you are taunting me with that gorgeous die that I am wanting.

  155. Hi Sue,

Gorgeous card, really like seeing you use vellum. It gives another layer, but without great depth, which is needed these days when posting. TFS

    Dear Sue
What a very pretty card this is with all the subtle layers it has. The vellum looks so pretty die cut with the grateful lattice die and adds more beauty to the background to the filigree frame die and sentiment on the tag piece in the centre. I was sure on first looking at this card that you had used microbeads on the background paper but you don't mention them so I assume it must be the background papers' design.

I've had a lovely day making cards using my Spellbinder dies and Grand Calibur I've made 7 small cards but I took my time and thought a lot about each one and they were only simple cards nothing very fancy and certainly not up to your standards, but I enjoyed myself.
It was too hot to sit out for me but I sat in the lounge with the back door open and crafted with the sunshine and breeze coming in a lovely day.

I hope you had a good day too.

    Best wishes from Katie-Louise Sweetlove

  171. This is so so pretty Sue. What a great idea to remind us that we can use our vellum for that beautiful "soft focus" look. Loving the colours, the rose and the stunning bow too! Spent some with my mum and dad, (yesterday now) and had fish and chips for tea! They keep going at 84 and 82, they're an inspiration at their ages. Hope you're still having a great time with your family and that you're having the same beautiful sunshine there too! xx Love Karen xx
