Distressed Vintage Card And Paved Pearl Tutorial

Hi guys!    I love this stamp  and I think I would make the "Going Places" set from Justrite my new go to set for guy cards because of it.  This was a bit of fun for me to put together because it had some messy bits and I was in one of those messy kind of moods that day.  I started with the embossed background and I covered a piece of old card with some of the self adhesive foil tape you can get from a hardware store (I think it is used for plumbing things, but I'm not positive!)  I used the Brick embossibility folder to give the texture.  Once embossed, I used some fine sandpaper to rough it up a bit.  I used some black soot distress ink direct from the pad over the top and heat set it.  I wanted it a tad more distressed so I used some black Eco-paint in spots.  I brushed it on and then rubbed with a piece of kitchen roll to remove most of it.   Next I stamped my vintage card on pale grey card using a black archival ink pad.  I cut it out with the matching die and inked the edges with pumice stone distress ink.  I mounted it on foam in the centre of the card.  I then stamped the large decorative shape from the With Gratitude set.  I used a black archival and clear heat embossed it this time.  I cut it out with the matching die shape and then cut it in half with a paper cutter.  I glued the pieces to the top and bottom of my card as a decorative element.

I mounted the entire piece on foam and cut a large grey mat for it.  I gave the mat about a half inch around my background so I had plenty of room to play with my Cosmic Shimmer PVA glue dots.  I created my paved pearl technique around the edges using the silver PVA glue.  I do a section at a time and do all the largest dots first randomly.  Then I go back and place medium sized dots around and finally finish with the smallest sized dots to complete an edge.  Your card will become a bit wavy as you are doing this, but I have found it flattens out a bit once it is dry.  I have taken pictures of each step so you can follow along easily.

Finished Dimensions are 6 1/2" x 8" in size.  All for now, Sue x

  23. GM Sue - I think this card is really different - I haven't tried the paved pearl technique yet - I want to though - I haven't tried it yet because I think I would mess it up! Perhaps I'll try a test run on a really small card in the first instance and work up from there! I'll let you know how it goes....

  26. Good Morning Sue

I love this card as others have said a great male card and the tutorial on your cosmic shimmer process on your cards was very clear and concise and am sure a lot of help for people.

I have until now done my dots when the card is finished and put together but you have to be so careful you don't make mistakes. I shall do it your way from now on and then there is no risk to your main card.

It is funny how you can't see the wood for the trees and someone just points something out that is so simple but sometimes you are just doing instead of thinking about what you are doing LOL! Thanks a lot

    morning Sue
What a fantastic card and really one any guy would love to receive at any age from late teens upwards. I love the idea of using non crafty goods as it means that not all crafty goodies are that expensive. I admit I use anything I can that's convertible to craft and it's always a surprise as you never know how things will turn out.
