With Gratitude

Hi everyone!  Back to Vintage Lace designed cards for a bit, just be prepared for the Christmas cards to keep popping back on the blog every few days as I have a bunch of them to post!  I don't often put maroon or burgundy with cream and black, but I rather like it so it may just have to make some further appearances in my card making future.  I started with a selection of background papers from Canvas Corp, a cream script and a damask print.  This paper is really lovely to work with, it's a nice weight and it has a kraft card feel to it.  I think it is recycled paper, which is great!  I divided the papers into sections for the background, two large and one small at the top.  I matted all with a piece of burgundy card matching my ribbon and pierced the edges before adding a final mat of black.  I cut two of the largest Vintage lace motifs in black card and one in burgundy card.  I stamped one of the Design Element stamps using maroon archival ink and cut it out with Labels 18.  While in the die, I used a very light inking of Black Soot ink around the edges of the die for a shadow. I also stamped my sentiment and cut it out with the small phrase shape from the set.  This was inked in the same manner.  I attached my motifs in a diagonal across the card and placed the Label shape in the centre of them.  I added my phrase to the upper corner. Using some 1/2 inch wide satin/grosgrain ribbon, I tied a messy bow.  I like this ribbon and haven't used it much but it is very nice, lovely texture.   I added it in the bottom corner atop a strip of it that I had run from top to bottom of the card.  I found this fancy button while in the States that I used to cover my knot and added a few black pearl stick pins.  I added three half pearls in black to the upper and lower edges of my motifs to finish off the card.  More tomorrow.  All for now, Sue x

  8. Good morning Sue
It's great to see a return of your vintage lace dies...even though it has only been a few days since we last saw them.
The maroon/burgundy go very well with the black and cream. They have victorian feel....and your bows are never 'messy' they're beautiful!
The design element stamp is pretty, love how you've set the lace die cuts at an angle.
    As usual a beautiful card!
    have a great day!

  26. Look at these designs...Fab!! Our Sue certainly needs her own regular show on C&C as I've said here before. Do you send comments when Sue IS on? Why not request that the powers that be give Sue her own programme when you do? I did each time on this set of shows. It wasn't my fault the email service on there stopped....honest!! Next time; if we do it together we may make a difference. Hope Sue agrees to do it though, lol Mabex

  113. When i saw this on C&C Sue, i fell in love cause these are my kinda colours and this card just screamed classy & elegant!! I love most of the colours you use, but this and the Teal coloured cards just seem to pop out more than the rest, yes, defo a favourite and as soon as i get my hands on your dies i will be making some lovely cards too,you really can't go too far wrong with Spellbinders can you? I havent bought any of the Christmas dies as i have a couple of sets from last year and send out less than 20 cards every year so its not cost effective for me, but as soon as i can i will be buying your two sets and then wait for you to come back to C&C with everyday bundles, instead of christmas. I am always in awe of your work and the thing you do different to most of us and why i love your work so much is, what i have said before, you look at, and use, the dies in ways i would have never seen or done, and thats what makes your cards extra special honey, thankyou so much for your daily inspiration it really helps us mere mortal crafters, lol xxx huggles, Vick

Love the colours - they remind me of something I've seen but I can't think what! The layout's really nice too, well everything is, don't think I've seen the ribbon before and it's well suited to this particular card. I've got your dies so have printed out the instructions and will try it sometime soon.
Not tonight though - I stayed up to watch David Bowie on tv last night and couldn't resist dancing and singing along too. Was pleased I still knew all the words and for the first couple of hours it felt like I was 26 again, but eventually I had to sit down and admit I'm actually 66. It was great though and I watched until 3.30am!
Hope you're having a good weekend,

  152. Hi Sue
Another beautiful card. I really like the maroon and black together - very classy. If you think your bows are messy - you should see mine! They never seem to come out right! Loved the dies on C&C - already have some from last year I think. The poinsettia and filigree tree were gorgeous but unfortunately couldn't afford both of the sets. Is there any chance that these might come as single packs in a future show?
All for now - thanks again.

  155. Hello Sue & oh "WOW!" This is gorgeous Sue! So so elegant for some reason(I don't know why....) it reminds me of Victorianna style, which I love. I could see one of those fancy dresses that they wore in those times in these colours. I love these colours together & it would be lovely to see a few a more cards in these colours, yes please! Every card you do is a different style & colour but beautiful in their own right! Like the papers from Canvas Corp......& the button! xx Love Karen xx
