Cute As A Button

IHi guys!  I hope you don't mind seeing a few more sewing cards!  This card is all done in navy blue and cream using a mixture of patterned papers in those colours.  Yes, you have spotted my much beloved hounds tooth pattern in the background, along with some dots, checks and stripes too.  I used Mom's sewing machine to put a zigzag stitch around the edge of the background card as an accent.  I layered up a few more papers, then stamped my sentiment and cut the largest square swatch die and mounted in with a navy blue mat.  I offset it on the card.  I cut a smaller swatch out of striped card and used it for a background for my pin cushion.  I had a bit of fun with this piece as I die cut it out of felt and sewed lines into it.  I added some real pins to it too.  You can see these in the close up picture.  I stamped my tape measure and cut out a thimble from the Sewing Elements set and mounted them both with my pin cushion. I cut one more of the square swatches, this time a rather small one, out of blue coordination's card.  I sanded it a bit so it looks like a piece of denim.   I added a piece of cream crocheted ribbon across the bottom of the card.  I ruched my blue vintage ribbon down the centre of it and added a messy bow.  I topped my bow with a button and some Bakers Twine.  I finished the card by randomly adding some buttons to a few places on the background.  I hope you have enjoyed the different looks that this sewing set can give.  All for now, Sue x

  10. Hi Sue,
wonderful card. Love the hounds tooth paper, and the colours are fab. When I made my sewing card and photo copied a tape measure as I haven't got the stamp. I used a large scolloped edge in mirror card, so it looked real. Just an idea to pass on to everyone. Have a great crafty day everyone.

I am so pleased you showed this card, I fell in love with the felted/sewn pin cushion when I first saw it on TV. A gorgeous card and the dogstooth is lovely and a perfect combo for a sewing card as it was such a favourite fabric pattern here for many years. I remember having it, in very small print, on a tailored, waisted suit for my sisters wedding (cannot for the life of me remember the date though!). It was very Joan Collins; shoulder pads, tight fitted waist and pencil skirt (I had the figure then!!). I loved the pattern then and I love it still.
    All the best Linda

  164. Gorgeous! Love the cream and navy, as well as the dotted swiss & houndstooth. The sewing pins, buttons, pin cushion and ribbon were great added touches. One of my favorites (though I think I say that for every card you make). ;-)

  178. Hi Sue, am only making cards with a year and only got my grand calibur in the last couple of months, so don't have that many dies yet, but really love this card, beautiful colours and the sewing incorporated into it, love the idea of sewing with my sewing machine but haven't tried it yet, as am no expert with a sewing machine either, do you use a special machine needle to go through card?
