For The Guys

Hi my crafty friends!  Today's post was selected with the requests I've had for male cards in mind.  We have all struggled with making a card for the males in our lives, haven't we?  Here I have tried to stay with a distinctively masculine colour palette which is half the battle for these types of cards.  The other half is picking die templates to use.  I started with a background paper (Graphic 45) and added Fleur de Lis borders around the entire edge.  I cut these using a coordinations cardstock and then sanded back the embossed design for a distressed look.  The focal element was created using Labels twenty three, which I also sanded for distress.  I cut a smaller one in a lighter shade for contrast.  The sentiment was stamped and cut out with one of the Fancy Tags and inked with Antique Linen through the die.  Another was cut in black, cut in half and then attached as a shadow accent. I cut a couple of fleur de lis accents to hug the top and bottom of my sentiment.   Paper piercing and a final black mat finished off the card for me.  If you wanted to keep the card simple with a Happy Birthday or Happy Father's Day sentiment, it would work great for that too, don't you think?  All for now, Sue x

reminds me of the music hall days (the good old days on tv) not that i am old enough to remember but have seen repeats. If you change the colour brill for anyone. Can imagine a clown or big top in it for a child too. Love the illusion of it getting deeper.

  42. Hi Sue, I love this card for the men in my life & yes I've learnt another technique. I hadn't thought of using the borders coming into the card. It really closes off the design giving a heavier, more masculine look. I also like the way you've overlapped the borders rather than mitre the corners. I find getting the perfect 45 degree angle so time consuming. With Love & Light Theresa. H

  107. Super, super card, Sue. I absolutely love everything about it. Recognize the sentiment as being from the Gratitudes - my favourite set at the moment. Can't wait to try this card, or something like - I don't think I have the fleur de lis border, unfortunately, as if I did I could have used Jenny L's tip and not spent most of today searching for my piercing ruler which seems to have joined the purple pokey tool that vanished a few weeks ago & has not reappeared yet. I have a spare pokey tool but my other ruler is a plain metal one, so no handy holes to guide me now. Sue x

Me again Sue, Hope you won't mind this follow up but I've just had a look through my dies and discovered a little one in the lace doily motifs set that has a row of straight holes I can use - and turn a corner with too! Never thought of using dies for piercing before so wanted to leave a thank you to Jenny L for a great tip. What a great blog this is! I learn so much, not only crafting either - computing tips too! Many thanks Sue, Sue P x

  110. Hi Sue,
Well I am singing again and smiling broadly, even though it is well past 2am. Todays wonderful creation has made me sing an all time favourite song, from an all time favourite film. My father, owning a lovely alto tenor voice, used to sing this and it used to make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. My clues today are the film title, 'My Fair Lady' and railings around a house (stripy backing paper and fleur de lis border - see it?. Now if you don't know the film very well, you will be wondering if I have truly lost it now. Ok, I'll tell you.
'I have often walked down this street before, but the pavement always stayed beneath my feet before...., knowing I'm on the street where you live.' Boy am I smiling now, I just adore this song, I find it very uplifting and a lovely memory of my dad too.
Anyway Sue, thanks for this lovely card and for the song, I am going to sleep now with a very cheerful mindset. Nite nite.
    Hugs Linda

I ain't saying your content is not solid., but suppose you added something that makes people want more? I mean "For The Guys" is kinda plain. You might glance at Yahoo's home page and note
