Hope Your Birthday Is Unforgettable!

Hello there my crafty friends!  I wanted to share a technique that I did here, but it has been ages since the last time I did it!  I started with a piece of black card for my background.  The technique is called Faux Suede and all you need to do for this is to break down the fibers in the card first.  This can be done by running the card through a crimper several times or folding it randomly then using your thumbnail to continue to break down the fibers by rubbing the card.  Once the fibers have been broken down sufficiently, you will be able to split the card in half by peeling a layer away.  If you look at the close ups of the background, it has the texture of a piece of suede leather.  Once I separated the layers, I tore around the edge to give it an even more distressed look .  I cut Sam Poole's Cheesecloth die out of Ranger glassine paper and glued it to the background.  I used her Rustic Honeycomb die cut from white card and glued it to the card.  Next I stamped and cut out the Elephant die and used Distress markers to colour it.  I added the elephant with mounting foam to the centre of the card.  I stamped the sentiment from the clear Safari Tags stamp set and cut it out with the Safari Tags die set.  I added it to the background with mounting foam.  The card was completed with white and black mats and layers.  The finished dimensions are 7 1/2"  x  9"  in size.  All for now, Sue x

  4. Oh my word Sue. This is powerful, strong, has meaning and hits my heart at 100mph.

The shading alone all dark and grey makes him look like he wants to beg for safety, to be kept safe from trophy hunters and the cruel world of humans loving ivory. Although your Inspiration is amazing it tells a story, its a stunning piece of work but makes me sad.
Sorry if I've bought you down with me, I write what I see - beauty in crisis.
Trish, sorry you're surgery left you feeling down and in pain, I wish we could all just hug each other, a big strong hug xxx

    Good Morning Sue and all.
What a gorgeous card this is. I'm not even tempted to try the wonderful technique you have used but if I were thirty or forty years younger and with great sight I may well have had a go.
The Elephant is so lovely and I can't find words for that wonderful background. I've never heard the name of that card before either. Glassine?
Thank you so much Sue for sharing.
Hugs to all that need them.

  43. I love this card! Not only does it work for guy cards but it can work for a girl card too. My daughter used to collect elephant ephemera when she was younger. I would add a bit of a more feminine colored embellishment and a bit of bling and she’d love the card. I’m adding this to my must have list.
