Hi bloggers! I have a lovely, serene African Animal card to share with you today. I started with the background and used
Lava Red, Burnt Orange and Straw Yellow Pixie Powders on a piece of
coconut white card. I spritzed them with water to activate and then covered them with a piece of plastic wrap. I scrunched it up, creating some lovely wrinkled areas and left it to dry overnight. I removed it in the morning and it pulled much of the mica up into the wrinkled areas for a really pretty pattern (you can see it nicely in some of the close up pics). Next I cut a square frame using the
Double Stitched Square die set and added mounting foam to the back. I cut a circle out of the centre die from the
Eliza to use as a sun and attached it in the corner of the square, then added it to the centre of the card. I cut the two giraffes from the
African Animal die set out of
black card and glued them inside the frame. Next I cut several of the African trees from the
African Adventure set in the different sizes and glued them around the top of the frame. I added the grass to the lower edge then cut the sentiment and glued it in place between the grass and the frame. The card was completed with white and black mats and layers. The finished dimensions are 7 1/4" x 8 3/4" in size. All for now, Sue x

Take care and have fun Kitty.
A new week and a gorgeous start. It has to be said Sue, Is there anything you can't do ? As soon as this sample loaded my initial thought was "wow this woman has so much talent" not only do you design the most wonderful dies, you are a true artist, this could be a canvas painted by some professional wildlife artist, it's just brilliant. Your inspiration is never ending and I for one wouldn't enjoy crafting like I do if it wasn't for you, thank you xxx

ReplyDeleteThis is so clever in lots of ways I love the way you’ve created the background- a definite one to try and the way you’v Added a smallish frame for the focal element meaning you can create a bigger card Adding the trees etc are not in perspective to the background but boy it so works

ReplyDeleteMorning Sue,
ReplyDeleteWOW! I'm so pleased you've given me another idea for using your African themed dies as I'm using them for my family birthday cards for 2019.
The background reminds me of sunsets seen on my visits to Africa and I must give your technique a try. Love the idea of the small frame showcasing the giraffes. Hugs xx Pauline

ReplyDeleteGood morning all.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful way to start the week Sue. I bought this die a while ago as I have 2 Grandchildren in South Africa and 3 of my children lived there for up to 20 years. While I was working I went there to visit every 2 years so you can imagine the memories evoked by this beautiful card. Thank you so much for your continued inspiration.
Hugs.

Hi Sue. I love what you have done to create the background and I can clearly see how the wrinkles in the plastic wrap have pulled the mica up to form the veins. I must have a go at this one, thanks for sharing yet another technique to add to our crafty arsenal.

The scrunched up plastic wrap gives a fantastic texture to the pixie powdered background. And the pixie powder colors that you used are perfect for the African safari look. The giraffes look so good forefront to the pp background. Wonderful masculine card design for one or more men in my family. Always a plus in my book.
ReplyDeleteHello Sue and all
ReplyDeleteEverything about this card is fabulous ! The background, love the glad wrap feature, the giraffes and trees, the frame and the sentiment. I have yet to use my African sets and this is just the inspiration I needed - as soon as Christmas is sorted, just a couple of specials I overlooked to finish off. Christmas cards are my favourites to make but am now itching to use other sets and start on birthdays.
Hugs
