Hi bloggers! I have had quite a few requests to see this video so here it is! I will show you how to make your own background paper even though the original was done with a piece of decorative paper from a pad! I don't think you can tell the difference at all!
The finished dimensions are 7 1/2" x 7 1/2" in size. All for now, Sue x

Wow!! Fabulous! Thanks for the tutorial!
ReplyDeleteHi Sue. I really love the image of Santa on his sleigh for Christmas cards and although the background is not necessarily a Christmas one, the appearance of Santa flying across the sky screams Christmas to me.

Fun video but there is no way we can cut that many perfectly straight, perfectly equal, perfectly narrow strips in two colors without precision instruments. Even with a guillotine, there's no way to measure and cut the overhanging edge to a precise width, unless you were holding most of the card stock as overhang and feeding in little narrow strips measured against the lines in the guillotine. But how would you make sure you're holding the bulk of the paper perfectly perpendicular to the blade? The only way I can figure is to line up the paper with an edge perpendicular to the cutting edge, and cut a little wider than the desired width. Then use the increments on the cutter to line up the width you want and zip off the overhanging excess.
ReplyDeleteThat hurt my brain. Did you have some trick, like using weaving dies without stitched edges? Getting an intern to do it on a computer that sends designs to a cutting blade instead of an inkjet nozzle?
My big Carl cutter has a clamp that locks down as many as 10 or 12 thicknesses of card at the precise distance you want from the blade, then the circular blade zips along a rail. Still, there's wobble in the blade housing, and there's no way you can precisely measure off such tiny increments that close to the rail and clamp. So, I think you did it with Movie Magic, and that really is two sheets of gift wrap you're comparing! I know, we saw you do it so you couldn't have tricked us, but I really wish you had shown how to get those perfect strips. I'd rather see that kind of thing in a video than you peeling off the backing from multiple sections of mounting foam. If you've already prepared the mounting foam, go a step further and remove all the backings off camera, covering them with a single sheet of wax paper or something that will come off all the pieces with one pull.
Okay, iPad just hit me on the forehead
That happens when I fall asleep while typing.
Best, Donita
very elegant card! and i can't differ between the 2 backgrounds, hugs xx

Hi Sue,
ReplyDeleteGreat video to show us how to create a masterpiece of a card without spending a fortune. I shall make more use of my strips, you've just reminded me.
Hugs, Rose
Hi Sue, a timeless card and informative video, thank you. Love Santa and the reindeer and the glittered moon. You now have me thinking about using some of my many scraps to create backgrounds. I have a drawer full of mirri card pieces in many colours so I think I will have fun creating a variety to go with different styles of card - just hope I have enough coconut white card to go with them :-)

ReplyDeleteGreat idea Sue to use up those scraps, look stunning, a most beautiful simple card, but looks amazing...thank you..luv Ursula xx
ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful card Sue, a real classic x
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! Now why have I not thought of this technique to "make" my striped background paper? I know why - I'm not Sue Wilson! Your idea is swirling around my head to use on some of my Christmas cards. Making up this striped background will allow me to use some of those scrap pieces I have not had the heart to throw out. Thanks for the great video and the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteHello Sue and all
ReplyDeleteI saw this video in the last couple of days and just love this card- it is so clean and fresh looking and looks much more difficult than you make it in your demo. Loving Christmas more than usual this year

Hi Sue this is a stunning card I love it. I am just going to watch the video. Take care. Hugs Jackie
ReplyDeleteFabulous card. Love what you’ve done with Santa and the reindeer. X
ReplyDeleteOh, this recreating background involves a lot of work, too much work but it is good to know another way to use your scrap paper or, as you said, not to have to buy the whole pad of paper. Watching the video I asked myself same questions as Donita, how to make those strips:straight, same width, etc. I don't know if I have the right tools and so much patience to cut so many strips, but ... if I'll manage to cut half of them, same color, then I will glue them on a cardstock (plain or not), whatever color matches with my strips and I will get a kind of high (not too high indeed) and low background with half work in half time.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration.
Hugs from Toronto,
Carmen-Dorothy

Hello !
I'm writting an article for the winter wishes issue of the french magazine called "Passion cartes créatives".
The subject is "totally white cards"...
I wish to show your card (seen here : http://particraft.blogspot.com/2014/12/wednesday-weekly-card-giveaway.html) within this article.
Would you agree with that ?
If yes, could you please send me as soon as possible a high resolution photo of your creation ?
Of course, your name or pen name if you want will appear next to the image, and the address of your blog will be in the address book.
Thank you in advance for your quick answer, even if it is negative, so that I can get organized (I have to give my paper very soon).
Best Regards, Elise AMANN
