Faux Buckle Card

Hi bloggers!  You can easily get the look of a buckle style card, but without actually having to weave a piece in and out to get it to buckle.  This video shows you how to make something look as if it has used the buckle technique, but so much easier!

The finished dimensions are 6 1/4" x  8 3/4" in size.  All for now, Sue x

  33. Hi Sue,

What a beautiful card!...love that soft sage green and white colour scheme, like the alternative Wedgewood colours, and all the dies you've used too - unfortunately for some reason I can no longer access the videos, don't know why - so I don't know which dies you used and whether that cardstock comes in that colour or whether you inked it with a Distress Oxide, say Iced Spruce or some similar shade...?...where's our Sam when I need her detailed listing!...lol

  34. Have you adopted the British way of saying pastel? We say pasTELL. Anyway, what a lovely soft green. I'm surprised how big Ava is. I thought you had cut it twice to extend it, but that's just one cut! She's a big beauty! The appeal of buckle cards has always escaped me, so I would do this one without the wings making extra width.

At the stamp convention, we stayed two nights and played with out new stuff in the hotel room. We also brought "shoebox" cards for each other to make. As in, everything's supposed to be pre-cut, pre-scored and all fit in a shoebox. I brought lots of die cuts, mostly borders, labels and leaves, and my friend Pat kept marveling how pretty the die cuts were and saying I had the BEST dies. I wanted to say, I KNOW! Aren't they GREATt But I said thank you and accepted credit for my talent of buying Sue Wilson dies.

She also said she never thought of layering die cuts until she saw your blog. So your reach extends even to people who mostly receive your die sets as presents.

Say the word and I'll quit my job and go on the rubber stamp and scrapbooking circuit in the U.S. with Creative Expressions and Sue Wilson products. Maybe Carmen and I could be Beverly's assistants.

    Or after I get downsized.

Oh, I tried something tonight. The caught in crystal technique with a twist. I cut Chloe out four times, and laid them out under a clear craft mat, so they would all fit under a single piece of acetate. So the acetate went on top of the clear craft mat, with four Chloe's under that. I had cut several pastel colors and some white of all the tiniest flowers, like the ones that came all on one rectangle in other sets, and I arranged them in shape groups inside the oval of each Chloe, on top of the acetate. Then I covered the acetate with a U.S. product, some kind of dimensional glaze, being careful not to disturb the little flower bits. Then I dripped Distress Oxide reinkers where I wanted green or pink to show through the cutouts on the outside of Chloe and blopped the big open middle of each Chloe with what I hoped would be a pleasing riot of yellow, pink, orange and raspberry. It's drying overnight.

May you find something to enjoy, whatever your day brings.

    Best,
    Donita

This faux buckle card is so beautiful. Loving the Ava die and the lattice die. I adore this pastel green cardstock, lovely color. Great visual of the high and low of the stacked layers, something you do so well. It's those extra steps you do that set your card designs above most other designers.

Where to start? I don't know what I love more about this card the design or the colors? Maybe both equally. The beautiful Ava die looks so pretty in white against the soft green. Love this color scheme;very fresh looking. And the lattice die is not only beautiful but it will give elegance to any card. Thank you for the great video and for the inspiration.
