King Of The Grill

Good Sunday morning all!  I thought I would slip in another barbecue cards (in anticipation of the warmer weather, hopefully along here sometime soon!)  I started by cutting an aperture using the Double Stitched Hexagons out of black card.  I added a thin red frame around it from the same die set.  I used the Stitched Pegboard Frames and added a raised black frame around the entire background.  A white piece was added behind the aperture for my grill dies.  I cut the barbecue out of red card, adding the flames which were inked with Distress inks.  I hung a set if tongs off the edge, colouring them with a silver paint pen and black marker.  I cut three small hexagons and added slightly larger red or black hexagons behind them.  I used these to show off all the bits from the King of the Grill die set; spatula, forks, chicken legs, skewers, etc.   In the lower corner I added the sentiment cut in white with the grill plate slipped into the loops of the lettering.  White and black mats and layers were used to complete the very masculine Grill card.  The finished dimensions are 8 1/4" x  8 1/4" in size.  All for now, Sue x

  6. Hi Sue. Oh how I'm longing for warmer days so I can release the winter chains from my ankles and come out of hibernation lol. There is nothing better than the aroma of someone cooking on the bbq it really gets the hunger pangs going even if you didn't feel hungry lol. If only Mother's Day was celebrated during the warmer months !! Probably showing my ignorance here, but why March and why do we have our MD at different times to our friends from over seas's ? Must research that later lol. So to those celebrating this day with their mum's have a lovely day together, and those of us that can only think of our mum's I hope you have nothing but happy memories.
Thanks Sue for a great sample that would be useful to all that love summer evenings sharing bbq fun with friends and family, a die that is high on my list ready for the spring/summer time markets ☺
Sending love and hugs your way this Sunday xx
Oh, just noticed that we have no comment winners today, did I miss something on yesterday's post ?

  7. Hi Sue. Great card. If only it was BBQ weather, but spring is only round the corner - so maybe soon.

Steph, Mothering Sunday - strictly a religious festival is always on the fourth Sunday of Lent and a day when people visited their 'Mother' church. Now it has become a day to celebrate mothers and for children to give gifts to their mothers. I am not a font of knowledge but I only learnt this myself in recent days from a Facebook group.

  10. You are so clever to use strong colors of red, black and white, and to evoke patio paving stones with the Hexagons. And then the mini Hexagons to maintain the theme, in different colors for variety. More than clever. Inspired!

Our stamping group got together on Saturday, and I brought the new Phill Martin gilding polish colors. They were a big hit. We used Julia's idea of cutting a Linear Elegance Edger on either side of the Infinity Striplet, then we colored three strips to show through from behind them. We had a thin white stitched frame and a thicker one that we colored with the gilding polishes. Although the colors don't blend, you can fleck bits of a second color among bits of a first color and the eye will mix them. Later we used the polishes to color backings for other dies. Lots of oohs and ahhs. One stamper started coloring her nails with the gilding polishes, and another wanted to try coloring her white shoes.

I don't know about you guys, but we lose an hour of sleep Saturday night into Sunday morning.

Best to all. Enjoy your paper BBQ until the real ones come along!

    Best,
    Donita

  20. Hi Sue,

Love all the variations on a theme with this die set, always looks like you had fun making up all the different elements to compose the picture...

Ann Toppcards - ordinary inks won't work on mirror card, it has to be the alcoholic variety - if you can't justify buying some of the Tim Holtz range then try alco pens if you have those...ProMarkers, Spectrum Noir or the Nuvos, just dab your selection of colours and soften the edges with the blender pen...hth

Happy mother's day. It appears that in S.A. it is celebrated twice due to the fact that there are so many Europeans living here so yesterday saw lots of people buying flowers, but not so many cards in the shops. However, Father's Day is celebrated on the same day. Hugs xx Pauline in S.A.

This version is so cute and I love the use of the hexagons....always loving the different shapes. I have seen the red Weber grills although the black are more common. I did get a hold of glossy black paper for the son's card.

  59. Hello Sue and all
One of the go to die sets, love what you have done with it on this card, the colours are fabulous and again, hexagons or octagons, still have not decided but still saving madly. I have made some cards with this set and they have all been wowed ! Still barbeque weather here but we are looking at the clocks going back over Easter - always very sad about that.
After the winter you have had, you must be really looking forward to the warmer months and deserve them too.
Hope everyone had a good weekend, plenty of relaxing and crafting (same thing really isn't it)
    Hugs
