Discover Art

Good Sunday morning all!  I have a sort of pretty artsy card to share today.  I know it won't appeal to everyone, but it is really very pretty in person.  I started by laying down some colour using Distress Oxides.  I picked Spiced Marmalade, Wilted Violet and Picked Raspberry and covered a piece of coconut white card.  Next I cut all of the Inspirational Words and laid them randomly around the card.  I spritzed the card with water so it lightened the background and then removed the words, but the colour stayed intense but it gives them a kind of ghost effect in the background.   I used some Black soot ink around the edges to frame it, then matted it with black.  I cut one of the Industrial Chic Swirls out of white card and glued it to the background.  Next I cut two of the smaller tag from the I.C. Frames and Tag set and cut a small bit off of the end on both of them, then rejoined it to makes a longer tag.  I cut the word Discover in black and glued it to the tag.  I cut the word Art twice, once out of white and one out of black, then shadowed it and mounted it with foam above the swirl.  The card was completed with a white on white mat layer.  The finished dimensions are 6 3/4" x  8 1/4" in size.

The winners of this week's Comment Game are:

Pat S Whitney!!!
Lyn Richardson!!!
Tupns!!!

Congratulations all!  Please email me at americansue1@gmail.com to confirm your address and claim your prize.  All for now, Sue x

  1. Morning Sue, although it's something I wouldn't make there us something I really like about today's sample, it also inspires us to use many more mixed media's like various inks and Pixies. I'm an 'old fashioned' crafter in many respects although after watching yesterday's video I decided to try my first shaker card, 4 out of 10 for attempting but could have done better, but acceptable enough to add to my Mday market basket ☺ one thing I keep meaning to mention, I love how you 'tut' occasionally when filming your tutorial it makes me smile as the majority of my crafting time is full of 'tut's' lol, so I'll end there and send you love and hugs in place of 'tut's' and hope you enjoy your day xxx

  2. Oh sue, I know it's out of the ordinary but I actually do like this. The background is amazing and making your own background with different mediums is something I want to do but just not brave enough yet lol. I've got all these gorgeous Spitzer inks but not used yet , had them a while too. Youve inspired me to have a go , must be fun to do too and how lovely when the result is just as amazing as yours. It's gorgeous, love the die cuts too and how you incorporated the words into your background. Just gorgeous hun xx

  8. Good Morning Sue and all.
Amazing card this morning . I love to seeing your creations like this one, such a different style than what we are used to from you. The style works so well with the design of the dies.
    Congratulations to winners.

  9. Those ghost words are so interesting, and much easier to do than by stamping a faux watermark. This is more like a dry water mark.

I'm a big fan of the gear flowers. Your sprocket swirl.

    Hooray for the winners!

    Best possible Sunday to all.

  23. Hi Sue,

Love this colourful background, it's very striking and thank you for telling us how you did the words - I thought you must have cut them and used them as stamps but laying them down and then spritzing over them with water gives a more subtle effect and very artsy...very clever!

Congratulations to the Comment Game winners...

  56. Love the background and I love the diecuts too - I'm a bit of a wanna-be calligrapher so 'words' always appeal to me. Liking the chic swirls too though I think maybe it would have been a little more harmonious if the white was toned-down just a little bit? A nice change from the flowery/girly norm ;)

Bit of industrial chic to get the old brain cogs turning. It is definitely not an 'obviously Sue' style card as it is very removed from what we have come to expect. I love it x
They say a change is as good as a rest and this change and going off in a slightly different direction gets my vote. Love the background x
Had lovely time surprising mum and sister last weekend - the highlight was me hiding in the boot of my dads car for shock value - this had the desired affect - frightened the life out of my sister. Short but lovely visit but a lot of travelling so it did wipe me out x
Nice to be back - spoke to Laine last night and Maureen this afternoon - double whammy. Laine moaned as I haven't sent her card yet - no patience! Maureen is busy redecorating - one roll of wallpaper cost more than my weeks shopping!! You can take the girl out of Newcastle but ...... well, say no more! Lol x
