Winter Wonderland

Good Sunday morning all!  I have a lovely forest scene card done in sepia tones for you today.  I started by cutting the Birch Tree Background out of milk card.  I cut it twice by moving the die along to expand the scene.  I used Vintage Photo distress ink on a smoothie to edge all the trees.  I embossed another piece of milk card with the Falling Snow folder and attached the birch trees to it.  I cut a multi layered frame out of milk card using the Double Pierced Rectangles set A and B.  I added foam to raise it and attached it over the forest scene.  Next I stamped the fox, squirrel, hedgehog and log in Coffee Archival ink and used the matching dies to cut them out.  I inserted them into the scene with foam and glue.  I also added some Iced Snow to the bottom of the forest area for a bit of sparkle.  I cut the Winter Wonderland sentiment in silver card and glued it to the top and bottom edges of the frame.  I used milk and silver card to mat and layer to complete the card.  The finished dimensions are 7 1/2" x  8 1/2" in size.

  1. Love the card Sue. The woodland scene is quite lovely.
    Congratulations to comment game winners.
NannaTina, was so hapoy to see your post. I hope you were able to enjoy your day with your family and remember happier times with Mick. Your grandchildren will keep you busy but it would be so nice to see you back again.
Elaine, I hope Andrew was well enough to have his scan. When will he get the results. You are wise to stay indoors when the snow is down. Because I have to move furniture for my tree to go in the bay window Kelly said I need a smaller tree, a bigger house or get rid of some furniture. What a choice.
Rosemary, so glad to see you too, hope you are feeling better. Depression is a terrible illness, please don't isolate yourself.
Yvonne, you should have been tucked up in bed at that time,, your rest is important. Did you get to speak to Laine, how is she.
Donita, I hope you get your heating sorted, don't want you freezing in all the snow. We had a really bright sunny day yesterday but if you opened the door the icy cold cut you in half, so I stayed in.
June, ,Colin seems to have had a lovely family time, sounds lovely. Grandchildren are so sweet.
Myra, hope you have stopped blushing. George must be on the mend now. Hope Maureen enjoyed the film with her granddaughters.
Warming hugs for all, take care in the bad weather, special thoughts of all poorly and missing friends.
One last thing folks, yesterday's blog numbers were the lowest I have ever seen. I know this is a very busy time but please take a few minutes with a cuppa to leave a message. It would mean so much to a very Soecial lady who gives us so much in return.

  4. Oh Sue, there's not a great deal to say about today's sample. It's just stunning in a simple way, the way you've used the colour just highlights every die/stamp beautifully. My body is awake but the descriptive side of my brain US still sluggish (doesn't help having Phill in the background ) lol all I can say is that when the sample loaded my first reaction was "WOW" does that help lol.
Well done girlies especially Stella and Hetty and TC enjoy your gift and look forward to seeing your makes on Paul's fb group ☺
Sending warm winter love and hugs your way Sue wrap up if walking in winter wonderland today 😉 xxx

    Congratulations to all the winners.

Pam I reiterate all you have said, especially about the blog numbers, Sue works so hard and never forgets a day on the blog, she is amazing and to continue to support her on the blog is our way of saying thank you, we also get to see some amazing inspirations, videos, double days, and giveaways.

Lots to do today with the run up to Christmas, I expect everyone else has too. If you are having bad weather, as most of the country is, even if it is just extremely cold, then please take care.

Stay safe, healthy and happy, hugs, June Smith xxx

  14. Morning Sue, from a very wet soggy Somerset

I adore your woodland scene, such a wonderful card, and I think the title is very apt.

We are off to Wookey Hole Winter Wonderland with little Milly-May today, she really gets Christmas this year and it will be her very first visit to Wookey. They put on an extra special show for the little ones and it is a joy to see their faces light up with wonder from it all. We have taken all the grandchildren as they have appeared, and not one of them have been disappointed with Wookey Hole.

Jamie has just come home from work, sent home early, with the news that the snow is about 4-6 ins deep in Swindon. The gritters are out on the motorways so if anyone is driving today take special care.

Gentle comfort blanket hugs and healing prayers to all in pain, discomfort or loss. May your day become kinder to you.

    Love 7 hugs

  16. Dear Sue and Loyal Crew,

Thank you for the idea of edging the trees with Vintage Photo. Reminds me of hiking in New Hampshire. You're not supposed to peel the birch off trees, but sometimes you find pieces that rolled off naturally. Like a cross between wood and paper. If you had your trail mix out, Gray Jays would perch on a branch near your head, actually beg, land on your hand, ignore the peanuts and oatmeal and go straight for the cashews.

I love your little woodland animals. Maybe someday.

Before I forget, congratulations to Anita and the lucky comment game winners! And hey, you men in the group, how about dropping a comment too! You guys matter, and your opinion would be welcome when we're opining about what would appeal to men.

Stephanie Pawprintx4, Rhode Islanders thought they invented the bread and milk thing. I'm surprised it would be a thing as far south as South Carolina.

NannaTina, you have survived a whole year, when I bet for a while you weren't sure you could make it through the next five minutes. That's an accomplishment worth noting. My wish for you is to remember without ache. That you find yourself smiling. That colors regain their color and flavor returns to food and you can feel good simply because of the way the sky looks. Same for you Rosemary. And Pam. And whoever needs relief from sadness this time of year. Thanks for the idea. I promise myself a walk tomorrow. Even if the sky is gray, the tracery of the bare branches is beautiful against it. Mind your step, though, in the snow.

To correct the record, I do have heat. The guy replaced the starter and took pictures with his phone of the model number so they could order the firebox. He could have shut me down, but he took pity and made it so I wouldn't have to take my cat and my plumbing to a motel. Heat is a wonderful thing. So is water and electricity. And plumbing! Not the least of which is drains. If you've ever bathed or done dishes in the woods, you'd see what I mean.

Here is a crafting tip. If you ever see those stupid foam shapes on sale, especially the self-stick ones, scoop them up! They're great little substitutes for foam tape. Or pop dots. Easily cut to whatever size. Just use glue or double stick tape on the other side.

Keep your embossing powder dry and your stamps out of the sun.

    Love,
    Donita

Fabulous card using my favourite sets of Christmas dies (can also be used throughout the year!). I love today's card, in my opinion the stamps that coordinate with the dies are definately a must have. Although they work well without the dies it makes each animal stand out.

  20. Good Morning Sue

It is a snowy morning down here in South Kent apart from one day for a couple of hours last year it is the first significant snow fall in about 4 years and we are all off to a pantomime this afternoon so very fitting.

I love your card today. I have bought this stamp and the Forest animal stamps and dies but haven't used them yet so this will be a push for me. I really like the use of the Vintage Photos and as I have everything needed I have no excuse this next week not to try it.

Congratulations to the Comment Game winners.

  21. A great card showing the versatility of your dies again Sue. When I looked at this card I didn't think Christmas at all, so it would be good for birthdays too. Love the little animals. Sorry I didn't comment yesterday & another day during the week, but both days I was out early & by the time I came home (very late) was just too exhausted to do anything! Sorry!

  23. Hi Sue,
Fabulous card this or I got, I really like it. Love the way you've edged the tress and it certainly gives the card a vintage look. Those animals are so cute.
Elaine, I hope Andrew was well enough to have his scan - sending hugs x you also did the right thing not going out in the snow if you didn't have to. It is so easy to fall and get injured - I'm proof of that one!!
Donita I'm pleased that you have got heat and didn't have to de-camp to a motel! Hope things get sorted for you quickly.
Diane - workshop was really good although we did let Linda go early so she could get home safely xx

  54. Hi Sue,
I love that card, especially as it's done in sepia tones and looks like nothing that we have NOW! I hate snow, especially in urban areas. Not so bad out in the country suitably attired with boots on etc, but I am out of my tobogganing phase now (70). My cat hates it, too but has been out now for over an hour and I'm getting a bit worried! Looking at the sky we're going to get another load of snow very, very soon!
That die is great, so very versatile - come spring I'm going to make one with a spring background (probably my pixies golden mint and with the slightest hint of blue)..... Can't wait for it!
    Hugs, Rose

  60. Great card Sue. We get the odd Fox walking down our drive and leaving it's calling card on the back lawn; the grey squirrel devours all of the food which we leave out for the little birds and the hedgehog must be hibernating somewhere as we haven't seen him for ages. So, I much prefer to see them on your cards. Your woodland scenes are fabulous.
Snow is gently falling now, but I can't agree with Rose about snow in the country being better than in urban areas as our roads are usually the last to be cleared. Still, it's a good excuse for staying in and crafting.

  85. Good evening Sue,

I think this card is really nice, very versatile too.

I like trees, and like how you have used "sepia"tones.

We have quite a lot of snow, so if this is the weather all week, I will be indoors all the time.

    Love n hugs to everyone

  88. Hello Sue and all

Everything about todays card is just beautiful Sue, I am so glad that I bought these die sets but have made very little with them so far because of being so far behind with my cards. They are to be the first dies out when I make some cards each month next year (Definitely my main New Years resolution!) and I can enjoy making Christmas cards at a relaxed pace, oh the luxury :-)
Echoing all Pam has said today, so well summed up again, thoughts and hugs to Tracy, welcome back to our missing friends and congratulations to the comment game winners,
    hugs
    Muriel x

  91. Charming card with a vintage feel and those adorable woodland animals.
I had written a long post and of course the Google Grinch lost it so as it is really late and I am tired, will call it a night and catch up tomorrow.

Good Monday morning Sue. I do wish I got your posts on the same day as most of your followers on the blog. Mine never come through until the day after.
I love the card today, it reminds me of the 24 years I spent in Canada with all the little creatures sharing my space. I had a favourite squirrel that I name Esquire. Happy memories for me.
Congratulations to the winners and healing wishes to the poorly folks.
