Wednesday Weekly Card giveaway

Hi crafters!  Today's card giveaway is a very pretty  milk card and enchanted gold gilded channel card.  You may have to look at all the pics to get a sense of the gold polish as it is very subtle.  I started with the background which uses a piece of milk card that has been cut into two parts (one large and one small).  I embossed both of the pieces with the Twisted Holly embossing folder for texture.  I used the Enchanted gold gilding polish over it to add some subtle highlights then added mounting foam to the back to raise it.  I attached it to another piece of milk card and left about an inch gap between them.  I cut the Holly Swirl twice out of gold mirror card.  I attached one across the gap, then added just the swirl from the second one to cover the entire length of the gap.  For the focal element, I cut the Noelle Frame in milk card and backed it with vellum.  I cut the inner decorative die in milk and backed it in vellum as well and layered it on top.  I stamped and gold embossed the sentiment then cut it out with the centre die from the set.  I rubbed a little bit of gilding polish around the edge and added it to the middle of the stacked die cuts.  I added cream pearl corners to the top and some cream flatback pearls to the focal element.  Milk card and gold mirror card were used to complete the card.  The finished dimensions are 7" x  8 1/2" in size.  Leave a comment to be entered into the drawing to win this one.  The winner will be announced on Saturday's blog post.  All for now, Sue x

  1. Wonderful Wednesday Wow of a card. , whoever is the lucky winner will be delighted. Quite stunning.
Heather hope you had a lovely birthday, belated birthday wishes to you.
Yvonne, lovely to see you back. Hope you start to recover soon with the care of your lovely friend. Please take it easy.
Donita, like Maureen I too laughed at the posting of unwanted fruit cakes backwards and forwards across theStates. Once when I visited my brother in Newfields NH, my SIL asked me to make one for the local school raffle. I also made a sample cake for tasters. It went down a storm and sold for 30 dollars. I was really chuffed.
Carmen, you sound like a real party girl, you will keep things happy and flowing.
June and Yorkie Girl, my memories are of my mum making Christmas cakes, she always made them for the family too.
Little lamb, haven't decided about the canvas yet, it may be a present, it was the first one I have made, loved making it. 2nd one started already.
Another cold morning, keep warm and well everyone. Heated hugs to all, especially our poorly and missing friends.

There seems very little to add compliment wise apart from just how beautiful it is, and thank you for not only sharing this with us but giving one lucky honoured virtual 'friend' the chance to smile the biggest ever smile when they receive it. You really are as special as the samples you put together.
Sending warm winter hugs your way xxx

  9. Hello Sue and all
Wow, lucky, lucky winner today Sue, that is a very beautiful card. I have been using gilding wax on my embossed backgrounds and just love the look, so rich !
I have all the needs to make this one, just a change of EF required, when I get to my special Christmas cards, still going on the smaller postage ones at the moment but have made about a dozen, big reminder not to leave it until the last minute again next year lol !

  43. Hi Sue,
Gorgeous card for us today and whoever the lucky winner is, I'm sure they will treasure it. The enchanted gold polish is beautiful - not brash like some golds, just very subtle. I love the holly swirls too. I have everything for this card so might just give it a go as I have a couple of " special" cards to make yet.
Well, today is the day I go to see the consultant about my knee again and having lost the weight he told me to lose if he lives up to his promise, he should do the operation asap! So it's fingers crossed for me.
Donita, I did chuckle at the thought of all of those uneaten cakes criss- crossing the USA! I'm not a big lover of fruit cake ( I think I ate too much of it when I was little!) but I know plenty of people who love it.
Hope everyone is managing to stay warm during this cold snap.
Sending love and hugs to all, Alison xxxx

  67. Hi Sue,

Utterly gorgeous!...love how you've bridged the gap with the Holly Swirl and the Noelle dies really set off the sentiment and that one can be used all year round as it's not overtly Christmassy...keeping my fingers crossed till Saturday...lol

Donita - no-one in their right mind would want to post a traditional Brit Christmas cake - what with all the soaked fruit and the lacing with alcohol they're so dense and heavy that the postage charges would be astronomical!!

Ladies - if anyone else is stuck for ideas making their Christmas cards here's a suggestion that might help - I found a pack of 10 ready-made 4" square envelopes while clearing out my craftroom stash (an ongoing task) and thought I must use them up as I've had them years, so I scored and cut some cardstock to fit, 3 per sheet of A4 card folded lengthways and cut at 99mms each - and because the cards are so small and dinky you are limited as to the amount of stuff you can throw on them which has turned out to be surprisingly liberating - one meduim-sized poinsettia, some greenery and a sentiment and bingo! one card done in minutes...I'm now looking at my die stash for other small elements that will fit tiny cards but having lots of fun making them up - of course the nearest and dearest will still get their large cards, but for everyone else this size is perfect and more environmentally friendly too...hth

  68. Hi Sue,
A beautiful card, I love white and gold and the Noelle frame. So very elegant.

And I'm all with Izzy, thank you for the tip about small cards, I do slightly bigger cards, by cutting A4 in half and then fold in half - don't know what this is called , perhaps A6?

But will try the absolute dinkies, too.

But I also love making the bigger cards because that is where everything comes together and makes it even more beautiful. This card being the case in point.
    Hugs, Rose

  81. What a beautiful card this morning. Very richly elegant. Good luck to everyone.
I always wonder if Royal Mail is less expensive than ours in the US. I made a 7 inch square card for my BIL's birthday and mailed it at the post office yesterday and it was $3.00. The card was only an ounce however it was thicker, not flat. I have a number of special Christmas cards that will cost like wise (probably heavier even) so I have to make a lot of A2 or my favorite 5x7 when I am sending out 35-40 Christmas cards. I adore these bigger cards though and have been making the special ones in the "Wilson" style with easel stands attached. I love them!
Today, Julia is on Hochanda. Love to see her demonstrations.
Have a wonderful Wednesday to all,

  89. Hi Sue, sorry I was AWOL yesterday but Google is not playing nicely and will not let me post on either my laptop or tablet, I have had to borrow hubby's PC until we can work out what is wrong and it is annoying me intensely. I loved yesterday's shadow box with the bright primary colours you used and today's gorgeous card is a complete contrast being very elegant and understated. I find gilding wax always adds something to a project without being too 'in your face'.

Myra - is it just us? Have we done something to upset Google? If you find a solution please let me know!
Thinking of all poorly and missing friends, hope you all feel better soon.
I am going to post as anonymous in case I upset Google on here as well lol

Pam. My mum did not make Christmas cake but as we are from Scotland she made a cracking dumpling ohh how I miss those she used to make them for birthdays too and as I am one of five kids we got loads.
For those that think I have lost it a dumpling is a fruit 🍇 cake made with suit and is steamed with lots of mixed spice I’m sure all our Scottish friends know what I’m talking about I have my mums recipee but have never tried o make it myself here are a lot of different family variations
Well I’m waffling but it was something that just came into my thoughts.

Carmen, how about 3 fractures at once, right elbow, left wrist and left little finger. I always say if you are going to do a job, do a good one ha ha. Make room for the cake, I'll forward half on to you when it arrives!
June S, I've never known anyone like you who can go to so many craft clubs, there are none around here. Hope Diabetic School goes well.
Elaine, I hope Trixi soon starts behaving!
Alimecca, hope you got good news from the Consultant.
Izzy thanks for your great tips on small cards.
Myra dear, Google is not your only problem - and get those crumbs swept up ha ha.
Pawprintx4 our post used to be quite reasonable, but now they go by size first, and then weight. It can be quite costly sometimes.
Helen, a duvet day sounds good and I hope it helps.
Myra from Florida, glad to read that Emily is doing well. As you say God is good.
Yorkie girl, mam used to make Dumpling as well, probably because of Scottish relations.
    Tracy, sending love and hugs.
Laine and PP, hope you are both o.k. Missing you.
    love to all

  111. Hi Sue and all

Firstly I would like to say what a beautiful card for Christmas. I do have a pot of gilding wax, but never used it yet. When I saw this card Sue, I cannot wait till I am free with this
plaster, so that I can have a play!

Also I would like to say thank you to Pam and Donita Naylor for your warm words welcoming me back to the blog.

    Love and hugs to everyone

  114. Hi Sue. WOW !!! What a gorgeous Christmas card today !!! Your card looks really classy and elegant Sue. You have created a lovely background with the Twisted Holly EF and the enchanted gold gilding wax. It has such a beautiful shine / Sheen to it. Your Holly Swirl die looks fab die cut in gold mirri card to. I have loved your Noelle Frame dies ever since I first saw them. I think their design is very pretty and versatile enough to use all year round. I especially love the Gold Embossed sentiment in the centre die. It just adds to the overall Elegance of your card. Thanks for sharing your gorgeous card today. Lots of love to you Sue from Tres x x x

Whoever wins it will love it. Pam I am on my second Steampunk picture but other things keep, getting in the way. Hav e a birthday card to make for my son so thinking of making a steampunk one. Sent one to my cousins son for his birthday and he thought it was brilliant. First one I had done so wasn't too sure. Enjoy making your second canvas. Elaine hope you get the laptop sorted soon. Echoing all Pam's comments today.

  123. Hi Sue,
After so many colorful Christmas cards and excitement about Christmas, this card is like a majestic princess, elegant and beautiful, a classic Sue card, that I'll be honored to receive it.
Good luck all, but I hope to be the lucky one:)

Pam - I would love to have one of your canvas ... If you'll promise to make one for me, prepare yourself to make for all Wilsonettes :)
Maureen- 3 fractures once is better than 2 -ha ha. You won! I start fasting from this very second to make room for the cake. Thank you for helping me to lose some weight:)
Stephanie K & Maureen - Ladies, if we talk about who pays more to send a card, probably I am a winner.I payed for a card 4"x 5 1/2", not more than 30g,$2.85 for standard shipping, with confirmation would cost $20 Canadian dollars. If is a bigger size and weights more than 30g you'll pay $4 and up. When you send only one card is not a big deal, but when we send to both sides of our family and friends and other relatives we pay a little fortunate. My problem is that not everybody receive their cards, some are getting "lost" on their way.

    Hugs to you all,
Still a newbie to Craft / not longer the newest, or the only across the pond Wilsonette
