Under The Weather

Hello there my crafty friends!  I thought I would show some of the latest release dies today.  I have a very quick and easy card for you.  I started by cutting the Linear Leaf Background die twice, once out of coconut white card and once out of gold mirror card.  I offset the gold behind the white for a bit of a blingey shadow.  I backed it with another piece of white card, background base finished (see, it is simple!)  Next I cut the sentiment from the Rain or Shine die set twice, once out of gold mirror card and the other out of gold pearl card.  I offset the mirror card behind then glued it into place in the top of the background.  I decided to add a small accent using the Sycamore Branches,  I cut each of them out of white card.  I inked the leaves with Spiced Marmalade and Fired Brick Distress Oxides and the branch portion with Vintage Photo.  I flicked gold paint pen on them and then used a bit of Cosmic Lacquer on my finger and rubbed it on to them for a shine.  I allowed them to dry then glued them into place across the bottom of the card.  White and gold mirror card mats and layers were used to complete the card.  The finished dimensions are 5 1/2" x  7" in size.  All for now, Sue x

  1. Gorgeous card Sue. What a fab get well card.
Julia really did you proud on Hochanda last night. Her demos were stunning and her hints tips and explanations are always so helpful. Not sure if they realised when they paired Julia and Leonie together they have too much fun and giggles together. Pleasure to watch.
Yorkiegirl, your mams dumpling sounds like our Christmad pudding. My Nana used to make cloutie dumpling filled with steak and gravy, it was grandads favourite and we all got to have a slice too. Best I ever tasted. For those who don't know, cloutie was the cloth that the pudding was wrapped in whilst it was being boiled. Oh the good old days when food was real food.
Sharon, I wish you a wonderful restful time in Cyprus, hope the weather is good for you. I also hooe you can keep in touch to let us know how you are doing. Enjoy yourself.
Jess, congratulations on your granddaughters graduation, a day to be proud of. Glad you are back.
Myra in Florida, great news about Emily, so happy to hear she is leading a normal life, you must be so proud. God is great.
Carmen, those are pretty hefty postal charges, ours are bad enough.
Alimecca hope you got good news from your Consiltant.
Helen wrap up warm and rest, you don't sound as if you are for anything else.
I'm on leave today and tomorrow, just need a break, doing same next week. Not sure what I'm doing yet, will play it by ear.
Hugs to all, , plenty to go round. Sending Soecial wishes for all poorly and missing friends, especially Tracey.

  4. Morning Sue and all Wilsonettes, a gorgeous card today, I am sure I saw a sneak of this yesterday on fb, love the autumn leaves.

Pam I reiterate all you have said above, enjoy your 2 leave days, chill out and just go with the flow, enjoy whatever you end up doing.

Oh these various dumplings sound amazing, I can just imagine the taste of them with all that fruit ( or the meat ones) you can almost smell them cooking, making my mouth water.

Maureen, I run a weekly craft group myself, just 14 of us, I have hired a hall in a local church and we meet from 9-12 every Wednesday morning, been doing this for a number of years now. We all pay £3.50 per session, which pays for the room hire, a luxury cream afternoon tea twice a year, our Christmas lunch and also we have a small payout with what is left over. This year we all contributed and purchased a Gemini to use too, it is a good way of meeting like minded people and every week we learn something from each other.

I am off now to watch a repeat of Julia's show on Hochanda last night and also John Lockwoods new launch today. Have a great day everyone whatever you are doing.

Stay safe, healthy and happy, hugs, June Smith xxx

  10. Another Brrr start to the day but a warm autumnal feel to this gorgeous new sample and this is made up with parts of my birthday/festive wish list, oh and what's really great is that I've just dropped some almighty humongous hints to my keeper whilst he was getting snuggled up warm in his thermal dog walking coat etc as Julia was going through your new die bundles - yes, what a plan lol, and to avoid those hints and reminders, he smiled, looked down to tie his laces and came back with " you can only keep bugging me if Sue demo's them" lol so come on Sue get ya skates on HOCHANDA and I need you 😉 he's more of a tease than you at times ! But I'm loving how Julia is presenting your beautiful new creations, and Beverly you do a fantastic job your samples are just stunning dear fb buddie ☺
Having to record the majority of the shows today as a horrible road trip to Leeds and far too cold to shop at Samuel Taylor's that's like being in heaven surrounded by everything SW and CE.
So I'll say good morning, send love and hugs and take poor Julia off pause, and enjoy the rest of her show from last night ☺ xxx

Thank you for giving us the idea of using gold mirror card as the shadow. And for telling us the colors you used to achieve the fall look in the sycamore leaves.

In the U.S., postage for a square card is higher than for a rectangular card. Don't know why.

Nice to see you here, Rosemary. Crewe Trish was just asking about you.

Well I had my appt with the consultant and went in expecting to have a bit of a battle. However, his opening remarks were " well I can see that you've kept your end of the bargain so now it's my turn" ( or words to that effect. I was very surprised! The outcome is that he will do it in February ( or earlier if there's a cancellation) as that's the earliest he can fit me in. Listening to him I was a bit concerned about the new knee as it will give me less mobility than the one I dislocated as it will be hinged, but as I only have one ligament left, there is no alternative as ligament reconstruction is not viable in your 60s apparently. At least I won't have to wear a brace all of the time once it's done and I now know what I am working towards. Thank you for your well wishes, I really appreciate them.
Sending love and hugs to everyone and hoping that the weather where you are is not as bad as it is here. Love Alison xxxx

Love the dies used on this and saw them today with Julia.
Pam enjoy your "short" week. I've been crafting today as the weather has been so bad I was scared to go out in case I fell. Have you done any altered art projects? I enjoy those as well as mixed media. Mam used to make those dumplings filled with steak and gravy - clagged
to the sides of your stomach as dad would say ha ha.
June, clever you running your own craft group. I admire that. I don't know any other crafters in the area other than a friend who works full time. Did your diabetic school teach you anything?
Ooh Steph, John next Door mentioned you in his show today. You and the market are famous!!
O.k. Carmen, I give up, you win on the postage costs ha ha.
Alimecca Alison, that's great news that you are getting your knee done. I know it's not the full job which you wanted but if it means you won't have the pain or to wear your knee brace all the time, well that's a bonus. So pleased for you.
Myra is having problems with her internet and keeps trying to post, but can't manage it - why am I smiling as I type this ha ha.

  85. Hello Sue,
What a stunning card, I love that linear leaf background, I saw Julia demonstrate it today on Hochanda and now I know I need it. The oxides really give a lovely look to your leaves. She was full of praise for you and quite rightly so. If I was under the weather this card would definitely cheer me up. Sorry I've been missing for a couple of days, been a bit full on.
Steph, talking of Hochanda, I also noticed John gave you a mention for telling him your idea of putting a sentiment on cards as and when your customers on your monthly market needed them. I love Samuel Taylor's too, always visit when I'm home to stock up.
Pam your cloutie Pudding sounds divine, enjoy your couple of days rest.
Donita, the postage rules in Germany are ridiculous, there's a minimum and maximum length and width, and the length has to be at least 1.7x the width. Square cards cost double! I've got to be so careful, when posting Christmas cards to the uk.
Alison glad you didn't have to face a battle with your consultant, good luck for February.
    Love and hugs for all

  88. Hi Sue. I love your gorgeous card today !!! Your new Linear Leaves Background Die just looks fab !!! I have been watching Julia on Hochanda all day and I think she has done a wicked job of showcasing this stunning die, and all the fabulous techniques you can can do with it !!! This is one of the top dies on my Christmas wish list along with your amazing Sunflower Bouquet die set and some others to. I love that you have shadowed the White card with the gold mirri card. It really makes it "pop". This is a great sentiment from your under the weather die set. ( sorry but I can't remember their exact name.) Another top die set on my list is the beautiful sycamore leaves dies to. I think they look so beautiful used with inks, pixie powders or gilding flakes. You have given them a beautiful effect with the splats of gold pen. I really must try this one. Thanks for sharing this gorgeous card today. Julia showed some absoulutely stunning card samples today on her shows. Some fab demo's to.

  97. This is a great card. I agree with Anne, the linear leaves need to be seen in action as it wasn't on my wish list but is now.
Donita is right, square cards cost more to mail and also thick cards, larger cards, etc. It gets crazy figuring it all. I am going to put some of my cards in padded parcel envelopes because I think they would be safer and no more postage.
Julia hit it out of the park yesterday. Now I want everything she demoed! My poor husband as my Christmas list is growing.
Myra, Google can be devilish. Glad you could say "hi".
June, your group sounds fantastic. Right now I am in a group that can meet in an independent store in a nearby town. We are always in fear that it will close (has cut the days opened already) and we will need to work out something like you have. Great idea.
