A Very Special Day

Hi bloggers!  Here is a card that I demoed during my last Hochanda shows.  I started by cutting the Classic Adorned Hexagons out of cobalt blue card.  I used one of the larger decorative dies and the two cutting edges with it to create a frame and I did two of them.  I backed both of them with vellum for a see through effect.  I offset the two frames and glued them together and set them aside until the end.  Next I used the smaller dies in the set and cut a decorative backdrop out of coconut white card.  I backed it with cobalt blue to show through.  Next I used the Stitched Pegboard Frames and made a multi layered frame out of coconut white card and attached it over the backdrop.  The frames cut earlier then had a platform to attach to so I glued them to sit across the edge of the frame.  For the focal element, I cut the Victoria die twice out of vellum.  I crisscrossed them in the centre and attached them with mounting foam.  I stamped my sentiment and cut it out with the centre of the Classic Adorned Hexagon and added a thin cobalt mat cut from the Double Stitched Hexagon set and attached it in the centre of the card.  The card was completed using coconut white card and cobalt blue mats and layers.  The finished dimensions are 8 1/4" x  8 1/4" in size.  All for now, Sue x

Elaine, I'm sorry to hear that Andrew is not well, I hope he is feeling better soon. Please pass on my best wishes and hugs to him.
Hiw is your Gemini doing. It was mentioned on a Gemini show when I got mine that you had to turn the plates regularly as the internal pressure on the machine was very strong, just to stop them warping.
Laine, happy to hear you are feeling better and that Darcey seems to be getting back to her old self. Regarding the sandwich, it is funny what you will eat as a child, that crushed Frys Cream sandwich was delicious, although I'm not sure I would eat it now, maybe because my cousin was my favourite elder cousin. She could do no wrong in my eyes.
Maureen, hope the kitchen is going well. Your son in law is a gem, saves you a fortune.
There has been so much laughter and funny gems on the blog this week, as well as caring comments, it is such a lovely place to be, a lovely bunch of Wilsonettes.
Sam, glad you were back yesterday, I was worried. Internet problems, no fun at all.
Help yourselves from my basket of hugs and good wishes, plenty to go round. Thoughts as always of poorly and missing friends, I miss you all.

    Morning Sue,

There’s something about the hexagon designs that I feel really drawn to. I bought the three sets in your last release and love them so much.
I really like the way you have layered and offset the two larger ones in blue.

Have a good day one and all,

  25. Morning Sue. Like many more that comment (and those that for whatever reasons dont) I remembered with a smile watching you demonstrate this collection of gorgeous dies, finishing off with this lovely sample. However, in a lighter colour or even one of the white Foundation cards backed with a delicate piece of Pixied card behind would show the intricate patterns you designed within the frames - over to you Beverly lol. I must be more awake this morning as yesterday I didn't notice your deliberate oopsie in the heading lol so ok, I wasn't fully aware and you got me 😀
Sam - Pleased to see you here again. I've had several texts and emails from friends that log in everyday to see Sue's work but chose not to leave comments when the blog went 'off kilter' a year or so ago, but they asked if I knew why all of a sudden Sam's comments were an issue to some followers and was starting to feel a little cross and offended by this. Sam has her reasons some she explained yesterday some she doesn't need to share. Once I've left my morning comment I don't log in until the next day but as I was concerned that Sam maybe feeling a little hurt as not seen her the past day or so I kept checking back so I'm pleased your back and all is well, but can that be the end of the Spanish inquisition regarding the length of Sam's comment, those friends that I mentioned plus myself love the comment and it's useful even to one of the best it's useful, as she said "if she gets stuck she hunts down Sam's comment and 'gets it' so we've had annon comments left plus 2 or 3 for 'our Sam' can we please get back the old craft blog we've loved for many year's without all why's and wherefore's as I'm starting to hesitate before I think of posting and I've not done that since someone mentioned about how morbid it all got last year.

Sorry Sue, I feel it was time to protect a very long standing lovely follower of yours especially as I was being asked "why"
Sending living caring hugs your way with apologies tied with a messey bow xxx

Whilst I never get involved in people's comments, I do find many make me smile which can only be a good thing. I have learnt such a lot from Sue's daily blog and videos and cannot thank her enough for brightening my day.
Please, can't we just share our crafty knowledge with each other and treat people as we ourselves would like to be treated? With kindness?

  33. Dear Sue and Friends,

Blue and white would have been fine, but the vellum adds an ethereal quality in front and elegance on the two large hexagons. Such a pleasing card!

Myra, you're a week early for U.S. Thanksgiving. It's next Thursday.

Laine, if you haven't had a root canal done in a while, it's a lot different from how it used to be. Before, it was like torture, but now it's like going in for a little nap. I hope the pain meds they give you will more than compensate for your suffering.

As for strange little cat ways, they like whatever routine gives them your undivided attention. Mine likes to welcome me home by meeting me at the bottom of the driveway. Then he leads me up the path, throwing himself on the grass, which is usually wet, to look up at me with his belly showing. I pet his belly (once) and both sides, and resume walking. He runs in front and throws himself down again, hoping for more pets! He also likes to get rubbed down and roughed up with a towel if he comes in wet on a rainy day. I think he feels special like when he was a kitten getting cleaned by Mama. So funny that Darcey needs walkies now.

Please add my regards to those you deliver to The Princess.

I'll probably forget in time to be surprised tomorrow, but it's Double Day!

    Love,
    Donita

  65. Morning Sue, gorgeous card and the vellum softens it beautifully, this would make a lovely wedding card.
Nattyboots, I think you are making A6 cards, if you fold and A4 card in half it becomes and A5 card and if you cut the A4 card in half then fold the pieces, it becomes an A6, so that is the size of inserts you need, I hope that makes sense.

  104. Good evening lovely Sue and her crafty crew!

The Hexagon dies have to be amongst my most favourite of your recent dies however finances have dictated that i cannot get them before Christmas:-) Nevermind, i can still appreciate the spectacular beauty of your creations using them as your focal element. This card is stunning, so intricate and lacy, i love how you have utilised the vellum, never seen this before so must give it a try.
Yes Donita, Double Day to look forward to tomorrow, my favourite day of the week because it combines twice the pleasure with a Christmas theme....i have already started watching cheesy Festive movies of an afternoon so i am really feeling in the mood:-) Pity that it looks increasingly likely that I will be using shop bought creations this year though, lacking motivation to make my own due to SAD which always kicks in at this time of year:-(
You really made me smile, when we go for a walk Darcey will roll on her back exposing her tummy and just as I reach down to rub her she will run off. Her and Brodie love a good rub with a towel too, purring with pleasure....i sometimes think that they get deliberately wet just so I’ll do it:-)
I spoke with Yvonne this afternoon....yes, I had to have a lie down in a darkened room following the experience:-).....and she is very slowly building her strength back up. This bug has knocked her for six, she has lost a stone in weight and is feeling very fragile. She was touched by all the well wishes and promises to be back on the blog soon but at the moment she is sleeping a lot during the day which will aid her recovery I hope. I was super nice and sympathetic, even I cant kick a dog when it’s down:-), but I am looking forward to sparring with her again soon.
Rosemary, i try to be blasé about dental treatment because worse things could happen, I think of people like Andrew and Tracy who have much more to contend with and it really puts my experience into perspective. I did hear horror stories about root canal treatment though that would send your hair curly but when I had it a couple of years ago it was surprisingly straightforward and the pain was worse with the exposed nerve before I had it done than after. Who do you think will be voted off Strictly this weekend then? I think Mollie, Jonny or maybe even Susan because they are the weakest dancers left.
Maureen, how kind of your SIL to do your new kitchen, are you paying him in cups of tea? What are the units and worktops going to be like, are you going über modern with white gloss and no handles or rustic chic with wood and granite?
Carmen, how are you honey? You’ve been a little quiet....by the way, I think you’re English is superb, you should be proud of yourself because mastering a second language isn’t easy.
Elaine, hugs to you and Andrew, thinking of youxxx
Tracy, take care honey, sending hugsxxx

    Love and crafty hugs

Don't know what is happening but several blogs I subscribe to, including this one, I haven't had emails from today. If they don't come tomorrow I think I will have to resubscribe.. You have got us all guessing June. Is it something from Crafters Companion that is new? Glad you are enjoying the Gemini Elaine. Sorry to hear that Andrew isn't feeling so good. Hope he feels better soon. Echoing your comments today Pam. Take care everyone and special hugs to Tracy.

What a fantastic card. It's tha attention to detail which make your cards spectacular. Adding the velum behind the hexagons just adds that little bit of something special and sitting them atop your stitched frames adds that extra dimension. Very clever Sue, love it.

Carmen your English is brilliant and my remarks about grammar were most definitely not aimed at you or any of Sue's genuine followers. You are one of my besties!
Elaine, glad Jess and Francis could help, me I was just scratching my head!
Anne ( Topcards) hope today was not too difficult for you. Sending you an extra hug.
June you are such a tease! It's Mauve? I'll not sleep tonight!
Lorraine, so glad to hear Yvonne is on the mend albeit slowly, hope you phoning her hasn't knocked her back! It's Susan, definitely Susan this week! I was gutted when Ruth went.
I do hope I'm posting on the right day today! Yesterday (Wednesday) I posted on Tuesdays by mistake! And before you comment Myra, it had nothing to do with the glass of white stuff!
    Love and hugs for all
    Saba xxx

  110. Hello Sue,
I’m late and sorry about that! I love today’s card . I bought one Set of Hexagon Dies and I love them. I really love how you have used vellum today! I’d never have thought of that and it’s so very effective! Like the cobalt blue a lot too. Thank you for making me think of yet another way to utilise my Dies!
Ha ha ha! Who posted on the wrong day! Never mind Saba - I’ll be old like you one day!!
Carmen - anyone who is fluent in more than one language has my utmost respect and admiration! Maria is another one who has excellent English! Saba speaks German rather well too, I suppose!
I can sing songs and carols in German and French but that doesn’t count at all! Why did they think that would help when I was at school!
June - what are you like? A lavender Bush? I don’t mean you are like a lavender bush - is that your present!!!
Laine - so pleased Yvonne is feeling a bit better. She has had a tough time lately! You haven’t had an easy time yourself either but you are so positive! Thanks for the update on Yvonne and look after yourself! Glad you have been to Nardinis! Princess Anne has been too!!!
Donita - I realised I was a week early later yesterday! Never mind - Saba made a mistake too! Does that mean only Maureen is perfect?... ha ha!
Elaine glad Andrew is a bit better today!
Sam - hope it’s just internet problems! Missed you today.
Love to all, Myra ( Friend of Maureen)xxx

  114. Hi Sue. This is a beautiful card. Love the way you have turned the Hexagon's to make the diamond pattern and used the vellum. Can see this been jazzed up for a Wedding card or as is for a guy.
    Best Wishes

A truly beautiful card Sue and I am so glad to be back on the blog. Now in my new house and getting a bit organised thanks to one of my daughters who will be going back to Fuerteventura tomorrow.
I was without telephone and internet for 8 days and I hope someone missed me lol. I had 364 e.mails which will take me a week to read as I have to magnify every posting in order to see it.
I need to get into my craft room today and get cracking on my Christmas cards. I just hope I can find all my 'stuff'
    Love and hugs to all.
