Wednesday Weekly Card Giveaway

Hi crafters!  A more modern black and white take on Christmas for this week's card giveaway.  I started by cutting the Twinkle Star Background out of coconut white card and backing it with black card.  I used the Holly Lattice Frame to cut an aperture in the centre of it.  I added mounting foam to the back of it to raise it for dimension.  I used the same Twinkle Star Background and cut it out of vellum this time and glued it to a piece of coconut white card.  I seated the aperture over it.  Using the Double Pierced Noble Squares, I cut a multi layered square black and white frames for it and added it with foam to the top of the aperture piece.  I cut the Merry Little Christmas several times out of black card and stacked them up for dimension and glued them into the aperture opening.  I made three flowers from the Poinsettia Additions using the solid flower cut from white card and the outline cut from black card.  They were added in the corner with black Holly Swirls as accents.  Black and white mats and layers were added to complete the card.  The finished dimensions are 8" x  8" in size.  leave a comment to be entered into the drawing to win this one.  All for now, Sue x

  12. Morning Sue and all Wilsonettes, I must tell you Sue that this card would look really stupendous sitting alongside some other very special cards that I have received over the years, there is a little gap that this would fit nicely into, ha ha, cheeky aren't I but like everyone I would like to win it, fantastic giveaway today.

Pam I reiterate all you have said above, but please take care of yourself, it often used to happen to me that when I was on holiday from work then I used to get unwell, must be the shock of thinking about going back. Please take care as you are very special to all of us.

Off to my craft group today

Stay safe, healthy and happy, hugs, June Smith xxx

  32. Dear Sue and the Crafters of Many Colors,

Did anybody else think this was in red but our screens weren't showing color? I guess doing it in black and white makes it sophisticated. What about silver and white?

I like the subtlety of the white card showing through the white vellum star openings.

So sorry Pam that you aren't feeling well.

    Sending caring thoughts.

Today I left the house without my pocketbook (with car keys, house keys and cell phone) all locked up inside. (Climbed in through the dining room.) For lunch I went to a market and bought some prepared foods and went to pay, only to discover that my debit card and driver's license were not in my wallet, but still in my cargo pants from Saturday. (They let me pay by check using my expired license) But best of all, at work when I went to get my food from the communal fridge, I found that I had put my work bag in the cool, and parked my perishables under my desk.

Congratulations to the person who is going to win this card and doesn't know it yet.

    Love,
    Donita

What a striking card today, very modern. It would certainly get noticed on the mantelpiece wouldn't it. I do love your vellum poinsettias that's something I will be trying this year and the flourish might need to be investigated too as it adds a rather good corner piece to a simple card. Thank you for sharing, it's good to get ideas and inspiration from you.

Pam echoing your comments today, I hope you feel better soon. You haven't been running with those athletes in London have you?!!

Oh Donita they do say things come in threes over here, never mind things can only get better sending love and hugs.
Crewe Trish and Elaine thinking of you all sending love and hugs.
Well I had a shock yesterday when I saw consultant. I have epilepsy. Wasn't expecting that, but could have been a lot worse and I feel truly thankful. I am not allowed to drive for 1 year until the meds work so have already surrendered my licence. I'm lucky hubby can drive and has taken early retirement.
Was going to post a blog yesterday but was a bit upset. Apparently explains why my memory is very poor, can't remember this is said a few minutes earlier or details of past holidays. Don't know if that will come back with meds.
    Anyway enough of me.
Sending love and hugs to you all xxxxxxxxxxx

  40. Hi Sue,

Very striking monochromatic card this morning, not sure if I would di that as I love the Christmas colours. But I do have some Gothic youngsters that would probably adore it.

Had a lovely few days with my sister and her fiancé last week and over the weekend. Only trouble was I had lost my voice and could only squeak not speak. It is very husky this morning so on its way to return.

Sorry to read you not well Pam, sending you very extra special squashy hugs.

  66. Hi Sue, a beautiful card for those that like monochrome although I think I would prefer Donita's idea of silver and white because I love the design. I'm a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to Christmas and love my reds, greens, golds and lots of glitter of course :-)

Pam - being unwell when on holiday is not allowed, please get better quickly.
Donita - what are you like? I hope the rest of the day was an improvement.
Carmen - Canada was always somewhere I would have liked to visit but unfortunately since hubby's stroke last year holidays, even in the UK, are not possible. I shall just have to raise a virtual glass to you on your birthday.
Rosemary - sorry for your diagnosis but I do believe the epilepsy medication works very well and when they get the balance right you should feel a whole lot better.

    Hi Sue,
It's an SWS card (Sue Wilson Stunner). Loving every bit about it, including the colourscheme. But me being me, would probably have added just that touch of red with the poinsettias ('cos I just can't resist red) :-)
And then having added the red, would have thought "Sue's more classy".

  98. Hi Sue,

You know my personal opinion about using black on cards but somehow, I like this one. Maybe you are right, black and white give the modern look, we don’t have always to go for the traditional red and green for Christmas. To be honest I don’t think I will like this card using traditional colors. Thank you for sharing this beautiful card that will make happy one person on Saturday. Good luck everyone!

Pam – Sorry to hear you are not well. Please take care of yourself. Wish you a speedy recovery. A big hug from Canada for you.
Rosemary – Oh dear. I really hoped for good news. So sorry to hear about your diagnosis. As you said, could be worse. Epilepsy is manageable with the right medication. I have a co-worker with epilepsy, but not everybody in our company is aware of this because he looks healthy and he didn’t have any episode at work. He’s not driving indeed, but he’s doing a normal life. He has a beautiful, healthy 2 years old boy and they are planning to have another child.
Sending you a gentle hug and don’t forget, we are here for you.
Donita – You made me laugh, sorry. Hope your day got better.
Elaine – I think everything will be OK regarding the door situation. Glad to hear about Andrew and Mary. Sending hugs to you and to your loved ones.
Fluffycat – I understand what you and your hubby are going thru. A stoke can change drastically your life and affects everybody life around you. All the best to both of you.
Sharon C.- Feel better soon. If a hug will help, I am sending one to you. Take care.
    Paul – Welcome back!

    Be happy & healthy,
Still a newbie to Craft / not longer the newest, or the only Canadian Wilsonette

  107. Good evening lovely Sue and her crafty crew!

What a treat to have one of your fabulous Christmas creations as the weekly giveaway, you do spoil us all Sue:-)
I LOVE monochrome Chrizzy cards, i use milk and black quite often in my own designs and always end up keeping at least one of them for myself to display at home. The card design is inspired and one that I will definitely be 'borrowing ' when I eventually get my own cards up and running....particularly love the Starry Background, cutting it in vellum is inspired! Beautiful card, someone is going to be very pleased when their name is announced on Saturday, good luck ladies....and gentleman:-)
I do hope that my comment hasn't caused any unnecessary shock or alarm, I'm aware that it has been some time since i have appeared but life has been a challenge of sorts for me of late and as a result i have been unable to comment:-(
I have really missed my daily dose of Sues marvels and of all the Blog gossip....I am woefully uninformed on this count so apologies if i am not up to speed yet, i will try my best to keep up:-)
Briefly, just to keep you in the loop, i had Keratitis in both eyes....ulcers on the iris....for a number of weeks and was unable to see properly. I had to wear sunglasses because of the sensitivity to light and everything was out of focus and blurry. I was sent to the hospital for treatment and given steroid eyedrops which eventually worked a treat.
Just as my eyes were healing i had a series of migraines and a sickness virus then last week i had some surgery on two cancerous lesions on my chest and back...the surgery went smoothly however the chest wound has gone septic and has needed further treatment:-(
So, hence my lengthy absence. I see that others have been having health troubles, Pam, i do hope you feel better soon, particularly since it has coincided with your holiday, take care and look after yourselfxxx
Rosemarie, sorry to hear your diagnosis, don't be scared though, ive had epilepsy for 24 years now and you find that in time and with the help of medication you will adapt and still be able to lead a full and happy life, good luckxxx
Elaine, have you been having trouble with your neighbour again? I'm glad that it has quietened down though, hopefully peace will reign. Wishing Andrew wellxxx
Donita, time to get yourself a dedicated carer methinks, before you do something really weird or stupid:-) What? Who mentioned age/dementia?
Carmen, what a lovely holiday, i am sooo jealous:-) Congrats on your Anniversary, your hubby deserves a medal after all those years!:-), not just a bottle of bubbly and fancy meal!
Myra and Maureen, i have really missed your banter girls, hope you are both wellxxx
Love and hugs to all my besties on the blog, keeping it relatively short and sweet for today...he'd to ease myself back in i think!

    Love and crafty hugs

  108. Hi Sue what a fabulous give away card I love it!
Pam so sorry you are unwell whilst on holiday it's strange but that often happens! I hope you will soon be feeling better
Rosemary that must have been a shock to be diagnosed with epilepsy I'm so sorry, but at least it is an ailment that can be treated and once the medication kicks in hopefully you will feel much better sending you big caring hugs
Dawn sorry to hear you have a bad back I hope you get that appointment soon
Donita what a nightmare day it's odd that once one thing goes wrong in a day other calamities happen I hope you have a better day tomorrow
Elaine with someone moving in next door who has to use a wheelchair surely your entrances will have to be appropriate for your needs
    Sending good wishes to all

  112. Hi Sue and everyone.
Lovely card Sue even in White and Black but for me it has to
be Red and Green for most of my seasonal cards.
Do need the Indonesian dies though, they are beautiful

Pam, Sharon, Dawn, Rosemary, Cheryl, Laine (nice to see you back) and
to anyone else not good, I wish you all better and happier days and
    sending healing hugs.
Donita, hope your day got better. what are you like Lol
Carmen, wonderful memories. Love going to Canada one day.
This summer ?? yes what summer, is absolutely awful for us
with fibromyalgia and SAD so have had better days. I also having
the knee keyhole on Monday and shoulder needling on Thursday so
    a busy week at hospitals.

    Take care everyone,
    Maria x

  113. Hello Sue,
I'm very late again! Please don't tell Elaine as she will give me a telling off!!
I love today's card! I think I'd have to give it to another crafter if I made it as I'm not sure the monochrome would be to everyone's taste but personally I think it's gorgeous! I have to say I ordered the Holly Swirl and it really is lovely. I've cut lots of them! It is so stylish.
Donita - I hope the day ended better than it began! You did make me laugh! None of these things would ever happen to me of course!! If you believe that you will believe anything!
Rosemary - sorry about your news but as others have said once you get used to the medication you will learn to live with it! According to someone I know well - avoid getting overtired and don't get too hungry. Regular meals are important! Hope you manage well.
Laine - I've missed you!! Boy oh boy - you don't do things by halves my dear! What a time you have had! I'm so pleased your eyes are better though - that must have been a bit scary to say the least! I will try to be nice for a few days! I can you know!!
Pam - sorry you are unwell on your holiday! Not fair! Sending a hug or two in your direction too!
I've got to call it a day!
    Thank you Sue,
Love to everyone , Myra ( Friend of Maureen!" ) xx

  117. A very beautiful and elegant card Sue. I wouldn't personally use it as a Christmas card and I ask myself "Why not?" but don't get an answer.
I am missing doing my cards at the moment in my effort to keep the house tidy. Not had any viewers this week so perhaps I'll make a couple of cards today.

So sorry for all those feeling poorly. Take a healing hug from me.

  120. I personally adore this card but some on my list would be puzzled by the black & white for Christmas, their loss. If I won, they wouldn't be getting it any way.
Donita! You have an interesting life. Hope everyone gets well soon and all, have a good day.
