Wednesday Weekly Card Giveaway
Hello crafters! This card was originally planned as a demo on some of the shows that I did late last year, but we ran out of time to do it. So I thought I would offer it up for the weekly card giveaway instead. I started by cutting the Mauritius shape out of a piece of Blue Dusk card. I added mounting foam to the aperture to raise it and seated it over a piece of coconut white card. I cut the Mauritius die in black and recessed it down into the aperture. I cut the smaller die from the Bora Bora set out of Blue Dusk card and cut it down and reassembled it. I cut the smaller die in the Mauritius set out of white and seated it over the blue Bora Bora so it was just peeking out the top and bottom of it. I stamped my sentiment and cut it out with the oval and cut one more oval out of black that I nipped in half to use as a shadow for it. I cut a myriad of sizes out of the Stitched Flag die set in white and curled the forked ends slightly and added them to the right side of the card just to show a fun way to use them. It is very different from my usual manner of using them for sentiments. I cut several of the Striped Nasturtium outline dies and created three flowers which I seated around the sentiment and corner of the card as accents. White, black and Blue Dusk mats and layers were added to complete the card. The finished dimensions are 6" x 8 1/2" in size. Please leave a comment if you would like a chance to win this one! Elaine, I'm so glad that your John found his sisters, what a joyous reunion that must have been. Thank you ladies fir kind comments. I was 16 when my sister was bien and within 2 months we knew my mum wasn't going to make it, I had to look after her, my dad, 4 brothers and the home, so Nana took the baby, she was 67, under 5 feet tall and was our rock. She lost grandad the year after Mum so my sister became her life. She was such a special person but funny too. I still miss her. Carmen, you have had a spending treat with Sues dies, enjoy them. Helen, good to hear that you are feeling better after so much pain and discomfort. You will get there. June, two sets of twin girls so quickly must have been like having quads, your mum and dad were heroic. My mums friend had two sets of triplets and one set of twins, they were big families in those days. Hugs to all, especially our poorly and missing friends, both Tina's, in my thoughts daily. Keep warm it turned cold again last night but nowhere near as bad as Donitas weather. Stay safe.
Morning Sue and all Wilsonettes, a really lovely card today Sue, I like the way you have used the tags at the side, reminds me of waves on the sea shore.......yes I know I am crackers at times.
Pam, yes we used to be mistaken for the 'Goode' quads, they were born about the same time as us and were quite famous. my Dad's brother had triplets and the only other twins in the family were from my Dad's side born in 1764 in France and all of the twins and triplets were girls, amazing isn't it. Your Nana sounds like a remarkable lady, families used to pull together didn't they, sometimes today they just take the easy option (I think someone said that on yesterday's blog).
Looking forward to Ally Pally, if I can persuade my hubby to take me, he might if I only stay for about an hour and a half, but I can live with that, fingers crossed he is in a good mood.
Well best finish now as getting ready for my crafting Wednesday.
Elaine, hope the pain is easier, how wonderful that John is now in contact with his sisters. Hope Andrews treatment goes well tomorrow.

Hiya Sue happy Wednesday ☺ ok so the first few photos show as black and custard then the last couple show the true blue and black ! Hmmm, re-read and rewind lol. Delightfully nicer in blue and black, plus you've given me another kick up the backside and reminded me that I've not even shown my two dies from that group any love at all ! Because my last 3 orders have been so specific - 2 being for the awkward gender and 18 pretty has been out of the question but I have a wedding card to do, they want a CAS, I can do a CAS with my Seychelles or which ever island die I have can't I ? I love how these dies look with contrasting colours behind them, I think they were meant for black card too as the shadows they make are really cleverly designed, love love love today's card giveaway Sue. Why can't I think of things like that, I just don't seem to have the brain for seeing different uses for dies, but thankfully you have the wonderful talent to do that for us. A lovely bright card to cheer us up today. The dies are very striking in your choice of colours. And to add the flags, well that is the icing on the cake.
Pam, my sister and I went to live with our grandparents in Australia during the time my father was posted overseas to Nigeria. They had no schools for over 10 year olds so it was a great adventure for us to travel by boat all the way across to the other side of the world. Our nan was short, stout and very feisty, we knew how to behave, she made sure of that. Granddad was oh so lovely, very tall & mild tempered, they were a perfect foil to each other. Granddad died in 1970 and I still miss him so much. Nan lived until she was 98. I know you shouldn't have a favourite but this was my Nanny Campkin, mum's mother, she taught us to embroider, crochet and latchet rug making and I loved going to stay with her in the school holidays. She used to tell me such wonderful stories of when she was growing up, the 1800's were so different to the 1900's. She died in 1985 aged 89.

Great card for the giveaway, Sue, always loved the Mauritius die - but don't have it. Not sure about the flags, but can see them used like this with your nautical/sea collection. Pam, when you said you were the eldest, thought maybe that you'd had to take over as carer, and what a huge responsibility at 16. Thanks again for your up-top summary - echoing. Morning Sue, a lovely card today. I wouldn't have thought of using the flags like that, so different. I was born the year the war finished and never knew any of my grandparents. I missed such a lot I think, and have no memories to look back on. I think this is why I am so hands on with my wonderful Grandchildren, I want them to have memories, nice ones I hope. Sorry I don't usually comment on personal things, but all this talk of Grandparents got me thinking of how much I had missed. Thank you ladies for sharing your memories.
Good morning Sue, a beautiful card, I love colours and the little Flags. A card any of your followers would love to have popping through their door. Sorry I missed yesterday ... one of those days!! Hugs for all who lost parents while still very young. We lost mum when we were grown up but still quite young, we did have two sisters 6 & 3. Hazel my newly married sister and BIL took them to live with them and brought them up. They eventually had 3 children of their own so in all they had 5 children. Is it any wonder Hazel became a professional Nanny?? We just don't know what goes on in other people lives, do we? Pam I echo today's great summary. Have a great day Patricia xxx

Good morning Sue What a gorgeous card today, the black blue and white is such a fresh combination. I have to say I like it when you cut the Mauritius die in black because it shows all the detail. The flags at the sides are a great addition too and it's great to see the striped nasturtium again. Thank you for sharing. I only had grandparents on mums side by the time I was born and have lovely memories of them both (time spent with grandad in his greenhouse was a real treat, he used to 'tick' when you cuddled him, his pocket watch!). I've got lots of aunts and uncles on my dad's side to make up for grandparents though, in fact I'm seeing two sets of them today, both very elderly but I know there will be mischief! Rosemarie , i only had one grandparent , and she was oh soooooo { i will say horrid to my brother and i at times } i have no happy memories at all , this is why i spend so much time , making and playing with my own grandchildren , i want them to have happy memories .

Lovely card. There's that Mauritius die again.....just lovely. I like the effect of the stitched flags down the side, but love them even more used with sentiments. I use my pierced ones all the time with sentiments, think I've got into a habit.
Liked hearing all the family stories. Pam you did a wonderful job for all your family, especially for one so young and grieving. That is probably why you have turned out so kind, caring and empathetic to everyone else especially on the blog. The world would be a much better place if there were more people like you. X

Lovely card for a giveaway and using some of my favourite dies too - I wouldn't have thought of using that pretty Bora Bora insert die as a backing for the focal point though - great idea and those pierced flags at the side could also be used to stamp complementary sentiments...

Good Morning Sue and all. Two stunning cards to day and how different they look in the two colours. Love the flags on the side and the striped Nasturtiums.. As always you cards blow me away............ Wendy
This one is so interesting. I had to study it and look up what the Bora Bora looks like because mine hasn't yet arrived from my last binge. I'm gathering that you cut down the Bora Bora hexagon so it would just peek out from under the Mauritius frame holding the sentiment. P in Wales and June Smith are onto something when they say the pierced flags have a nautical look. Like those signal flags on big sailboats.
Our storm was disappointing to those who wanted lots of snow and to surfers looking for storm waves. The waves were coming in from all directions so nobody was in the water. We only got about 6 inches, then it turned to rain. I had dinner at a beach bar that I'd written about because erosion is putting it in danger of falling into the ocean. The whole bar would rumble when waves hit the wooden braces underneath, and it wasn't even high tide yet. I ate about half my quesadilla and got out of there.
It fascinating to hear about the remarkable families behind such lovely people.
Blessings on you, Pam, for living so your difficulties turn into blessings for so many, such as us. I'm among the many who are grateful.

Morning Sue. This is a beautiful card for your Wednesday giveaway. My tablet is showing yellow and black colours for the first few pictures so was a bit confused with your discription but the last two or three pictures show the card in its true colours and they are gorgeous. A quick follow up , Andrew can not have treatment tomorrow, all results are way too low, and has been told that he will be having more treatments ,{ he thought it was just 2 more to go } a bit of a bummer i think , but he says Mum i feel fine don't worry.
Morning Sue, love the combination of this die, and the colours just 'pop', whoever wins this will be a very lucky person.
I can't remember much about my dads parents when I was young, they lived with my dads sister, so we didn't see them very much, and I was quite young when they died, my mums parents lived in the same village as us so we saw them nearly every day, after my grandma died,, I used to call into grandpa's on the way home from school to get some shopping for him, at the end of the week he gave me my pocket money, the princely sum of half a crown (2/6). Reading everyone's memories brought things all back, take care everyone xxx
A lovely card again today, like the use of the flag dies down the edge, and the flowers look delicate too. My Mum was the youngest of 11, Dad one of 5, and I was the youngest of our family, so never had any grand paresnts, in fact, never even knew some of my Aunts and uncles. Love reading these stories,
Hello Sue Another lovely card ,I wasn't sure about the flags at first but the more I look at it the more it's growing on me. I am really enjoying all the talk about childhood and grandparents they bring back so many memories. Elaine my daughters mother-in-law has little to do with my two sweet little ones even though she only lives 15 minutes from them it broke my heart when Katie asked me why her grandma didn't love her. Saba both my granddaughters are learning German and have been since nursery Elissa is meeting up with her penpal and is going to spend the morning with her having lessons at her school. Such a pretty card today. Your Mauritius die has a striking look to it with the stripes within the design. I don't think any other designer of dies is doing the stripe look.
Hello Sue, It's very hard to beat blue, black and milk card! It's so effective. I only have the stitched flags and the nasturtium Dies , don't have the others. However I have others I could use to put my spin on this lovely card. Before Laine says it - blue is my favourite colour!!! Donita - I forgot that you were a Journalist so would have been looking for a "story" yesterday! Have you warmed up yet! It's been another beautiful day here today. Doesn't feel like March at all! Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned that! It's been really interesting to read everyone's family stories! I remember both sets of grandparents very fondly but my maternal grandparents were my favourites! They gave me of their time - I learned from that. I think! My husband has carried each of our grandchildren around the garden letting them touch various plants even gently touching the sharp thorns on the roses - that way they know they can hurt! I wonder if they'll remember that! Pam - you had it hard as a child but itsmade you the lovely lady you are today! Thanks for helping us each day. I see Saba agreed with me yesterday! What a lovely card for the giveaway this week. The Mauritius die is one of my all time favorites. What really made the card interesting is the clever way that you have used the stitched flags at the side of the card, quite different but nice. Quite striking done in the blue, black and white.

Hi Sue I'm sorry I didn't get around to looking in on your blog yesterday as it was a very busy day however yesterdays card was certainly beautiful as is todays I like the way you've used the stitched flags very different. Well what a lot of interesting and heart warming memories of childhood and grandparents we have had over the last two days I have wonderful memories of both sets of Grandparents and was very fortunate to live close to them. Pam how sad to lose your Mum at such a young age it must have been very difficult for you to look after all your family when you were so young yourself but it has shaped you into the most caring and thoughtful person and we are all benefiting from your wisdom. Lovely giveaway card with an unusual way to use the stitched flags dies. You push us to think out of box, again. (I don’t know how many of us are able to do it ... it is easier to rely on you). Blue, black & white are a beautiful colour combination. Striped Nasturtium dies are on my wish list. You prove it again that buying these dies will be a good investment since you can use the outline dies only or the whole set.

On top of this they apply a surcharge of 10% of the total value of your order due to the conversion of US to CAD. With this amount I could easily buy at least one more set of dies. ReplyDeleteA lovely bright card to cheer us up today. The dies are very striking in your choice of colours. And to add the flags, well that is the icing on the cake.
Pam, my sister and I went to live with our grandparents in Australia during the time my father was posted overseas to Nigeria. They had no schools for over 10 year olds so it was a great adventure for us to travel by boat all the way across to the other side of the world. Our nan was short, stout and very feisty, we knew how to behave, she made sure of that. Granddad was oh so lovely, very tall & mild tempered, they were a perfect foil to each other. Granddad died in 1970 and I still miss him so much. Nan lived until she was 98.
I know you shouldn't have a favourite but this was my Nanny Campkin, mum's mother, she taught us to embroider, crochet and latchet rug making and I loved going to stay with her in the school holidays. She used to tell me such wonderful stories of when she was growing up, the 1800's were so different to the 1900's.
She died in 1985 aged 89.

ReplyDeleteMorning Sue, a lovely card today. I wouldn't have thought of using the flags like that, so different. I was born the year the war finished and never knew any of my grandparents. I missed such a lot I think, and have no memories to look back on. I think this is why I am so hands on with my wonderful Grandchildren, I want them to have memories, nice ones I hope. Sorry I don't usually comment on personal things, but all this talk of Grandparents got me thinking of how much I had missed. Thank you ladies for sharing your memories.

Hugs for all who lost parents while still very young. We lost mum when we were grown up but still quite young, we did have two sisters 6 & 3. Hazel my newly married sister and BIL took them to live with them and brought them up. They eventually had 3 children of their own so in all they had 5 children. Is it any wonder Hazel became a professional Nanny??
We just don't know what goes on in other people lives, do we?

Pam you and your Nan kept the family together as dis Patricia's sister Hazel, you are remarkable women. I only had grandparents on mums side by the time I was born and have lovely memories of them both (time spent with grandad in his greenhouse was a real treat, he used to 'tick' when you cuddled him, his pocket watch!). I've got lots of aunts and uncles on my dad's side to make up for grandparents though, in fact I'm seeing two sets of them today, both very elderly but I know there will be mischief! Xxx

ReplyDeleteLovely card. There's that Mauritius die again.....just lovely. I like the effect of the stitched flags down the side, but love them even more used with sentiments. I use my pierced ones all the time with sentiments, think I've got into a habit.
Liked hearing all the family stories. Pam you did a wonderful job for all your family, especially for one so young and grieving. That is probably why you have turned out so kind, caring and empathetic to everyone else especially on the blog. The world would be a much better place if there were more people like you. X

ReplyDeleteThis one is so interesting. I had to study it and look up what the Bora Bora looks like because mine hasn't yet arrived from my last binge. I'm gathering that you cut down the Bora Bora hexagon so it would just peek out from under the Mauritius frame holding the sentiment. P in Wales and June Smith are onto something when they say the pierced flags have a nautical look. Like those signal flags on big sailboats.
Our storm was disappointing to those who wanted lots of snow and to surfers looking for storm waves. The waves were coming in from all directions so nobody was in the water. We only got about 6 inches, then it turned to rain. I had dinner at a beach bar that I'd written about because erosion is putting it in danger of falling into the ocean. The whole bar would rumble when waves hit the wooden braces underneath, and it wasn't even high tide yet. I ate about half my quesadilla and got out of there.
It fascinating to hear about the remarkable families behind such lovely people.
Blessings on you, Pam, for living so your difficulties turn into blessings for so many, such as us. I'm among the many who are grateful.

Morning Sue. This is a beautiful card for your Wednesday giveaway. My tablet is showing yellow and black colours for the first few pictures so was a bit confused with your discription but the last two or three pictures show the card in its true colours and they are gorgeous. ReplyDeleteI can't remember much about my dads parents when I was young, they lived with my dads sister, so we didn't see them very much, and I was quite young when they died, my mums parents lived in the same village as us so we saw them nearly every day, after my grandma died,, I used to call into grandpa's on the way home from school to get some shopping for him, at the end of the week he gave me my pocket money, the princely sum of half a crown (2/6).

ReplyDeleteAnother lovely card ,I wasn't sure about the flags at first but the more I look at it the more it's growing on me. I am really enjoying all the talk about childhood and grandparents they bring back so many memories. Elaine my daughters mother-in-law has little to do with my two sweet little ones even though she only lives 15 minutes from them it broke my heart when Katie asked me why her grandma didn't love her. Saba both my granddaughters are learning German and have been since nursery Elissa is meeting up with her penpal and is going to spend the morning with her having lessons at her school. June H wow 59 years have a lovely day.

Reassembled It, Sue Then You Cut The Smaller Die From "The Mauritius Die Set" Out Of The White Card And
Seated It Over The Blue "Bora Bora" So It Was Just Peeking Out Of Top/Bottom Of It.

Such a pretty card today. Your Mauritius die has a striking look to it with the stripes within the design. I don't think any other designer of dies is doing the stripe look.

ReplyDeleteIt's very hard to beat blue, black and milk card! It's so effective. I only have the stitched flags and the nasturtium Dies , don't have the others. However I have others I could use to put my spin on this lovely card. Before Laine says it - blue is my favourite colour!!!

It's been another beautiful day here today. Doesn't feel like March at all! Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned that!
It's been really interesting to read everyone's family stories! I remember both sets of grandparents very fondly but my maternal grandparents were my favourites! They gave me of their time - I learned from that. I think! My husband has carried each of our grandchildren around the garden letting them touch various plants even gently touching the sharp thorns on the roses - that way they know they can hurt! I wonder if they'll remember that!
Pam - you had it hard as a child but itsmade you the lovely lady you are today! Thanks for helping us each day.
I see Saba agreed with me yesterday! The age of miracles is not yet over!! Lol!

Pam how sad to lose your Mum at such a young age it must have been very difficult for you to look after all your family when you were so young yourself but it has shaped you into the most caring and thoughtful person and we are all benefiting from your wisdom.

(I don’t know how many of us are able to do it ... it is easier to rely on you). Blue, black & white are a beautiful colour combination. Striped Nasturtium dies are on my wish list. You prove it again that buying these dies will be a good investment since you can use the outline dies only or the whole set.
