Hello Friend

Hello friends!  I truly wish that I was able to capture the colours of this card, but take my word for it, it is very striking!  You have to start with a much larger piece of card that your final finished piece to do this one.  The reason being is that as you cut into it, if it is smaller, the branches of the tree will fall away and you won't be left with anything you can work with.  If however, you start with a larger piece, you can cut the Family Tree four times in to the background (just the head of the tree inward, not the trunk) and your card will stay together except for the pieces of the tree you remove.  Next create a Pixie Powder background by tapping various colours on to a piece of coconut white card.  I used Aubergine Dream, Emerald Green, Burnt Orange and Straw Yellow for this.  Spritz with water and dry well.  Attach your black background with the tree heads cut from it over the top of the pixied background (I used spray glue for this) and now you can trim it to any desired size in your paper cutter.  The backing from the pixie powders will hold any of the sections of the tree background in place, nothing will fall off this way (I do hope that all makes sense!)  Next I cut the Bora Bora die out of white and backed it with black and cut the centre out.  I used a bit of leftover Pixie Powder background to use on the inside of the frame as the floor and I used the Tahiti and Bora Bora dies to cut a thin frame out of it as well and added it to the Bora Bora around the inside edge.  I stamped my sentiment and cut it out with one of the smaller hexagons and added a slightly larger black mat hexagon to it before seating it in the centre of the frame.  I completed the card with white and black mats and layers.  The finished dimensions are 6 1/4" x  7 1/4" in size.  All for now, Sue x

  20. Good morning Sue. Sorry today's card is not for me, a bit dark and dull. Not everyone will feel that, then again it would be a terrible world if we were all alike and liked the exact same things. The design with brighter colours would maybe bring my thinking round.
Hope the trade show is going well.

  25. Dear Sue and Avid Fans,

Not only do you give us this wonderful card, but you also give us the tip about starting with a larger paper to hold the trees together. This might work with a piece of scrapbook paper if we don't have pixie powders yet. I wonder if a spring green instead of black would work for an early summer look.
You're making it increasingly difficult to resist the Bora Bora die.
We had a beautiful warm day for a walk in an oceanside park in Connecticut. Everybody was out with their dogs, including a pug in a stroller with a matching pug running circles around it. Their owner was not having a good time but the hyperactive pug more than made up for it. We saw a few dogs that were so small, there was more happy than dog.
Thank you for such an interesting card.
May everyone's week be off to a good start.

    Love,
    Donita

Wow what a fantastic card today, this tree die is really growing on me (sorry!). I do love the pixie powder backgrounds and must get a stash sorted so I can just go to them and make a quick card. I get impatient waiting for them to dry and until I find my heat gun which I've obviously put in a safe place, the dry time is much longer. Your cutting out description is perfect. Thank you. Hope the trade show is going well.

Donita- you made me smile with your pug story. They are a funny looking
little dog and so cute when they are puppies. It must be something in
the weather because the dogs we saw this morning on our walk were running
    around like lunatics everywhere Lol
Diane- very carefully use a file and you should soon have the problem sorted.
Not a good look having twigs growing Lol
Pam-sending some special hugs to you because you are a special lady and
also to anyone else who need one. I have plenty to give and of course
our Sue always know she have some special once every day.

    many hugs Maria x

  122. Hi Sue, a great card and I love the pixied background. Overall a little dark for me but I am sure it looks really good in real life.

Gloria - congratulations on the safe arrival of your new granddaughter, I hope you have plenty of cuddles.
Sandra - I recognise the description of your nan's jewellery box, my mum had a very similar one and you have just taken me back at least 50 years!

  124. Hello Sue,

What clever and innovative way to use the Family Tree die. You always so willingly give us such clever hints and tips like no one else that I know. As you said, the photo doesn't show us the actual coloring of the card but from the names of the pixie powders that you used I'm sure that is bright and cheerful. Thanks for sharing.

  126. Good evening Sue, sorry for my absence for the last few days, I have been away to help celebrate my nephew's 40th birthday with family and long standing friends in Malta. Flew back today and apart from the mundane things we all do after holidays I have been catching up with your blog. Some really stunning samples and I think the Bora Bora die is fast becoming my new favourite.
Congratulations to the winners of the comment game and the Wednesday card giveaway.
Crafty hugs to you Sue and all on the blog.

  130. Oh what a shame. Such a beautiful card and I don' t have the tree die or pixie powders but I could try doing something similar using my collection of your leaf dies and gilding flakes perhaps when I get back home. Or I could put them on my "want" list. Great idea Sue and thank you for your helpful tips. Hugs xx P Austen
