Christmas Double Day

Hello crafters!  We have a double dose of Christmas and of Pixie Powders too!  I started by making a full sized sheet of pixied background, using the Midnight blue, the Teal Wash and Peacock Green.  I just love the burst of colours together so I cut the sheet in half and for the first card, I cut the Bold Snowflake Flurry in the upper portion of the card.  I decided to use the aperture for this card, but I kept the snowflake for later.  I added mounting foam to the back to raise it and added it over a piece of coconut white card that I added a square of sticky adhesive sheet to in the same location as the cut out.  I peeled the backing paper off and coated it with Diamond Sprinkles.  I adhered the aperture to the backing so that the snowflake cut out had the glittered piece showing through.  Next I cut several of the Lavish Joy die and stacked them for dimension.  I glued it in place under the aperture for a clean and simple styled card.  The card was completed with a simple white on white mat.  The finished dimensions are 6 1/2" x  8" in size.  Scroll down for card number two.

Card number two used the other part of the initial background piece.  I cut two more Bold Snowflake Flurry dies out of it, not forgetting that I still had the one from the aperture cut in the card above. I embossed a piece of coconut white card with the Star Swirls embossing folder for texture.   I raised up the whole snowflake on mounting foam and then added the other two so they were only partially on the background above and below.  I trimmed the snowflakes even with the edge of the card.  I cut the Warmest Wishes die in white twice and stacked them, then cut one more in black and used it as an offset shadow.  I glued the sentiment in place between the snowflakes.  I finished this card with a simple white on white mat as well.  The finished dimensions are 6 1/2" x  7 1/2" in size.   Not your traditional Christmas cards, but still very pretty and contemporary I think.   All for now, Sue x

Tina T, what is happening at your hospital, nothing ever seems to be straightforward, I hope Peter is feeling a little better, you could both do without this stress.
Elaine, my continued good wishes for you and Andrew, hope the fish are still biting.
Tina and Mick, I hope all is well with you both.
June, now the stitches are out you should start to feel so much better when you are pain free.
June Smith, you have a lovely hubby bringing you breakfast, what a treasure.
I've just got the last of the New Arrivals dies, now have full collection, they are so gorgeous.
Daily hugs to Tracey, Laine, Lorraine, Emily and Sarah and all who are not well.
Prayers for all caught up in the terrible storms in the Caribbean and Florida. One of my team mates is in Barbados with his wife, so worrying..

  19. Morning Sue. Ohh dear I really should be trying to find some enthusiasm to make a start on the festive cards that I need ready for market plus those orders I've received, cuz I know what'll happen, the days and weeks will fly by and I'll keep saying I need to start them then something else will crop up and I'll end up a stress head cuz I've left it all to the last minute ! Even with all your lovely samples, tutorials and inspiration, I still find it really hard to get into the 'swing' of that time of year, I'm a bah-humbug anyway but my ba is even bigger when we still have a few months to go before the day arrives lol. Pact time, I need to make a pact with proof that I've made a start and it needs to start today me thinks by going through your saved pins and videos and get at least two of the 7 x 7's done that have been ordered, at least I've got the stamps and dies needed out of their Summer hibernation just as a visual kick up the butt, I just need to work with them instead of keep moving them to get to my everyday dies and my New Additions collection - I think I need to blame you Sue for side tracking me with these cuties if that's ok, one thing I would have loved yesterday when I'd got the go ahead to stick the little boys first birthday card down is a matching Nursery type embossing folder or a folder that matches your baby collection (unless there is something within the CE arsenal I don't know about) ? But I'd really find a matching folder useful that would suit either gender that way we could have embossed frames too if an all over design wasn't needed, I love having my frames embossed especially if the main body of the card is CAS.
Anyway your festive double day has to be the start of my festive marathon and I must not get side tracked, and after scrolling up and down half a dozen times, I think those pixie's have first place, just about.
Hope you enjoy your day and the show goes well tonight, I'm all set up to record whilst watching what I can, so take these hugs with you throughout the day and pop it in your bag when you're checking you've not forgotten anything such as your 'umbrella' !!! Lol xxx

Thank you for these two blue cards, although lovely in their own right number two does it for me!!! 😀
Peter is a lot more comfortable now he has had his tube changed(stingy with the dressings though) so I have had to put on some more. He is looking brighter in himself and says now he knows what is going on can sort himself out.
Pam , you will love using the Baby dies, I have the shadow box, the animals and the stitched 🌺 s, Just been doing a version of the baby safari card for my great niece's christening next week, I doubled up the animals and embossed them, the detail is fantastic.
June Smith, hope you soon feel better, it is awful not being able to breathe. You have a one in a million for a husband bringing you breakfast every day. Also need to be infection free before your operation, 😘😘
Our love goes out to all those suffering from Hurricane Mathews backlash.

  64. Hi,Sue,
I love it when you can use both parts of the die cutting. I keep telling myself to place the dies in such a way as to enable me to use the negative but I always seem to remember when the card is going through the die cutter lol.
Both cards today are brilliant and the council, ours really mix well together.
Pam: the dog has been fine throughost, I think she planned it so that the hardest part of her skull made contact with my forehead. I one the other hand didn't do as well and after two days of the dizzies every time I stood, the fact that i kept falling asleep and feeling sick all the time we reached the conclusion that I had a mild concussion as well as a technicolour forehead!! Feeling a bit better today though and I even managed to get out my MDF tree ornaments ready to decorate them, so some crafting is on the horizon 🤗

  72. Hi Sue, as you say they are not traditional Christmas cards but they are lovely. I do have a preference for the second one, not quite sure why though. Looking forward to your upcoming shows and some more inspiring demo's.

June H - glad you are more comfortable now with the stitches out.
June S - hope you get some sleep, it is no fun having a rotten cold. I get my flu jab on Monday so fingers crossed I don't have the same reaction.
Bejay - hope you are up to some crafting. Animal heads sometimes seem to be made from iron. A past cat once ran right through the greenhouse (the door was open) and out the other end straight through a window pane. Shook his head and then proceeded to sit down and have a wash as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened!

Thinking of all our poorly friends and hope you feel better soon.

Steph, I hope you enjoy your Christmas crafting once you get started, I am sure you will with all of Sue's inspiration
Pam , happy crafting with your new dies. Thanks for the hugs.
My thoughts and good wishes are with all those affected by the hurricane and my heart aches for all those caught up in conflicts around the world. We are so lucky here and sometimes forget to appreciate that.
Cold still not out in full force but I am getting occasional ear ache and talking is getting harder. Mum and Daughter are meeting up today instead but obviously I don't really feel up to going and Mum doesn't want my germs.
Hoping to craft as I would like to do a technique recipe book, nothing to do with cooking just an aide memoir for techniques.
Hope Mick, Tracy, Wheely, Laine, PP are all ok.
Sending love n hugs to you all xxx

  88. Good afternoon lovely Sue and her crafty crew!

My favourite day of the week, Christmas twofers. I just love them! Today's cards are quite contemporary in design, clean and simple, perfect for batch making and really economical to make with only a few dies needed to create the look. The pixie powder background is predictably gorgeous, the colours are really eye catching and suit the frosty, wintery feel of the snowflake die. I can't decide upon a favourite, they are both tremendous in their own right though I do like the glittered aperture in card one.
I'm very excited about tonight's show, I will be getting whatever is on offer, that's a promise, because I haven't bought any of the remaining dies from the collection...it means that I will have all but two dies from the release which some may say is excessive but I would say is completely essential if I want to have full and varied festive cards this year:-) I'm looking forward to the demos and some more expert inspiration for the many cards I will be required to make...nothing beats a live demo, they explain the processes in a way that the written word never can. Hope you're all fully prepped Sue, that's half the battle because it's such a long busy day of shows for you.
Had a busy day yesterday, updated my iPad to the new 12.9" iPad pro....very pleased with the change but didn't properly transfer my data/magazine subscriptions so now I've lost two years worth of Scrapbook Magazine, which is now out of print:-( I'm really upset, but it's my own stupid fault, I should have let the expert at o2 sort me out but I thought that it would be more straightforward. Still familiarising myself with it but it has a keyboard so that means a much cleaner screen for me.
June, I do hope your sniffles disappear in time for your operation...my sinuses are still keeping me awake too....try to get plenty of rest in preparation if you can. Never have liked the flu jab, I haven't had it the past two years because of the side effects, they can be quite unpleasant but not a patch on the real thing though I guess. Hugsxxx
June H, how awful not being able to bathe or wash your hair, that's a fate worse than death for me...a good strong deodorant will do the trick though, and some heavy duty perfume:-)
Tina, glad Peter is more comfortable and you got the treatment you wanted in the end, have a nice weekend.
Lorraine, hope you feel well enough to see your mum soon, crafting is always a good alternative though:-)
Frances, my mum had her jab last week and apart from a dodgy arm, had no ill effects so be brave:-) Loved your story about the catxxx
Pam, enjoy playing with your New Arrivals, I haven't bought them yet, concentrating on festive dies just now, but they are top of my wish list.Hugsxxx
Bejay, you really did need to see a doctor if you were experiencing dizziness and nausea, that must have been some impact! Do get some help if the symptoms persist....how's the little kitten settling in though? What colouring is she?
Yvonne, hoping things are going well with your parents visit, have you made them scabby roasties and brownies?....I'm jealous:-)
Sending love to all my besties, hope that you are all well, enjoy Sues shows girlsxxx

  107. After over five days of early mornings and very late nights of concentrated parchment crafting, it is now backto relative peac and time to read the blogs I have hardly managed to find time to read over those five days!! Although one of my fellow psrchers is staying with me for a couple of nights before Wendi g her way back to Hereford and another coming over ttomorrow for a day of crafting and nattering (including exploring the latest of your dies I have acquired) the peace won't be total till Monday!!

Me thinks, Sue, that you are liking these Pixie Powders (something else I have on the list to show tomorrow) as you showed on the last show I was able to watch and by these two lovely cards. Now to catch up with tonight's show before a slightly earlier night!!

    Have fun tomorrow!

  108. Hi Sue. I was not able to see your show at 8:00 tonight so I thought I would watch the replay at 10:00, but it is not on!!! I will try to catch up on Hochanda.
Today's cards are really great, the very things to get me in the mood for making Christmas cards over the weekend.

  109. Hi Sue. Two beautiful Christmas cards today !!! I was lucky enough to watch John Lockwood demonstrating yesterday at Swanley and he was making cards using the Pixie powders. It was the first time I had seen them in action. They are very bright !!! I was unsure of them at first but I think they are starting to grow on me !!! I love the aperture with the glitter underneath from the first card ( I find a whole background piece covered in Pixie powders a bit on the bright side for me ) and the coloured snowflakes with the white background ( which I prefer as it is less bright ) and the beautiful "warmest wishes" die from the second card !!! So I love bits from both cards !!! Thank you for sharing your beautiful Christmas cards today. I loved your Christmas show tonight on Hochanda. The two cards you made were both gorgeous and you were so inspiring !!! I am going to use ideas from both of these cards tonight on my Christmas cards Sue so thank you very much. I have been a bit naughty and ordered your Ornate Holly Peace Oval Frame die set and your Bold Snowflake Frame die set after seeing your show tonight !!! I can't wait to see what you make using them tomorrow. Sending lots of love to you today Sue from Tres x x x

  113. Very interesting way to use the negative portions of dies. Love what you did with them.

  114. Hello Sue and all
Love the background but I think the simplicity of number two wins for me today. Double days are so good to see different ways of using your dies and even using all the bits to make more cards.

  117. I love the pixipowder-cards. I have finally given in and ordered 10 different colours of pixiepowder. Unfortunately they didn't have any gold, but I'll order that later. I am SO looking forward to playing with them :)
