Just Because

Hello crafters!  I had wanted to demo this card as the technique is nice, but I ended up using a frame around it that wasn't on the shows so opted against it.  I will do my best to explain it though.  I started by covering a piece of card with a sticky adhesive sheet (I think I used black card, but it won't show so any colour will work).  I peeled the backing off and gilded it with Persian Dawn Gilding flakes.  Out of that piece, I cut the Sydney die shape.  I find it easier to do this rather than gilding the delicate dies, and there is another piece left with the negative shape that can be used in another card too.  Next I covered a piece of acetate with a sticky adhesive sheet.  You do need to lay it down so as not to capture a load of air bubbles, so I find that starting at one end and pushing towards the opposite end works best.  Next I peeled the other half of the backing paper off and laid the Sydney face down in the centre.  I covered the remaining exposed adhesive with Iced Snow so it becomes encapsulated under the acetate.  Now the acetate is turned so it is the front of the card.  I cut a double layered frame using both of the Double Pierced Square Noble die sets.  I placed them over the acetate, centring the die in the middle of the frame.  To the top side of the acetate, I cut the centre of the Maggie die and used the edge from the Happy Birthday Circle and glued it to the centre of the die.  I stamped my tag and cut it out with the tag from the Lauren die and mounted it across the centre of the die.  I added a pieced white mat and another final mat to complete the card.  The finished dimensions are 8" x  8" in size.  All for now, Sue x

  13. Morning Sue.
What a way to start the week. The way you've built up the frame makes it look like one of those wooden box frames, and with the 'pesky' building flakes being hugged by all that bling, all I can say is scrumptious.
I do have one request if you don't mind Sue. You know when you write the instructions for this type of framed card, would it be at all possible to tell us which frame from which set you use - e.g. - ( 2nd frame in from set A plus 4th frame in from set B )
I am really hopeless at working these frames out and spend so much time frustrating myself and waste so much card trying to figure it out I just wondered if you could help those of us that 'can't get it' by telling us which frame you used. I'm just worried that my lack of confidence with these sets will stop me from trying to work it out and i'll have 2 sets of dies that become redundant that I've saved hard for. I do hope you don't mind me asking. Sorry.

Sending my daily hugs to you Sue xx

  74. Morning, Sue,
Just checking my stash...I've got sticky sheets, gilding flakes, sparkles and card...what don't I have...the Sydney die. I need to remedy that as fast as possible. However, I do have a couple of dies that I can use instead so I think I'm going to see if I can replicate this wonderful card. Of course, it's me talking so it's not going to turn out anything like the original but I'm sure I'm going to have fun giving it a try :). It's totally stunning, Sue and a lovely start to the week.

To all my other blog friends and Sue, I've missed you loads, I need to read back if possible xxx

I've been AWOL due to an important mission, my little sister wanted help with a costume for her model for a hair dressing competition the young apprentices do. She designed it, had the donor costume but she can't sew. Step forward "ancient half sister" to save the day. It took 8 hours over 9 days. My sister did all the die cutting with some deep dish dies (she enjoyed that, Future crafter?) And she was really impressed with the set up of levers I use to control my sewing machine speed pedal with my arm (future sewer... Or closet engineer? Lol) she was around for about 3 of the hours. In between an hour here and a couple of hours there I was flat out, mostly asleep, not used to sitting up for so long. The final day, yesterday, I did three hours sitting up, sod the pain, get it done! Was given a stunning bunch of flowers to say thank you- I don't get flowers often so had to take the paint brushes out of the vase first! I think from the moment they left with the costume yesterday I felt every nerve in my lower body but when I got a text today with a picture of the 2 girls grinning ear to ear, it was all worth it.

Doing it took up what time I usually have to do the stuff I like, including coming on the blogs and what little craft I achieve. Today has been a bit of a medicinal blur and it won't be playtime yet as I have to do some boring grown up stuff. Like you do. Fingers crossed my brain gives me a few days respite as I just want it done.

I'm very tired so I am going to put Billy out for his final look round the garden and we're both off to bed.

To EVERYONE... Big hugs and happiness all round, I got extra if they're needed and you're welcome to it all :-) wishing you all a great day tomorrow. Happy crafting,

    T x

  131. Fabulous card. So elegant. I don't have the Sydney die so I'll to see if I've got another that will make a suitable substitute so I can play with the gilding flakes.
    Take care everyone.

  132. Love your beautiful techniques here. Great idea to cover entire piece with gilding flakes to leave you with a negative for another project and not fuss with delicate intricate cuts. Such a pretty arrangement of dies and I love the sparkle of the iced snow. Lovely work as always!

  137. Hi Sue
Another stunning 'Sue' creation which looks very posh & expensive & has that 'Less is more' feeling to me which I really like.
Love the colours of the gilding flakes & the frame makes this card really stand out.
    Love it.
