Mica and Ice

Hello bloggers!  Today's video card is actually a twist on my Fire and Ice Technique that the talented Julia Watts came up with!  I liked it so decided to have a go at it myself!  It gives a softer sort of look that I think will be a nice addition to your crafty arsenal.

The finished dimensions are 8" x  8" in size.  All for now, Sue x

  23. Morning dear Sue.
I remember admiring this technique when I first saw it on your show, and considering the love hate relationship I have with guilding flakes, this seems the perfect idea for a wedding card that's just been ordered but keep it white, almost like a white mother of pearl with added iced snow. It really is a beautiful card highlighted with a really lovely subtle but eye catching background to work with. Will refresh my brain later when I watch your tutorial.

Hope you have a nice day Sue xxx

  41. Hi Sue & lovely Wilsonettes***an elegant & simply divine card for us today Sue that is so pleasing to the eye. Adore the effect of the Mica powders & the bling combined which in turn gives this a somewhat luxurious chic look of the 1920’s/1930’s, (methinks*Lol) the colours used together are purely dazzling & set the background off a treat. I think our talented Julia will be tickled pink that you have recreated her amazing technique & that you have contributed to it a wonderful justice. I’m ashamed to say that I stashed my Vintage gold/silver away in the Xmas drawer, why? I ask myself would I do these 2 beautiful textured & coloured card such an injustice by tucking them away, out they come to the forefront of my stash to once again be admired & used throughout the year. Thank you Sue for bringing me to my senses & showing us, in your wonderful tutorial, just how simple but enormously effective this technique truly is x x x

Some of you may remember, from last year, the traumatic & detestable care our Lauren & Hannah received from dog sitters that we had hired from a company we have used for some years. Well after a lot of searching, mainly Mr B, we believe we have found a lovely couple to take care of them in the future, they are tremendously animal orientated, have a lot of love & care to give them & they were utterly appalled at the disgraceful treatment of our girls & our home. We have had 2 meetings with them here at home & we are due to meet here again in just over a week, their suggestion in order to rebuild our trust in leaving the girls with someone new, but so far it is looking really positive as they are lovely & we have no doubts about them coming to sit with the girls on 9th for AP. Needless to say I will probably worry like a mother hen but so long as I refrain from phoning them every 5 minutes Lol then I think all will be okay x

A sincere THANK YOU to all the lovely Wilsonette friends for your messages of kind thoughts over the loss of a much missed colleague, it is greatly appreciated. Although everyone is doing their best to keep things as normal as possible for the children there is, understandably, a sadness all round. I think we all have that special look that says you or I are bubbling up to cry at any moment but we cannot & we fight it back for the children’s sake. One child even said “I wish you could bring her back for me Mrs B”, oh gosh thought I , how do I get out of this one without bubbling, ask the child to remember & talk about the things they loved most about her. It worked as her memories had us both smiling with a few little giggles to boot x x x

TRACEY* hope things are going well with the new bathroom & you are getting yourself plenty of rest x x x LYNDA*(((HUGS)))for you my friend & hope that the bruising is subsiding to leave you more comfortable. Love to you x x x Sending Love & (((HUGS))) to my dear friends LAINE & YVONNE, hope you are both okay x x x x x DAWN* my thoughts are with you & your family & pray that you will have the strength to support each other through difficult times ahead. Take care & keep your crafty wish list open, you never know x x x

Well I must dash off for now. To all who need a hug, I have oodles to spare so please just help yourself. Take care my friends have a lovely day & love ‘n’ (((HUGS))) each one of you, whether absent or not & of course Love ‘n’ (((HUGS))) to you Sue & your family Beth B x x x x x

Great video and a wonderful card! So...off to the craft room I go to check on supplies
    mica powder - check
    sticky sheets - check
    diamond sprinkles - check
    striplet dies - !?!?!?!?

More and more I'm finding that my craft world is like a desolate piece of wasteland with no striplet dies to bring life to it...I really NEED to get my act together (phew, nearly typed something else there) and order a couple. I have the lattice window on my wish list and it looks like it's going to be joined by the octagonal pretty soon :)

What a stunning card for me to come back to after my couple of days off! Have not yet watched the video but can't wait as I think that this technique is one I could use for so many cards with a variation of colours to suit!
Big hugs and lots of love to you Sue x
Apologies for my absence over the last couple of days. My saga with the council and their robbing me of too much money on Monday, took it's toll. I was worn out on Tuesday and a friend came round to cheer me up as she knew I was feeling really frustrated but slowly but surely the fatigue crept in and yesterday was a knackered and out of action day. Much better today and the sun is shining and the sky is lovely and blue and it is a lovely sight to behold as I look out of the window.
Only 2 more sleeps til our holiday on the beautiful Isle of Wight and I am really looking forward to it. However I know that the internet connection is not the best where we are staying so am slightly worried at the prospect of not being able to log onto the blog for a week. Cold turkey is never a good thing and I will have to exercise all my will power to stay calm and console myself that soon Sue will be on our screens in exactly 15 more sleeps. This will have to be my motivation.
TINA E - still very much in my thoughts. Sending you lots of love x
    MARIA - hi honey - I'm ok - lots of love x
JUNE - a belated Happy Anniversary - my word 58 years. Lots of love x
TRACY - I hope that the excitement is getting you through the messy stage of the proceedings x
LINDA - hope you are feeling more like yourself? Lots of love x
LORRAINE - how you doing hun? Big huggles x
LYNDA - hope you are feeling brighter. Gentle hugs x
KITTY - Big big congratulations. Baby hunks are a dream. Lots of love x
JAN D - hello you - sending you (and hubby if that's ok) love and hugs. Nice to have you back x
DAWN - sending you lots of love - always a shock to hear that news. Hang in there x
BETH B - I am so sorry to hear the desperately sad news about your friend and colleague. So unfair and leaving us wondering why and not finding the answers. Remembering her with smiles and laughter is a wonderful idea and speaking from experience I think will help the children. On a much brighter note I am thrilled that you he found suitable foster carers for the girls. Hopefully a huge relief and a godsend as Ally Pally is fast approaching. Sending you a big hug x
LAINE - I need to address your rather derogatory comments aimed at me! Sue's favourite - you - dream on. If you think that the amount of time spent on the blog is the qualifying factor for being in Sue's good books then your imagination exceeds colourful. Surely you must know in your heart of hearts that it is the quality of the comment that counts and not the quantity. Let's face it, you spout so much drivel that it is obvious that the majority of what you say should be disregarded. So it still stands that I remain the number one and Sue's favourite and you do not even rate in her top 50!!!! Lol. My holiday has been planned round Sue's Hochanda appearance and your suggestion of my getting my priorities wrong are completely unfounded. And another thing - if you think that my boys should cancel their trip and stay at home when you come and stay then I have news for you. I know that they are less likely to be led astray in Amsterdam than spending time with Aunty Lorraine. And for the record my GIFT (not bribe) of confectionary was in return for all the fabulous gifts that Sue gives us every day. What have you ever given her after everything she has done? - I rest my case x
Ok off to start thinking about things that need to be done before my departure across the water to sunnier climates!!
Hope the sunshine is with you as it is with me.
Take care everyone. Sending you happy thoughts, warm smiles and lots of love.
    Crafty hugs

  106. What a beautiful card I missed yesterday Sue, just gorgeous. Postcard has a special place in my heart as I have a copy of it made by your own fair hands when at Hochanda. So it made me smile to see it. I have all the ingredients to make it in a slightly different colour way so hope to emulate very soon.
Beth B, my heart goes out to you. Condolences to all concerned.
Yvonne, have a wonderful holiday my dear.
Laine, just lol at your cheeky comments.
Well I was already to settle down to sort out my meal plans etc. only to find that I left part of the filing system in the shop. Somehow it didn't get put through the checkout so that was rather frustrating.
I have decided to get a different type of chair to sit at the table for crafting. I will not give in.
Love n hugs all round xxx

  110. Love this card, Sue, great technique of Julia's for the background and a lovely choice of metallics. Actually have some mica powders at last so could attempt something similar, perhaps with micro beads. Thanks, as ever, for the video.
Dawn Holben - oh my, hope that you can weather the storm, what a shock. Sometimes life has a way of of sorting things for the better when you think that disaster has struck. Chin up, onward and upward!!
Hugs to all who need one - esp Beth B and lovely Tracy.

  118. Sue this card is gorgeous and I loved it when I saw it in a magazine a little while ago.
I made one with an alternative die of yours using the mica powder but didn't use the glitter which I now wish I had done as your one is so much prettier.
I loved making this one though and loved the results that the mica powder gives.
Another fabulous and pretty card you have designed and another fab video, Thankyou.

  120. Good evening lovely Sue and her crafty crew!

Yeah! I've actually managed to watch today's fabulous tutorial before I comment so just for a change I feel that I can give my appraisal with some confidence and insight. The fire and ice technique is by far one of my favourites so substituting the gilding flakes with mica powder....thanks Julia....was always going to be a winner for me. The finished results are characteristically opulent, sparklicious and textural to the touch, a real triumph! I'm pleased to report that I have all of the necessary elements today to recreate this little gem with pastel mica powders and bakers twine, though I feel that a purchase of some metallic twine and mica powders is imminent also....it would be rude not to after all the thought and effort you have put into designing the original:-) can I just Thankyou for creating the flag tags, they have been a godsend to my crafting, I use them so much that they are in danger of going on strike over unreasonable hours!
I've had a middling day today...why? I hear you say! Has the weather been miserable? No, it's been unseasonably mild and sunny.....Has Darcey kept you up all night again? No, she was a really good girl and went straight to bed last night!....Did Brodie ruin another craft project? No, he just sat down at a distance and watched for a change!....Did Brad Pitt stand you up on your date last night?Well, yes but even that's not the reason for my dreary day.....I'm actually in mourning because the shop that I occasionally went to for craft goodies and to scrapbook is out of business:-( I hadn't been for about 18 months because of ill health but I had decided that I would like to start scrapbooking again so I gave them a call and the number has been disconnected and a friend tells me that they have closed. I'm really sad because scrapbooking is such a social pastime and I miss going to crops....I find it really hard to motivate myself to get out all my paraphernalia at home and do it alone with nobody to bounce ideas from, besides being in a shop with every paper and embellishment on hand was useful too. I got so much pleasure going to weekly card classes and crops but the recession has destroyed these small businesses in my area, I wish I lived near CE Towers or in a county where craft shops are ten a penny. So much is internet driven nowadays but you lose the personal, social aspect of crafting.

Beth, yes, I remember those dreadful dog sitters and how distressed Lauren and Hannah were after their experience. It seems to me that you are doing everything humanely possible to ensure their well being this time round but it still must fill you with dread entrusting them to someone else. Try not to let it spoil your time at Ally Pally, I'll be with you in spirit and hopefully we can go together in Septx
Lorraine, I'm glad that I can bring a smile to someone's face, if you were to pay any attention to my family and Yvonne's opinions you would find little humour in my musings:-)
Yvonne I was In two minds as to whether I should respond to you vicious character assassination after all it merely comes from a sad, desperate, bitter and lonely place but I feel that after reading a similar outburst from last week that had passed me by I should offer you a little advice. It's not big and it's definitely not clever....though you do try in vain to be.....to attempt to pull apart another persons character and good name simply because they are younger, thinner, more attractive, cleverer and infinitely more popular than you. Yes, it is unfortunate that we aren't all blessed with near perfection but it serves no purpose other than to make you unpleasantly bitter to deride me at every turn. I'm in danger of overstepping my word limit so I'll split this comment Sue, I'm sorry

  122. Here goes, Rather than being angry with you, I find myself feeling a bit sorry because we could have been such good friends if you hadn't felt so threatened and inferior. The issue of Sues favourite is a touchy subject and will clearly be put to the test when I eventually get to meet her in person. Whilst i am aware that you have already attempted to sully my good name with her, she is a smart enough cookie to see that my dedication to her blog and her good self comes from a good place and isn't creepy, sinister or indeed obsequious in nature, unlike other who shall remain nameless:-)
Anyway, in light of my impending visit, should we perhaps call a truce lest our fellow bloggers think that we actually don't like each other?
Sorry friends for taking up too much of your time but I felt that an intervention was needed for the good of Yvonne's sanity:-)
Loads of cuddles my friends....I do hope you don't mind a little light hearted banterxxxxx
