Dotted Technique

Hi crafters!  I know this isn't my usual sort of card, but I wanted to show you a different option for adding interest to your cards.  Before my love of piercing took over, I used to finish my cards this way quite a bit.  I dare say that you might even find a bunch with this sort of look at the early days of my blog too!  I have chosen black, white and blush so it will show up well, but you can use this technique on any colour palette and it works great!

The finished dimensions are 7 1/2" x  8 1/2" in size.  All for now, Sue x

  12. Going dotty, Sue! Really admire your patience but so glad to have the nobles! Interesting non-symmetrical card and great colours. Bit of deja vu here. Thanks for the video; love your top - a good colour co-ordination with the GC lol.
Steph - thanks for the pointer to Tina E - unbearably sad.
Barbara Macaskill - after your earlier comment, have wondered how you were coping with the situation. Do hope things not too awful. Chin up, better days ahead for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Hi Sue
Oh wow. This technique makes for such a striking result. I am suitably intrigued as to how you have achieved it so I am going to put the video to the top of my catch up list. You say it is not your usual type of card but I have to say it definitely has some give away Sue traits about it. Lots of love Sue x
Had planned to do quite a few little jobs today but I am feeling a little out of sorts so think I may just sit and watch Sue videos and John on Hochanda. I think that will sort me out - lol x
Little disappointed that the sun has decided not to play today so no washing has made it outside knowing that it's fate is to be roughly caressed and sniffed to within an inch of it's life. I know I seem a little obsessed with drying my washing outside but I hate it when my smalls are on display over radiators for all to see!!!
LAINE aka THELMA - my likening us to Thelma and Louise was more along the lines of personality as oppose to looks. That said I do admire your complete disregard for reality in your thought process. You carry on thinking that you are far superior if it keeps you happy. And for the record my children were very considerate and stretch marks were not part of the equation. I will admit to a little sagging in recent years due to a weight increase and a much larger bust size than I would like. This is something that I am not terribly happy with but am constantly being told that if you have it flaunt it and that they are magnificent. So your bitterness has fallen on deaf ears. Oh and for the record - my 'babies' spoilt me rotten on mothers day and it did no take bribing them with M & S prawns - can you say the same???!!! I think not x
BARBARA - sending you a big hug - from your comment yesterday it sounds like you need one x
LINDA - glad you were spoilt too - think the spending a fortune thing is a boy thing. Their dad was like that. I have given up telling them that I am quite happy with just a card as it seems to make them happy x
ALISON - I have only just managed to catch up with Scamp's antics - glad that she is getting better. When I miss a few days on the blog I tend to try and read back over the comments but brain fog gets the better of me after quite a short space of time so I miss things x
TRACY - rest up - Hochanda's TV schedule is pretty good today so at least resting will have a welcome distraction x
TINA - sending you lots of love and hugs on your Birthday and Anniversary. I am so sorry that hubby is in hospital. Take care x
Ok think I will have a bath and then settle down with a cuppa and one of the big boxes of chocs I got for Mothers Day and watch Sue and John back to back x
Take care everyone - sending you all lots of love.

  81. Hello there Sue. Talk about 'boss eyed' I so admire your patience doing alll those dots, AND in a straight line too, what a woman lol. There stands the reasoning behind the pierced dies, and I for one now have happier hand joints thanks to that set of dies and more time spent starting another card rather than biting my lip, taking a break from the piercing ruler to massage my painful joints, so all in all I have to admit you've moved on somewhat lol.
A lovely combination of colours used today to make your lovely dots gone mad card.

P in Wales, your very welcome. I know Tina and all the family will be overwhelmed by the kind messages left on her blog. I can't even begin to imagin how they must be feeling I just want to hug them so much.

  86. Hi Sue, love the design of this one but much as I like the blush card I would certainly have to use another colour palette, probably navy or plain chocolate brown. I have a fairly steady hand but still used to use a ruler for faux stitching and dots like this, you have my admiration for doing them freehand and keeping them so even.

Nanna Tine - I hope you enjoy your birthday and anniversary, plenty of time for proper celebrations when hubby is home again.

Barbara M - I'm sure your new world will be better than the old because you can make it what you want. Hope you are ok.

  97. Good afternoon lovely Sue and her crafty crew!

Wowzers! Boy do I lurve this card, everything about it sings to me so sweetly. Using black in any card is a winner to me cos I think that it is just so chic, but pairing it with blush has elevated to spectacular! It has been many years since I did faux stitches....mainly because I sucked at them, I couldn't quite do them perfect enough....but shall I be tempted by this little beauty to search out my....dried up?....gel pens? I think so! This card is going straight in my super duper must do Sue folder for a time when I have the pierced square nobles....sometime this Millenium I trust......it is an absolute cert that I will be trying it out for myself. I haven't had a moment to watch the video yet but as soon as I have a spare minute I will, with pleasure.
Another busy morning what with making my self less scary to the neighbours and postman and attempting yet another rice pudding...currently wafting it's fumes around the house like a vanilla infused comfort blanket, mmmm........whether it tastes as good as it smells will be up for discussion later, my mum is notoriously hard to please since she doesn't like too much sugar or nutmeg??!!!well she won't be to happy then because I put in 50% more sugar than the recipe and dropped half a nutmeg in the boiling milk and couldn't find it again....well! she can't crack a tooth cos she wears false teeth:-) wish me luck ladies!
Yvonne, ye of strange sniffing fetishes, whilst I am willing to concur that your reference to Thelma and Louise was based purely on character alone is it not quite ironic that we share so many other qualities of the ladies? Age difference check!, looks check! Luck with Brad Pitt check!, not to mention characters check! I do admit to being easily influenced by my more wayward elders, I am rather impressionable and slightly naive, prone to be led astray into a life of crime potentially whereas you are clearly the older, wiser manipulative criminal renegade looking for a partner in crime to take the heat. Isn't it sad that BCAS has been disbanded, we could have achieved world domination with my looks and brains and your twisted evil streak:-)
Celebrate your admirable mammaries, they may come in handy because I'm sadly lacking in that department.....
Barbara, I'm so sorry to hear that life has thrown you some cruel curve balls, anything it can do to take the pressure off or help you to forget is my honour....not everyone can appreciate my sense of humour, I'm encouraged to hear that you, Linda, and Maureen find something to smile about over my daily verbal assaultxxxx
Alison, Scamp can be forgiven for forgetting Mothers Day this year given her incarceration, my two had more than ample opportunity to find me something that adequately reflected my importance to them:-(
    Lorraine, hope you are wellxxxx
Linda, glad you were spoilt on Sunday, you deserve itxxx
Tracy, nothing wrong with a few duvet days after a taxing weekend, enjoy!
Cuddles to Pam, P, Maria, Theresa, Rebecca, Wheely bad, Melody, Beth and Deb cxxxxxx
Hugs to all you lovely ladies and most of all Suexxxx

Barbara, you sound amazingly upbeat. Well done you and I wish you all the very best.
    Tracy, take care my dear.
Yvonne, Wheely and Laine huggles my dears.
I am feeling a bit better again today and have managed to shower so I am sure my family will appreciate t.
My eldest daughter was very neglected on Mother's day whereas she spoilt me and my Mum. I think it is disgraceful how she is treated by her family. I hope next year I will remember to get her something . My eldest son did not send a card or present but I think it's because he would rather treat me to something when he visits but a card would have been good.
I am hoping to get back to crafting very soon.
Sending love to Sue, Tina E, Melody, Francis and Molly.
Wishing good things to all xxx

Your Dotted Technique shows you have more patience than I. One does get a dramatic look doing these dots around a card layer, especially if using white ink on dark card. I think I will stick to your Piercing method and your Pierced dies! Thanks for the video. Your videos are always so helpful to me.

  102. Hi Sue

Wow! What a wonderful effect... I dread to think how long it took. It's funny how seeing "old" techniques on new products gives them a whole other look. The card is stunning- as was yesterday's. It had a very timely sentiment too. I hope you're OK Sue, sending hugs xxx

Tina E and family, in my thoughts always xxx

Nanna Tina, happy birthday and anniversary. I hope hubby gets better very soon and you can both celebrate properly, big hugs to both of you XXX

Barbara, I loved your comment today. You go, girl! Big hugs xxx

Lorraine F, I've not made a card since before Christmas either. Ideally, I need to do 2 for this weekend and 1 for next. Truthfully I'm dreading it as it takes me such a long time and I know I'll have plenty of "creative diversions" (or "cock ups", as they're otherwise known). I do hope you start to feel better soon as you've had a hard time of late, take care, big hugs xxx

Lynda, big hugs from Billy and myself to you and the furry and feathery friends XXX

Alison, big hugs to both you and Scamp xxx

Laine, I sucked at faux stitching too! My problem is I like things to be millimetre perfect so techniques like that and today's amazing dots drive me crazy! Going to pin and try it nonetheless! I'm sure your fur babies gave you love and appreciation in their own way on Sunday! Big hugs xxx

Theresa W, thank you, I've been lucky last few days so been getting things done in between rests. I've felt it creeping up on me today so been trying to get things done before it hits, big hugs, hope you're OK too xxx

Yvonne G, lovely to see the sparring between you and Laine, you both crack me up! Big hugs xxx

New tyres have made such a difference. It's like my wheelchair has become version 2.0! Super sticky rubber making some very odd noises on my kitchen floor though lol but so much easier to get around the house. Had lovely time with my best friend Saturday, she was on her own as her mum hasn't been well. Billy was very confused at first, dashing round the house looking for his doggy friend who usually turns up with his auntie. This wasn't an issue for long as he soon realised that it meant having auntie all to himself. He lapped fusses from both of us while we talked. We're going to see Alice Cooper in London in June, we're staying in a hotel together for the night, having as close to a girlie weekend away as two not girlie people can have! That's my big job in the next day or so, to book the hotel. Need a lay down now as I feel pressure building in my head, and it would be nice to be reasonably with it when Mr W gets home...! He needs to vent after work which I don't mind at all as he does so much, it's the least I can do really.

A big squishy hug to everyone, I got plenty set by if you need extra! Wishing you all a great week and happy crafting,

    T x

  107. Hi Sue

I seemed to have lost a few days again. I am now on antibiotics for a week so hope to feel better soon at last. I think you're right Yvonne, I could do with another holiday.

Nice card today. I bought a new white gel pen last year after seeing one of your videos (used on flowers I think) but still haven't used it. At least it shouldn't be dried up yet.

Happy Birthday and Anniversary Tina. Sorry to hear Hubby is in hospital, I hope he gets well soon, and you can celebrate belatedly.

    Love Helen xxx

  109. Hello Sue
What a spectacular card today, it really is striking.
Laine, do you use evaporated milk in with your ordinary milk when making rice pudding? I've just finished using the last of my mam's whole nutmegs, and she died in 1980. This is true, and they were perfectly fine. As soon as they were grated, the smell was amazing, but please note that it is better to grate them, rather then drop them whole into the uncooked pudding!!!! lol.
Love to all who are in pain in any way, and to carers.

  110. Hi Sue,

I really like this card. So different from your norm, your choice of colours are
nice, but I would like to use hues of purple, lilac and something else.

    Will watch the video later

  111. Hiya Maureen,

I use full fat Jersey Milk, vanilla extract and grated pods....from Sainsbury's......and preferably grated nutmeg:-)
Tragedy was averted with the whole nutmeg, I managed to fish it out when I portioned out the servings so hopefully it hasn't infused the milk too much:-( I never thought about using evaporated milk, it sounds lovely. I don't know the shelf life of nutmeg but I'm guessing as long as it's still whole it will last ages....can you die from nutmeg poisoning? Let's hope it doesn't go toxic because we've had ours quite a few years too!:-)
Forgot to say congrats to nana Tina, hope you have a lovely day, maybe you could have a proper celebration when hubby gets home, something to look forward to.....xxxx
Hugs to Tina E too, and your daughter, hope you're managing to find a way to cope with your lossxxxx
Sorry about the second comment Sue, hope it's not illegal:-)

  124. It is great to go back in our archives and find something that inspires you. Your card is lovely! Those glue dots really give it dimension. The blush black and white are so classic! Beautiful black pearls...CoCo Chanel said you are not dressed until you put on your pearls!
