Christmas Double Day

Hello crafters!  Up first is one of my favourite Christmas cards, it is just so different!  I started by creating the background using Holly Sprays cut out of vintage gold card and black card.  I covered a piece of coconut white card with a sticky adhesive sheet.  I peeled the backing paper off and laid the holly sprays around the edge.  I trimmed the edges then coated the remaining exposed adhesive with Diamond Sprinkles.  For the focal element, I cut a frame out of silver card using the Ornate Pierced Design Nobles.  I cut a thin black edge and glued it to the frame.  I added mounting foam to the back and seated the frame over a piece of gold card.  I cut the St. Lucia die in black and glued it to the centre of the frame.  I stamped my sentiment then cut a gold frame to go over it.  I cut a thin silver frame to accent the gold frame and glued it into place, then seated the frame in the middle of the St. Lucia die.  I completed the card with a white pierced mat, thin silver, gold and black mats and another wider white mat.  The finished dimensions are 7 1/2" x  8 1/2" in size.  Scroll down for card number two.

For card number two, I reached for some decorative script paper from my stash.  I covered it with a sticky adhesive sheet, then coated it with micro beads for texture.  I cut all three of the Deer family out of brown card and highlighted them with tea dye distress ink while still in the die.  I cut small pieces of black card to glue behind the open filigree area to make them more solid.  I cut several of the Winter Trees out of green card then highlighted them with Forest Moss distress ink before removing them from the dies.  I glued the trees and deer to the lower portion of the card, adding mounting foam to the two larger deer to raise them.  I cut the Merry Christmas die in both brown and black and used the darker one as a shadow, then glued them to the upper portion of the card.  I matted the card in milk card, using the Ivory PVA glue to make dots around the edge.  I added a thin black mat and a final milk mat to finish it off.  The finished dimensions are 6 1/2" x  8 1/2" in size.

I am launching a new One Day Special on Hochanda this evening at 8pm.  I do hope that you are able to tune in!  If not, I will have shows at 9am, 12 noon, 4pm and 7pm on Saturday.  All for now, Sue x

  7. Morning Sue and all Wilsonettes, such stunning cards today, they are both so beautiful, it is hard to say which is my favourite out of the two, I think the 'deer' one, it reminds me of where my sister lives in East Sussex and herds of deer roam across her land every day, it is amazing to see them grow and become big and strong and bring into the world deer of their own.

I will definitely be watching Sue, I only wish I could tape them and refer back to them often but it is not to be as I have Virgin Media.

Stay safe, healthy and happy, hugs, June Smith xxx

I have most of these dies now and have used the deer family and the borders and tags and the Christmas trees on most of my cards this year.

I still have 4 special cards to make and I will probably be using the holly as well.

Lots of love and craftihappiness everyone,

Once again, I see something that helps the end user so much....your word dies that have "i's"...you've designed the die so the dot is attached to part of the script so you don't have to bother with those teeny tiny dots as a seperate piece. Love that.

Have a great day and thanks for sharing.

  101. Hi Sue,
Love both of these but I have to say that the second one has won my heart. I love the deer and the trees and the musical backing paper is a winner whatever the card it's used on.
Well, went into town for the first time in almost three weeks this morning. Wouldn't you know that it rained all the time I was there and stopped when I got home again! I managed to get all my Christmas post sent, it cost over £12 so I'm glad it's only once a year lol. I'm now worn out and don't think I'll move for the rest of the afternoon now. I managed to get all my neighbours cards delivered as well, chatting to two of them who were in. Lord, it was weird talking for the first time in over two weeks. It's still pretty croaky but at least I can make myself understood again.
One close neighbour had all her windows and doors changed this morning in the pouring rain! I guess you can't say no when the council truck arrives with all the new stuff. Another neighbour asked when they though work would be done to ours and was told any time between next week and March!! In typical council style, they don't get told to do one street until all the properties are done and they could find out that they have to go to Falmouth on Monday instead of finishing our street here in Truro. I'm just surprised that they have started before Christmas but I guess they have to have it all completed before the end of the financial year. What fun! They are saying that most properties will only have the glazing changed as the frames should be okay. I didn't know they could do it that way so time will tell whether or not I lose the frames or not. I hope they give me a few days warning so that I can get the nets down and all the fixings off...just in case :)
I hope everyone is safe and warm today. Have a great weekend everyone.

  114. Hi Sue, I love the design of the first card and will definitely be creating backgrounds in this way with the holly but I'm afraid I would have to change the colours, it is too dark for me. The second card I absolutely adore. My cards are going out with many a tree and/or a deer or two or three. I love both the trees and the deer family and they will be favourites for years to come.

I'm going to get chores etc out of the way now so I can settle down in front of the TV at 8pm to watch and learn.

  116. Good afternoon lovely Sue and her crafty crew!

Don't you just love twofer Fridays? Sadly, not many to go now though but you have provided me with so much inspiration for my own festive cards that all I feel is gratitude that you work so tirelessly on our behalf. Both cards are outstanding, as if they would be anything less:-) , but I have a soft spot for no. 1 simply because I love using black on a Christmas card....especially with cream, a combination that I hVe used a fair few times this year....I have also used the St Lucia die on my Mums Christmas card, it works beautifully. I love the technique used to create the background, I will definitely be giving this a go sometime soon.
I have also loved using my trees and deer family this year, initially they didn't appeal to me but when I saw the scenic cards you have created with them I fell in love with them. I have really enjoyed creating my cards this year, your dies have made it a pure delight and I know that I have only tipped the iceberg with their versatility and usefulness- I will definitely be bringing them all out again next year even if I have to buy all of your new designs as well:-)
I am super excited about tonight and tomorrow's shows- I guess you'll be feeling nervous at the minute but you needn't be because you are the best demonstrator I have ever seen and an absolute pleasure to watch, you are such a natural. And whilst I can't buy anything on this occasion:-(....I am being REALLY good at the moment with it being so close to Christmas, barring the random act involving a bank heist I will be forced to keep a tight rein on my spending!......I will be glued to every minute of your shows:-)
Sorry I've been absent for a few days, the shock of my uncles death has taken some time to digest, and I'm still a little shell shocked if truth be known:-( Thankyou for the kind condolences, it really helped to be able to share with someone other than my Mum, who is understandably devastated about his passing....she's the youngest of eight and now there is only her and her older brother left, and he's eighty, that's what she is struggling with most of all:-(
I've been trying to keep her busy to help her work through the grief and it seems to be helping a bit but it will take time I guess.
Tracy, glad you got your picc line in successfully, and great that you only have four more treatments left- your attitude is a breath of fresh air and reminds me to look for the bright side of a situation or at least a sense of calm acceptance, and not be consumed by the apparent enormity of our troubles. You meet your challenges with such courage and I admire you greatly for itxxxxHope the sickness eSes soon for you honey!
I haven't had a chance to properly catch up with everyone, I will try to get back on track over the weekend, promisexxx
Huge hugs to all my blog buddies, including Yvonne, Beth, Wheely bad, Maria, Saba, Theresa, Rebecca, Jan, Lorraine F, Melody, Molly and anyone my addled brain has forgottenxxx

  131. Dear Sue a gorgeous couple of christmas cards today. Although I'm not keen on black on Christmas cards I do like your first card it's very classy and sophisticated. I do adore your reindeer card though it's my favourite of the two. I love the trees and reindeer dies you've used and the sentiment cut in brown looks fabulous. I can't make out the microbeads too well as I only have my phone to use at the moment as my tablet computer is being mended.
I'm sorry I've not commented on your fantastic cards recently but I've been a bit distracted with worry as my Annie had an op on her paw today and it's been a couple of weeks waitng and worrying how it would go before the actual day. I have enjoyed seeing your beautiful cards though. The op went fine however so I hope to restart commenting on here a bit more now it's all over bar the recovery.

  134. Good evening Sue and the Wilsonettes,
Sue I absolutely love your first card in the White, gold and black, it is stunning. I just love your holly branches as they are so versatile, making the arms of snowmen perfectly. But back to your delights that you have made for us today by far it has to be number one for me although number two is nice. There again it could be because I have all the dies for making the first card but none to make card number two.. I hope that you had a lovely show on Hocanda tonight and that you have a great response tomorrow as well. Thank you Sue for bringing the beauty that could only be a Sue Wilson original, sorry flower had a very long and tiring painful day so just a short note for you. Wishing all the Wilsonettes that could use a prayer, a hug or just someone thinking of them a better night and day to come,
    With love and crafty hugs

  136. Hello Sue,
Better late than never! I watched the Show this evening on Repeat at 10pm! It was excellent. Lovely demonstrations - really liked the first one! Thank you for endorsing the Platinum machine. I love mine and friends do too. Thanks for sharing different ways to use plates. Much appreciated!
Today's cards are both beautiful but the first is my favourite. I would never have thought of sticking die cuts on double sided sticky sheets if it hadn't been for you. It's a great idea and so effective. Thank you!
Tracy keep up the good work!
Melody I do hope all is well with you. Love to you and all the family.
Love to others going through difficult times.

I do really like the die cut and glittered background on the first one though....

Great to see you back on TV tonight. Beautiful samples, great demos and lots of useful tips. Thank you. Looking forward to tomorrows shows.

  141. I wanted to buy the holly spray die cut, but can't find it? Can you give me the name of the die? The card I saw it on was a card that had pointcettas on top of the spray. white on white. Very beautiful card.
