Wednesday Weekly Card Giveaway

Hi crafters!  Another Christmas demo card is up for grabs today.  If you would like to be entered in the drawing for this one, just leave a comment.  I started by coating a piece of black card with Flake and Glitter glue and allowing it to turn clear (it takes a few minutes), then coating it with Persian Dawn Gilding flakes. I cut a bunch  (about a dozen)of Filigree poinsettias out of the piece.  Next I covered a piece of clear acetate with a sticky adhesive sheet.  I peeled the backing paper off, exposing the adhesive and laid the poinsettias down face first so the gilded side was stuck to the acetate.  I covered the rest of the sheet in Iced Snow so that it filled in all the remaining sticky areas.  I used the Frosty Mini Background die as a template to cut around and cut a black frame for my piece.  I cut two of these to make a double step frame and added mounting foam between the layers and on the back, then attached it over my background.  Next I gilded another piece of card with gold gilding flakes and cut the Noel die out of it.  I cut another one out of black card and offset it behind for a shadow effect.  I glued it in the centre of the frame.  I pierced a white mat layer, then cut a thin gold mat and a thin black mat before adding a final white mat.  The finished dimensions are  7" x  8 1/4" in size.  I will announce the winner on Saturday's blog post.  All for now, Sue x

  1. Lovely card, really like it. It's very striking.
Melody, it is so hard to have to make such choices, but you and Francis have come so far. Whatever choice is made will be the best one for him. Keep strong Melody, he needs your strength right now. All our support is with you.
Tracey, hope your throat is feeling better honey, don't bottle it up, cry if you need to.
    Keep well and safe everyone.

  18. Morning Sue and all Wilsonettes, such a beautiful creation to greet us on this very chilly morning, such warm colours you have created with the gold flakes, having a little bit of black behind the gold on the 'Noel' really does pop it. With your permission I would like to make one similar to this at our craft club.

Stay safe, healthy and happy, hugs, June Smith xxx

  31. Well, Sue, always like the darker side of things but have to say, for me, not keen on the heaviness of the black frame (sorry!) but love the background - think would have gone for a gilded frame, too.
Melody, at least Francis has a choice which has got to be good news, but now the difficult part. Wishing you all well.
    Thoughts for Tracy today.

    2. Oh I'm so sorry for your loss of Spice :( as others have said, it's so difficult losing them. When I'm going thru that, I wonder if it's worth having them in our lives because the pain is so bad when they leave us...I always decide the good out weighs the bad. But that doesn't help when you are in the midst of the bad. Xx

Cheryl hope you're feeling better today xx
Tracy- it does you good to cry and I hope your throat and head are feeling better today! Sending love and hugs and lots of prayers your way xx
Lorraine and P in Wales thank you for the birthday wishes - it was my big birthday last May but we had been unable to go to Edinburgh together until yesterday for one reason or another.
We had a wonderful day - we stayed in the Old Town and went to Palace of Holyroodhouse and also the Parliament where my titanium knee set off the alarm! My only disappointment was the Blackfriars Bobby statue - so small ( but cute) and thought it would be in Blackfriars Kirk. I love the film and actually only watched it a few weeks ago. The weather was fabulous and showed Edinburgh in all of its glory - beautiful city.
Sending love and hugs to everyone especially to those in pain, having treatment or feeling down for any reason. Alison xxxxx

  65. The instructions for making this card are going to have to be perused more than once as there are some techniques that are well worth trying. I too would never have thought to use gilded card to cut out embellishments - not surprising really as I don't have a lot of crafty imagination. The background is beautiful. I would prefer a less heavy black frame but overall, this card is as as beautiful as any I would expect from you. Thank you.

  68. Morning Sue,

Wednesday's giveaway is stunning, love that are so many techniques to try and textures to get messy with.

And the tip on how to make your frame is so simple, I got one of those 'Doh, why I didn't I think of that?' moments. I actually scrapped a card front frame because I didn't have a die set with the exact size that I needed.

Warm thoughts and prayers for Melody,Francis and Tracy in their forthcoming health plans. Whenever you are feeling down, there are many shoulders to cry on and hands to lift and carry you in this wonderful Wilsonette family to help lighten your burden. God Bless you all.

Alimecca, thank you for thinking of me yesterday, I am feeling so much brighter today and I am so very pleased you had a wonderful time in Edinburgh. I too watched the Blackfriars Bobby film, although my viewing was many years ago, I still remember the little dog's love for his master.

Melody - What a choice but at least there is a choice! I'm sure Francis will do what he feels is best. God bless you all at this difficult time.
Alison - I too love Edinburgh ! I didn't love the Scottish Parliament building . I thought it was a real shame to put that across from Holyrood!! I'm an exiled Scot as you know , maybe after that remark I'd better stay in exile! Lol.
Laine - I too, thought your cat was a dog! It was the lead that confused me! At my age it doesn't take much, you know!

Showing us techniques we haven't been introduced to before and making us think outside the box so that we can apply these new skills to our own projects. Thank you. Your generosity is very much appreciated.

  135. Hi Sue, I love the way you have created the background and I agree with others that a blue/silver/snowflake theme would be great also. You see how you inspire us :-)

'P' in Wales - so, so sorry for you. Tears are essential, been there etc so many times but you have to take comfort in knowing that you have done the best by Spice. My old boy is 22 now and has a heart murmur and dementia so I know that I too will have to make the decision in the not too distant future. Extra hugs for you today.

I unfortunately missed your last shows, when you demoed this, Sue as I was away.

'P' in Wales, so sorry you've had to say goodbye to Spice, I know how heartbroken you must be feeling.

  147. Good evening lovely Sue and her crafty crew!

You are an absolute gem dear Sue, you've designed yet another card specifically to co ordinate with my craftroom:-) It's got a black, cream, gold and silver roller blind, black desk&units and black/cream gloss sliding doors so this little beauty would look perfect on my wall, what do you say?:-)
But seriously, I love the colour palette and design of this stunning creation, I can't get enough of your Christmas cards right now, particularly when the festive season is fast approaching...too fast! I am definitely going to give this technique a try, it's gorgeous- and I agree that exchanging the poinsettias for snowflakes would be equally effective. I really like the black frame, it works well with the metallics but then I'm slightly bias given that it matches aforementioned craftroom!
I had the pleasure of another parcel today, this time from Julia Watts my one stop shop for CE essentials. I stocked up on some card, 3D foam, acetate(because you've used it a lot in your cards lately), and a couple of EFs. My friend is coming over tomorrow for a craft afternoon and I'm going to teach her how to create one of your fabulous Christmas cards...with the help of one of your videos of course!
I can't wait to get started but choosing which one of your works of art to recreate is a real problem, I love so many and I don't want to scare her off with anything too challenging. You make everything look so easy but whether I can translate your vision adequately remains to be seen. Breaking news though!..my Mum has agreed to make a card too!!??! I can't believe it! Maybe if I convert her to the dark side she may not mind so much that I've just placed another massive order with Icon.co.uk....I doubt it though:-( I thought about using Beth's hat idea to choose but that was just too random, so I decided to compromise and get a few of the newest release as well as a few more Christmas dies...my bank manager is seething, my credit card is in intensive care and I am soon to follow in a few days when the package arrives and I have to explain it to my Mum:-0.....
Julie, I've been thinking of you a lot today- I sincerely hope your appointment went as well as can be expected under the circumstances. I'm chuffed that I managed to make you smile because in my experience, it can be the best medicine. Beth is indeed a hoot, I love her anecdotes and crazy humour, it complements my own. This is a wonderful blog for meeting so many varied people, I love sharing our daily lives with such caring, empathic ladies, you laugh together and support each other and it is fantastic to behold. I hope that we can all put a smile on your face on those down days when life seems insurmountable as well as share your successes through your treatment dear Julie.xxx
'P', I share your sadness at losing Spice because our babies become valued, much loved family members and parting with them is unbearable. Darceys brother Byron was a big ginger boy so I am quite partial to them too. I lost him in a car accident and the pain of it never goes away...it's why I take Brodie out on a lead....but you did your best for Spice and maybe you can find comfort in the knowledge that he is now pain free and at peacexxx
Melody, I know the decision Francis is facing is frightening, but I am glad that he has a choice and I am sure that he will do what is right for him and all of his loved ones. I hope that you can find some comfort in our love and supportxxx
Yeah, the Apprentice is starting! I love it! Enjoy your evening my lovelies....

Fabulous card. I love the background you have created with your iced snow and gilded poinsettias. I don't get on so well with the iced snow I'm afraid but can appreciate its beauty. I rather like the black frame, feel it adds drama. Hope you are having a lovely time with your mum, say hello to her please.

  162. Hi Sue

I love it, snowflakes are on the list (I have the Spellbinders poinsettia but it's not as nice as yours) so I could do a version of it, or I guess the poinettia stamp could be used at a push. It's such a lovely card and I might well try it out.

Tracy, I hope today went well for you, hope, hugs and positive thoughts your way xxx

P in Wales, so sorry to hear about Spice. I be utterly lost without my Billy. Our pets are so special to us, hugs xxx

Alimecca, glad you had a lovely time in Edinburgh, I've always wanted to go there. Happy belated birthday, sorry I missed the day xx

Melody, I'm so, so pleased Francis has a choice. Choice gives you control but I know this will be a tough decision for him, for you both. Sending hope, hugs and positive thoughts your way and a big hug for Molly, tell her I'm thinking of her too please xxx

Txcowgirl, thinking of you and your family, sending hope, hugs and positive thoughts xxx

Beth, how true... spent very well over £40 end of last month just buying bits, you know, texture paste, glue, card etc. You use the same places I do ;-) I'd better get in quick before they're out of stock lol

Rebecca in CO, Nice to see you back, I've missed your posts ;-) I have the time.. too much of it as too tired for pretty much anything at the minute. Hey, I wonder if Creative Expressions do bottles of the endless energy that Sue, Julia and John seem to have. Seriously, whatever they're on I want some! (especially if it's cake!) Do you want to do a swap, I'll give you some extra time in exchange for some energy to craft! Between us we'd be unstoppable! Hugs xxx

Before I start the craft version of "Crossroad" (the film, based on the legend of Robert Johnson, not that awful 80s daytime soap) with Rebecca I'm going to go to bed. I've been awake for most of the last 12 hours and pleased I got a couple of boring admin-y jobs today, 2nd time in a week! Hoping I'm not about to start a mad hyper and be awake for 40 odd hours so going to grab a cup of chamomile tea before I get under the quilt. Cleaner and PA here tomorrow which wipes me out (cleaner needed to reschedule). Hoping with everything crossed I'll be able to nip by as I want to check up on a few of you and make sure you're ok. If I do, forgive a potentially short message please as last time I had both the help visiting in one day I spent 4 days in bed. Makes me sound so antisocial that having people here exhausts me , both are lovely people, I'm pretty lucky, and yes, I'm trying to turn themm to the dark side of dies being more important than handbags or shoes!

Wishing each of you a Terrific Thursday, with hugs for all, there's plenty there if you need another one! Until I'm back again...

    1. Yes! If only we could buy energy (not of the caffeinated variety - but of the true healthy form) wouldn't it be lovely?! I'm afraid I'm short on that as well as time, but perhaps if I had more time, I'd have more energy! Then we could combine forces and be a crafting force to reckon with!
Are you talking about Robert Johnson the Delta Blues musician? I haven't seen that movie (Crossroads). I am a huge blues fan and his work (only about 21 songs if I remember right) is some of my favorite!!! Enjoy!
