Joy to the World
Hello crafters! Today's video shows a new way to use your PVA glues to create a pretty background for your dies. This would be a good one to do up in advance to make your batch Christmas cards too.
The finished dimensions are 6 3/4" x 8" in size. All for now, Sue x

Hello Sue! I watched the Video first today, and I must say the Background is so different, I don't know about batch cards thats a lot of Glue etc! My annual COPD check today ...not looking forward to that much...nearly blow my ears out with the breathing check! I know I have less Lung Function ! But thats life I suppose! Take care Love Marg
So pretty all in white - as you say all the elements would be perfect for a batch cards production line if you make up the backgrounds, poinsettias and even the Joy to the World panel and then just assemble...
Morning Sue, I love this die this is one of the few I Hvent got yet. I do love the technique and have decided to give it a try bought the cosmic shimmer laquer on Tuesday. Hoping to have time to give this a go today so it will be dry for tomorrow

Vellum, acetate and Sue's video a winning combination. The video is so easy to follow and its one to have a go at. I would much rather craft than housework so have set myself 2 guidelines - if the ceiling seems a bit low or I can write my name in the dust its time to hoover and tidy up! Anyone else think the same!! Best wishes to all jxxx
Another intriguing technique which I must try as it looks so effective. I wonder how it work with another colour other than white....... need to experiment on some acetate scraps. Aah, need to get some lacquer first, another item on my shopping list and I've spent all my birthday money on your new dies. Shucks!

Just watched the video and really enjoyed it. The card is beautiful. I love the effect on the acetate, the die and of course the velum silver tipped poinsettias. Just lovely.

Lovely card, so simple but oh so effective. Haven't got the word die but I'm off to my craft room now to have a go at this. I wonder how long the glue background takes to dry - I suppose I will just have to be patient. Thanks Sue.

Think this main die has the wow factor and is absolutely stunning. I've seen your other card in black, red and white using it and thought that was gorgeous, but this one is equally so. Think the die is a brilliant main feature. Just classy!
Morning, Sue, YAY...a technique where I can get my hands dirty, I love it! I'm thinking perhaps I might prepare an A4 sheet of acetate and then I could get at least 4 card backgrounds out of it. I'm searching my brain for which background dies I can use it with...yes, I know it would be a lot easier to actually go to my 'craft room' (actually the spare bedroom but if I'm paying bedroom tax I'm gonna use it for something other than storage lol) and just look through my storage folder but that would be the sensible way of going about things wouldn't it lol. It's a beautiful sunny morning down here in Cornwall, although it's more than a tad nippy. Earlier on it really looked like autumn with all the early morning dew heavy on the cobwebs in the garden. I actually like autumn, I think it's my favourite season, lots of lovely colours to inspire. Hi to all my fellow Wilsonettes, love and hugs to Melody and Francis. I hope that things will get a bit easier for you both. You are both an inspiration to us all. Bejay x

Hi Sue, beautiful card. Lovely tactile technique, I'd like to see it swirled to see how that looks. Someone on your blog suggested using snowflakes instead of flowers which would be worth trying. A very achievable look as it only uses 2 dies. B xx

Hi Sue, loved the card..I have the die and another of your poinsettia dies so there's nothing stopping me from giving it ago. It's a bit like the caught in crystal technique which is great fun to do so will do both and compare. Your video and explanations ,as always, are so good and easy to follow, thank you for that. This shimmer effect is just so lovely. Thanks for the video. I tried this technique a while back and was not pleased with my first attempt at it. I think my problem was using too much white and also I "smeared" with too heavy a "smear". I will try this technique again and use less white and "smear" lightly this time. Love the look of the pearlescent shimmer showing through the words.
Really love these messy techniques sue but my hubby doesn't like the trail I leave behind. Lovely card as always. Will watch video when I get better internet signal.

Hi Sue, a beautiful and elegant card. Love the die and the clever background. I am currently suffering from Poinsettia overload! I have cut so many from vellum and they have either been 'sugared', inked (as in video) or stamped. I could almost open a flower shop lol but I now have them all to hand and ready to go on my projects. Frances
White on white is so effective for a Christmas card, just like freshly driven snow or a crisp white frost. I've watched this demoed on Hochanda and was really intrigued by the background technique, it works a treat, and I'm sure it translates even better in real life without the artificial studio lighting. Is it possible to do it without sticking my extra long overplayed nails together though?...I guess I'll just have to give it a go! I love your sentiment dies this year, the fonts are beautiful enough to be the focal point of any card. I'm feeling really festive and autumnal today, this card coupled with the freezing fog then blazing sunshine outside truly signals the end of British summertime and the beginning of darker nights and shorter days:-( As promised, my friend Gill, a fellow crafter, arrived this lunchtime for an afternoon of crafting chaos. We had vowed to make a start on our Chrimbo cards and I had earmarked Sues Paved pearl background with snowflake borders as the starting point. Gill is a little less experienced than me so I set about giving her some of Sues hints and tips on die cutting, embossing etc. She has a few of Sues festive dies but wasn't very confident in how to use them so we had a master class courtesy of Sues video and managed to make an accurate representation of the original. We were crafting at the kitchen table and Brodie periodically interrupted and tried to give us a lending paw...this was all well and good and was as expected given his previous form, however accidents can, and do unfortunately, happen! My Mum took him for a long walk whilst we carefully and lovingly created the random paved pearls with our cosmic shimmer glue- we'd spent over three hours on our creation and were quite chuffed with the final results. I noticed that Darceys prawns hadn't been put out to defrost so I turned my back to do it as Mum arrived back with Brodie...you can guess what happened next....Brodie jumped onto the table with dirty paws and proceeded to step onto my freshly created liquid pearls! As he left the scene of the crime he created a trail of gluey paw prints connecting him to the offence..he had squashed my dreams along with my perfectly formed droplets:-( I was gutted, gill and my Mum found it all highly amusing...I wasn't laughing though, and neither was Brodie when I tried to clean his Paw! Will I never learn? I purchased some dies yesterday, and thinking that I only had one festive sentiment I bought the Seasons greetings die....I discovered today that I already have it! My only defence is that I hadn't started my cards yet and had forgotten some of my previously purchased dies, what a plonker! Tracey, I apologise profusely for calling you Julie..where did that come from?I don't even Know a Julie! I could blame my age, or temporary insanity but have no adequate explanation other than total ignorance:-)So sorry. It must be daunting having a date for your op now, it makes it all so real-crafting can be a great tonic when life becomes a strain, keeping yourself busy might helpxxx Jane&Diane, I wish that I could ignore the clutter from crafting but I was hoovering up the mess this afternoon before I'd even finished my card..there's no hope for me! Lorraine, I'm so sorry but Brodies act of craft vandalism did make me laugh, as did the cleaning of his paws comment, I couldn't get the image of him with pretty pastel or pearlised paws out of my head. Billy has never got on a table while I'm working on it but has upended a TV table full of beads... seed beads! Once when he was little he pinched a tube of pva glue and proceeded to chew it... sturdy tube thankfully but his puppy teeth did make a good few puncture wounds on it! Got himself covered in glitter once by charging up behind me and sticking his head under my elbow... Mr W had to walk an iridescent glittered lurcher, much to his disgust! On the paw front he needs his darn great plates cleaned almost every day as he's a digger (my lawn looks like lots of little explosions have happened on it) and he doesn't like it but he never learns. He tolerates the cleaning as he knows if he gives all 4 paws to be cleaned and stays still he gets food in return. Worth it as if he doesn't stay still, you won't clean his paws!
I had a sleep this evening or I wouldn't be commenting now. Was nice to have the company but I was shattered after, it wears Billy out too. Ready or my bed now as opposed to the sofa, where I slept this evening with him curled up behind my legs. I tend to get a delayed reaction to extra strain of being awake most of the day so If I don't comment tomorrow dont worry.

Think this main die has the wow factor and is absolutely stunning. I've seen your other card in black, red and white using it and thought that was gorgeous, but this one is equally so. Think the die is a brilliant main feature. Just classy!

ReplyDeleteYAY...a technique where I can get my hands dirty, I love it! I'm thinking perhaps I might prepare an A4 sheet of acetate and then I could get at least 4 card backgrounds out of it. I'm searching my brain for which background dies I can use it with...yes, I know it would be a lot easier to actually go to my 'craft room' (actually the spare bedroom but if I'm paying bedroom tax I'm gonna use it for something other than storage lol) and just look through my storage folder but that would be the sensible way of going about things wouldn't it lol.
It's a beautiful sunny morning down here in Cornwall, although it's more than a tad nippy. Earlier on it really looked like autumn with all the early morning dew heavy on the cobwebs in the garden. I actually like autumn, I think it's my favourite season, lots of lovely colours to inspire.
Hi to all my fellow Wilsonettes, love and hugs to Melody and Francis. I hope that things will get a bit easier for you both. You are both an inspiration to us all.

Hi Sue, beautiful card. Lovely tactile technique, I'd like to see it swirled to see how that looks. Someone on your blog suggested using snowflakes instead of flowers which would be worth trying. A very achievable look as it only uses 2 dies.

This shimmer effect is just so lovely. Thanks for the video. I tried this technique a while back and was not pleased with my first attempt at it. I think my problem was using too much white and also I "smeared" with too heavy a "smear". I will try this technique again and use less white and "smear" lightly this time. Love the look of the pearlescent shimmer showing through the words.

Hi Sue, a beautiful and elegant card. Love the die and the clever background. I am currently suffering from Poinsettia overload! I have cut so many from vellum and they have either been 'sugared', inked (as in video) or stamped. I could almost open a flower shop lol but I now have them all to hand and ready to go on my projects.

ReplyDeleteWhite on white is so effective for a Christmas card, just like freshly driven snow or a crisp white frost. I've watched this demoed on Hochanda and was really intrigued by the background technique, it works a treat, and I'm sure it translates even better in real life without the artificial studio lighting. Is it possible to do it without sticking my extra long overplayed nails together though?...I guess I'll just have to give it a go!
I love your sentiment dies this year, the fonts are beautiful enough to be the focal point of any card. I'm feeling really festive and autumnal today, this card coupled with the freezing fog then blazing sunshine outside truly signals the end of British summertime and the beginning of darker nights and shorter days:-(
As promised, my friend Gill, a fellow crafter, arrived this lunchtime for an afternoon of crafting chaos. We had vowed to make a start on our Chrimbo cards and I had earmarked Sues Paved pearl background with snowflake borders as the starting point. Gill is a little less experienced than me so I set about giving her some of Sues hints and tips on die cutting, embossing etc. She has a few of Sues festive dies but wasn't very confident in how to use them so we had a master class courtesy of Sues video and managed to make an accurate representation of the original. We were crafting at the kitchen table and Brodie periodically interrupted and tried to give us a lending paw...this was all well and good and was as expected given his previous form, however accidents can, and do unfortunately, happen! My Mum took him for a long walk whilst we carefully and lovingly created the random paved pearls with our cosmic shimmer glue- we'd spent over three hours on our creation and were quite chuffed with the final results. I noticed that Darceys prawns hadn't been put out to defrost so I turned my back to do it as Mum arrived back with Brodie...you can guess what happened next....Brodie jumped onto the table with dirty paws and proceeded to step onto my freshly created liquid pearls! As he left the scene of the crime he created a trail of gluey paw prints connecting him to the offence..he had squashed my dreams along with my perfectly formed droplets:-( I was gutted, gill and my Mum found it all highly amusing...I wasn't laughing though, and neither was Brodie when I tried to clean his Paw!
Will I never learn? I purchased some dies yesterday, and thinking that I only had one festive sentiment I bought the Seasons greetings die....I discovered today that I already have it! My only defence is that I hadn't started my cards yet and had forgotten some of my previously purchased dies, what a plonker!
Tracey, I apologise profusely for calling you Julie..where did that come from?I don't even Know a Julie! I could blame my age, or temporary insanity but have no adequate explanation other than total ignorance:-)So sorry. It must be daunting having a date for your op now, it makes it all so real-crafting can be a great tonic when life becomes a strain, keeping yourself busy might helpxxx

Lorraine, I'm so sorry but Brodies act of craft vandalism did make me laugh, as did the cleaning of his paws comment, I couldn't get the image of him with pretty pastel or pearlised paws out of my head. Billy has never got on a table while I'm working on it but has upended a TV table full of beads... seed beads! Once when he was little he pinched a tube of pva glue and proceeded to chew it... sturdy tube thankfully but his puppy teeth did make a good few puncture wounds on it! Got himself covered in glitter once by charging up behind me and sticking his head under my elbow... Mr W had to walk an iridescent glittered lurcher, much to his disgust! On the paw front he needs his darn great plates cleaned almost every day as he's a digger (my lawn looks like lots of little explosions have happened on it) and he doesn't like it but he never learns. He tolerates the cleaning as he knows if he gives all 4 paws to be cleaned and stays still he gets food in return. Worth it as if he doesn't stay still, you won't clean his paws!
I had a sleep this evening or I wouldn't be commenting now. Was nice to have the company but I was shattered after, it wears Billy out too. Ready or my bed now as opposed to the sofa, where I slept this evening with him curled up behind my legs. I tend to get a delayed reaction to extra strain of being awake most of the day so If I don't comment tomorrow dont worry.
