Wednesday Weekly Card Giveaway

Hello there my crafty friends!  This is the card that I demoed on my very first Hochanda show.  I was on Youtube one day and came across a video called Northern Lights card that was done by a gal named Debbie Henderson.  Having just been to Norway and seen the northern lights, it piqued my interest so I decided to watch it.  It was a lovely video and while she did her card with Distress inks and stamps,  I couldn't help but wonder what it would look like done with Creative Expression Colour Cloud inks and my dies instead.  This is the result which I was tickled to bits with (thank you Debbie!)  I started with a piece of coconut white card and, using smoothies, inked it in slanted stripes with Chic Aubergine, Scarlet Woman, Baked Peach, Decadent Teal and Chic Moss Colour Cloud inks.  I tore a piece of card to use as a mask for the hills, then inked with Smudged Charcoal.  I went over the edges with Black Soot distress ink to darken the hills and give some contrast.  I inked the sky with Decadent Denim and pulled in streaks to soften the Northern Lights colours.  Finally I went around the edges a bit more with Black Soot.  I dotted the sky with a white gel pen to create the stars.  Using several sizes of my Winter trees, I added a forest line on either side of the hill, leaving a small gap for my sentiment die.  I cut the Merry Christmas die in both black and white, cutting away the snowflakes then offsetting them, using the black one on top.

If you would like to be entered into the drawing for this card, please leave me a comment.  I do need to say, however, that the pictures shown here are of the original card made.  However, I took it to Ally Pally to display on my demo table and ended up accidentally damaging it while I was demoing (a smoothie filled with ink bounced onto the card)  so the card that will be sent out will be the actual card made during the Hochanda demo and it may be slightly different to the pictures shown here.   All for now, Sue x

  11. Oh wow Sue. I loved watching you put the Northern Lights card together and I remembered the presenter being enthralled as you added stripe after stripe of ink, I found it so interesting too, after all the blending etc it showed such intensity but in a subtle way if that's makes sense. I have 3 colour cloud pots but the pastels so I'm not sure if I could get it to work, anyway, I just love it and I know I'm not alone.
Hope you have a good day Sue.

  164. Afternoon Sue
I absolutely love this card. I was standing right next to you at Ally Pally when you demonstrated this card. I was lucky enough to be the quickest person to yell and grab the card from you when you asked if anyone would like it and held it in the air. Seeing as I am already the proud owner of this masterpiece please do not put me in the draw. I would not like to take away the opportunity of the other worthy Wilsonettes to receive this masterpiece. Good luck to you all x
I am enjoying the calm before the storm. It is raining and quite chilly here today. I have been sitting in a reclined position with a fluffy blanket and scented candles burning to create a relaxed atmosphere. That will not work for much longer as the boys will arrive home very soon.
Apprentice evening is looming. Wednesdays is officially Apprentice Appreciation Society in our house. The Society or AAS for short consists of myself (chairperson obviously), and 6 friends. Our meetings take place on Wednesday evenings and the schedule involves drinking tea, eating cake and watching whichever programme happens to be on that is worth watching. The society was formed a few years ago when a previous series of the Apprentice was on and the members got into the habit of enjoying each others company and eating cake.
We even have our tea made for us courtesy of my youngest George. He has an ulterior motive which is that he wants cake but it works well for all those involved.
This pleasant past time has continued every week unless I cancel due to unforeseen circumstances. Not all members can attend every week but it is something that has become an enviable and exclusive 'club' in the Croydon area. The name Apprentice Appreciation Society stuck rather than changing the name according to our viewing.
I have a feeling that this evening could be a raucous affair. This will result from the frustration of the viewers which causes loud jeering aimed at the screen as we watch in pure amazement at the pure ineptitude of the supposed best business brains in Britain.
When George gets in from college he is going to help me make this evenings cake. Still pondering as to what sould be on the menu this evening. Gluten free double choc chunk brownies or gluten free poppy seed drizzle cake. I'll let you know tomorrow x
Lorraine Freeman - I hope you get the results you are hoping for from the tests x
Sandra - hope you have had a lovely day crafting - or otherwise x
Theresa - my boys are looking after me x
Tracy - you have really burst our bubble - we were so impressed by your bloke and the bouquet. Lol x
Melody - thinking of you x
Lorraine - hope you are feeling brighter. Days are definitely drawing in and clocks go back this weekend and it is difficult to try not to let it get to you. I always light candles when it starts to get dark (and often in the afternoon). I have always loved candles and do find that it has a calming effect. It isn't the answer I know but it helps me. Also have a daylight lamp so I can colour/craft when it is dark.
Failing that then use youtube to google Strictly and pert firm buttocks! Lol. Hang in there hun x
Off to have a debate (with myself ) on the vey important subject of which cake is best to accompany this evenings proceedings.
Sending love and warm smiles to everyone.

  190. Hi Sue
Well what can I say about this card. I saw you do this on Hocanda and at Ally Pally. When you started I thought how is that going to turn in a Northern Nights scene. Then wow and behold we saw the lights streaking across the sky. Adding the trees just put the icing on the cake.

    ReplyDelete
  191. Good evening lovely Sue and her crafty crew!

Wowzers! We have all raved about this particular card since you demoed it on Hochanda and I for one am cock a hoop to see it being featured today. I echo the sentiment that it is refreshing to see you do a work of magnificence that doesn't have a die as it's focal point. You have such a talent for stamping and inking and I really appreciate watching a master at work. I was enthralled by your demo and would love it if you could recreate it for CE on YouTube- there are many who weren't lucky to watch you weave your magic and seeing really is believing where this card is concerned. Anyone would be proud to receive this iconic scene and it deserves to be framed and take pride of place in a loyal Wilsonettes craftroom....I wonder who would be the most appropriate recipient?Mmmm.....
Yvonne, as the chair of BCAS I would have thought it appropriate for you to be open and transparent in your dealings, so to say that I am both shocked and disappointed that you failed to declare your good fortune in procuring your very own piece of Sue Wilson memorabilia is putting it mildly. Was Sue seduced by your white chocolate treats or did you stand so menancingly by her side that she had no choice but to submit to your demands? I guess she didn't head my advice and failed to utilise the pepper spray or taser gun in time before you made a hasty getaway with your prize...and WHAT a prize! Seriously, congrats my friend, you have bagged yourself one of Sues standout designs- maybe we could have a conference in April prior to my own introduction to the great lady, and you can give me some hints and tips?
You are one busy lady my dear, chair of another committee? I am so impressed. I love the Apprentice too...almost as much as I love cake...the poppy seed one sounds lush, I wish I lived closer to Croydon:-( we are kindred spirits, I burn Yankee Candles every day and use a daylight lamp to craft too...spooky or what?
Having a brighter day today, weather was favourably sunny after the overnight rain and I managed to get some prep done for my Chrimbo cards-used some cosmic shimmer lacquer to glaze red poinsettias and they worked a treat. Left them on my craftroom desk to dry thinking that Brodie was safely secured downstairs and out of harms way. Checked back later only to discover a couple on my carpet covered in cat fur and paw prints!??!Will I never learn?Starting to fear that he has developed a glue sniffing fetish.....
Melody, been thinking about you all day, hope you and Francis aren't too exhausted emotionally or physically after such a stressful day at the hospital. Sending you both humongous hugsxxxx
Tracey, you have shattered any illusions that I may have fostered that there were still some thoughtful, romantic men out there. I thought that I was a cynic believing that flowers were either an admittance of guilt or for those occupying a hospital bed, seems I was right on both counts:-)
Sandra, did you get much crafting done earlier or was it just an excuse for cake and a gossip?:-)
Off to watch the Apprentice on my own without any cake:-(

    Love and crafty hugs

    Laine1972xxxx

It would seem that all those fortunate enough to see it first hand at AP thought so too.
