Birthday Card And I Just Had To Share!

Hello there my crafty blog friends!  A milk and black card to share first, and then an email from a blog follower that I received on Saturday to share afterwards!  I started this card by embossing a piece of milk card with the Beaded Fanfare embossing folder for texture.  I added the decorative pearls corners in cream colour to the four corners.  Next I cut two of the Ornamental Corners in milk card.  I nipped away one side of them to create a symmetrical corner shape.  I used some of our cream satin edged ribbon down the centre of the card vertically and fed the ribbon through the tips of the corners, then added glue to the side swirls to attach them to the card for anchors.  I cut the St. Kitts die in black to go in the centre of the card. I cut the next size down in that set in milk card and layered it up in the centre of St. Kitts.    I stamped my sentiment and covered it with a sticky adhesive sheet and cut it out with the inside shape from the Kefalonia die, then peeled the backing paper and coated it with Diamond Sprinkles and mounted it in the centre of the card with foam.  I tied a double bow and added a black crystal sparkler to the centre as an embellishment and attached it below the St. Kitts die.  I finished the card with some milk and black matting and my usual paper pierced inner edge.  The finished dimensions are 7" x  8 1/4" in size.

Now to share a special email with you, just scroll down.

I don't often do this but I just had to share (with their permission of course) the email and pictures below that I received on Saturday.  It was just so sweet and WOW was I impressed with Jennie's skills!  I think you will be suitably impressed as well!!

Hi Sue, Hope you are well and enjoy this little story, with the attached photos.
>
> My granddaughter Jennie, who is nearly four, is very interested in 'making',
> as she calls it, and we have been stamping, gluing and making cards
> together since she was about two and a half.  A couple of months ago I
> happened to be watching one of your videos whilst at her house (she lives in
> Leeds and we are in Liverpool) and she climbed up to watch it with me. Since
> then she has asked several times to 'watch Sue make a card on the iPad'.
> She watches your videos with great interest and asks lots of questions about
> what you're doing.   She said she would like to make a card like one of
> yours so the next time we went over I prepped the pieces for the card in
> your 'bordered aperture' video and she helped me to construct it following
> the video as we went along.
>
> This week she has been to stay with us for a couple of days and I had
> promised her that we could make a card together using my grand calibur and
> following one of your videos. We chose the 'sparkle your embossing' video
> from YouTube and we started from scratch. Jennie helped to measure and then
> cut the card pieces for the card base, sticking them together with tape and
> mounting foam herself. She then carefully taped the dies to the card, made
> up the sandwiches, and insisted in winding my grand calibur all by herself.
> She then used the tool'n'one to remove the bits as she's seen you do.  I
> think the bit she liked best was spreading the diamond sprinkles onto the
> sticky sheet and then embossing it.  Finally, I helped her to assemble the
> card and we added some flowers from my stash that I had made some time ago.
> I think you'll agree that the finished card is really lovely and, according
> to Jennie, is for her little sister Becca's first birthday at the end of the
> month.
>
> Jennie sat with me for over two hours making the card, which is pretty
> amazing for one so young, I think.  This morning she again asked to watch
> one of your videos. I went immediately to your blog and we were both
> delighted to find that 'our card' was today's video.  We also scrolled down
> to look at the 'gilded high-low technique' and I have promised that when we
> go to Leeds in a couple of weeks time I'll take the necessary equipment for
> her to be able to make it. (I think I'll have to buy another grand calibur
> to leave in her house!!)
>
> Anyway, you have made a small child and her grandma very happy. As ever,
> thank you for sharing your wonderful skills and making card-making so
> accessible.

 Take care

  22. Hi Sue & Wilsonettes

Firstly Sue I would like to say thank you for sharing such an inspiring story with us, I’m not surprised that you were keen to include this in today’s blog...Grandparents are naturally proud of their grandchildren but I imagine this is more so with regards to Diane’s granddaughter Jennie...

You must be so proud of her Diane especially when she shares your love of crafting...may I say a very beautiful girl with a very beautiful card & as for turning the GC handle herself she seems very determined to show that she can succeed & so obviously enjoyed making this card... a true budding card maker in the making...you may have some competition there Sue as she is growing up...LOL...it just goes to show Sue how the talents of young Jennie has shown what a testament you are to those of us who are truly inspired by YOUR exceptional talents...I sincerely hope that you are proud of the gift that you have brought forth from young Jennie & indeed for the rest of us. Well done Jennie, I’m truly impressed & there is no mistaking that you should be so proud of your wonderful achievement x x x

Now for today’s card Sue I have the Beaded Fanfare E folder & it really is a beautiful design, naturally, as with all your designs...Love the way that you have threaded the ribbon through the St Kitts cutting die...as luck would have it I have just recently purchased this ribbon & it is simply gorgeous & so lovely to work with. Overall a beautiful, striking card Sue...thanks you for your inspiration & for sharing this beautiful card with us today.

Lynda (craft’s)...please give Annie & Bambi the biggest Kisses & (((((HUGS))))) from us...my heart really goes out to you my dear friend...loving Annie as you do & always have done will be a great comfort to her...I’m like you I love my animals all their lives but when it comes to a situation where they are poorly, such a s sweet Annie, then we feel we have to cram in 20/30 years of kisses & cuddles....love ‘ n’ hugs to you dear friend x x x x x

Well I have finally completed the front garden...took advantage...LOL...of the weather ladies, the weather...lol...& then had to do a lot of pruning etc in the rear garden it was looking neglected due to the front...rest assured though that I did go slowly..1 hour garden...15 min rest for bathroom & playtime with girls (more Hannah)...then repeat etc.

Anyways I must go my friends as need feeding & I need to finish 2nd half of the back garden where a load of Russian vine has crept through & is in the process of strangling my plants...

Sue hope you are having a wonderful time with your mom & family...to you, my friends & to all lovely Wilsonettes I send you (((((HUGS))))) if needed & smiles if you don’t...take care Love Beth B x x x

  31. Hi Sue.
What a beautiful card to start our week, this would certainly be the birthday card to take centre stage on anyone's birthday and one to be kept on display for many days after the occassion.

Many a time you have read comments both on your wonderful blog, and via email about how inspirational you are. How you brighten people's day (on good and bad day's) this email you received from Dianne is the proof that you bring so much happiness into people's lives.
It's so lovely to read that a child so young has such interest and concentration it takes to make a card, and the closeness they have is just beautiful to read, so many children of Jennies age would be dressing dollies, asking grandma to read or make 'invisable' tea for her teddies, and im sure at time's Dianne would have done all the above, but to ask to 'make' with grandma at that age is a first, and grandma may have helped Jennie put this remarkable card together, but I find it amazing that this little beauty made her own little 'make' by watching your You Tube video's. Can you imagin her skill's in another few year's if the interest stay's with her... Jennie - probably not in my lifetime but I see an opening for you as the youngest ever DT member for Creative Expressions.
Thank you for the double helping of sunshine this morning Sue, both from yourself, and for sharing Dianne's email (bet you had a lump in your throat) lol. So each time you read you are such an ispiration, think back to Dianne's email, smile, and say " yes I am "
    Sending hugs.

  36. Wow, little Jennie really has a knack for following along and making that card. Who would imagine someone so young, would sit long enough to complete it. Oh her grandma has every right to be so proud of her. I'm glad they shared their story with you, and with us. How inspiring. Grandma better come up with a bigger craft area! i Have to admit, I watch the videos often.

So thank you for inspiring not only the adults but introducing your crafting to kids also. I think it is awesome!

  37. Morning Sue. Your card today is lovely and would serve so many purposes. I had a lump in my throat when I read the e mail. What a talented little girl! and what happy memories for her grandma. My granddaughter used to love to craft with me, but only if she could use 'real' things. She would never be fobbed off with children's kits. Many a sheet of my best card was used, but at the end of the day it is only a piece of card, and she was copying Grandma. Sadly, as others have said, different things have taken her interest but I know she has the skills, so one day maybe she will come back to it. You are inspiring a whole new generation.

A really beautiful card today love everything about this one so inspirational for various occasions.
A wonderful story you have shared with us, it is wonderful when children take an avid interest in crafting. My grandson aged 8 loves making cards after seeing you on C & C, although as I have told you previously he does say the GC is really hard work, but he loves making his own 'special cards'. Proving yet again what a wonderful inspiration you really are, you truly are one very special lady.

  89. Hi Sue
What a beautiful card you have bought us this morning, it really is beautiful. Thank you for sharing. Thank you also for sharing the lovely email from Diane and Jennie. What a talented granddaughter you have Diane, I hope she continues to be interested in card making for many years to come although I think it will cost you a fortune! How lovely you are letting Jennie use your posh stuff too as many people have a cheaper option for the grandchildren to play with but in your case she certainly deserves to use the posh stuff. Her teacher will love her when she starts school! Thank you so much Sue for sharing such a lovely email with us.
Enjoy your day with your mum.

  107. Hello sue an everyone. I love today's card I really love the way you have done the ribbon an bow looks so pretty.i think the card the littl girl made with her nanny is sp pretty as well. to everyone who asked yesterday I am 12 I have been making cards an other things like Jewllery with my nan since I was a really little girl like jennie an I love it. My nan always jokes that if she ever wins the lottery she will buy me a craft shop for when I leave school I know she is joking but I would love it if it did ever happen. I have 3 sisters now macie is only a little baby she came in January but the other 2 Lilly an grace are 6 an 9 an the only time they ever want nan to help them do a card is when it's mum or dads birthday they are not like me who want to make them all the time it don't have to be anyone's birthday. An I love collecting craft stuff nan calls it her stash and I have a load of stuff that I buy with my own money. I once made a pearl necklace an earrings for sue I think I was about 8 an I didn't no sue don't like earrings but she said she liked her necklace. They were not real pearls they were only glass ones but they are sues birth stones with moonstone as well an if granddad had not got unwell nan was going to let me make her a new set this year with real pearls not earrings a necklace an bracelet. She said we will still do it because we already got the pearls.i got it wrong yesterday with the days it's day 14 today of granddaddy chemo an it's 21 days to each round an on day 22 he as to go back in an have the chemo put in for 9 hours again like the first day an then do the 21 days again like now where it's just for 1 hour a day an this is for 6 months an if it's worked they will try to do an operation to cut out the cancer an try to make him a new belly. Sorry I write so much today I just wanted to make sure I got it right nan said I not allowed to do to much and I promised I won't I just wanted to tell you about the Jewllery I made sue I won't right very much anymore. Thank you everyone Molly oxoxox

  126. Good afternoon Sue and our big and little Wilsonettes,

What a heartwarming post today, it brought a tear to my glass eye:-), and almost overshadowed your wondrous card Sue.
I love the design of today's little beauty, particularly the novel way that you have incorporated the ribbon, it's reminiscent of the Art Deco style, enhanced by the fantail embossing folder...lush!
I feel all warm and fuzzy inside after the story of our little prodigy Jennie-careful Sue, she'll be after a job with CE before she reaches double figures at this rate. I am in awe at the standard she had attained and the level of concentration required to watch your demos and produce a replica...Amazing!
Then we have little Molly who is faithfully following your blog, Melody must be so proud of her eloquent little superstar.I was supremely touched by your story Molly, I too have done jewellery making and it can be extremely fiddly and difficult to achieve a convincing result so I applaud your efforts. I am sure Sue would be over the moon to receive another set, pearls are so beautiful, as are you sweetie. You should be so proud of yourself and Thankyou for your explanation, it wasn't too long and it is lovely to know a little bit more about youxxxx
I managed to spend yesterday Afternon restling with my GC and the Canadian background, it is such a beautiful die and worth the effort.
Off out to the doctors again, god I should have a loyalty card! And a sleeping bag! Never mind , plenty of time to finish off my efforts from yesterday later on.

Love it and now I'm on a mission to get the beaded fanfare Ef....stunning! xx Well, what a wonderful and heart warming email and photo of such a lovely little girl, Jennie. As has been said Sue, I can imagine how this must have brought a lump to your throat, as it did here just reading it. What a wonderful little girl (I can't believe she is nearly four!) and who's done a Sue Wilson masterpiece! That's an amazing achievement for one so young. "Thank you Sue" (and Debbie!) for sharing this wonderful email and photograph of Jennie with her beautiful card. Debbie, you must be the proudest nanna! I loved to read that you have let her turn the GC, giving Jennie full throttle! Jennie, you are an amazing little girl. You should be sooooo proud of what you have done and I'm sure we shall be hearing a lot more of you in the near future. "Hear hear!" I'm sure, with our wonderful Sue and your nanna Debbie you will reach the top...and that won't be long! xx Also, I hope that, our Sue will believe us when we tell what an inspiration she is to us all xx I can honestly say that I did flat and whatever cards, 9 years ago. I'd seen the Create and craft show and I bought my first set of Fairy cards and stickers. A few years later I was taken poorly and for the first time I saw this amazing lady on the Create and Craft show. From then on, to keep my spirits up, my husband (bless him) bought me my first set of dies and machine. Although I couldn't do too much it helped me to cope. I still have on going problems but I still "get lost" in creating Sue style cards. I've been lucky enough to have a few cards published in a craft magazine....unexpected, but chuffed! My mum also takes her birthday cards to the bingo....and that's praise indeed! Lol! I can honestly say "thank you Sue" for inspiring us. Jennie you are a gorgeous, amazing and talented little girl and I'm sure we will hear more of you in the future xx What has also been lovely, is reading about other nanna's who are inspiring their grandchildren too. What an amazing and talented generation we have coming ahead of us! Molly, don't you worry about writing too much. It's lovely to hear from you. "Thank you" for the up date on your granddad. Sending you all love and hugs xx How amazing too that you have made Sue earrings and a necklace. Wow! How wonderful are you? You keep going too Molly. We need all our little inspirations like you two out there xx Sending love and hugs to you Sue, your mom and your family xx Hope you are having a wonderful time! xx Sending love and hugs to all our Wilsonettes who are in need too xx take everyone xx Love Karen xx

  163. Hi Sue, you had better watch out I think Jennie is looking to take your job! With cards like that at 4 years old I can't wait to see what she is making at 14 never mind 24.

Jennie, you are a very clever girl to be able to make a card so beautiful. You have a good teacher in your Grandma and with Sue to teach you step by step you will be making lots more cards.

Sue, your card is stunning - I love it and now have that embossing folder on my 'want/need/musthaveasap list

  165. Stunning card Sue. Just love it. Thank you also for sharing Jennie's card with us and to Mollie for sending the comment. As others have said you are an inspiration to the next crafting generation. My granddaughter also loves making cards and other crafty things and always watches your videos and can name a lot of the dies.. She loves to come to the craft group I belong to and her colouring is as good as the adults. It's good that these skills are being carried on.

  171. Morning Sue,
Well what a lovely blog this morning. Bonus two cards and a wonderful story about lovely grandchildren joining in the crafting!
I get my grandchildren making whenever they come - they love to play on Serif - whizz kids with computers! They now make all their own cards to send ( saves me a job!) and love the glittery bits!
How lovely to read that one so young is so interested in crafting. It's a pleasure to see craft return with such avengance.
Relly nice cards today Sue - floating sentiment is a bit busy for me but anyone would love to recieve it but mono has always been my favourite.
Have a good day out there everyone and take care.
    Love Anne M xx
