Wednesday Weekly Card Giveaway

Hello crafters.  First off, I have to say that this card is one of those that really needs to be seen in person to appreciate.  The Faux Mother of Pearl Caught in Crystal background is really pretty, but you just can't seem to capture it in a picture unfortunately (well, at least I can't!)  First I embossed the background using the Leafy Quad embossing folder for texture.  For the focal element, I used a piece of acetate and swirled Cosmic Lacquer all over it.  I dusted it with pearlescent mica powder then used a piece of tissue to smooth out any large areas of mica.  I covered it with a piece of scrunched up tissue paper and set it aside to dry.  Basically it is the caught in crystal technique without the alcohol inks, giving it a faux mother of pearl look when dry.  I cut it to size then added the scalloped border from the Lavish Swirls diagonal die set all the way around the edge.  Next I covered a piece of white card with a sticky adhesive sheet then cut it with the outside die in the St. Lucia die set.  I used the same die again but this time with the next one down in the set together to give me the lacy sort of fringe.  I peeled the backing off of the die shape, then added the fringe sort of border around the edge then dusted the remaining sticky sheet with pearlescent mica powder.  I cut a Blossoming branch and added it, layering on the small flowers cut out of an extra piece of mica topped card.  I stamped the sentiment and cut it out with the small oval from the St Lucia set.  I finished the card with a paper pierced white mat then a final white mat.  The finished dimensions are 7 1/2" x  8 1/2" in size.  Leave me a comment to be entered in the drawing for this one.  Winner to be announced as usual on Saturday's blog post.  All for now, Sue x

  8. Good morning Sue,
Well it hasn't been here! We have all been up since just before five as all of the smoke/ carbon monoxide alarms went off and despite trying everything , nothing would switch them off, we calked an emergency electrician as we live in Armed Forces accommodation and was told that emergency call out takes up to 3 hours, because tad bungalow has been adapted for me (disabled) they go over board on smoke alarms, there are 3 in lounge, 3 in hall way and one in every single room plus carbon monoxide monitors, well they ALL went off, we were scrambling round trying to find the kittens, got Millo but Bella was nowhere to be seen, I was so worried as they have sensitive hearing and believe me it hurt our ears, Milo and girls were evacuated to the car, paul wa trying to switch alarms off, which wax impossible and me and Matt were looking for Bella, engineer came zabout ten minutes ago, has removed one alarm that he believes us faulty, and so peace at last! But our ears are ringing and aching! What a way to start the day!
Today's card is beautiful Sue, I must try that caught in crystal technique as it is so effective, although it's not so easy to see on pictures I can imagine how beautiful it us in reality!
Have a great day everyone, I am off for a lie down!

Take care everyone. We have some sunshine this morning but it's still very windy. I just wish we would get some warmer weather.

    Morning Sue
I would love to see today's gift in real life. Your techniques are always so so good that it's a shame that the faux pearl doesn't show how it should. So I'll just keep my fingers etc crossed so that I might be able to do just that.

I love white/white it is so classical and so so elegant which makes today's gift one which would fit any occasion. I really love the way you have kept your focal element simple which just enhances the whole.

I had a good afternoon yesterday at my Knit and Natter and have to say that there was more natter than crafting yesterday but it was a good catch up afternoon.

I have decided that today is the day that I sort out my wardrobe after trying to extract a hanger with the top I wanted to wear and a load of others came with it so the time has come and the Charity shop will benefit.

To all in pain and suffering today I hope your day gets better. To everyone please take care and stay safe. See you tomorrow.

Wow, what a start to your day Sandra, on top of you not been so well this week, hope you and all the family recover quickly, kitties included.

Lorraine 1972 - hope your tooth out is all over quickly and much better than you may have expected.

Sue this card is stunning, may be white on white but there are so many tones, love the frill from the St Lucia die, must try that, the Mother of Pearl is gorgeous and the blossoming branch with it's tiny flowers is so pretty. Sue thank you so much, I am learning all the time from your blog and demos.
Hoping that the rest of the day is great for everyone, blessings all - Deb C xx

  145. Hello Sue & All The Wilsonettes! Hope you are all well & enjoying lovely weather today? It is a lovely, sunny day here where I am in Pembrokeshire! Unfortunately, I am not feeling 100% as I had to have a blood test, this morning (because I have to go the hospital, AGAIN, on Monday!) & the nurse had an awful job finding a vein (my veins have always been very deep!)Thankfully, she got there, in the end! PHEW! Well, you have made ANOTHER stunning card again, Sue! It looks SO fresh & Summery! I would love to be in with a chance to win something like that! I was thinking of making some cards today but, the weather is so nice, I may go out instead! Take care of yourselves, everyone! Lots of Love, Mary XXX

  157. Hi Sue,
This is lovely effect, I will have to try it. Have done the caught in crystal with alcohol inks, so must give this ago. I sympathise with Sandra we had a power cut at 12.30 a.m this morning and house alarms etc. all went off luckily it was only for about 20 mins so that was nothing compared to Sandra's early morning.
Would love to see this card in real life !!!!!

  158. Again, just lovely. Hope we get a video with the faux mother of pearl technique.
While I was reading the blog, the mailman brought my international package from Joanna Sheen which contained my new Sue Wilson dies. I can't say enough about this wonderful company. Even though it's so far to ship, I've never had a single problem. You worry when you are ordering overseas, but they've done a great job.
Now, I'm so excited! I got all three new Noble dies, Canadian background, Vancouver, Portuguese background, and of course the Butterfly. Wish I could get them all, but will have to save up from my flea market sales for now.

  169. Hi Sue, I looked at the card this morning on my tablet but had to wait until I got home to my lap-top before commenting so as to see the pictures properly. I had trouble following your instructions until I expanded the pictures and it all fell into place. Very clever techniques and I love the Blossoming Branch.

Lorraine - hope the tooth extraction was not too painful.

Sandra - hope you and the kittens have recovered and been able to enjoy the day. Unless I remember to close the kitchen door my smoke alarm goes off every time I cook Yorkshire puddings (and no, I am not burning them, lol) and the noise from one alarm is bad enough so I dread to think of what it must have been like for you.
