It's A Double Day

Hello crafters!  First up, we have an easel card (I know, an actual card, huh!  Will wonders never cease!).  I started my card by creating the easel part of it by folding my base piece, then folding the top part of it again.  Next I began to create the piece that I attached to the front fold.  I cut the Let It Snow die out of coconut white card.  I removed the inside bits of the design and then glued it back into place in the aperture which I had backed with a piece of aqua card.  The aqua card helps pop the words out so they are more easily readable too.  I covered the entire sheet with a sticky self adhesive sheet and coated it with Iced Snow for a wintry blingey feel.  I cut a piece of acetate and wrapped the ends around the card and glued them to the back (I covered the edges with another piece of card to neaten it up a bit).  I left the acetate very puffy for a fun effect.  I also scattered small pearls across the front of it so they look like snow that is floating.  I added a pearl snowflake to the acetate as well.  For the bottom "stopper" portion of the card, I used several small snowflakes and my greeting which I cut out using the California Collection Decorative Frames die set B.  I added Iced Snow to the edge of the white mat die cut.  When open the top piece just sits behind the greeting tag to hold it into place.  You can see from the picture taken above the card a better look at the acetate puffiness.  When closed the finished dimensions are 4 1/2" x  6" in size (a really small card for me!)  Scroll down to see card no. 2.

Card number two is one of those where you have a bit of a play and come up with some other fun way to use a die other than it's usual intended purpose.  Here I have cut several of the Pine Bough die to create this fun snowy tree.  I coated the die cuts with Cosmic Shimmer dries clear glue then sprinkled them with Iced Snow for that wintry effect again.  I glued them into place wider at the bottom, narrowing to the tip where I added a shadowed star from one of the dies in my Christmas Angel set.  I embossed the top of the card behind the tree with the Floral Brocade Pinpoint embossing folder and added a pearl star in the upper corner.  For the sentiment, I cut several of the Believe die in white and stacked them for a bit of dimension.  This is a great way to get dimension on those dies that are too thin and detailed to add mounting foam behind them.  I cut one extra one in silver card and offset it behind to act as a shadow which really helps it stand out against the white backdrop.  I dotted the "i" with a pearl and added some white mats to give the card a more finished look.  I used the Cosmic Shimmer white PVA glue to dot all the way around the edge to frame it.  The finished dimensions are 7 1/2" x  8" in size.  Well we are officially on the run up to Christmas now, so I hope you are well on your way to finishing up your Christmas cards.  I hope that some of the Friday double day ideas have helped you along the way.  All for now, Sue x

  7. Good morning Sue
Wow! Two absolutely stunning cards (plus one real card lol), I love them both. I loved the Christmas tree with the bough branch when you did it on C&C and I copied it and was so pleased with the result. The 'Let it snow' die is the word die I've used most it's so pretty and there are perfect spots to place pearls or adhesive stones.
I'm early this morning because it's my birthday and my gorgeous sons have bought me the Gemini, New York and striplet sets of dies so I'm playing with them (although between you and me I've been playing with my Gemini before lol), my eldest son didn't give them to me until today so I couldn't play until now, he knows me too well lol.
    Hugs x

By the way the dies are FABULOUS! So much better in real life, congratulations Sue you've surpassed yourself this time. X

  10. Hi Sue. Yes, another great Double Day. I love both cards and couldn't choose one over the other. And what a surprise, another actual card, that's two in as many weeks. It must be the colder weather or something : )
Thank you, you have given me so much inspiration for my Christmas cards this year Sue, I have loved them all, and along with your gorgeous Christmas dies you have made it easy to have a go myself: ) (I am always sad to see the end of the Christmas cards, I would be happy to see them all year round)
Sending my daily hugs to everyone. Take care.

  12. Morning Sue, Pam and all Wilsonettes, such stunning cards today Sue, I love the easel card and the way you have put the acetate on it to make the snow stand out, and love the bough card too, I am not going to choose between them because they are both stunning in their own right.

Sue you always give us so much inspiration and even if we cannot come up with a design ourselves by adapting one of your card ideas we can still achieve that comfort feeling by completing a card. It is also nice to see a smaller card.

I actually posted loads of my Christmas cards yesterday (first time ever I am on top of things, usually end up sending them on the last day of posting).

Well it is Black Friday today so it is going to be horrific in the shops, enjoy your day everyone.

Stay safe, healthy and happy, hugs, June Smith xxx

I wish I could say I'd done all my Christmas cards, but things have been so busy I'm very behind and may have to resort to sending shop bought ones abroad - can't believe I've just said "shop bought"!!! Well the decorator starts work on our craft room on Monday and the carpet is due on the 22 Dec so with luck it should be fully functional in time for Christmas, I can't wait.
Happy Birthday Heather T, what a wonderful family to treat you to Sue's dies, enjoy your day.

Happy birthday Heather, WOW, lucky lady, all those dies to play with today - enjoy. I honestly think, know that they are the most prettiest dies to date, cant wait to get my order.
Cheryl, hope your radiotherapy hasnt wiped you out too much, thinking of you.

Two stunning and beautiful cards today Sue and number 2 is SO clever, you wake my brain up that's for sure, and feed it with idea's only you could think of ! Thank you so much. Still have a few to make - my 'specials' as dont think its worth making more for market as its so near to Christmas, most will already have got them ! *tut*

Well June, there will be lots of people with early C cards this weekend, you really are making sure they get them on time lol !!
Janet, I meant to say how lovely to read your quaint story re home made gift hidden around the home where your son lives. I was trying to remember the lovely tradition to tell Mr L but will have to find your post and read it (when his brain is awake) he's just back from walking the dog, he doesnt remember doing it till at least 10am ! He's a useless early riser !
So on that note I send love and hugs to you all and wish you all a good day.

  46. Good Morning Sue,
What truly inspirational cards. I love the use of acetate on the first one, and the use of pine boughs to make a Christmas tree is so clever and looks fabulous.

It was lovely to be welcomed to the blog yesterday and reassured that I hadn't overstepped the mark by including a tip, thank you ladies.
Brenda, I did mean a sponge with a scrubbit, I managed to find a white one, but if you use a green one, wash and dry it first otherwise you end up with fine green dust all over your workspace!!

Wow what Festive gifts you have inspired us with today!
I really must get on with these Christmas Cards!
Cheryl, gentle hugs coming your way, I hope you don't feel too exhausted, hugs xx
June .....as you have finished yours can you come help me with mine please? I can supply lunch??, you are so organised, my wish to Santa would be that we ll lived near enough to each other so that we could craft together at least once a fortnight ! I can dream can't I ?!
Do you think there will be any craft bargains around for Black Friday,? I am off for a look?
Was anyone tempted by the new Grand Calibur in Teal? I heard it was supposed to be better at cutting all over the plate rather than just down the edges? Not sure if it's true, something was said about metal gears as apposed to plastic ones in existing machines.
Sue (Mrs B), Pat (Witney) and I all have Grand Calibur's and they all cut completely differently, Sue's is the newest I think, but is 'loose' enough for her to put a decent thickness shim in, but mine wouldn't even attempt at cutting through it, ans although mine is 'tighter' I tried to extend the gorgeous new striplet die side ways (across) the plate ( to finish a complete A4 sheet, as I matches up beautifully to extend ) but my GC would not cut it in that direction at all, Pat's GC is super tight and at times very hard to turn handle to cut with just simple 'cut sandwich! , it just amazed me that all three machines were manufactured in the same factory but their cut is completely different , you wouldn't normally notice unless you craft in a group!
A bit of a random topic but genuinely surprised me!
Crafty hugs, extra gentle for those amongst us feeling low, big warm welcoming ones for all new comers too!

    morning Sue
What a fantastic way to use your Pine Bough die! I would never have thought of doing that in a million years. This is certainly going to be in my idea box for next Season.
I love using acetate on the front of cards but I have a real problem when it comes to securing it at the back.
So as you probably can tell I have fallen for No.2 this week.

Tres - Hope you're both improving day by day. Take care.
Sandra - hope you can get to play with your new dies. The new camelia die is just beautiful to work with. Have a really good week-end.
Norah - happy knitting - I always use Deramores as they are wonderful re delivery and choice of wools.

Well off this morning to meet our Nephew who is on his Santa run from Holland. So all their presents for both celebrations -5th and 25th Dec - and Josh - our Great Nephew- birthday goodies for the first week in Jan will go back with him.

To all who are feeling under the weather hope you feel better as the day goes on. To all take care and stay safe. See you tomorrow.

The "Believe" card is right up my street and a pine bough isn't just a pine bough is it...very clever to make a tree out of it...

definitely a couple of ideas I will be stealing for Christmas 2015 - I've already finished all the cards I need for this year including some spares for "just in case"...

btw, Sue - ignoring Blogger's Prove you're not a robot doesn't work - it won't let me publish until I fill in the numbers in the box!

Birthday wishes for a beautiful day for Heather T
Thank you all for leaving me so many supportive messages, I really do appreciate them. The journey to the Beacon Centre, Taunton yesterday was not very good as the blanket of fog was horrendous to drive through. I am so fortunate to have the Red Cross Transport services to rely on to get me there and back, I don't think, actually I know, I would not have been able to get there on my own as I am only just starting to drive again since my Pete died last year and my agoraphobia hit me with such a vengeance that it has taken this long for me to be able to get to my Doctor's surgery and back home. That is as far as I can manage at the moment. And I have only managed that with the help and support of my wonderful team from the Mental Health Community Programme in Bridgwater, who come out on home visits for me.
Second session today was a lot better than yesterdays' and no sign of fatigue yet although I have been warned it will strike anytime and the best thing to do is chill out. Many crafty days coming I think.
Heartfelt healing hugs and prayers for all those in pain, discomfort and loss.

  127. Hi Sue,
Hope you had a lovely day yesterday with your family.
Two gorgeous cards today - again! I think the first one is beautiful - and a real card !! However my favourite is the second one. I love the pine bough - it's gorgeous and cuts beautifully - as does the Believe. Using it to make a tree is just so clever. I remember seeing it on C&C.
I am no where near finished Christmas cards. Have made a lot and got lots of die cuts ready and waiting but lots still to do .
Sandra - I agree would be lovely to get together to craft - no harm in dreaming! Re Grand Calibur - mine is very tight and I think that may be why my handle broke. If the new one cuts more evenly it would get my vote!
Heather T - Happy Birthday to You! Have a lovely day and enjoy your lovely presents.
Anne - so glad everything went well yesterday. Think you should be upgraded to Sister Anne! Lol . The patient must have been good as well! So pleased Iain feels so much better.
Diane - hope wedding went well and cake appreciated. Sure it went down well! Welcome to Christmas mayhem .
Typed the previous line before I saw the Black Friday violence on the News! Wow - how awful.
Gail - sorry your husband is feeling so tired . You are both in my thoughts and prayers
Sheila - have a great time at the O2.
Tres - love and hugs coming your way too.
Tandy - sending love and hugs to you
Off to look for a crafting bargain - but online - it should be less stressful!
    Love to all,

Heather T happy birthday hope you're having a great day.
Gail, sending love and prayers during your husband.

Cheryl, stay focused and get through these treatments, you are a very strong lady to get to the point you are now. LOL
Sandra, gosh wouldn't it be fun if we could all get together, love the idea. I didn't know there was a new grand calibre. Mine can be temperamental, if it's a larger die I have to use a shims sometimes rotateing the die as well to get a perfect cut.
Dear Norah, I thought of you today and had a little tear in my eye. Hubby and I want to tidy up my parents grave, when we had finished.he said I'll leave you to have a chat, I will wait in the car for you. My dad died 30th Dec 1998 and Mum 31 Dec 1999 But I still chat to them and give them all the family news.

sorry it is so late but it has been a day and a half waiting in for folk that haven't shown hilt nor hair like they should have. Anyway, two beautiful cards Sue and even a real card, wow. Laughter and kidding aside Sue, both are crackers but the second one does it for me today as it is just exquisite. Thank you for your beautiful masterpiecesthat bring so much joy to my day as well as everyone else. I hope that you had a great day yesterday for Thanksgiving with your family and friends.
Gail I send you my love, thoughts and prayers for your husband. You have both been through so much this year already and I am sorry that I can't be off more use to you but I am sending you hugs and I will say a wee prayer for you.
Brenda, thank you although how you must have been to lose both your parents within a year must have been so hard for you. They say time is a great healer but I have never found it to be the case. Not looking forward to this Christmas at all as we have had Christmas dinner with mum and dad since I got married and it changed to our house when dad went but it will come and go just like any other day. The fella that I got to put mum up on the stone redid dads wording so that all the gold lettering is the same and he has made a great job of it, really pleased with it.
Happy birthday Heather, I hope that you have had a great day and enjoyed yourself.
OH is getting me a new tablet for Christmas because this one keeps going on the blink and won't charge up. He has ordered one of them fancy ones instead of just a wee cheap one that I us. I just need it to let me read my books on it and see my cards but this is daughter because she has an all singing and dancing one. If he had got a cheap one I could have got some new dies to play with, mmh between kids and men they never actually get me something that I want.oh well never mind, at least I'll be able to look at them from afar,
good night everyone. Sending hugs to all my Angels for everything that you do and hugs to all my angels that are not up to par at the moment,
