Thank You For All You Do

Hi bloggers!  I have used my High-Low technique on this card but with a small twist.  I have used dies instead of a mask.  It isn't difficult to do but it does take a bit of time, but the results are stunning.  From the background up, I embossed a piece of coconut white card using the Quilted Flower embossing folder.  I cut it towards the bottom to create an open area.  I mounted the two background pieces with foam and attached them to a soft gold card piece, leaving room in my channel.  I cut a Heart Striplet in white and glued the edges on either side of my channel.  For the focal element, I covered two pieces of soft gold card with sticky adhesive sheets.  I cut my French Collection Provence die and my Austrian Collection Salzburg die with one pass through the Grand Calibur.  With the addition of the sticky sheets, this is usually just enough to only cut through the backing paper on the sticky sheet.  This is what you want for this technique, but if the die does happen to cut all the way through in spots, just use some tape on the back of the die cut piece before removing it from the die.  Using a pokey tool, just remove the backing paper from the area that would be the fall away pieces of your die, leaving the actual die shape covered.  Once all of the fall away areas have had their backing paper removed, cover with Summer Meadow gilding flakes.  Use a rubit scrubit pad to refine the flakes and remove the excess. This is the "low" part of the technique.   Brush away any excess with a tissue then remove the remaining piece of backing paper, cover with micro beads.  This will give you the "high" part of the technique.  I did this on both die cuts and layered them up with a white oval in between for definition.  I stamped my sentiment and cut it out with the inside oval from the Innsbruck die set.and mounted it in the middle with foam.  I made a flower using the Classic Rose die set, then sponged clear Perfect Medium to the edges and dusted it with gold mica powder.  I seated it on some white tulle and used some Faux Quilled leaves around it for embellishments.    I completed the card with a double white mat and used the Cosmic Shimmer white PVA glue to form dots all the way around the edge.  Finished dimensions are 7 1/2" x 8 1/2" in size.  All for now, Sue x

  2. Morning Sue, The card today is stunning, I really like how you have used both the guilding flakes and the beads together, beautiful. Although I check your blog every day I have not been able to comment much lately, due to work commitments, decorating at home and all of the usual interferences etc, but hopefully we are getting there now and will have a little more free time. But a big thank-you for all your blogs and tutorials, they are really great. Linda.

Ecco Janet (and Lindsay) we too live with a log burner and have never had C.H. apart from at a flat in Cardiff in the 70's - but sometimes think it may not be such a luxury. Just hope now for warmer winters!!

  8. Hi Sue
Lovely card I have been using that striplet a lot since I bought it and used my new checker board EF to make a card for a friends birthday, why is it I can make cards for everyone quickly and ideas just flow but when its for my Mum what ever I make never looks right so I end up doing many cards and choosing one the day before, I have made a 5 star card but now not sure about it.
Gentle hugs for baby Leo and love and hugs to all Wilsonettes and welcome to the new followers you have joined a very happy blog family.
I have had quite a giggle from the honeymoon stories.
Hope everyone is safe after the horrendous weather yesterday we had a mini tornado in the town where I live many trees and cars damaged but as far as I know no one was seriously hurt.
Hubby has dentist today and then a visit to Mum hope everyone has a good day today.
    Love and hugs to all
    Happy crafting

Haven't commented for a couple of days because of family problems and a dear friend lost her mum suddenly yesterday. I was going to mention my first honeymoon 48 years ago. My then father-in-law paid for us to go to Benidorm and we flew out on a propellor plane which had metal floors, very basic and we stayed in the Hotel Victoria, which would you believe was one of only two hotels in Benidorm back then !! On the first morning we went down to the beach and in my ignorance I ran onto the boiling hot sand and burnt my feet so badly that I spent the rest of the honeymoon in bed as I couldn't walk.....I don't know what the hotel staff thought. That marriage didn't last for too many years, but I have now been married to my wonderful second husband for almost forty years.
Today's card is beautiful and I am going to give it a try, a belated congratulations to all last weeks winners.
    Take care everyone

    morning Sue
You never fail to start the week off with a superb gift and today's gift is just that.
It may take a little longer to create and a little fiddly in places but the finish result is more than worth the effort. I love the colours you have used today. They make the gift so elegant/regal. I can just imagine this piece of art framed and on my wall. Ah well I can always hope!

To all you wonderful Wilsonette Sisters who commented yesterday re my eldest daughter not having central heating - there is nothing better than sitting in her kitchen at her well worn kitchen table with the log burner going. I must have given her all my love of past times as until I was 7 we lived in a cottage with only a cold water tap; no electricity or gas (not even calor); black leaded fireplace/oven for mum's cooking; one room upstairs; tin bath in front of the fire and a midden round the back of the house. We were one of four houses in the middle of a wood and all the ladies fetched hot water from the local pumping station at the bottom of the field for Monday wash day.

Now my youngest daughter would definitely not survive without all the luxury of these modern days. You just could not get two sisters so different.

Hope everyone has had a good week-end and ready for the coming week. Take care and see you tomorrow.

  37. Hi Sue. Morning Wilsonettes. I think I remember you explaining this technique on your last visit, about partially cutting through, but even if I re-wrote your instruction everyday as Sam does, I would still need a video tutorial on this method as my lonely remaining brain cell doesnt take in written instruction so well now ! Todays alarm call is nothing other than stunning. It's so pretty and delicate.
Yesterday I made a card using your card from Saturday (forgive me if im wrong) where you used the large die from your Cordoba set and used it as a raised frame for the insert, as I dont have the other die you used, I cut my other die from the Cordoba set and inserted that into the apature, I used a lovely shade of cream with a tiny thin mat of black. The black show's through the die just enough without it 'being in your face' so thank you for helping me to grow over the past few days. I feel Im getting a tiny bit more confident in trying some of your idea's and techniques, apart from today's I dont think I could do it justice !
Ive torn my typing thumb nail off this morning so this has taken an age to type, I dread to think how it would have read had I not had changed all my typo's as Ive been hitting the key's either side and above the letter Ive been aiming for !!!

Welcome to Denise our new Wilsonette Sister, you have joined the nicest craft blog there is.
To Julie and Lee, Pam, Leo, and those ladies that have been given the crulest card yet, Im thinking of you all.
To Our Sue - This sentiment comes back to you tenfold.

To all my lovely caring genuine friends that always find time to answer, or enjoy my day with me - names not needed - Love You.

  38. Hi Sue yet another technique to have a play with although my sticky sheets never seem to cut with one pass! I love today's card though Sue and a great way to use the striplet die ( I too often think oh gosh why didn't I think of that!). The overall effect is wonderful. Have a great day love Diane G xxxx

The bake off went quite well and kitchen was pretty clean and washing up done!! Both went over the top and made checkerboard cakes (round ones where you cut out circles and swap them over) with rose and raspberry and chocolate flavours. The rose was quite overpowering but they both did a good job made marzipan from scratch and topped them with chocolate too. Very fancy. Took 6 hours not 3 so Mary would have gone home by then! There was a lot of laughter and they both had fun and have said they would do it again. Hubby won by 1 point for the look of the cake. We now have 2 cakes to eat!!!! Love Diane xxxxx

Oh boy!!! A lay in till 5:35am this morning before poochies ran around like loonies. Out to the forest do they could use up some of their endless energy.
With all the comments on children's programmes years gone by reminded me of the trouble my twin and I would get into when trying to copy some of the things we saw. One of the most memorable was one evening our parents had gone out visiting relatives leaving my eldest brother in charge of us two. Well we decided that we would be really posh like the people on the telly and make crushed ice to put in all our drinks. Out to the kitchen we go - grabbed mums heavy ( really heavy) wooden rolling pin, a glass that the pin fitted into standing on its end and some ice . We both took turns banging the pin up and down to crush the ice( bet you know what's coming next) . We took the pin out of the glass and lifted it up to get a better look at the results. OMG the bottom of the glass and ice stayed on the counter whilst the rest of the glass was in our hands. When our parents got home we first of all blamed each other ( knowing that usually this meant just telling off cuz they were worried they might blame the wrong one) it didn't work this time cuz the glass we broke was from mums most expensive set . We weren't to know we just chose the glass that fitted the pin. So we then blamed our brother saying it was his fault for not helping us get it right. Needless to say that arguement didn't work either, but at least our parents could see we hadn't been deliberately naughty. Telly was banned for a while if parents went out and we had to keep our brothers room tidy for him as well. I look back now at some of the things my twin sister and I got up to and realise that in comparison my fur babies are indeed angels!!!!. Dad always said we gave him grey hair.

Lol and massive hugs to all.

  106. Good morning(11:45) Sue and my Wilsonette friends,
Today's card has so much to give in the interest stakes with the embossed background and the flakes and micro beaded die cuts. Your heart striplet is probably one of my favourites amongst your dies Sue as i use this one an awful lot, it's just perfect. Another WOW to behold, thank you Sue. I made some of your tiny classic roses die cuts into the most adorable wee roses, so pretty and just so useful to get a match to the big ones.
Welcome Denise to the best blog and friends that you could ever have. And Linda, welcome back.
Awh Steph, i can feel that nail/finger from here, i hope that it isn't gouping as much as it sounds like. Your card sounds beautiful Steph and you have climbed over another hurdle that you never thought you could. Sending you hugs flower.
Janet(Ecco), although we have central heating it is never on as it has to be really cold (a) to warrant it and it only is on in dinningroom and hall as none of like a warm bedroom (b) we put the coal fire back in and it heats up more than just the livingroom. Know what you mean about your youngest daughter as my daughter wouldn't feel right if she didn't have her iphone 5 stuck to her hand or ipad where as my son, he has a wild and wonderful imagination that quite often works to well. Although he likes modern things, he likes old things that he can take to bits and make something else with.
Nanna Tina, i bet your mum will love whatever card you make for her because of that reason alone, you have made it.
Diane, that is going to be a real sacrifice having to eat 2 cakes. If you need any volunteers to dispose of them i'm quite sure we could lend a helping mouth. Glad that good fun was had by both competitors and the kitchen was habitable again afterwards.
Maureen you could be right about landing places as even up here i think they will land up the hills today as we do have a brisk breeze shall we put it, very brisk.
Lynne, Jim and i used to get up to all sorts of dodges as well, but he was worse than me as he pulled me into his latest scheme. But i was the quieter of the two of us and i got blamed for an awful lot i hadn't done and mum used to smack us with her judo slipper and told us to pass it on to the one that had done it but she was making sure she had got the culprit. Oh i used go racing up the stairs and knock 10 bells out of him for me getting scudded when i hadn't done anything wrong. One of the times he decided to cut her judo slipper( those toe post rubber flip flops that they are nowadays)up, only thing was she had it's matching one in the cupboard, so scudded again for trying to get rid of the torture treatment. Then there was the time where he pinched mum's cigarettes, smoked them and hid the evidence in my socks under the mattress in my room. I'll tell you take what he got that night from me the wee sod. Oh the joys of a childhood, but i think most of the time we did deserve a smack but mostly it was his fault.
Sending hugs to all my Wilsonette friends that are having a rough time for whatever reason, to Robbie and his family, and baby Leo gentle hugs
    Love and crafty hugs

  137. Hi Sue,
Love your card for today. I have a few days to catch up on as I was naughty last Thursday and went back to work, (well I need a loft of card stuff) it put me back to square one and unable to do anything and nearly ended up back in hospital. I will do as I am told this time. I have my new craft room but unable to sort it out as doing as I am told and resting. We didn't have a honey moon as husband in army and only given the weekend. We just stayed a night in a local hotel we got married 37 years ago in march and forgot the clocks went forward and when we finally went down to breakfast we got a lot of funny looks I am sure you know what I mean. Hope everyone is well. Love and hugs to all.

Late today, another long day, and have been riding the horses a lot over the last few days, only just got back in the saddle after 4 1/2 break due to being grown and crushing a vertebrae, and trying not to do to much, not succeeding in that though!
Norah and Lynne lovely twin stories today, it's always great to read your posts.
Steph, stop putting your crafting ability down people would not come to the market and buy your cards if they were that bad and lacking in talent. Hope that thumb nail grows again quickly.
News on my stallion, he is now back in permanently as the skin is not growing back, he now also, has to have dressing changes every three days rather than once a week, and have to leave the bandage off for a couple of hours each time to try and get the air to it to dry it out a bit, poor lad.

  159. Hi Sue. A beautiful card today as always !! I really liked yesterday's card to. Both cards used lots of techniques I have learned from you Sue so thank you !! Also both cards contain lots of my favourite crafty items to, especially your beautiful dies Sue.
Sorry Sue but I probably won't be commenting until the end of this week or into next week. I will still be looking in every day though as I love to see all your beautiful cards. Some of our Canadian family have arrived in England this morning !! My Aunt and Uncle that I have never met before !! My Dad and his sister (my aunt) were born just as the war ended. Their father was a Canadian soldier who came to England. After the war he returned to Canada but was unable to take my Nan with him. It was a real true love story as when my Nan passed away we found loads of love letters that my grandad had written to her and she had kept hidden from everyone all her adult life. We were only able to start looking for our family over the past five years or so thanks to the internet. Unfortunately my grandad is now deceased and I never got to meet him but he had two more sons and three daughters, all aunts and uncles with their partners to !! I have also gained ten first cousins to !! We only found our Canadian family when my cousin posted his family tree on Ancestry. My Mum realised straight away that this was the family we were looking for and e-mailed him saying we thought we were related to him. His answer was OH WOW !! He was just gob smacked !! He quickly contacted his Mum who turned out to be my Dads sister !!
I hope you have a lovely crafty week Sue. Sending you lots of love and special hugs love Tres x x x

  161. I like the way you have 'split' the background of this card but not too sure about the gold used for the topper. I like the gold leaf but the beads seem to make the gold look dirty. I think I'd try with maybe a mirri gold or a colour - turquoise might look nice (also for backer behind the striplet).
