Happy Birthday Wishes

Hello crafters!  It's a black and white kind of day today, hope you don't mind!  I must confess that when I can't decide on a colour combo, black and white is my "go to" as I just love the way it looks, which almost always includes some black and black embossing.  I think that has such an elegant look to it!  I started just that way in fact, by stamping the Justrite Floral Lace background using a clear Perfect Medium pad on to black card.  I heat embossed the image with black embossing powder for a crisp look.  I used the Justrite Vintage tag to cut an aperture in the middle of the card (that design is drawn into the centre of the stamp image too so it is easy to line up.)  I cut six of the Heirloom Flourish One die in white and glued them around the edge of my background as an accent.  The side die cuts are slightly overlapped to make them fit along the edge.   On a separate piece of white card, I stamped the Home Bakery Labels tag in black.   I stamped my sentiment on white card and cut it out with Vintage Labels seven.  I cut another of the same die in black, nipped in in half and used it as a shadow behind my sentiment and mounted it with foam for dimension.  I used my Classic Rose die and made a flower which I "sugared" with Iced Snow.  I seated it on a messy bow tied from white seam binding and some white tulle.  I finished the card with a double white mat and some pearls in the corners.  Finished dimensions are 6" x 7" in size.

The winner of this week's card giveaway is:

Dawn Searle!!!

Congratulations!  Please email me at americansue1@gmail.com to confirm your address and claim your card!  All for now, Sue x

  8. Hi Sue - I love that filigree flourish around the edges. I've seen you do another card like that and I admired it then. Gorgeous card. Glad you're all having sun. Rainy with high winds here in Slovakia (serious flooding in parts of the country) so we're having some of what you poor folks have been subjected to. Glad it's good in the UK though. Morning everyone,
WOW!! you just know how to make a card stand out from the crowd, this one is just gorgeous!!
    Congratulations to Dawn, enjoy!!

The sun is out here too and set to be the hottest day so far.

Our builder will be here at 8am so have a few little jobs to do at the allotment then a lounging day watching Julia on an I pad in the garden.
I tried to watch her last night but kept nodding off. Yes I must admit last week was a bit frantic more than the wedding.

James sent me a nice photos of the honeymooners swimming with Dolphins, they are really having a blast!!

Hugs to Norah and Steph and anyone who needs some TLC xxx

I would like to share a little tip which some of you may have already tried. For those with dexterity problems who like to do the paper pricking Sue is famous for, try using a scoring board and a tracing wheel, or Score Buddy. Just run the wheel/Buddy down the required groove on each side of the card and hey presto, you have lovely straight lines, and no aching wrists!!
Wishing you a wonderful weekend Sue, and to all Wilsonettes too.

  99. Good morning Sue and fellow Wilsonettes,
Today's card is so beautiful Sue in the broad black and white. Now i don't normally like so much black, i'm fine with a hint of but not normally full on, but today's card is stunning Sue and i think i would give this to some men as well. I love the wee filigree edging that you have put on down the sides and top and bottom. Is that Becca's, because the brain can't function that great at remembering the now i can't remember if it is or not?
I am sewing up a circular shawl that i finished on Thursday or i'll change that to trying to sew it up. How can you have the same number of rows on each edge and still get to the end with 4rows to spare. I've tried pining it, counting it, and taking a chance on it and still it is not cooperating with me.Eerrr, i am now going to roll the sleeves up on it in warning i mean business and it will sew up how it should or else.
WELL DONE CAMEELI, we had no doubts as we knew just how wonderful you are. Hope you enjoyed the glass of bubbly. I will raise my cup of coffee to your success.CHEERS!!!
Hope you have a lovely birthday today Evelyn. Enjoy your spoiling time that you get hopefully. And Marion's husband as well, Happy birthday to you too and i hope that you have a great day as well.
Well done Dawn, enjoy your mini Sue masterpiece when it comes like i do every day, as it is a continuing source of both pleasure and inspiration.
Brenda, O H just seems to forget everything when he goes into DIY mode, so body a bit shaken up in more than a few places and is complaining when i do silly things like wanting to stand up or walk or sit and joy of joys he is continuing today which means by Monday i am going to be worth nothing. I am not used to this finishing things off that he starts as this is the first time in 26 years on meeting him that he has ever finished something that he started. I hope your sister has many years of enjoyment and happiness in her new home.
Janet(Ecco) its called the internet and home delivery. They do all the hard work and you just need to put it away when it comes, of course there is the other option called sending the family out to do the shopping for you and save your legs and your sanity.
Hilary i got a similar sort of tool, the leather pricking wheel tool that puts the holes in the leather for you sewing, but i will see if it works going down the scoring board, thank you. I will try it folks and report back findings.
Have a great day where ever you are today and enjoy the sun. Our sun has deserted us for the rain but that's ok, once a week we don't mind as long as it is once. Thinking of our special friends who need our caring thoughts and prayers but i hope that even if there is no sun outside, you have some inside to help you.
    Love and crafty hugs
    Norah (Glenochil)

It's a beautiful morning here in sunny Oxfordshire.
Sue I love the monochrome card today, I just love the monochrome look, so classy. That filigree die is really pretty, I hadn't noticed how delicate it was until you used it in that way, it's funny how a different angle or view of something can totally change your opinion.
Congratulations Dawn, you will treasure the card I am sure.
Cameeli , I didn't expect anything less, you are a very dedicated lady, relax and chill today in the garden, don't forget your sun block though, don't want burnt extremities!,
Norah, glad you survived the DIY , just make out you are too busy to help today else you will have one very painful week next week!

Gail C. Really hope a good care plan is soon put into place for you all. You really are in my thoughts as is ALL your family particular your dear brother.

Sue, what an amazing Saturday offering, I love mono and it always looks really really classie, I have many mono cards and they always go down well for both male/female cards. I adore the die peeking from the sides, it just takes your focal point in 2 directions, the beautiful Sue bow plus your central element, unfortunatly non of the dies I have will allow me to do that, just need to add it to my list : )

Not long back from our daughters 1st bridal gown fitting, and the tear's burnt my eyes (again)
So its back to my craft table then prep up ready for the big summer farmers market tomorrow, thank goodness its going to be another sunny day, as tomorrow Im outside ! The question is - gloves or no gloves ?!

Have a beautiful day Sue. Hope all our family here have a good day.
Love to Pam and caring hugs to all that need one.

I was so looking forward to working in the garden this afternoon but the weather has other ideas. Coming home earlier I saw rain had stopped play as the local cricketers ran for cover. Oh well, there is always tomorrow :) If you have sunshine, enjoy it and for those of us less fortunate well, it's a good excuse to craft!

  133. Hi Sue , adore this card. Love the black/black emboss and the filigree edge peeking out. A masterpiece. Hoping all well across the sea back come back soon getting SWWS ( Sue Wilson withdrawal symptoms) lol lynne m x x

Feeling better today so hubby was to look after poochies while I escaped to my craftroom. Why didn't that work !! , well hubby decided that the grass needef cutting again as getting too long for his precious poochies . Needless to say , I came downstairs to get a drink to find the lounge and kitchen covered in clumps of newly cut grass. The culprit was Tilly cuz her mouth was green instead of white, asked hubby what his definition was of "looking after poochies" - his reply was that they were just being playful!!!. Aaarrrrggghhhh now before anymore crafting I have hoover again and try to catch Tilly ( oh look mums playing catch) to clean her up as well. What is the saying " God grant me patience but quick " . That so applies today.
Love to all my friends on this blog, may the weekend be bright for you even if the weather isn't lol lynne & fur babies x x x

  138. Hi Sue

I love black and white out of all the monochromes, it can be masculine or feminine, for young and not so young recipients and lots of variations. It's also a goody if you can't afford a lot of different colours of inks and papers or the stash is low and you need to pop out a batch in a hurry! A lot of these products are on my 'neeeed' list, especially the lace background. You've shown monochrome and these products at their very best.

The blog emails have again been lovely to recieve, some awesome cards to enjoy and have really made my day to look at.

Got a big furry boy making some very funny noises next to me, guess he wants something!

The foals are all loving this weather the younger three have spent most of the day flat out hiding in the long grass giving me heart attacks each time I go out as I can't see them. Lynne so pleased the pooches were good for you yesterday while you were feeling poorly but nice to hear they are back to their usual antics now. Gail I do hope a suitable plan is put together very soon for your brother gentle hugs to all your family. Cameeli well we all knew you could do it, so now just kick back and relax. Steph sorry to hear your eyes were leaking at the fitting, you will be one very proud lady on the big day, hope you are getting all that crafting done ready for tomorrow. Norah take things easy and don't let the OH work you too hard. Happy birthday to our two birthday people today and hope your days go well.
