Elegant Bow Tie

Hi bloggers!  Another two-fer today!  The first card has the video explanation and you can scroll down to see the second card and how to explanation.

Buy from Joanna Sheen

Finished dimensions are 8" x 8" in size.

For the second card I have selected this cute handbag card which I did using the same paper piecing technique as yesterday's card.  I picked some papers from the Teresa Collins paper pad for my layout.  The peach polka dot paper was simple enough that I was able to stamp my sentiment in the lower corner in black.  I added a strip of darker paper as an accent and used the Decorative Labels Eight along one edge to dress it up.  I cut the Gold Labels Four in two sizes to use as my backdrop for my handbag and inked them both lightly with Tattered Rose.  I stacked them both horizontally across the top of the card.  I stamped the handbag onto a coordinating paper from the pad and cut out everything but the handle.  I stamped it again on to milk card and cut out the entire image and glued the handbag to the top.  I used some tiny dots of PVA glue along the handle and clasp.  I cut several flowers out of felt and inked the edges with Tattered Rose distress ink before assembling them. I used black flatback pearls for the centres.   I added them around the handbag with some black jute as an accent.  I matted the piece with a thin black mat before adding a double milk coloured mat with an inner pierced layer.  Finished dimensions are 6" x 7"
in size.  All for now, Sue x

Just inspired!! what a beautiful, elegant cards love number 2... Sue you just keep surprising and spoiling us

Sandra glad to hear that Milo is on the mend. Bella obviously wants to let him know she is in charge!!

Tres sorry about the water in your kitchen, but even if you you pay for professionals they sometimes get it wrong, I once had a whole kitchen tiled and the grapes were put on upside down?? hope you are drying out now.

Sorry that in the news last night to hear that Maya Angelou passed away, she was a very wise and inspirational woman.
Hugs to Pam, Tres Norah, Sandra and anyone who needs.
    Have a fund day!!

  11. Good Morning, Sue. Two very different and stylish cards.
    Love card No 2.

Another grey start to the day. Will wait and see if it brightens up later, before walking my trio.
We were late going out yesterday, but the upside was the tide was starting to come in on the Estuary, so Holly and Merlin enjoyed their swims and forays in and out of the water. My son and daughter-in-law came to join us with their dog too : - )

Best Wishes to all, especially Lynne M and fellow 'Fur Baby' mum's and to all the precious 'Fur Babies' X x

  13. Hi Sue. Another two-fer...wonderful : ) The card on the video is lovely, the smaller print papers are gorgeous and so handy. It was interesting to see how long you left the Cosmic Shimmer Dries Clear glue on the bows to go tacky. If I leave mine(same glue) that long it would be totally dry!Great tip about using our acrylic blocks, thank you : ) Love the second card too, again with gorgeous papers, a great ladies card.
Sending Pam her daily hug, and one for everyone that is in need for whatever reason.
Julie laz, so sorry to hear that you are still suffering, I hope that you start to get better very soon. What a lovely husband you have, it's very kind of him to type your comments.
Lorraine, good luck with the cats!
Tres, sorry to hear that the kitchen got a soaking but can just picture one very wet husband!
Norah, I am hoping your hills are showing more today, I won't push and ask if there is sun on them too as I doubt it very much! Glad your daughter had a rethink about the job. We used to stay in Wormwood Scrubs staff quarters with my sister-in-laws fiance sometimes and it was just endless of locking/unlocking doors, and that was in the staff quarters! RIP Maya Angelou, a wonderful woman.
Have a good day everyone. Take care.

    morning Sue
I am so pleased that I don't have to choose from today's gifts. Both are really very very pretty and are equally special in their own way.
I have the filigree set of bows and find my fingers reaching for them time after time as they are so so gorgeous.
I bought the complete set of handbags from one of Julia's shows but find difficulty in using them. I suppose it's because I don't favour itemised gifts. So after seeing today's second gift perhaps I'll have another go setting them in different surroundings.
We are still wet and very dull here. Where oh where has that beautiful spring weather gone we were having last week!!!
Take care everyone and see you tomorrow.

  78. Good morning Sue and fellow Wilsonettes,
Granada must be my all time favourite one of your whole collection and with the extra die around Seville to cut the mat and layers out. Those two from the Spanish collection are my all time go to's.Sorry Sue the wee pattern goes for my eyes sending them into more orbits than normal, which is saying something. I love the layout, but i will try it with an embossed background instead i think.
Lindsay, if the first vet didn't look as close as was obviously needed, i think you should give him a by flower.I hope your wee stallion is feeling a whole lot better soon. It is NOT your fault as you love your animals to bits. Stick with the new vet.
Mr Laz, thank you for letting us know how Julie is and for keeping her upto date on what is happening here. I hope that Julie is able to see again soon, but we are here for her when she is better again. Please let her know that we are sending her some much needed hugs and wee prayers that she can feel better soon.
Tres, it took me 23 years to train my hubby in the art of not making a dogs dinner of any repairs and it is finally working, although for the first 2 decades it has cost us 3x the amount than it should have because of his DIY skills. I am only glad that your hubby didn't get electrocuted when the drill went in to the water pipe. If it will make you feel better the man across the road is just as bad. He decided to make his kitchen and diningroom into one and took away ...yes the supporting wall and the bedrooms upstairs came downstairs to meet him. Hope this little ditty lets hubby off the hook and shows it could have been worse. I hope that you can get the kitchen back to normal soon.
Lorraine, try the PDSA for help with getting the wee cats spayed and neutred as they are a charity that was set up for the good of all animals. You have probably tried them amongst the others but in case you haven't.
Joanna, i hope that the doctor can help you soon flower as it is bad enough living with one debilitating illness, but it just seems to make it 10 times harder when you get floored with another on top. I'm thinking of you flower as are your other Wilsonettes family, i hope that relief comes soon for you.
Patricia, have a great time away with Hazel and enjoy your holiday. Let us know when you come back what it was like for us who can only dream of one.
You know i sometimes find life very funny. I have had fine, poker straight hair all my life until grey intervened. Now i not only have thick hair, i also have waves, which when i look back on the rollers with the wire bristle through the middle, that mum used to put in my hair at night for it to give me a headache, couldn't sleep, they needed ripped out in the morning with half my hair attached to it, for 10 mins later it would be back to poker straight with not even a hint of a wave never mind a curl. My hair is sitting today like it has never in it's life before, and because i want it to look like this on Saturday for the wee lass' party will it go like this...will it dan. The irony of being a hairdresser and not being able to do my own has never been lost on me. Aw well, fingers crossed as i got one of those Babyliss Secret Curl, so lets see if it will work and if it does, how long it will stay in for. All bets can now be placed, LOL.
We have a cold, not so nice day up here today, so other than the post office and to get mum shopping i will be back in the house with the fire me thinks. Take care everyone, with special gentle hugs to our more fragile friends that need that wee bit extra shoulder. I hope that even if the sun isn't shining for you outside, i hope that it's gentle rays can shine from within. Hopefully i will see you all tomorrow.
    Love and crafty hugs

  90. Hi Sue and all Wilsonettes. 2 outstanding cards for us to help bring sunshine into our dull grey damp day ! Oh for sum Floridan warmth. Will watch the tutorial after my lovely man has finished with the hoover as Im a little 'floored' at the moment, maybe time to take the 'magic potion' !! That'll show my body who's in charge !! Julie - Im so sorry to read you are so unwell, thank you Mr Laz for caring. TDQ - that C word (banned) lol I was hoping to get to the big Bolton show this weekend just to take my mind off going into hospital on the 3rd but my bank statement says otherwise, so Phill will just have to wait till next year before he meets me lol, laughter is a great drug : )
Im really suprised I love card 2 as the bags and purses were never one of my great loves when I saw them on Julias blog, but using them with decorative paper gives them the W.O.W factor and has changed my mind completly about them.
They are both stunning, and your bow is an adorable addition to any card Sue.
Patricia and Hazel have a lovely holiday in the sun (lucky ladies)
Tina - you are in my thoughts sweetheart, hoping that you and your family are sharing the love and closeness you are lucky to have.
    Pam - caring hugs chick.

To all my lovely family here, an abundance of hugs to give today to those that want one.
Cant wait to watch the video and look forward to opening the Particraft door in the morning.

  115. Hi Sue. Ooooh both of these cards are so lovely today !! As always Sue, your video was just fab !! I so very much enjoy video days. Full of useful hints and tips, and great to be able to actually see you making a card instead of just written instructions. It is so much easier for my brain to work it all out !! I really love the first card. I have the Granada die and it is one of my favourite dies at the moment. I love, love, love the classic bow die and I have this die too. Yaaah !! At the moment I am making two Fathers Day cards using my new Calabria die and the polished silk glitters. I have not finished them yet but I left the first one all night and looked at my finished dried glitter this morning and WOW !! What fantastic results. I am so pleased !! I can't wait to make the second one now just to see the result of the other finished glitter design too !!
The second card is also really lovely Sue. I love the papers you have used and how you have made the handbag. The felt flowers are gorgeous !! I am so glad you did not ask us to choose between the two cards today because I think they are both so lovely.
I hope you are still having a good time with your family Sue. I expect you have better weather than we do here in England at the moment !! Sending lots of love to you Sue and family love Tres x x x
To Julie Laz, I am sorry you are so unwell at the moment. I hope things get better for you soon. Your husband is so kind to step in and blog for you. Wishing you lots of love, Tres x x x
To Steph, Norah, Lynne M and Tilly and Cully, Myra, Cameeli, Lyndsey Martin, Linda Brock, Pam and all the wonderful people on this blog, I hope everyone has a lovely day today. Lots of love and hugs from Tres x x x

  124. Good afternoon Sue & lovely Blog Friends,
Oh Sue 2 treats today, my favourite is definitely the first card, I am a sucker for neat and tidy and organised cards, also I am in love with your bows, I stick them on everything, perfect for when you don't have matching ribbon, the second card is gorgeous too, I would be very happy to receive either.
The thing I would most like to receive though is my replacement GRand Calibur, nearly 3 months on and still no sign!
Milo is running round like a wild thing again , thank goodness, back to vets tonight to check up and get more antibiotics, KERCHING! Mire money I can't spend on craft stash! These vets sure get good money, we were there for 10 minutes tops on Tuesday £30, that's a pretty good hourly rate! Worth it though!
Thanks Cameeli for your kind words, Bella is definitely the boss, although a lot smaller, I think she was the tiniest one in the litter, their previous owner used to put one bowl of food out for all of them and I think she got pushed out rather a lot, seemed a funny way of feeding, but they gave their own bowls now so she is gaining weight! Although we are battling at the moment as everyone seems to think that they can only survive and have a healthy life if they gave dry food, we have weaned them off the super cheap stuff that they were on, but was is this obsession with dry food?! The stuff at the vets is extortionate, I could buy Half of Sue's collection for two bags! When we had cats growing up there was no Kitten food. Kitten milk. Senior food etc, it was kite kat or whiskas end of story, I think it's all a big prick your conscience into paying out more money! Bit like the Baby milk carry on these days, follow on milk. Toddler milk etc, mine went from breast to cows milk! Anyway rant over, sorry!
Hugs to all of you lovely ladies,
    Crafty hugs

Love your tutorials. I am new to your blog and your youtube videos. What size are your cards? They seem so much larger then the ones I make. Especially love the bow on the first card.

  126. Hi Sue,
A real treat today with a two-fer. Both elegant, but different. The first is obviously a classic colour combo, very smartly dressed with a dickie bow. The die cutting is so detailed, yet doesn't look too fussy.
The second card is a girlie's dream, the labels die cuts really make a feature out of the handbag stamp. The card stands out even though the colours are very subtle and muted.

  132. Hi Sue, and the Wilsonettes.
What a treat. I love both cards but have got to confess I have a massive soft spot for your new dies. I've managed to buy a few over the last couple of months and seem to be drawn to the Spanish collection though do love them all. I actually made a card myself and kept thinking that it didn't look finished. It's the bow tie that was missing lol.
I'm starting to feel a bit better today which is a godsend with going to Bolton tomorrow for the workshop day. I'm so looking forward to it. Saturday is a shopping day at Bolton too so I should imagine I'll need the rest on Sunday lol.
Thanks again to Norah for thinking of.me. It is so nice of you.
Hope you all enjoy your day whatever it is your doing.

  135. Two delightful cards today and both quite different. The little bag is so cute and I love paper piecing too.
Heard that you and Julia are coming to Scotland and was hoping it wasn't just to Aberdeen as its too far for the majority of crafters who live in Edinburgh/Glasgow and was wondering if you had considered somewhere else more central in Scotland. There is a fantastic large craft shop In Hillington Glasgow called Craftworld and I know Jodie from Tonic was there a few weeks ago and loved it. Its just that Aberdeen is so far up for most of us to travel to, what about a visit to Hobbycraft at the SECC???????

  153. Hi Sue,
    Hi to all crafting friends!
I'm very late today! More of that later. First things first! Sue I love both today's beautiful cards. As has been said by others I too resisted buying handbag cards as they seemed a bit limiting! Well just introduce Sue and limiting becomes limitless! One of your greatest gifts is that you can transform the mundane into the exquisite ! We have "Designer" bag at no extra cost! Genius!
Today been shopping with friend and her daughter! I'm totally jiggered! I have sons so shopping with daughters is a shock! Now I begin to understand how my Mum felt. However dress to wear to a wedding now bought! It took only 6 hours !!
Sandra glad little Milo is better. Hope he doesn't need too much more medication. so pleased you said you had a little rant - I'm looking for company on the rant front!
Norah, men and DIY , enough said! x
Steph - had thought about Bolton Show but just too busy tomorrow. I need to save pennies ( ha ha) for what needs to be done in my kitchen . You take care!
Will be thinking of you on 3rd. x
Love to all crafting friends on this lovely blog.
Julie a special night night! x

  158. Hi Sue,
Two FAB cards for us today, the first one (and video) is gorgeous love the classic bow, the second is a really girls card - LOVE both of them, thank you.
Still with the grandchildren and enjoying time with them, have also been gardening and helping daughter make display boards for her church. I have been using Californian Border Die to edge the boards. Sue have you realised if you cut the boarder die out and then cut another boarder alongside the first (as close as possible) with the deep scallop facing you have a Holly strip? - I now have quite a few Holly strips, now need to work out if I can use them when I make C.......s (sorry I know it very early) cards.
Crafty hugs to everyone, love Brenda xxx
