Celebrate

Hi bloggers!  Tan, taupe and black and the Cascading Fern background stamp are the mains for this card.  I stamped it in black on tan cardstock.  I left a small edge on it and then cut a piece of black card as a mat.  I decided to bling up the edges with some of the new Midnight Snow so I laid a bead of Cosmic Shimmer dries clear glue all the way around the edge and coated it with the Midnight Snow and left it to dry.  Next I cut an aperture in the middle of the stamped background.  I stamped the Cascading fern again, but this time on black card using a clear Perfect Medium pad.  I heat embossed it with black powder for a tone on tone look.  I mounted the background on foam and centred it over my tonal version.  I wanted to accentuate the opening a bit more so I used the Cupcake stand Label die with the Vintage tag on the inside to create a frame.  I mounted it on foam and placed it over the aperture.  Next I used the Nested Cloud die set and cut a very thin frame out of the two largest sized dies using black card.  I glued it over my frame for a bit of extra detail and added flatback pearls to the scallops.  I wanted to add a small floral element so I made three small melted satin flowers from some black satin ribbon.  I glued two pieces together for each flower and added a pearl to the centres.  I seated them on some gold tulle and made two stick pins to match my card.  Finally, the backing mats were added out of taupe and black card with my usual pierced layer on the inside.  Finished dimensions are 6 1/4" x 7 1/2" in size.

Now for the winner of the Wednesday card giveaway!  The card goes to:

Sheila Lampard!!!

Today's gift is not ringing any bells with me. I'm not a lover of black/tan - don't getl me wrong I like monochrome and some black but there's just a little too much for me today.
I like the format and shall by trying it out in some other colours.

Hope everyone is having a good week-end. It's my last here in Burgundy until June and so lots of little jobs to do.

  117. Hi Sue. A beautiful card today !! I love the mix of different dies. They all look great together. Unfortunately I do not have any of them. The vintage tag die is on my wish list though as I really like this unusual shape and I think it would be big enough to fit various sized sentiments inside it and other larger toppers to. (ie flowers ect.) Well I know some of us don't like the colours used, but personally I think the card looks lovely and I do really like these colours together. As always, fab stick pins !! My faux quilled leaves dies have arrived from Joanna Sheen this morning. They are Sooo cute !! I will definitely be having a play with them over the weekend. I hope you are having a great time with your family Sue.
To all the Wilsonettes, I hope everyone is ok today. Take care everyone and stay safe. Lots of love. Tres x x x

Didn't that used to be an alcoholic drink some years back? i think that your stick pins are so pretty and i really must give them a go as I have lots of beads which I have collected over the years and never done anything with them. However I have tried your melted satin flowers and was really pleased with how they turned out. Thank you for all your hints and tips they really are appreciated. Have a great weekend everyone and congrats to Sheila. Hugs Pauline A x

  132. Hi Sue

Hope you're enjoying your break with your Mom and family. Another stunning card! I finally made up my mind and now have 2 of the 3 Sue Wilson dies I ordered after my last post, can't wait till I'm up to going in the craft (half a) room to see if I have learnt anything in the last week and a bit! At least I can take my phone and have your blog to help me while I'm in there. I love tone on tone and although I don't have the exact dies/stamps (the fern background is now on my wishlist! ) I have similar so I'll see if I can give it a go soon as I feel well enough or can stay awake long enough to sit up the table- but those new dies are a tremendous motivation!

What an elegant card, I can't decide if it's girly or not, the colour combo could be quite masculine but with the delicate cascading fern stamp and pretty (albeit black) flowers it would be great for a couple. I must get me some of that midnight snow, it's lush!
    Have a great weekend.

  153. Hi Sue, certainly a striking card today but I'm afraid it doesn't strike a chord with me. Not sure why, maybe just the colours.

Congratulations on winning a card Sheila, I bet seeing your name made you feel loads better straight away.

Pauline A - a black and tan is half and half Guinness (or a.n.other stout) and bitter. It used to be very popular in the 60's & 70's in the London area but I expect it has gone out of fashion now.

The sun has just come out for the first time today but the sky is still very black, I am sure there is rain on it's way.

  178. Another fabulous card Sue - love the look of the midnight snow - love the name too. Congratulations to Sheila - as a past card winner I know how excited you are feeling and when you receive it I know you will treasure it as much as I do mine. Thank you too to all my well wishers for my ukulele concert last night - we had a blast - raised lots of dosh for Practical Action so had a wonderful time. Then as if I hadn't had enough excitment (isn't it strange when it all comes at once) I went to a Mad Hatters Tea Party this afternoon with my lovely daughter at our local village hall, run by the British Legion - where we wore very daft hats and won a bottle of sherry in the raffle! Now just off to a Jazz evening in Henley - yet another charity night. Would have a rest tomorrow but must get gardening again -so much to do so hope it's not going to rain. Hugs and love to all. X

  181. Good evening Sue,
Sorry Sue, bad day and just so tired that i never got to the commenting part today. Although not my colour scheme, i would love to try out your wonderful creation on different coloured card stock. I can vision your beautiful card in another version of colours, so maybe if awake long enough tomorrow i might be able to have a go.
Janice W, a very Happy Birthday flower today on you 60th. Now you're just about reaching middle age soon and i hope that you have had a lovely day.
Tracy Stitt, you poor thing. Sciatica is so very painful from experience that i hope you truely get relief soon. Did you try the hot and cold treatment or the old fashion cure...the hot water bottle. I do hope you feel better tomorrow and are up to playing, sorry working intensely on your cards that you need to make. Ann in France you seem to be having a time of it also this weather. I hope that the small stroke that you had, has passed and you are back to yourself soon, but please don't go mad with everything as we don't want you taking a worse one. Helen k, let your lovely husband look after you for a change and behave. What a fright you must have got not to mention your poor hubby. Did he call in the doctor to check you over as you do not faint for no reason and certainly not twice within a matter of minutes. Try and enjoy your enforced rest, as being of the nature to have regular meeting with my friends the floor, bottom of the stair that i had been at the top of beforehand and the pavement, they can get to be not very nice in the friendship department, i can tell you as even the dog gets itself worked up at me lying there.
Oh Janet, i must apologise flower, i could not find you anywhere so had no idea about your beloved father in law. I am sending you gentle hugs for you and your family along with my deepest sympathy. I hope that your family can get through one day at a time but know that all us Wilsonettes are thinking of you as we are for our lovely Pam who is i really hope getting stronger by the day.
Tina, thinking of your father and hope he is coming back to normal and the infection is lifting.
From an absolutely cracking day here at the Ochil Hills i wish you all love and see you tomorrow hopefully,
    Love and crafty hugs
