Time Enough

Hi crafters!   A black and gold card today, which, to me,  is a combination that always has an elegance to it.  I know I am probably in the minority where black on cards is concerned, but I do love it.  Rather than thinking of it as a dark colour, see it as a way to make your colours pop a bit more.  Mica's and gilding flakes look smashing against a black backdrop especially, you shouldn't discount it from your crafting arsenal!  I started this card by using the Tied Together embossing folder to emboss my soft gold card.  I wanted a larger background so I extended the pattern to cover the area, easily done since the pattern repeats.  I used some black satin ribbon and ran a piece vertically around my card and taped the ends to the back.  I tied a double bow and added it at the bottom with sticky glue dots (I should have used one under that lopsided loop!)  I added a black crystal sparkler to the centre and made some pretty stick pins to match.  For the focal element, I stamped the Hydrangea label shape using a clear Perfect Medium pad onto black card.  I heat embossed it with gold detail powder and cut it out with the matching Vintage Labels Seven die by Justrite.  I stamped it a second time, embossed it as well and hand cut just the centre part of the label.  Using some purple and yellow mica powders, I made a paint by adding a small amount of water and painted the flowers.  I added the piece with a bit of foam mounting tape to the centre of the larger label shape and added both pieces to my card with another piece of foam.  I stamped the butterfly from the set twice on soft gold card and gold embossed it.  I cut them both out by hand and added them to the label, leaving the wings free for movement.  Finally, I added small 3mm black pearls to all the intersections on the embossed background and matted the piece with a thin black mat.  A double pierced gold mat was all that was needed to finish this one off nicely. The finished dimensions are 6 1/2" x 7 1/2" in size.

  32. Wonderfully elegant card, Sue, and especially with TT folder whose sales you single-handedly escalated to fever pitch! Always like using black, perhaps too much, but hey doing a sunny yellow Mothering Sunday card for my 101 year old aunt, the last of her generation and my late Mum's next sister up. Using your e.striplet and masses of majestic blooms (yes! I have finally conquered the big fear of big stamps - it wasn't hard at all in the end.)

I like todays card Sue, it is just so lovely with the black popping up to say hello. Your stick pin really matches so well with the colour of mica powders you have chosen to use. A beautiful card all round. I have now got black card because of your fascination or should that be obsession? i wonder? I am going to try it out anyway later when i come back and see what bin disasters i can come up with.
"P" in Wales, oh how wonderful it must be to have such a precious person to visit. Your aunt will be so happy at her visit when you take the Mothers Day card to her. I had a very dear aunt who was in her 90's and she was so funny, and the stories from her past made her a delight to listen to, not to mention the actions that went with them. I laugh so much at my aunt because the scenes that went through your head at the telling of the story last a lifetime. She used to do all her housework before the home help came in just because she wasn't having her think she was a midden and lived in a dirty house. Now the meer thought of aunties house being anything bar spotless was just never even a consideration. The lassie came in and would go her dinger at here because that was what she was there for and auntie was just out of hospital with a heart attack yet again. Oh the fun we had at aunties as she couldn't have children of her own, and she just loved them. She had all the school children from the various schools and faiths popping in and their respective ministers/ fathers/ etc. all loved her.
Do you ever wish that your children could have been around to know that someone special from your younger years? Answers on a postcard to the Ochil Hills Nut.

  111. Very pretty! I use a lot of black card myself to make things 'pop' but it's not always easy to find in shops! I was in a huge craft shop the other day (in fact, it has spread to two shops now) in Llandudno and there was no black card in there at all.

  115. Hi Sue. WOW !! This card is gorgeous !! I really love the black and gold together. It looks very classy and elegant. the labels seven and the Hydranga stamps look beautiful. The mica powders on the black card just look fab !! I really love the black bow and the stick pins are beautiful Sue !! The tied together background folder looks great but I just cannot get the hang of extending the pattern on a smaller folder. (brain fog is one of my biggest problems with this illness.) I say and do all kinds of silly daft things and people think I am mad !!
I love the new labels seven dies and stamps, but I love your new dies, stamps and embossing folders to Sue !!
I cannot afford everything and I cannot choose either !! I am stuck !! Thank you Sue for sharing this gorgeous card with us today. Sorry I did not comment yesterday but I was unwell.

Totally agree Sue, the black just makes it pop and can finish a card nicely, love this one, I don't have the hydrangea stamps but do love the look if them, although I have just seen your new stamps to die for , and love the scenes so have to decide what to buy, I think most probably the latter. Well done Myra P you lucky lady, have a good day everyone. Xx
