Butterflies

Good morning friends!  I couldn't resist making one of those long skinny style cards I like.  I thought this big butterfly stamp from Justrite would look perfect that way.  Notice, not a single die cut either!  This truly is a quick card to make even with the little bit of fussy cutting!  I started with a piece of decorative kraft card from Canvas Corp.  It already has the pretty white pattern on it so the background was sorted.  I matted it on black card to give it a bit of a frame.  Next,  I stamped the butterfly from Justrite three times vertically in a row using a black Archival ink pad.  I went around the outside of each of the images with a soft blue pencil for a shadow.  I used Distress markers to colour each one (Peacock Feathers, Picked Raspberry and Seedless Preserves)and softened the colour a bit with a wet paintbrush.  I then stamped the butterflies again on white card with the black archival and then heat embossed them with clear embossing powder.  I coloured each one again with the same colours and cut them out by hand.  I did not cut around the antennae, but rather just let the ones from the background show against these butterflies that were going to be  mounted above them.  I attached each of the butterflies using Cosmic Shimmer dries clear glue on the body only, leaving the wings to be shaped and lifted.  I used a bit of white pencil as highlights around the body and on parts of the wings.  Finally I finished with a double white mat and I used Cosmic Shimmer white PVA glue dots all the way around the edge to frame and finish my card.  Finished dimensions are 5 3/4" x 10 3/4" in size.

Some of you might already know this, but Phill Martin has joined the Creative Expressions team and he will be doing his first C & C shows for us today at 9am and 4pm.  He will also be premiering his new line of stamps called "Sentimentally Yours," which Creative Expressions will be distributing for to our stockists.  Phill is a very talented crafter and a really great guy so it is lovely to have him on board.  I hope you can tune in today to see his first shows for us!    All for now, Sue x

    Good morning Sue,
This is a beautiful card yet again. I don't have the JR butterflies but plenty of others (stamps and dies), so shall definitely do something like this.
It really works with not bothering to cut out the antennae, I have tried in the past and it just looks a mess.
    Thank you for sharing.
And a very warm greeting to Pam, so good to see you back. You are going through a very bleak phase in your life, but I truly think that sharing Sue's wonderful blog with us will give you some measure of comfort.
And Sue, I shall certainly be tuning in to C&C to see what Phil's coming up with.

  104. Good morning Sue,
I like your different card this morning with the lovely butterflies on it. The colours you have used just seem to work for them lovely. A definite change for you Sue and fussy cutting as well, my you are getting bold. I am not sure who this would suit, but there is definitely something i just like about. Thank you for the inspiration that you continue to inspire us with each day.
Well i had a great time yesterday at the SECC and as always or so i thought, there was the 2 halls. The normal one that has the part that we love was cut down this year with the smaller leg made into extra seating for breaks. But the other hall had most of it dedicated to us crafties with the remaining part of the craft show and just the smallest smattering of what is normally there (the already made, just buy stuff which is not for craft shows. coats and the like) so i was really surprised. That is the hall that gets 20mins in the scooter if its lucky normally. Never met any of my WOW's there at all, never mind.
Sarah (fame01) i hope that your poor mum is going to be ok from her horror ordeal of yesterday. She is just at that vulnerable age, that it will take her a long time to mend. Please let her know that all your friends here in Wilsonland are thinking of her and praying that she is better soon. It seems strange at saying she's just at that age, a bit like every time there was something gone wrong with us when we were wee, we were always just at that tricky age.
To Pam and June who are both going through the worst time imaginable, i send my thoughts and prayers, my love and hugs that if i were with you i would give with the shoulder. I can't imagine what you are going through, i can only tell you that having very special friends and your family beside you can help to ease your heartache. I am still picking my mum up from my dad and my twin brother 6yrs and 27 yrs respectively. You will never understand why, but hopefully you will be able to come to terms with your loss. We are here for both of you when you need us.
From a very cold but sunny day up here at my Ochils i wish you all a good day and hopefully see you tomorrow.
    Love and crafty hugs
    Norah (Glenochil)

  105. Good morning Sue,
Simply stunning card today, a perfect example of 'less is more' !
Phil Martin will be an amazing addition to the fantastically inspirational Creative Expressions Team, those sentiments he has created are lovely, sometimes finding the right thing to say is very hard but those sentiments will be a great help .
Pam you are in the right place, sometimes you just need a distraction from the harshness of reality and to lose yourself in crafting is a brilliant help, Sue's lovely blog followers are so very thoughtful too, sometimes it's just nice to know that somebody cares.
    Hugs to all,
    Sandra xx

  108. Hi Sue and fellow followers. Visiting the blog has been a bit hit or miss the last couple of weeks, not my usual daily fix. Sorry I haven't been able to comment daily. I'm having surgery on Friday and have been busy preparing. 14 weeks in a leg cast will slow me down for a while! On the plus side I will have more time sitting around to blog.
I think the butterfly stamp is exquisite. It reminds me of the framed real butterflies you used to see in the 70's '- although this is more PC.
Sounds like lots of changes at CE.

Pam - I have had more than my fair share of grieving to deal with. Don't expect too much of youself and allow yourself plenty time. Your loss will be with you every day but time will help you cope with it. X

  154. Hi Sue, Today's Card is one of the many reason's I Just Truly Love your Work because things are never the same from one day to the other, and you share so many exciting Fabulous Outstanding Techniques, I Truly Love this Butterfly but then who doesn't love Butterflies they are just so Majical, I have ordered this Stamp but have to wait a few days, I love the Colours you have chosen, and the way you have decoupaged them. I can remember at the beging of the year you mentioned a lot of you're work in the coming year would be out of your safety zone, but this is exactly what I love about your work you'll give anything a try and it's always Tremendous.
Well I must say I only watch Create and Craft now when either YOURSELF or Julia, or Sam or Hels is on, as I find Create and Craft and The Presenters very Boring, but when you guys from "Creative Expressions come on you bring it to life with your Awesome Demo's etc.
"BUT NOW" I'm Absolutely Thrilled that such a "Wonderful Character like Phill Martin" has joined up with a "Truly Superb Company of Creative Expression" what a Fantastic team, I love his attitude, I'm thrilled he's doing thinks he loves the best which is Stamping, Colouring, Gilding Flakes and so many other things, I'm Thrilled he will be at Ally Pally this year also.
Take Care Sue Love and Hugs from Sam x
To all the Wonderful Wilsonettes, Pam I'm thinking of you, I hope all you wonderful ladies have enjoyed the sunshine, I decided it was time to throw those Windows open and do some Spring Cleaning and you know when you start and WISH you hadn't well that was the case today.

  160. Hi Sue and beautiful Wilsonettes. What a W.O.W (wonder of Wilson) to our new 'crafty crew' as our Cameeli calls us. I love butterflies (couldnt go to a butterfly house though, think id drop to the floor if one landed on me) ! But I planted a Buddlia 2yrs ago otherwise known as the butterfly plant, sometimes you cant see the flowers for butterflies, such a wonderful thing to watch.
I must say this is the first long tall card Ive seen you show Sue, and again, its amazing. Im soooooo pleased Phil has joined the team, not only is he great fun, (especially with Dean to egg him on) but I love his work, his talant has been wasted in the past I agree, and such a lovely face : ) in fact double eye candy earlier - did I just say that ?! : 0
I only tend to tune into our fav brand shows now and we all know the vast amount of stamps/dies we adore, but never enough hours are given to our favs (do a deal with the 'other channal) Sue and get ALL your team plus ALL the stamps etc you show so we can have MORE craft shows dedicated to everything we long to own : )

Pam, love, so nice to see you today. Take time, as much as you need to try and understand why, no-one expects you to feel upto blogging, but along with our other beautiful Wilsonettes (you too) are pleased that we can be with you during this unbelievable hard time you are experiancing, I cant imagin how hurt you are, and if it helps being here then we will try and support you as much as is possible. Thank you Sue for abling us to care and support.
To those beautiful Wilsonettes finding life hard and wrong at this time, I send caring gentle hugs (you all know who you are) xxx

Enjoy the rest of the day if your able.
    Hugs all round.

Beautiful card, I did spoil myself and buy this stamp, if only to make your beautiful colourful butterfly card, which I made today for my sister-in-laws birthday in July.

So much sad news on your blog today. Except for Jess , Happy Birthday, I hope you had a great day.

June, I can't imagine losing a good friend of so many years. I bet you have some really memorable and funny stories to tell.

FameO1, I really hope your mum makes a speedy recovery,

Pam, It was so nice to read your message today, 6.00am is not the same without you, It's just not right. You have been in my thoughts ever since I read your message about Tim. I think the ladies on Sue's blog are in a minority, we have the most thoughtful and caring people ever. They have helped me ,big time, and we all stand as one big shoulder for you. Sorry to say that I was at the SECC for one visit only at the weekend, usually go three times but it was so different, quieter, different stalls, no big names and somehow to my way of thinking very sad. I think if it continues this way then Scotland will lose it's show. Wonder what all the other ladies who attended thought.

Sue once again loved the life lessons given to you by your Dad, and hope you got your flowers to the Memorial
