Thanks So Much

Hi there crafters!  I' ve got a new sample to share showing the Cordoba die set from my Spanish Collection for today's post.  I am quite taken with this one myself.  I have done a variation on my high-low technique but using the die instead of a mask.  I covered a piece of black card with a sticky adhesive sheet.  I ran it through one pass only of the machine as the key here is not cut the entire shape.  Now I have noticed recently the difference in machines when doing this technique.  Sometimes it will cut out completely in places and sometimes it won't.  If it does cut all the way through both  the card and sticky sheet first time, just place some tape across the back of it to hold it in place and remove it from the die.  Using a pokey tool, carefully peel back the backing paper from the various parts of the die cut revealing the pattern that you would have seen if it had cut all the way through.  Once they are all removed, cover those areas with gilding flakes.  I used the Mulled Wine gilding flakes here.  Once they have been completely refined to remove any excess (I use a piece of rubit scrubit pad to do this with), dust away any left over bit, then carefully peel up the remaining piece of backing paper.  I used Iced Snow for my "high" parts on this project (you can also use micro beads)  Burnish them in well and remove the excess.  I used the edge of the die cut area and hand cut around it to remove the finished piece.  I mounted it with foam on a piece of white card on which I had already scored vertical lines on the bottom portion. I stamped my sentiment on white card and cut it out with the tag from the Spanish Collection. I highlighted it with a light inking of Black Soot before removing it from the die.  I cut two more, one in black and one in gold and cut them in half to use as shadows behind the sentiment.  I created a ruched border out of some pretty velvet ribbon that I had in my stash.  I finished the border with a black messy bow, some jute twine and a gold satin ribbon rose.  I completed the card with a black swirl and  matted the card with some more black and gold card for balance before adding my double white pierced mat layers.  Finished dimensions are 8" x 8 1/4" in size.  All for now, Sue x

  20. GM Sue - love this - could be a masculine card I am thinking. Not seen the mulled wine gilding flakes before - must keep an eye out for those. Love that die shape - another for that wish list! Fogggy start here today but at least we had a dry sunny day yday - not used to those but more rain forecast again for this week - it just wont stop it seems, not just yet anyway.

Your card actually looks like a piece of Spanish lace it's beautiful. My son has bought me the Valencia die and the set with the tag and I'm waiting for it to arrive. You have such an eye for detail I wish I had a small bit of your talent. The gold rose and velvet ribbon finishes it off perfectly. You know I would more than likely use micro beads if I did this but I love what you've done with the iced snow. I bet you were busy at stitches and had loads of orders, now is the time for you to relax. I'm fine Sam and just waiting for results thank you for asking.

Sam Smithard, SPINNING is an excellent way to burn some calories and relieve stress. The workout employs a stationary bike, which has various tension levels. The bike will also track your progress, so that you are motivated to continue and accomplish your fitness goals. I do it to Burn Calories aty the gym. a typical spinning workout of 45 minutes may burn around 500 calories, which is a huge amount when compared to other types of workouts I have tried and fialed at.

  53. Good morning Sue and fellow Wilsonettes,
Not sure about today's card as on the dark side for me. I love the design of the card and the different aspects of the topper that you have made today, its just the colour, sorry Sue. I think i'm making progress in coming out of my safe zone and then you throw me a wobbly. I will keep practising with the out of comfort zone cards and surely it will grow on me soon.
Sam, Spin classes are on stationery bike frames that only have the one wheel. They are on a frame that has the back wheel free to go and no front wheel. There is different gears we will say built into it to simulate you going up and down hills, so that you get the full experience of riding a bike. They ride them like they have been scalded and go mad trying to get up these fake hills and along the flat. It's knackering on every bit of the old body and it leaves the recipient feeling like me and walking just as bad.
What a lovely son you have Heather getting you a gift that is most appreciated and you will have joy using.
We are having one of those days that nothing is moving outside. The schools are back from last weeks break thank goodness as all i have heard is an xbox 360 up and shaking the rafters, with its player shouting at others, making me think he has flipped by talking to himself. And peace reigns once more.
Have a great day everyone and for those like me that have daily arguments with their body on what they are and aren't going to do, i hope its less painful day.
    Love and crafty hugs

Another lovely card today. Maybe a tad to dark for me, but lovely just the same. Your dies sure are gorgeous. it's the technique that we love rather then the colour. I bet you're rushed off your feet at the NEC with orders for your fabulous dies. Spinning is much to much like hard work Cameeli. Where does your energy come from. I'd have to go back to bed after Spinning and swimming, let alone then go to work. Hope you will both be feeling better soon Steph and Norah, and Heather hope you aren't falling out with your Grand Caliber.

  72. Good morning Sue and everyone
Love today's card. All the different techniques are fab. I keep meaning to try the high low technique but a bit nervous so keep putting it off.
Had a near disaster yesterday whilst trying out my new Sue Wilson bow die. I cut the first ones in white to see how they came out (beautiful but tricky getting out of die) so tried again using wax paper but didn't tape them down! Whilst they were going through my ebosser machine they must have slipped as two of them were on top of the rest. Oh no I could have cried! The dies had cut into each other and were all bent. I thought I'd ruined them on the first day of using. I carefully bent them back into shape as best I could and then very gingerly put them back through the machine expecting them not to cut properly....
Would you believe it they still cut brilliantly! I was so pleased. They are definitely made of good quality and made to last. So I have now got dies with pretty patterns in them. Not a recommended technique. The moral of this story is ALWAYS TAPE YOUR DIES DOWN WHEN USING WAX PAPER. I think I got away lightly this time.
Wishing all my fellow Wilsonettes a great day.
    Hugs Sue xx

  73. Hi Sue,
Sorry but I'm not to sure about today's card - might be because the detail isn't showing up to well on my PC as it's so dark. I'm also struggling to understand the instructions will just have to keep re-reading them. I am a great fan of the snow & ice technique so I'm sure it's just me having a 'senior' moment. Hope the show went well.
    Beverley W

  74. Does have a spanish vibe to it but unfortunately the photo doesn't do it justice. Looks too dark. This one needs to be seen in the flesh to appreciate the detail. xx

    ReplyDelete
  75. Hi sue

Well I must be still having an off day because I can't see the iced snow bit..lol I think I can see micro beads though but perhaps I'm missing the point on how this is done?
Think I'm getting to old for written instructions and need videos to see the way. But that all said I'm going to give the high low technic a go.
I do have a few cards to get out today and I'm feeling a bit better with my chest infection but my eyes have gone all puffy and sticky so today's cards are going to be a challenge for sure.
It's half term break too so 3 days off school and I'm going no where except my craft room.
Keep up the good work, all the best Pauline ( freedom99)

  123. Hi Sue, I must confess I had to read the instructions twice before the penny dropped! I am keen now to try out this technique. I like the card, I use black quite a lot in my cards. Don't have the colour of flakes or ice that you used but will try with micro beads.
Have fun at the trade show, I'm hoping my local craft shop owner will come back with loads new stock ideas.xx

  140. Hello all. I love this card, the black and gold is so dramatic. I received my latest die from your own new creations. The Californian Decoration Frames Set B. I cut on plain copier paper (so I can cut into and see the different ways I can use them) Then I cut using 300gsm double sided pearl card. I just passed the dies through twice and the card was embossed as well as cutting out the dies. It was a perfect dream to cut out. Everything was embossed to perfection and the dies so clean and sharp. Looking forward to slowly buying more of these dies. Many thanks for designing these, looking forward to your next designs. Kind regards Sandra Kent

  141. Hi Sue

Your cards is very beautiful,I love this technique, and the die. My friend was at the NEC yesterday, she said she could'nt get anywhere near your stall you had so much attention. That's was good news. I have asked if she would get your dies for her shop and she has agreed to stock them. (even better news, not so so far to go and get them. )

Hi steph, Berkeley 4 paws not too good at present, she now has tremors. The vet rang me yesterday with another urine test result and we having to up the dose of medicine. She did say that the tremors could be to do with the same hormone not working in the brain, if in a week they have'nt subsided, she will start on another set of tests. Poor Berkeley dog, she looks so sad she just breaks my heart when she looks at me,( never been through so many tissues )

    Kind regards :-)

  144. Hi Sue could not be more different from yesterday's card. Looks great, but my brain doesn't seem to have taken instructions in yet. But I will persevere. I love the tag used for sentiment, I bought that set and think this is the prettiest small sentiment die I have ever seen and certainly the best one I have in my collection

This lovely card has the touch of the exotic about it. It also reminds me of the ruffles in a flamenco skirt. The colour palette adds loads of drama and it showcases the dies wonderfully. Love it!
