Double Christmas Day

Hi bloggers! It's Friday and that means another double day for you!  Today we have Father Christmas for the first card and a 3D tree for the second one.  My Santa card is fairly straight forward.  I used a piece of decorative paper from my stash with a tartan feel to it for a wide border strip on the left side.  I attached it to a larger piece of white card that I stamped one of my sentiments on to in the upper corner.  Next I stamped Santa in a Black Archival ink pad and coloured him with pencils.  To give his beard, moustache and hat a 3D look, I used some white liquid applique and heated it.  I fussy cur him and mounted him on a large label shape then matted it with the next size up in red.  I drew some faux stitching lines with a thin lined black pen.  I stamped the other sentiment (both are from the JustRite set called  Holiday Magic)and cut it into a forked tag and attached it below my label shape.  I used a white gel pen to add dots all the way around both of them to give them a whimsical look.  I cut some of the holly die from Heartfelt Creations and added some iced snow to the leaves.  I added flatback pearls that I had coloured red with a marker for berries.  I tucked it under a white messy bow tied from seam binding.  A small pearl embellishment finished off the centre of the bow.  I matted the entire piece with a thin red mat before finishing with a double white pierced mat.  Isn't he handsome? LOL  Finished dimensions are 7" x 81/2" in size.  Scroll down to see the second card.

On the other side of the spectrum, we have an elegant 3D Christmas tree card.  I started with a piece of milk coloured card and stamped my sentiment with a clear perfect medium pad in the bottom centre of it.  I embossed just the upper part with the Wild Poinsettia folder by Couture Creations.  I did this twice as I needed a wider background piece for my card.  I tied a bit of seam binding around the card at the bottom of the embossed area.  I tied a messy bow and added one of the antique gold buttons as an embellishment and attached it to the side.  Next I created a background for my focal element by stamping the pine branch from Heartfelt Creations using a clear perfect medium on soft gold card.  I heat embossed it with gold powder for a tone on tone look and cut it out with the large label die shape. I did a slightly larger mat out of milk card with the larger label die.   Out of milk card, I cut out four of the Tree banner die from HFC.  I carefully scored them all down the middle and folded them.  I glued them back to back to create my 3D Christmas tree and glued the two outside halves to my gold background piece.  I finished the card with a double mat out of milk card and used the Cosmic Shimmer pearl PVA glue to create dots all the way around the edge.  Finished dimensions are 7" x 8 1/2" in size.  I hope that will keep you going with Christmas ideas for awhile!  All for now, Sue x

What a beautiful way to finish the week - today's gifts are both gorgeous but for me Santa wins today. He is such a jolly fellow and such wonderful colouring he just makes me smile. For a contemporary feel the Christmas Tree would fit anyone's wish list.

  14. Good morning Sue,
Two very different cards, but both equally gorgeous. Wouldn't know which one to pick - if I have time, I shall make them (or similar) both.
The Xmas tree will have to be done with the SB die, I did a couple last year and was most pleased with them.

  31. Morning Mrs W and Wsonettes. Thanks for 2 really lovely cards today. Ive had a lie in ! This continuing card making and gift bag making is exhausting me, from daybreak to sundown and beyond Im non stop, hope its worth it or I'll be lumbered with goodness knows how many cards (still not finished gift bags) ! Im shattered.
Anyway, I can see in my minds eye the huge smile in any child's face when they receive the Santa card, I imagin members of your family Sue must have boxes and boxes of saved cards you have made them over the years, wow Wilsonettes, can you imagin all those Wilson cards, heaven : ) I love the 2nd card too, I just wonder how it would survive in the post, I know you'd pad out a good sturdy made box, but Id be on tenderhooks. I have a 3D bauble die - (not a SB die unfortunatly) I inherited it Tuesday and Im just thinking maybe when the craft market is over, and life becomes less stressful, then I can start MY Christmas cards and improvise with what I have.

Oh well ladies, hope you all have a lovely day whatever your plans are. Sending love and hugs to all of you.

  108. Hi Sue. WOW !!! How fabulous are both these cards !!! I really could not pick my favorite because i just love them both. They are so very different. I really love the Santa card. Santa's face is so sweet and I love the liquid appliqué on his beard and hat. I love the traditional tartan and the christmas colours. That holly die from hc looks fab. Thinking back to my childhood this card, for me, represents a real Traditional Christmas and everything that is exciting, wonderful, and magical about the season. I just love it all !!
I also love that beautiful 3d christmas tree to. It looks elegant and "grown up" !!! The colours you have used on this card are not so traditional but I still think it is equally beautiful to the Santa card. I love the sentiment and background. It looks to me as if the Santa card took a lot more hard work to make.

  114. Hello Sue, Two fantastic cards, Santa is sooo handsome and traditional, your colouring is amazing and love his 3D beard, the berries are so effective. The second card is so elegant, have the tree die, might have a play later. You are so clever and talented, your inspiration is much appreciated.
    Have a great day everyone.

I haven't got this die myself but it's lovely that you have this card to show other blog family members of how it can look, which is gorgeous! Hope you are okay Sue and having a wonderful time with the family! take care xx Love Karen xx

  124. Georgous card, i was looking for the samples you did for the Create and Craft show on the weekend, stamp, cut and emboss one. They were recognisably your style of cards, and were gorgeous.

  130. Good afternoon Sue,
Today would be a hard choice as i like the first because of the traditional looking Santa, but i love the 2nd because of the simplicity of it. Both have their high points so today i think i will call a draw.
    Love and crafty hugs

  134. I don't know how you can keep making such beautiful but totally different cards. The tartan was a fab idea for Santa and your PVA glue dots are so uniform and evenly spaced on your lovely tree card. ...sigh...

  150. Both cards are to my taste, I love the first one, as it has lots of lovely little xmas elements to combine and make a magical card, love the accented holly leaves with the sparkle!
The second card is similar to one I have done myself, using the 2012 holiday tree to create a 3D tree focal point.
