If Nothing Ever Changed

Hi bloggers!  When I was five years old, we moved from the east coast of the States (Virginia) to California on the west coast.  My parents had bought a brand new house and we had to pick out fabric for all the curtains.   My Mom let me pick out the material for the curtains in my room from a big book of fabrics.  The paper on the bottom of this card is almost the exact same pattern as the fabric I picked for my curtains! (You were wondering where I was going with that story, weren't you? LOL)  Anyways, when I saw this paper in the store, I just had to buy it as it just brought back such childhood memories!  Now, I just think how brave my Mom was to let me pick my own curtains at age 5! LOL  When I started this card, I was thinking it should have a shabby chic look to it, but it ended up being a bit more styled than shabby.  I had planned on distressing the edges and doing a bit of sewing on it but the sewing machine had other ideas that day, but I liked the way it came out anyways!  I cut my focal element out of the Radiant Rectangles, using the outer two dies for cutting, then I added in the smaller dies to merely emboss the design on the inside of the die cut.  I stamped my sentiment on white card and cut it out with the Opulent Ovals.  I inked it lightly with Spun Sugar and then cut the larger die in the set to seat it upon.  I layered it on my back rectangle to complete my focal piece.  I used white seam binding to create a ribbon flower using the technique in my tutorial at the top of the blog.  I cut two smaller flowers from felt using the Bitty Blossom die set.  I mounted them with some white tulle and a couple of faux suede leaves.  I cut my butterfly from vellum using the Les Papillons set.  I layered up several of them and added flatback white pearls to the body.  I finished the card with three flatback pearls and a double white pierced mat.  Ah the memories! LOL  Finished dimensions are 6" x 8" in size.  All for now, Sue x

  30. Sue, I hope you have scrapbooks full of all those memories, if not see if you can find the time while your Mom is still as well as possible. My parents are both in their 80's & Dad is 86 in August & has had several mini strokes so when I speak to him I remember things that happened when I was small & I get him to talk about it to make sure I have the right memory & it helps him too, his face lights up when we talk together, I hope his Father's Day card will make him chuckle as it should remind him of happy days at the seaside when I was quite small. 60. Good morning Sue,
I love this pretty card as the papers make me think of my Nanas wallpaper. In her bedroom she had the large one and the small petite pattern was in my aunts bedroom. You have awakened memories of my childhood as well with this card. Even today, i still think they are pretty papers/ wallpapers as you can still get them in boutique wallpaper shops.
I'm so glad you didn't distress the card as i really like clean lines to a card. Somehow, i can't get into the distressed look, but each to their own. It wouldn't do if we all liked the same and the sentiment you have chosen echos that.

  135. Hi Sue,
You certainly stirred my memories, too, with this utterly gorgeous card today!
...when I was 15, my Mum was expecting her 5th baby and was rushed to hospital somewhat early.
We children were excitedly waiting for news, would it be a boy or a girl, when I decided to sew a duvet and sheet set for the cradle in anticipation of their home-coming; the brushed cotton material was the exact pattern of this lovely rosebud paper; it was a boy, and he did not become 'pink'
    at all!
Any chance that we might see these
lovely petite patterned, pastel papers soon over here? Please.
    Thanks for your memories today.

You've brought memories back to me of when I used to go to ballet class at the age of 5 upwards to 8yrs. I had a storybook about a ballerina and her dress was a beautiful pale pink which had a white overlay. both the pink and white material was gathered together scallop like and pink rosebuds put in between the scalloped layers from the waist to just below the knee. It was my dream dress and I always wanted one. Thank you for bringing that wonderful memory back. Gorgeous card, love the dies, the vellum butterfly and the paper is just stunning! Gosh, love it! xx Love Karen xx

  144. Beautiful card Sue as usual. I,m afraid at the age of 5 I would most probably have chosen something boyish (very much a tomboy at that age)not very femine at all. Anyway great card.
    God bless

  149. Hello Sue,
What beautiful papers and they work so nicely with todays dies. As you are aware I also love quilting and patchwork and I always pick out fabrics like this, very similar to a famous female designer that has her own range of everything gorgeous in her shops. As you are American have you ever been interested in quilting? love Danella xxx

    Dear Sue
This is such a gorgeously beautiful this card is, these are such pretty papers you have used and the opulent oval and the radiant rectangles embossed and die cut is just so ornate as a centrepiece to the card. The flowers are beautiful and I love the butterfly ( i love butterflies they are a favourite of mine!) and also the border piece is so pretty. The sentiment is lovely too I wouldn't be without butterfly's.
Even as a young child you showed you had good taste as that background paper is really pretty. I think your mom must have trusted you to chose something pretty and in good taste!
This is definitely a favourite card for me.

Sorry I didn't post on this day.

    Best wishes from Katie-Louise sweetlove
