Happy Mother's Day all! I feel like this is the best week we have had for giveaways and prizes to date! Yesterday's blog candy, today's comment game winners (and there are loads of them) and I need to do another blog candy tomorrow. I hadn't realised that we zoomed up another 100 followers so quickly, but we did (I think it was a record timewise!) Just to keep it a bit less complicated, I will do that drawing and post it tomorrow. For the card today, I picked some rather sultry colours and I know many of you will say it is too dark, but for those of you that share my taste in colours, this one is for you! Black, rose, grey and blush were teemed together in this one. I picked a grey decorative paper for the background. I added a wide strip of rose coloured card that I embossed with an embossibility folder. I added a piece of black duchess lace to the side and taped the ends around the back. I found a piece of coordinating paper with a smaller print to it and cut a piece for my focal element to sit on. I cut two of the Timeless Amour dies (I don''t know what to call this particular die but it is a rather abstract looking heart) out of blush coloured card. I stamped my sentiment on blush card and cut it out with one of the dies from the Fancy Tags two set. I very lightly inked it with Victorian Velvet distress ink. I used the small curly bits from my heart to hold the sentiment tag on the top and bottom. I cut a Labels 18 in rose and another one in black, that I cut in half to use as a shadow. I mounted my hearts atop the labels 18 for my focal element. I tied a bow out of black tulle and added it to the corner of the card. I used a black Dazzler and stick pins to embellish my bow. Finally I added the finishing touches b piercing the edges and adding some black flatback pearls to the corners. Finished dimensions are 7" x 8" in size.

ReplyDeleteI love the card but you are right a bit too dark for me so I would balance the card a little more in favour of the lighter colours but as you know that is just me and it is after all a beautifully designed and laid out card as usual Sue.

GM Sue - love it - yes its dark but I think the white fancy hearts just gives it that lift. Didn't buy the hearts but think I should. Are tulle bows more difficult than ribbon to tie? never tried this.

ReplyDeleteI love the format of today'a card and I also love the colour scheme - the only bit I cannot make my mind up about is the black lace - in itself the lace is glorious but for me it just makes the card a little too dark.
Have seen the dates for forthcoming shows and aren't we going to be spoilt!! Am waiting impatiently for my goodies to arrive from your last Monday's and Tuesday's shows so I can get to play for the first time with stamps and matching dies.

ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful and very elegant card. You really have an eye for what works together and I love all the new ways you think off to use the dies. I've had this labels set for ages but have rarely used the one. I found it goes great with ribbon running through the wee holes at each side.

Hi Sue, I love today's card. The color choices are fabulous. I would not have chosen them, until I saw this card. That Timeless Amour die is gorgeous! Is it a Spellbinders die? I don't remember seeing that one.

ReplyDeleteMy wonderful aunt, who was 100 last birthday and is my late Mum's elder sister (and indeed the last of her generation), and who has lost both of her daughters, gets cards and flowers from her various nieces and grandchildren on this day.
Spoke to her this morning and said I looked to her as my surrogate Mum as I no longer have one - and guess what she said?? "I don't have a Mum either".
So no matter how old you are, you still miss your Mum especially on this day.
I laughed and I cried too.
Hi sue I like the layout of this card and I really like the colour combination but I'm really not too sure about the heart die cut,I don't know what it is but I don't like it that much. Hope everyone has a great Mother's Day and as another blogger said if this is your first Mother's Day since losing your mum my thoughts are with you as I still feel weird not sending a card and my mum passed away 7 years ago,especially as she would have loved my handmade cards as she used to pay a fortune for them but I only discovered card making 4years ago.
