Floral Sunset

Good morning!  I just love the bright background with the black die cut flowers.  This is a really easy quick card to make if you use the Matting Basics B die set for the frame.  I started with the background and I inked a piece of coconut white card with distress inks.  I used mustard seed, barn door and dusty concord and inked it in rows.  I applied the ink quite liberally, then I decided that I wanted it to be a bit more diffused but still quite bright so I used all three colours and laid a stripe of each on to my craft mat.  I spritzed it with water quite liberally then placed my inked card down into it.  I pulled the card along to sort of mop up the ink.  This allowed my background to blend, but still retain it's brightness.  I dried it with a heat tool and stamped my sentiment in the upper corner.  I cut several of the Asters and Poppies in black card.  I nipped them a bit and added in extra flower heads here and there and tucked the stems under the edge of the frame. For the frame I used two sizes of the Matting Basics B set to cut the frame, then I added in an extra die and just embossed it into the frame edge for a bit more detail.   I added a thin white mat to lift it a bit then did my final pierced mats to complete the card.  This will work for any occasion so you can simply change the text to suit.  Finished dimensions are 7" x 9 1/2" in size.

    Hi Sue,
This card doesn't do it for me - I think it's the pink in the background that doesn't sit right with me.
However, I LOVE the white version of them.
    Looking forward to today' shows...

  8. Lovely card. So looking forward to seeing you on C & C today. Ordered these dies on Friday, so have recorded all the shows for some ideas. I do have one question though, with the gilding flakes you get glue, but all i have seen Julia and youself use is the double sided adhesive sheets, why do you get this glue with them?

  9. GM Sue - love this card - hope you will be demoing how to do this background today - it's fab. Will be watching your shows again today.

Played with the vintage floret dies yday - you are right what a difference the stamps make - I also put smidges of gold embossing powerder rounds the edges like you did on your card on 13th March and wowee!! really effective. Thanks so much for all the tips - they are wonderful

This is a very striking card and the background is stunning. I love the technique you have used here. At first glance it looked to me like a black leather frame around a sunset picture, it's just gorgeous. I'm sitting watching a repeat of one of yesterday's shows, which is nearly over :-(

Congratulations to all of this week's lucky winners, well done ladies.

Have a great day Sue, I'll be tunned in at 4pm, see ya then.

  33. Good Sunday Morning Sue!

I love this card it give me the feeling of the Caribbean for some reason and as that's where I am off to later this year it cheered me on yet another grey wet day. I loved the way you softened the background I would not have thought about doing that. Very clever Sue! I have softened colour in the past by wiping a light film from my anti static bag or baby powder.

I am looking forward to your shows I decided repairing the dishwasher could wait the deal was too good to miss with 30% discount and flexi pay so bought both sets so my credit card has crept into the darkness of my purse again for a well earned rest bless it! :) It's all about priorities isn't it? LOL!

Congratulations to all our worthy winners in the draw - enjoy!!

  152. Hi Sue, love the layout & design but the black is a bit overpowering for me. Tho I'm gonna try it with white & pastel shades of blue lilac & pink - I use my panpastels to get similar hued backgrounds as I find they are so easy to work with - its hard to mess them up lol! Thanks again for all you fantastic inspiration.
