Trying It Again!

Hello guys!  Yes I am trying another laced card to make up for last month's effort.  I am limited to the type of ribbon I am allowed to use, but I have used a wider zigzag this time, showing off more of the background.  I love this one!  I hope it will appeal to more of you this time too.  I started with a flowery background paper in a cream and brown pattern.  I covered it with micro beads for texture, (yes, I am quite addicted to my micro beads and think they make lovely texture for cards!)  Next I cut the top and bottom "lacing" strips using a combination of edgebility dies to achieve this.  I used two inserts together with the scallopy cutting edge.  I added mounting foam to raise these pieces for dimension (and to make the lacing process easier too) and added them to either side of the card.  A quick note here, even though I have used foam pieces for this, because they are seated on to the micro beads, you need to use some Cosmic Shimmer glue for really good adhesion on top of the beads.  Next came the lacing.  I started by attaching the seam binding on the right side to the back of the card and then through my holes, skipping every other one up and down  until I reached the other side.  I tucked the other end behind the card and then added a messy bow and flower on top.  The flower was made using Sam Poole's Button Floral stamp (tutorial for this is on the Creative Expressions website).  Next I stamped my centre focal element using the Justrite Kindness set.  I stamped it using a clear perfect medium pad and clear embossed it over decorative dotty paper.  After I cut it out with the matching Labels 20 die, I added some pearl Nestabling as an accent and cut a dark faux nestie as a mat for it.  I stamped my sentiment and cut it out with a smaller Labels 20 and used a light inking of Antique Linen while in the die.  Pierced the edges to finish it as I usually do.  A quick note, I have started to photograph the new cards that I am making using a ruler in one of the pictures (I won't post the ruler pics) so I will be able to give you card measurements when I start posting those.  There is usually such a lag between when I make the cards, do the shows and post the cards, that I can never recall what size they were and they are rarely still in my possesion by that time to check them!  Today's card was rather large, in the neighborhood of 8" x 8 1/2" in size.  Anyways, I hope that you like this one, as I was kind of fond of it!  All for now, Sue x

    morning Sue
Have to admit that I like this one much more than your previous lacey card. I think it's because it is not so fussy. I like the colour scheme and in particular the edge dies - I seem to fit a few of these together often for the edges of my cards as they do go well together.

Hi Sue Stunning I love the lasing and I did like the last one you did ,the paper is fab and the backing paper is stunning.I think it is a great idea that you are going to do sizes it would be a great help.I know you do not agree with inserts ,bit you do need them at times,it would be helpefull if you did some sampels of a sort of type of inserts?? I am hopeless myself at doing inserts on the computer, what I do is cut some nice paper with one of the dies, then do a verse ,and cut it out with a die to match the ones used to make the card ,it works o.k.

  146. Hi Sue,
Very stylish indeed. I agree with you that the micro beads add fab texture. I love using them (which is just as well as I bought 2 pots to save on postage and when they arrived they were much bigger pots than I'd imagined they would be! I thought I'd never use them all, but now I'm not so sure ......!)

  149. Very nice Sue.

Can I ask - is it normal for the tan mat to stick to the pink or raspberry plate plus the embossing folder you feed through the Grand Calibur????? I find it rather annoying.

I never had this problem with my little Double Do-XL although the rubber mat for that is of a different composition.

  150. Hi Sue

Another lovely card, you can never overdo the micro beads, I love them, and the ribbon bow with the flower is just perfect.

    Happy Crafting

  153. Like this card more than last months. It's not as busy & distracting. This is more subtle. The colours are really nice on this one. The other colours were nice too, but not all at once as was a bit heavy. These colours & papers really do compliment each other. I like the laced ribbon. I know your limited in what ribbon you can use, but surely cutting it down the middle could work also if you wanted to lace it both ways?! Only saying as an option as you cut other ribbons. I like this one as it is though. Was thinking more of the other.
My son really enjoyed making my Mums birthday card with me this morning whilst his sister was at nursery. I cut dies, stuck decoupage, inked hearts with my stamps, embossed. Seemed to love it!!! Claire xxx

  154. Hi Sue, I think this way of weaving lets the background show through to better advantage. If one only had the wide ribbon, I guess you could always fold it lengthways, and press it to make it narrower for weaving. Anne

  159. I love this card Sue - and the lace up effects. The background paper is lovely too.

I think that I am starting to fall in love with the shape of the Labels 20 die - it makes a great focal point on the card.

Your messy bow looks fab as usual.
